Small but wonderful with a nice wee library at its basement
More often than not the main exhibition space is closed. Much preferred it when the Howson and Currie paintings (along with other more permanent works) were displayed. Plenty of room upstairs for installations. I have stopped visiting.
I have been doing art work from magazines books such as Satellite TV and Tivo box set up and now I cant see it as battery died as buried in the morning but I think it's just the battery AAA Kodak cells it's not got power as 1.5 v as I have to put it on control switch on / so forth
Interesting free access gallery. Its quality depends on the exhibitions you have at all times. It is essential to take the picture with the statue of the Duke of Wellington, a classic in the city of Glasgow.
The Gallery of Modern Art is another amazing part of Glasgow city centre's cultural activity and another amazingly free place to spend some time!
I don't pretend to understand Modern Art but I do like to challenge myself and the gallery has many items to help visitors get to grips with the exhibitions. It also has a great wee gift shop, a well socked library and a cafe to relax in too.
The entry is free which is nice but the galleries are nothing special.
I'm not somebody that does art or didn't think I was and hadn't planned to visit this place but happened to stumble upon it and really enjoyed it.
good library downstairs. Walking past the statue of Wellington with the cone on his head on the way in always raises a smile.
It only had one open floor and the collection is scarce. Of course, like all museums in Scotland it is free!
Lovely place to visit, I spent a very relaxing evening here with my wife.
Very disappointed with exhibits not a lot to see unfortunately.
Zero stars, an embarrassment to Glasgow. No local artists work. Not much work of any description. The individuals responsible for this shambles should resign and never be allowed to work in this field again.
It has very good works of art, I like very much the colonial and old style that the building has, you can take a guided tour in group or tour the site alone, I do not recommend bringing small children as it is a quiet space.
Curious museum There is also the tourist office. They treated us very well in Spanish.
Though this is a free museum, it's not worth a visit if you're pressed for time. Some of the exhibits were interesting but the museum as a whole was a letdown. That being said, visit the outside of the museum at some point during your time in Glasgow. The Duke of Wellington statue and gold-coated pediment make for an interesting sight.
Very empty, could be filled with so much more exciting things. Nothing interesting being shown except an Andy Warhol "Campbell's Tomato Soup" art piece, and video footage of "The Way Things Go" 1987 art film by the Swiss artist duo Peter Fischli and David Weiss. Although it is free entry!
Nice old building with some background story that you can read on site in English. The exhibited "art" was rather boring and uninteresting as I found.
Why this gallery has only mediocre rating, is incomprehensible to me. When we visited the gallery there were many interesting and controversial exhibits and the staff was very polite and friendly. There is even a children's corner! My guess why the gallery is rated only mediocre is that this is probably due to the nature of modern art. Unfortunately, this is often misunderstood or misjudged (its not about taste). Just because one is too uncultivated or too conservative to understand modern art does not justify a negative rating! People, if the exhibition confuses, disgusts, shocks or provokes you, then that is precisely the goal of the artist! Some people appreciate something, the rest can look at old pictures on a wall. and: If you think that art is there to hang in the living room, you should avoid such great galleries and perhaps read a book or two about art before you wrote an comment. Thank you!

The building is really nice, but unfortunately the exhibition was so pure.
Exquisite and beautiful...!!
Located at the city centre... A must visit in Glasgow
Amazing looking building. So many talented artists in Glasgow. And yes there is nothing in the art gallery few boring pictures which never changes been there so many times and it's always same, nothing new. "Gallery of modern Art" 0%
Personally i am not a fan of modern art, altough overall experience of this gallery is nice. Plus the building itself has an interesting history, displayed on whiteboards across the corridors. Builiding has a lift, admission is free.
Wasn't hugely impressed with the second floor, but the Niki de Saint Phalle and War exhibitions were tremendously gripping. Hard to walk past any of the pieces without becoming completely engrossed.
Went in mid August: I was very disappointed by this museum. The outside of the museum is amazing and even though the exhibit room 1 was empty, it was very cool to see the columns. Otherwise there wasn't anything to really see in the museum. I went through it in about 20 minutes
Great venue. Very accomodating and great with kids. Staff are really really nice here
Impressive building housing at times not very much in the way of modern art. There's a good library downstairs to have a sit and read on a rainy day
Lovely old building. Inside is the Art - which will be very subjective - luckily "You don't have to like it all". In the basement is a full-function public library and coffee bar. Well recommended for a 5-50 minutes, depending on your interest. Like all other Glasgow Museums, this is FREE.
Three of the four galleries were closed when we visited today. The one that was open had about 10 items in and sadly none of them were I inspiring to me. Certainly wouldn't recommend this place.
I think its one of the best places to go to in Glasgow, try it out its free.
Very few restaurants, the only highlight is the sculpture in front of the door

On the outside it is much better than inside. The day that I visited, there was nothing interesting inside apart from the internal architecture of the building. No interesting exhibition. But maybe it was an unlucky day.
It's a bit rough on the inside and kind of small but sometimes the first floor exhibits are really exceptional
Nice museum with changing departments and changing exhibits in a nice old building. Entrance is free.
Very friendly staff and beautiful exhibitions that change every couple of months. The only exhibition that never changes is the one about the history of the museum.
Not really my thing and relatively small. But it's free, the building is nice and you will certainly pass it when visiting Glasgow, so why not go in.
Weird. I just do not get modern art.
Just cannot help thinking Emperors new clothes
nice pieces of art, however the staff seem very hostile towards everyone who walks in, wasn't really a pleasant atmosphere but the work was good.
The building and architecture are very beautiful but the collections are not very interesting in general unless a good exhibition coincides. As positive points, say it's free and the staff super friendly
Not very interesting. Lack of description for each item
I love you Glasgow, you have the best art gallery in the world! Small but so smart and creative. 10/10
The museum looks beautiful. The most important thing is *free visit*
Free, small but it is nice and cozy. Great place to visit on a rainy day. Please visit downstairs. They also have public toilets downstairs.
There's better museums in this city. This place has a nice library downstairs though.
I enjoyed visiting here. Discovered information on Scottish filmmaker John Samson who never heard of before. Also has very nice library downstairs as well.
Definitely something for people that are really into art. The exhibit I saw wasnt really for a casual visit but more for a very engaged viewer. The exhibits are very small but there is also a library and a cafe downstairs. The exhibit, to my knowing, was contemporary art not modern (in the technical sense). So if you are looking for modern artworks (1880s-1970s -ish) this is not the place.
Admission is free of charge so if you are nearby you might as well pop in.
The gift store is very nice and the entrance hall has a cool mirrored wall!
Sorry but it's not my thing. It's was difficult to understand what it's all about! Art is good. Modern art is OK. But this requires a slightly weird point of view. Sorry... Good film about things rolling into other things and making things happen... I think!
Excellent free exhibits. Wifi didn't work. Good art.
Beautiful building displaying modern art well worth a visit just to see the building alone
The cone statue is a symbol of the city. It is at the gates of the gallery that by the way is very disappointed.
Gallery of modern art, very modern if you like that thing x
Are they taking the piss, or at least trying to see what they can get away with? Somebody please take over this place and start displaying interesting art work and installations, apparently we are quite good at it despite the evidence on exhibit in this place.
Impressive entrance, plenty of photo opportunities, kindest most helpful library staff and free public toilets
Great place to visit. Although the quality of the art work can vary depending on which exhibits are on. This makes it worth revisiting every so often.
Well after great anticipation it was an awful let down,. Three of us went three of us left disappointed and embarrassed that this shabby uninspiring place is on show to the world. Close it and start again
Glasgow Glasgow Glasgow...what can I say. Came a long way from being a colonial slave city to the utopian cultural hub of the northern hemisphere. Lovely sensual art
Small but very well designed and managed. An innovative proposal in this nice city.
Very nice building, but not very well used. Not much to see.
Great place love the exhibitions definitely worth a visit
Nothing really interesting here. Nothing comparable to a good xOMA (MOMA, Tate, ...).
I love that the library there has tons of anime-Manga books!!! (^o^)
Very disappointing, poor lighting, can't see the exhibits clearly.decidely lacking in both quality and quantity.
Great place to visit. A shining example of how something with a dark history can be used to improve the future even though it looks nothing like what it did.
