Beautiful state park. Great place to take the family camping! There is a mini grocery store, mini golf, laundry, & very nice and spacious shower & bathroom area. Only thing I didn't like was the speed limit is 15mph thru the camp & that's way too fast. & to go to the pool the park has, even campers have to pay to swim. But, it's a huge, nice & lifeguarded youth Olympic size pool with a kiddie pool and fountains. All in all, it's quiet, beautiful and totally worth It!

The demonstrations that were open were wonderful..my kids especially loved Jo the lady who did the spinning demo. Everything was great...I do wish I had know about the Hands on kid teaching weekend before we went but that just means we have to go back...we enjoyed it very much!

We were at Fort Boonesborough about June 2012 . The cost for adults to get in was $10. The "reconstructed fort" is not in the same location as the original fort, it is close though. The buildings all have electricity. The walkways were paved..... most items in the gift shop are modern and very little historically correct. Prices are higher than expected. The good part was the parched corn and parched peas were very good. We will not go back . Just for a place to go it is ok.... but if you think it is or will be historically correct you will be disappointed.

Enjoyed all the historical exhibits. Stayed at the campground during my visit and I have to say it was not great. Unfortunately the park is located along a route that is a shortcut from I-75 to I-64. Truckers love it, but campers get no reprieve...all night long.

Note: Although we also visited Fort Boonesborough (the historical reproduction), this review is strictly limited to the accompanying campground.

Would not recommend, would not stay here again given any other options. Here's why:

Upon check-in, we did not receive any of the "typical" information one would expect. E.g., an area map, a brochure on the fort, activities, etc. They told us they "ran out" when we asked.

Site was advertised as "level, with water hook-ups". Site was not really level (due to crumbling pavement) and "water hook-ups" were approximately100' from the site. Indeed, we didn't even see them until the second day as they were so far away and covered by weeds.

Although the campground was advertised as having a pool, there was an additional charge of $4/person (unadvertised). We decided to try the pool anyways, and after a single 20 minute rain shower followed by sunny skies we decided to hike to the pool only to discover it was closed for the day because, in the words of an employee, "It rained." You have got to be kidding me.

However, what really made our visit nearly unbearable was the lack of cleanliness. We arrived early Friday evening to discover the bathrooms/showers trashed. The situation only deteriorated from there, as the campground was full (150+) and the showers/bathrooms were not cleaned all day/all night on Saturday. Fellow campers showed little regard to their environment, with plenty of trash scattered around the common areas and abandoned sites. "Gross" doesn't begin to capture the stench and nastiness that presented itself Sunday morning.

Unfortunately, if you want to camp near Lexington there aren't many other options. But for $30 a night, this campground can and should do much, MUCH better.

Overall Fort Boonesbough is a nice campground. The back in sights can be difficult to get into especially if you have a longer RV. No sewer makes it difficult for longer stays. A lot of sights are shaded and the bathrooms and showers are clean.

The campground is next to a BUSY truck thoroughfare and a quarry. The trucks run all night with jakebrakes a singing and all cars hit every drunk bump down the hill. The quarry starts at 6am with much noise. Would be quieter camping next to the interstate. Decent campground otherwise. Can't say how the fort itself is as it was closed when we hiked to it at 1 in the afternoon though the signs said it was open 9am to 4pm.

Clean campground. One of the nicer state park shower houses we have used. Truck noise from the nearby highway is loud throughout night. Suggest a site as far as possible from that road. Larger sites do not have many trees. I guess some prefer that. We prefer shade.

A step back in time...wonderful cast of performers. Each period cabin offered a different tale to be told. My wife and I were taken with thoughtful displays that transport you to an era of our forgotten past.

Our 3 children ( all under 5) also enjoyed the presentations being given by the inhabitants of the Fort. We will definitely be back!

Very interesting, mostly self-conducted historical tour. With the presence of a very knowledgable reenactor, much unusual information was additionally available. A little "off the beaten path", but well worth the effort.

The main location was closed for the winter, but it was still super interesting to see structures that have been around for a few hundred years, and to connect actual historical figures to physical places

Great place for families, couples or just alone to go to. Great beach and lots of picnic tables that are under shelter and a park. Glad they were open back and everyone was actually still following the safety guidelines we so unfortunately have aquired.

Very educational.

Very educational.
The short movie kept both the adults and children interested. Our grandson really enjoyed the tomahawk throwing that he got to try. The fort had around 12 cabins with period demonstrators in 4 of them.
