Giapo Gelato Review

Oh my, I first we weren't sure if we should give them a visit because of the price (Around 20 dollars for their amazing cone depends on what you choose) but hey it was one of the most fun ice cream experience seeing all different types of cones and unconventional ice cream flavors! (Don't worry, they still have chocolate) we ordered the selfie cone and took two of us to finish it. Super yummy!

Really popular place. Ice cream was next level, not your average ice cream shop. Highly recommend if your visiting Auckland

Wow! Great experience and amazing ice cream.

This is a premium location for ice cream but it was well worth it. A server will go through a thorough tasting with you to help build your dessert and then you are served it to eat in the patio or take away.

I would recommend an item off the standard menu with one flavor in a cup or basic waffle cone for anyone's first visit. Thats the best way to experience the gourmet ice cream as it was made to be eaten and the portion is just right.

Delicious ice creams. But I liked the old location better when you could watch them make the ice cream creations behind a screen. There was a lot more fun and wonder to it. The new spot feels a bit more cold and aloof, like a trendy clothing store. That said, still tasty!

Friendly and patient staff (especially when trying out ALLLLL the flavours), great service, and never disappointed when I leave!

I do love Giapo & have had good experiences in the past. I took my partner here for his first time last week & the service & ice cream were great. However, when we were testing the flavours of each ice cream, we were grouped with two other groups (one couple & two female friends). A shot glass size of each ice cream flavour was passed around one by one & each customer used a wooden ice block stick to scoop & sample the ice cream. This stick was reused for each ice scream flavour which meant that everyone s saliva was going back into the shot glass & my partner & I being the last to try meant that we had everyone s saliva residue in the shot glasses (8 or 9 times). This is extremely unheigenic & the sticks should have been replaced each time for each flavour. Very disappointed.

Possibly the best ice cream experience I had in my life. The girls are just so incredible in their service standards! Not to mention, AMAZING gelato. Expensive but totally worthwhile.

It used to be good. Now the quality is bit inconsistent and you can't really see the ice cream before getting it.

Giapo is not a simple ice cream shop - it is a full ice cream and chocolate experience. This is a no-rush atmosphere even with a line stretching out the door. The accommodating staff will explain their entire crafting process to you, they will treat you to a taste of every single ice cream flavor, and they will demonstrate how your frozen treat will be presented within an each-more-elaborate-than-the-last cone creation.

Never in my life have I seen ice cream glorified like this, and the extravagance is not to be missed. Yes, it is expensive. Go for date night or a special occasion and let yourself be impressed.

3 vegan options for ice cream. All 3 very good. Very unique experience. Very popular so very busy. They need a bigger space!

I'm a skeptic for trends but I was a fool! It's been a long time coming for me to finally try out Giapo. The experience itself was worth the wait and money. I grew up in the streets of Manila eating ice cream in a sandwich and to my surprise they had an option for my ice cream to be inside Maori bread! There could be no other way. I'm getting that! And it was glorious

If you are the first time customer, they will introduce you their ice cream and let you taste every flavor. If you know what you are going to order already, you can skip the introduction and go to the direct order line around the corner. Very good service and very fancy ice cream.

They have an awesome selection of flavours and decorations for their ice creams. It is relatively expensive and you'll always wait a long time for your ice cream but the end product is well worth it.
The staff are always super helpful too

They offered a sampling that was so helpful, and then our ice cream creation was like nothing I've ever had before. If you want something whacky, fun, and tasty you found the perfect place. I really appreciated staff kindness and sampling for free. I felt like I got more than I paid for, but they seemed thrilled I was there. Please go here!

My missus bought overpriced ice creams for us from this place. I cant believe I spent $37 for 2 ice creams and the taste wasn't special. Smh

good to try all the tastes for free before purchasing a cone. We bought Honey combo cone but we concluded that the taste is not worth to its expensive price.

Loved it here! There was quite a queue when I got here but the staff are very accomodating and ensures that everyone gets treated well. It's great that you can get a free taste of all their flavors before you choose what to order. Definitely going back!

I really love Giapo, its my favourite place to get icecream & in the past I have been absolutely addicted. But I have to say, since they changed the menu & took away the paper cup option, I'm not feeling it as much. I get that they're wanting to make gelato a big magical experience, but taking away the cups means taking away a fairly cheap & accessible option. They've also made it that only specific flavours can be eaten with specific cone choices. So if I want a cheap option, I can only choose between 3 flavours, none of which are the flavours I want to choose! I always go for the afghan flavour, but now the cheapest option I have for the afhgan flavour is $21! Don't think that's very fair. If you're going to take away the paper cups, then I think you should at least not limit all the cone choices to only specific flavours.

Heard good things about this place and was told it was a must-go to! Got here and we were offered to try some flavours - the one I fancied on the menu was not available to try for some reason but you could but it. I went for it and the ice cream was not nice at all, didn't taste anything like the description and had lots of bits in it, overall very unpleasant and expensive!

Amazing staff and great flavours. I ordered my ice cream with a roti wrap, totally not what I was expecting as the roti was really hard and chewy & hard to swallow with the ice cream just falling out in the first bite. I have grown up eating mums rotis and this definitely was not to standard, I understand changes have to be made to accommodate the ice cream but I m sure it can be done better than what was served given they charge so much for it.

The ice cream is delicious and has very different flavors, but the price is steep. It's worth knowing, but you can't go there.

EDIT: I know Giapo is an obsession when I come twice a week - every single thing on the menu is absolutely amazing and perfect and just makes me so happy to be alive omg I can t!!! Side note, their cones are properly addictive but these babies are huge and filling so just be warned children

We had an incredible experience at Giapo! They offer an ice cream sampling degustation which allows you to try all their different flavours before making a decision. Everything on the menu looked like a work of art. I ended up ordering the Hokey Pokey and it was delicious! They also have very generous service sizes and the staff were super friendly. Would highly recommend!

Tasting is lovely but it s overpriced. Mainly a tourist must do now. I miss their queen street days...

As delicious as before! The new Gore Street store is the first time I have tasted the dumpling ice cream with soy sauce, and I am also drunk. It tastes very special and is a good try. The new store is very large, the decoration style is good, suitable for selfies, it is worth trying!

Just stay with the chocolate flavors. Napier Kiwifruit and Guacamole are acquired taste

Spectacular, above all expectations. FYI they will give you a personal sampling of any flavors desired. They sell out of many flavors prior to close so get there early.
