This is a National Park. The visitor's center is a little cramp and the book selection in the book store could benefit from expanding selections a bit beyond the traditional men, guns, and maneuvers genre of history, but I assume that they know their audience well. We took the Sunken Road guided walking tour with a seasonal ranger who also happened to be a grad student in Public History at WVU. She gave a grwat tour that not only explained the ins and outs of the battle but also challenged visitors to think critically about the decisions and strategies of the men who fought there.

The displays depict life in early colonial America. At the time that we went, there were enactments of actual colonial life going on since it was the peak visitor season in June that year.

Fredericksburg National Battlefield is a beautifully preserved piece of history from the civil way. It's a very enjoyable place to visit and learn about what this country went through during outright civil war. This is a must see if you're in the area.
Downtown historic Fredericksburg is a great place to visit and get a cup of coffee or a bite to eat at many of the restaurants in the vicinity.

This is a gem near downtown Fredericksburg. Very nice visitor center, and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Some excellent exhibits, and places to walk around. (Note: Some of the paths are not wheelchair / stroller accessible - unless you have a jogging stroller with big wheels.) Plenty of parking.

Wow!! We didn't spend nearly enough time here. They have done an amazing job keeping a piece of our history here for us to see and reflect on. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend an afternoon not just a couple of hours.

Clean. Litter free. Too bad you can't say that for the rest of Fredericksburg VA. There is litter all over the place. People throw beer cans and bottles out of their cars after they drink and drive. Imagine if the state had deposit on cans and bottles. They would keep the cans and bottles in the cars after they finish driving and drinking.

Went for the 2017 Luminaria on Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers placed two luminaries for every stone, and cemetery was open until 11 p.m. The park rangers gave short narratives for some of the soldiers buried there. The place is well maintained and fairly easy to get to. Definitely worth visiting.

As with most battlefields it is quiet and serine. The history here is evident as you walk down the sunken road and up to the Cemetery. This is a great place to visit for a little history and understanding of what was the cost to both sides in the of taking Fredericksburg

Kids and I got a Junior Ranger Acitivity book from the Rangers and we walked around reading the information. It was very educational. Some things we had to skip to keep moving due to kids getting restless. But overall the kids and I enjoyed it. Kids were wowed about the bullet holes in Innis House. While standing at grave #2864 and reading a story from the activity book, we could have a sense of what the writer was feeling.

Very nicely shaded with many interesting monuments & historical markers to read. Not busy. Plenty of parking & picnic tables. Other visitors were friendly. Nice little escape on the outskirts of the busy downtown area.
