Giapo Gelato Review

Geez... If ice cream shops were like hotels, this one would be 5 star.

For once I didn't mind paying $8.50 for a scoop of ice cream! So decadent, fancy, delicious, and A+ service to boot. All scoops come with decorations which makes it that much more exciting. Plenty of vegan options!

If you're a sweet tooth, this is the place to be. It's dessert heaven.

Really cool experience and service. I believe everyone should try at least once. But ice-cream by itself isn't so great as described everywhere (but it's a personal taste). So, probably one time experience. Great for tourists, probably.

Interesting ice cream experience. There was approximately a 20 minute wait when visiting on a Saturday evening. The crew were fantastic and were offering chocolate and ice cream samples while we waited in the line.

The reason for the wait in the line is that they have a tasting option where you can trial each of the flavours that are on offer. If you know what you want or you only want to try one or two flavours you may be able to jump the queue which is what we did. Lots of different options when it comes to how the ice cream is served. There are some interesting ones that make eating a little more of a challenge.

The flavours are different. I had an NZ standard hokey pokey however also had taro which was very interesting and unexpected.

Fun place but not a go in and out quickly experience. Take your time. Enjoy. We did.

The special cones/cups look really fancy and taste quite good. Nevertheless it is clearly overpriced. The only reason to go here are the fancy looking cups/cones. If you want to go here bring some time. The ordering process is not well adapted to the crowd waiting on the crosswalk.

If I knew I was going for an experience and not quality ice cream I would have given it a big miss. ice cream isn t worth the calories and why was I charged twenty five dollars for a cone with two scoops. My advice. The experience isn t worth the wait outside behind the chain.

The ice cream is huge and has a story behind it. Another way to buy and enjoy ice cream.

Had an amazing experience at Giapo, not only are the ice creams delicious and instagrammable, the owners are really energetic and passionate. Such an awesome place, great little date spot

From out-of-this-world amazing gelato and ice cream, to chocolate chips and cones, to delightful toppings (including a 3D printed chocolate squid!), Giapo did not disappoint. The service was fabulous and the vegan gelato and ice creams we had were so perfect! About 1/3 of the flavors are vegan; all were truly delicious! Don't miss it if you've a chance to go!

Ice cream was good, but nothing too special to pay $10+ for s scoop. At least not for our taste, but obviously people have different tastes. As many people said, it's worth going through the main entrance to get the full experience rather than going to the fast lane if you don't know the taste.

One is enough for two people.
Since the toy is strong, I did not have enough taste to eat.
It can be tasted, so it is safe.
There is also a Japanese menu on the menu, so we carefully hospitate, so it is okay not to decide impatiently.
As I hear the name at the time of treasurers, I call my name and bring it when I can.

You can taste a variety of favorite flavors.
The clerk is bright and welcomes guests.
Alongside, it sometimes gives us taste of sweets.

The service is exceptional, who knows they give yoy a 20 mints presentstion for an ice cream.very creative products overall,however i find they are all too sweet for my personal taste buds. If you like real sweets,this is the place to go.

An excellent experience but over the top sickly sweet. I think a must try but certainly not a repeat visit from me.

You pick the flavor (there is about half a dozen, changing daily) and they decorate it for you. Looks pretty, tastes good -- good experience.

What an amazing experience! I had found this place online as an experience to try, so I knew to expect a bit of a wait and to pay a little extra for ice cream than I usually would but it was whole heartedly worth it! The staff were amazing, friendly and helpful. We were offered free samples of ice cream and chocolate while we waited. I cannot wait to come back to Auckland and visit Giapo again!

They're not kidding when they claim to be New Zealand's best gelato -- the flavours at Giapo are absolutely amazing, and the presentation is incredible. I was completely blown away by the experience.

If you're in Auckland, do not even hesitate to stop by -- they even offer a selection of vegan flavours, so you've got absolutely no excuse to try them!

Giapo makes getting ice cream a true "experience", with its fantastic customer service and delicious, one of a kind flavours. Their ice creams are more like pieces of art, and somehow they make even the most seemingly bizzare ice cream flavours taste delicious! My only critique would be their custom creations priced at $15+, a bit too over the top for my liking. Also, be prepared for long lines and slow service - it is well worth it!

Great range of vegan options! Wish I had some photos to add, as everything is so visually appealing at Giapo. But the ice-creams are usually half gone before I've got my camera open.

Giapo "The Colossal Squid!!!" This masterpiece was an inspiration from the colossal squid at Te Papa Museum .The whole body was created using 3D printing technology and the tentacles and fins are hollow rather than solid to avoid death by chocolate!
It took an astounding 18 months to create this masterpiece wammy which sits on top of the cone.A must try one a kind creation which tastes even better than it looks.

The icecream could be chosen from a variety of artisan hand crafted flavours.

I woudl say that it's not a only ice cream. It's a kond of expierience. Guys are really passionate to what they're doing. They can speak hours about thier ice creams. We tried all flavours and i need to say that it was hard to chose 4 to order. All them were really great and special.

It s the most pricey ice cream I ve ever tried but it s pretty good ice cream and the portion is big. We tried to share 2 cones between 4 people and we still couldn t finish. What s interesting is that they had all sorts of types and designs of cones that I ve never seen before. The service was good and we got to try the flavors before making our decision. Please note that the place is cashless.

When you're new there, they start you off with ice cream tasting which is great. Then they go through all the crazy options, such as edible cups and selfie frame cones. Real neat and good tasting ice cream.

If you want an ice cream experience then this is the place to be. Beware though as it all comes at a cost. Great ice-cream though if you are willing to part with your cash.

Excellent service, interesting icecream combinations, but once was enough. It is definitely worth of try, but it can hardly become my regular icecream place.

The experience is good, the vendors doing a great job. Good ice creams but compared to home made one in France in places such as Lyon (Nardone), it misses a star. Extremely popular, be ready to queue...

If you want a desert in Auckland, make sure to stop by Giapo. Sure the gelato may be more expensive (~$8-9) but in my opinion its worth it. A truly unique experience.

So we went for a walk and reached Giapo. Giapo seves lots of vegan and eggfree icecreams. We tasted ice creams and were ready to place our order. But then the girl at the counter told us that they don't accept cash and only cards work. We didn't carry any card so we asked her if she can swipe her card and we will pay her. She asked us to wait and got our ice cream and said it is on the house. We insisted her to take cash but she refused and said enjoy. We were pleasantly surprised. The ice cream was yummy. And best it was free for us. What a wonderful memory Giapo gave us. Thank you. This is real customer service. They didn't let the customer go back empty handed. Highly recommend.

They had a tasting experience for you to try out all their flavors, which is a great way to allow customers to try them out before deciding.

Sadly, there wasnt any fruity flavors at the time, so none of them were really to my liking. However I can tell the ice creams were all really well done.

The line was quite long when we got there, but moved pretty quickly. Flavors change, but you can sample all the flavors if you want to.

Long queue but worth the wait, the ice cream is heavenly.

Really wonderful experience but the icecream texture and flavor is not great as it used to be. Possibly more thought and effort put on to the toppings and cones instead of the actual icecream itself.

Not sure why anyone would want an ice cream that looks like a squid, but this place fills their specific requirements.

Had a lovely time at Giapo they definitely focus on the dessert experience. We'll be visiting again.

Giapo gelato is outstanding quality, service and vibe. Perfect place, absolutely perfect. Waiting outside for 20 minutes cause of the queue didn't feel like but 5 minutes, their staff constantly walking around offering you hot chocolate, biscuits, little chocolates and what so ever. I almost felt full when it got to our turn to order! So many interesting ideas like donuts on the ice cream! So many cool genius ideas and they all look great! Absolutely you've gotta try it if you're around Auckland! Gave it 4 stars cause the prices are sky-high, also I grew up in the land of Gelato and I couldn't find much similarity to the real gelato I know. That's what makes it original though no? Try it!

This place is an institution, it's busy as buggery but it doesn't take that long together served.

The service is impeccable, you know you're in a different type of place and this is no corner street icecream bar.

As for the creations, they are very very cool (if rich and as sweet as you'd expect). Go for the best, yes they are expensive but you're not likely to come back and so treat yourself.

Good as gold place. My fav go to place for ice cream. Their in-house ice cream Giapo flav is the best.. chur
