I was a DJ/Guest for a friends Christmas celebration and she hired a hall at the hotel. (I was more of a guest than a hired service)
When dropping off, I was told to go the back entry as I was bringing equipment.
From the first employee interaction he gave me a cold impression, I thought it would just be him but I was wrong.
-he asked me to follow but walked off till I couldn't see them. knowing I was carrying equipment he didn't ask once to help or to even help with the door.
- I was not given a trolley, I was told to go collect the trolley myself by the supervisor. At first she was not going to guide me, she thought it would be okay to give me directions despite the basement being a huge maze for anyone that hasn't been there before. I had to push the trolley from a storage room to my equipment, put the equipment on the trolley and then push it to the hall. I was following her and she kept walking off.
- Another issue I had with the supervisor, she made me wait 10-15 mins because she said she needed to sort out another job and she didn't want keep going up and down. The conversation started off professional and then became causal for the last 3/4 of it.
- I made a complaint about the members to Jonathan but he instead defended their actions and not one person apologised.
- meanwhile preparing the event, the supervisor she said to me "You look tired, do you want a coffee". Those kinds of smug comments are not professional to any guest or 3rd party members (Even if I was tired I don't need to be told that).
I have DJed at the St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel and other hotels and bars. I have never experienced staff this cold and lacking in courtesy. I understand why they may not want to touch my equipment but they weren't even friendly towards me. I am a black male and I am not going to use the black card but the supervisor only asked if I wanted to help when there were other guests (both black and white middle aged couple). this was right at the end and I declined because I don't trust people that lack professionalism.
Positives:
While clearing up, kindly one of the bar men brought the trolley to me without me asking but he is not an employee of the 4 seasons but an hired agency bar men.
Sofia that works at the hotel was a pleasure to work with and spoke to me with respect before the event and during. Unlike the others that spoke me like I was their employee.
I hope the hotel fixes up how they treat 3rd parties because this is not face value does not mean it is not important, as it can affect the quality of service provided.
