Great place to learn history! There are special presentations every Memorial Day to remember Fredericksburg residents killed in several different wars. National Parks Service gives walking tours.
On site Museum , Gift Shop and interactive Two Level self guided or guided tours of the grounds. Allow approximately 1-1/2 hours to cover most of the sites.
The most important Civil War site to visit besides Gettysburg. Truly heartwrenching. Seeing the original stone wall with the bullet holes, so thankful it has been preserved.
Such fascinating and close-to-home history. The park has many relics which still stand today; it's amazing to be so close to one of the major conflict points of the Civil War.
Very knowledgeable staff. Real close to other civil war battlefields.
Great historical spot. I could have spent a few more days going through the area.
Great people at the park sites, great pieces of history.
Helpful people with loads of valuable free books and brochures as well as souvenirs. Wheelchair accessible with washrooms and parking.
Historic civil war battlefield and cemetery. Nice walking tour
After getting my oil changed in Richmond , I was driving north towards home and I couldn t pass up the opportunity to visit Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park as the location wasn t that far off the highway. I started my journey at the Stonewall Shrine a little south of the National Park. Parking was a breeze even though I arrived when a tourist group began their tour. My trusty companion and I walked on the very dugouts the stonewall was built. Raw , real history in the flesh happened at the various spots I walked to learn more about our nations past wars . It wasn t crowded and best of all it everything was free . A chance to learn about how the world thought and acted upon is never a disappointment . I couldn t visit the cemetery for obvious reasons but I could feel a sense of pain and pride soldiers endured back then as a veteran myself who can relate to hardships . 10/10 recommended park to visit in Virginia
There is a lot of civil war history in Fredericksburg. The visitor center had nice displays and a movie to watch that was very nicely done. The guided tour of the battlefield was a nice supplement to the information placards. The walking path was a relatively easy half mile loop from the visitors center and gave a good feel for the momentous events that took place on that battlefield.
Nice place, small parking lot behind visitor center. A few signs telling you what happend here.
Quiet and peaceful. Signs were informative. I only wish the house was open. You cam walk threw grounds but can't go inside
Was under construction, couldn't view the house inside.
Well preserved historical site. Trail was a nice hike. Museum was closed due to COVID but the gift shop was open.
Beautiful town, so much history and a great weekend getaway! Highly recommend this.
A very solemn and important Civil War site to visit with your family.
I grew up on the West Coast and had no idea of the number of souls who lost their lives 150 years ago...I have to admit, coming down the hill from the cemetery, I was emotional....
I was here in winter 1862, so cold and people were trying to kill me! 0/5 would not visit
Interpretation was good, but museum lacks artifacts from the war.
Friendly an knowledgeable staff, patient with the middle school students. The center has enough attractive and informative displays to fill at least an entire day with learning. Poignant and moving and fascinating.
The cemetery on Marye's Heights is a very tranquil place to spend an afternoon.
Nice 6 mile walk/run route. Hills!!! Lots of shade, history and nice people
There's nothing here but battlefields, but it's a great place to get close to nature. It is beautiful and peaceful. The park service also does an excellent job keeping up with the grounds.
Great battlefield visit and tour...very organized and neat experience!
Great place to visit and learn about the history of the battles. The tours are vast and fun. Great places to have fun and walk with the dog..
It was very interesting. Went to the military cemetery and found my grandfather's grave.
Visiting historic Fredericksburg Virginia was very interesting. We went to the main visitor center just west of downtown. We did the walking tour and saw the famous stone wall at Mayre's Heights. We also visited the store. The National Cemetery is located just above the center on the hill with a monument. A driving tour takes you through the Prospect Hill area of the battlefield.
Love history, see it before america finishes erasing it.
I enjoyed walking and looking at the cannons and the plaques learning more about the war.
Excellent. Well worth the visit. A museum of the usual high standard expected from the NPS, a film (nominal charge), a very fine ranger-led 35- minute short tour (no charge) which is easily extended by walking the trail on one s own initiative. After a couple of hours doing this, there s a driving tour outlined in the excellent leaflet. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. One can learn a great deal about a very significant Civil War battle; altogether a day very well spent.
The movie is worth it. Price is reasonable. The sign displays can give you the same information, but the events acted out give you a better visual effect. There is an easy trail behind the visitor center. The Fredericksburg National Cemetery is next to it.
Husband is a big history buff. We toured s lot of differrnce
i have been here lots of times. and I always come back because this is tells part of the story that made America the way it is. the grounds are very hilly they have a gift shop that is big and spacious the only bathroom's that i could find is in the visitors center is downstairs . but to see a movie that talks about the battlefield And what happen there you have to pay for it."The park service also does an excellent job keeping up with the grounds.""The park service also does an excellent job keeping up with the grounds.""Great place to run, walk, or bike!"
Beautiful and full of history! Amazing to learn about a war and is a shame that people want these places gone.
I really enjoyed the tours, and looking around on my own. A lot of history here. The tour guides at both parks were very friendly and helpful! They answered all the questions asked and knew their stuff.
Looks like you're walking in history here. Beautiful, organized, well located place. Friendly staff.
Great and well preserved battlefield. The amount of history here is astounding.
Nice area to walk around and enjoy scenery and history. Perfect spot for out of state tourists. Bathroom with wheelchair ramp available
Excellent visitors center. Friendly rangers. So many died there and in battlefields all over the South. Sad to realize how many fell, on both sides.
Very cool and satisfying adventure. Spent time at national war park and graveyard...Went to old plantation that was former union hospital.
Easyest accessible battalefield in the area and close to downtown Fredericksburg
Love my run thru.... Loosing the trees..,with the leaves
Interesting and sad. There is a lot to learn about our history and heroes you've never heard of before. My favorite was the confederate soldier who brought water to injured Union soldiers on the battlefield. Richard Rowland Kirkland
What a wonderful, peaceful place. So much history surrounded by modern life. The staff here are knowledgeable, the grounds are well maintained. It's beautiful throughout the year. If you're a history buff, wanting to learn more about this beautiful area or looking for a place to have a quiet and reflective moment, then visit this location and enjoy.
VOC is a great place. Can't wait to go back to canoe some more. Worth every penny.
Cool battlefield to walk through. A good amount of information to read and learn about. There are guided walking tours given multiple times a day or you can walk on your own. The walk is less than half a mile and it's a combination of gravel and pavement so wear comfortable shoes.
They've done a wonderful job updating the visitor center. I highly recommend a visit on your trip to the battlefield.
Recommend taking the walk way path - enjoy the historical views of the Civil War that engulfed the area back in the day. As always, it is best to read up a little bit before going in person but it is not necessary.
I didn't realize how big this place was. There are several different areas that follow the battle from the Wilderness through Spotsylvania and beyond. Sorry and moderate take to hike, and shelters with paintings and plaques so you can visit even if it's raining.
The yearly luminaria event is awesome to see and participate in. The fact that over 15,000 soldiers are buried here and many are unknown is amazing. You really feel humbled when on the grounds and know so many died fighting.
Wonderful place to really learn about the civil war and see the battle lines
Visited the day of the Illuminary at the cemetery. It was my first time at the battlefield and the cemetery and its a great site! My ancestor which is pictured here died after the battle from disease and is buried in the cemetery. It was humbling to visit where he was buried with other American soldiers!
Amazing History at this site in America. A whole lot of young Soldiers lost their lives here. Definitely have much respect for all the Soldiers that fought here at this site in North America. The Great USA !!!!!!!!
Nice visitor center with many exhibits and a 22 minute video explaining the battle here.
This is a beautiful park. It's amazing to walk where the battle actually happened and see remnants of the civil war. The cemetery up top is peaceful to walk through and well-maintained.
The visitor's center has some really great displays with good information. The NPS staff and volunteers are very helpful and knowledgeable. We always being family here when they come in from out of town.
A great look into Fredericksburg's history and as a part of the war.
Parking is it super great depending on the time of day but other than that it's pretty great
This park and cemetery are very much worth visiting. Be sure to visit the bookstore as well!
Beautiful battlefield. The part of the original wall is well preserved.
Beautiful grounds, rolling hills, great park staff, VERY friendly and knowledgeable, small but great gift shop!!!
Beautiful property! Our tour guide thru the house was fantastic! Well worth the stop!
So much history to absorb. Well with the visit, take the time to learn about the major battles fought in this area
