A beautiful castle from outside but inside it smells urine. And you can't climb to the roof of it. So it's not a viewpoint either. I would recommend you not to enter it..But its one of the 3-4 things you can visit in Alexandria.

Magnificent citadel showing how glorious Egypt was in the Mamluks era. The citadel is well preserved only problem is maybe people throwing trash nearby this historic landmark. Has great views of the city and the nearby marina.
The ancient Citadel of Qaitbay is a testament to the greatness of Egypt in the Mamluk era, when it was a major player in global trade. It has many places where you can take beautiful pictures of the city and the same effect

Bey Citadel and the Lighthouse of Alexandria was the construction of the castle on the ruins of the Lighthouse of Alexandria and this is the only link between the two buildings, as the Lighthouse of Alexandria, which was located at the entrance to the port of the island of Pharos in the eastern side was one of the greatest buildings in the past, but suffered numerous disasters and lost a lot of parts until the fifteenth century, where a severe earthquake destroyed the entire castle was built Qaitbai ruins ... this castle was built on an area of approximately 18,000 thousand square meters, since the outer perimeter fence with a large average thickness of approximately two meters and the average height of up Up to 8 meters. This fence that surrounds the castle contains several observation and defense towers distributed on all sides, and there is also a side of the fence contains rooms and windows for ventilation and defense as well. The area between the outer wall and the castle was used to accommodate the soldiers and their equipment. The castle is divided into three main floors, the first of which is a mosque and corridors for soldiers used during the defense of the castle, while the second floor contains rooms and halls used by those in charge of the castle. Finally, the third floor consists of a large hall where the Sultan's Council uses it during his visit to the city. The third floor also contains a grain mill and a bakery to provide soldiers with supplies. Bey Citadel through history since the establishment of the castle is used as a fortress to defend the city of Alexandria coming from the sea armies, have been used by all the kings who passed on the rule of Egypt until the English invasion in the nineteenth century, where the attack on the castle dramatically exposed many of the cracks, in This period was marginalized and was not used until the beginning of the twentieth century when the Egyptian government initiated the restoration and make it an archaeological symbol of the city.
Adjacent to the castle is the Aquarium and Yacht Club

More than a wonderful historical place, with stunning views of boats, ships, port and the shore of the Mediterranean ...
There are many restaurants and cafes near it.
There are nearby Egyptian antiquities and cultural sellers with cheap prices and medium quality ...
I do not recommend visiting during holidays and events, because there are too many crowds and people at the ticket outlet, especially at the beginning of winter
Ticket price is reasonable

A first class historical site

A first class historical site
But this place distorts the boatloads, the popular sessions, poor hygiene, and the Aquarium for which I paid an amount that is not worth ten percent of it. The place is devoid of so-called antiques, in all honesty, a center to seize money
The castle needs two visiting periods, morning and evening

The Citadel is most impressive. It is much bigger than it looks and the construction reflects the engineering expertise of its time. The view from the battlements is worth the 60LE entrance fee alone. Unfortunately though it is not well maintained. There is graffiti on the walls and visitors are allowed to smoke inside the building which in itself is unpleasant for other visitors, but also means that there were many cigarette butts lying around both inside and outside. I was also disappointed that it closed at 16:00. Egyptians really need to step up and take more care of their historical heritage and not just treat it as a source of income.

This 15th century citadel is constructed from the rubble of the famous lighthouse of Alexandria which was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. If you arrive before the peak tourist influx you can enjoy the relatively empty place. The upper level offers stunning views of the Alexandria coastline.

The Fort of Qaitbay, also known as the Citadel of ...

The Fort of Qaitbay, also known as the Citadel of Qaitbay, is a 15th century defensive fort located in Alexandria, Egypt. The Fort is located in the eastern part of the island of Faro in the port of Alexandria. It was erected in 1477 by the Circassian Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa'it Bay, in the same place where the ruined lighthouse of Alexandria was located. He fortified the site as part of his coastal defensive project against the Ottoman Empire, which threatened Egypt during that time. He built the fortress and located a mosque inside it.
