Girls on the Run of Northwest Arkansas: Empowering Girls to be Joyful, Healthy and Confident
Girls on the Run of Northwest Arkansas is a non-profit organization that aims to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident through a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The organization was founded in 2012 by a group of passionate individuals who wanted to make a difference in the lives of young girls in their community.
The program is designed for girls aged 8-13 years old and consists of 20 lessons that are delivered over the course of ten weeks. Each lesson focuses on developing important life skills such as self-esteem, teamwork, communication, goal-setting and decision-making. The lessons are taught through interactive activities such as games, discussions and running exercises.
One unique aspect of Girls on the Run is that it culminates in a celebratory 5K run where all participants come together to complete their journey. This event not only serves as an opportunity for girls to showcase their newfound confidence but also helps them develop a sense of accomplishment and pride.
The program has been incredibly successful since its inception with over 1 million girls participating across North America. In Northwest Arkansas alone, Girls on the Run has served over 3,000 girls since its founding.
What sets Girls on the Run apart from other programs is its focus on empowering young girls through physical activity. Research shows that regular exercise can have significant positive effects on mental health by reducing stress levels and improving mood. Additionally, physical activity can help improve self-esteem by providing opportunities for achievement and mastery.
Girls who participate in this program not only develop important life skills but also learn how to lead healthy lifestyles which will benefit them throughout their lives.
Another unique aspect of Girls on the Run is its commitment to inclusivity. The program welcomes all girls regardless of race or socioeconomic status with scholarships available for those who need financial assistance.
In addition to serving young girls, Girls on the Run of Northwest Arkansas also provides opportunities for adult volunteers to get involved. Volunteers can serve as coaches, running buddies or event volunteers and play a crucial role in helping to deliver the program.
Overall, Girls on the Run of Northwest Arkansas is an incredible organization that is making a real difference in the lives of young girls. By empowering them with important life skills and promoting healthy lifestyles, this program is helping to create a generation of confident and resilient young women who are ready to take on the world.
