It is a very beautiful and peaceful place with large parks: commercial and recreational, very tidy, cultured society that respect their authorities and their laws, ...
Had a great time here. If you are interested in the civil war, it's a must see.
Great historical park to walk and enjoy the great outdoors
Great place to learn and see history. Sad at the same time.
We had been meaning to cone here for years. A great day trip destination from NOVA.
Nice. Not the biggest or best civil war site. Too much development. But not bad considering circumstances
There is nothing like looking over the stone wall along the Sunken Road and imagining what it must have been like to have been there to make you appreciate that war is hell.
I just love visiting here! There is so much American History and locals willing to share it and tell you all about it. Don't skip going to the visitor's center.
Enjoyed the stroll in the Sunken Road Walking Trail
Sobering and thought provoking, a worthwhile day spent learning about the battles that took place in this area and the impact it had on the civil war.
Well done civil war museum and battlefield. Unfortunately the Park Service has decided to soften its exhibits by removing photos depicting the horror of was. Romanticizing a tragedy is not the way to avoid making the same mistakes.
Great park, tons of history, VERY knowledgeable staff and lots of programs throughout the year. Don't forget about the trails located on all the battlefields, they take you deeper into the history and immerse you in your surroundings.
Once you learn how to read it will set you free! I lead from the front, not the rear. #leadingthepackthroughhistory
Great history walking the battlefield grounds there. With my civil war friends. Co. E 3rd regiment Hart's Engineers C.S.A. from San Diego, California.
Visiting from Scotland. A ranger led tour of the sunken wall on Sunday 20 th October was so engaging. He pitched the tour at all levels. I was not familiar with American Civil war history and was struggling with just the bitty info off the boards. He brought it to life like a great lecturer would and at my vast age I will always remember this well delivered lecture of the battle of Fredricksburg and how it started and who faught where. Go see it locals and tourists alike. Hope you get prof. Justin. Thank You. A visitor from Scotland.
Lots to learn & see. Great place to come to if you love history and it's beauty!
This place was gorgeous. If you're at all interested in American history, Fredericksburg and this place in particular are important to visit! The NPS staff were friendly and informative as always, and the exhibits inside and outside were well-curated. The gift shop was really great too - the gentleman working the day we visited was super kind and helpful!
All in all, this should definitely be a part of your trip. It's worth the walk!
They do a great job preserving and interpreting this battle with only a small amount of land.
Lots of history, beautiful museums, and great relic shops. Beautiful town.
An amazingly beautiful city, with a rich history and a warm local people.
Very well organized alot of History to see, walk and gift shop was a pleasure to visit.
Visited Jackson's arm and grave on another trip so I had to come here to complete the trifecta. Had a good conversation with the ranger and walked around the area.
I visited the Fredericksburg battlefield visitor center. An important piece of American history and worth the ~2+ hr visit.
It was a beautiful day and a cute little walk and learned some awesome history
Very knowledgeable and help volunteers. We were happy to learn so much about the area.
A Small Confederate battlefield with some unique photos. I understood how this place was significant in history. A cool cemetery right beside the visitor center.
There is a lot to explore! I use Lee Drive several times a week to run. There are several miles of trails that run alongside Lee Drive to get in some nice running or hiking. Kid and dog friendly.
Fascinating stuff, and right in your backyard. While all of the battlefields in the greater F'burg/Spotsy/Stafford area are worth the visit, this one offers more in the way of guided tours, etc.
The rangers are very informative. If you are looking to stamp your national park passport it is in the shop.
There's not a whole lot to see. There are pretty trails that go up the hill to where the battle took place, but you can't see much of the town or the river because of the trees. It's a nice walk in the fall. There's a large cemetery where 20,000 Civil War soldiers, known and unidentified, are buried. That's about it!
I really enjoyed my time at Chatham. It does a great job telling it's story, it was not crowded on a beautiful spring Saturday, it has great views, and beautiful grounds. Worth the trip and time if you are in the area.
Very pretty took some photos there. Wished bathrooms was available had to make 10 min drive to sheetz.
Lots of great Civil War history and artifacts as well as the interred, Rest In Peace.
History. Got my National Park stamp here again today. They have an awesome diorama from 1935.
Please go, if just to see this statue. There's much we could learn from it today.
It's a Civil War battlefield......love Civil War history!!
The entire Fredericksburg/ Chancellorsville/Spotsylvania/Wilderness battlefield area is a terrific tour for the Civil war buff. You can walk the paths Civil War soldiers walked; see the trenches they used and visit sites you've heard about since middle school history class.
Coming onto plank rd/rt 3...traffic\ congestion. Friendly peop l e
My 3rd day out here and I love it! It's a wonderful place to take a walk and just enjoy nature. I plan on using this area for my fitness journey with my fur babies on a regular.
I love visiting these parks. As a northerner, we should all go down south and see the history and not try to delete it but understand it and pass it along.
Amazing history and informational boards to explain what happened.
Excellent time of year to walk the hiking paths!
We enjoyed going out to the cabin site and also seeing the large rock pyramid near the train rails. I can imagine that in the summer it would be impossible to get out there as there's a lot of high weeds around the pyramid in particular. So, lack of bugs and less weed growth made for an easy hike.
Great history, glad part of this historic battlefield has been preserved.
The rangers are super knowledgeable, and the movie is very interesting. Nice short stop.
Got a lot of good information. Volunteers were very knowledgeable and helpful.
Hands down.....Fredericksburg VA is THE greatest city in this infinitely historic state.
I enjoyed the tour. It is worth going to and taking a look at.
Enjoyed Fredericksburg..the 'Swale', and the house where Confederate sharpshooters would fire down on the Union troops, trying to tale shelter behind a small (4-6 inches) uprising of land, the 'Swale.' The bullet holes, from the Union troops, firing uphill at the sharpshooters, were left in the house, and, I'm tellin' ya, they were the size of a nickel.
Very Nice and intetesting Historical Park about Civil War.
This was such an informative, intriguing, enchanting, evening put on by the US Parks Service. Cudos to everyone who came together to make this happen. I always wondered what a rebel yell was whole riding the coaster at Kings Dominion. And now I know!!
You can almost hear the solemn bugle in the cemetery. Walking along Sunken Road will almost bring you right into the war itself! Very awe-inspiring. This place personifies the Civil War. Great place to visit!
I enjoyed seeing the old sunken road. Wish they had more than one bathroom however!
Even though it was freezing my boys and my nephews who were visiting us enjoyed it
History that was embarrassing for the Victor's to tell...
Outstanding American Civil War memorial and historic location. EVERYONE should see this.
