The collection was not accessible for a special exhibition. After a long journey and expensive admission, our small group found that the works in the collection could not be seen. No corresponding notice on the Internet! No sign, no information when entering, and then no understanding when complaining about this (as we find) unacceptable visitor deception. The suspicion arises that there is deliberately no reference to any restrictions in order not to limit visitor potential. This is not appreciated by a cultural institution and does not correspond to the ideal and model of a foundation that literally "wants to make art accessible", especially not with an admission price of 26.00 per visitor. We are very upset and can only warn of this disappointment.

There is no better and nicer museum. A long journey is also worthwhile, because the exhibitions are also worth every effort. Because there are still great goals all around, you shouldn't let it be accomplished in one day. You can even cope with the Swiss prices that are actually used to make this country a big arc.

Visited the second exhibition just now (Picasso) and it was a amazingly well curated as the first one (Balthus) I saw. Paired with the beautiful grounds and architecturally interesting exhibition hall it's well worth a visit. However, it is rather expensive and parking could be better.

Good location and very friendly staff
Unique exhibitions which certainly have a long lead time.
A great meeting place for and with the arts.

This is the least child-friendly museum I have ever visited. There is a range of random rules depending of where you are in the exhibition - children were forbidden to walk "next to walls" in some rooms, needed to be carried (but not on the shoulders because "you never know") in others. Rules were implemented by a glum staff that conveyed the all the happiness you'd expect in the waiting room of a dentist. The place has excellent light and would really benefit from reviewing its attitude toward young visitors.

Visited Hopper exhibition, been here for the first time. Arriving by tram without any problems, first passing the entrance, may happen. Box office early in the morning with giant snake. Had pre-purchased online, but free entry for children requires registration at the ticket office and the issuing of blind tickets ... luckily the admission controller took pity on us and let us go straight through.
Location very nice for a museum, exhibition was absolutely worth seeing. Shop nice too, took us a poster.
A clear recommendation, but be sure to pre-order tickets.

When talking about art museum, the experience is the most important. The space, the works of art, the light ... everything belongs together. When I was approached for the third time on how to 'properly' wear my little handbag, the moment was destroyed. So French and Italians are a lot more 'chilled' than Baselers ... if you're too scared that visitors might break something, just do not let them carry bags, POINT

Insightful exhibition of Alberto Giacometi and Francis Bacon. Giacometi being one of my favourite sculptors, stole the show at the exhibition with his exquisite statues portraying humans in different perspectives.

INCREDIBLE!!!

INCREDIBLE!!!

We ordered a blouse with a voucher of CHF 20.- where postage would also be free. Now the blouse was sent without deduction from the voucher and the postage was also charged, whereupon we called Beyeler and wanted to have it explained to us. We were then informed that it was a third-party product and that the voucher could not be used for it. Of course, we didn't want to fall for this snake-catching job and said so on the phone. The reaction from the unprofessional worker was that she hung up the phone. A huge mess, since we've been a Beyeler customer for years. But that was .. We will never order there again. We have also forwarded the whole thing to consumer protection and informed our legal protection. They'll take care of the matter now.
Think carefully about whether you want to order from such an unfriendly and unprofessional place. A fashion house that sends catalogs with third-party products where the great advertised campaign does not count. Cheap - like the fashion house itself! We do not accept that.

The Picasso exhibition is a must for lovers of modern art. Despite significantly more visitors than usual, there is never crowds here and thanks to the spacious rooms you can look at each picture in peace. In principle, every exhibition here is a special event.

The structure is already worth the visit.

The structure is already worth the visit.
The collection is small but well-kept in the spaces and in the selection.
In the nearby restaurant you can request a picnic basket to be enjoyed in the park that surrounds you ... a stop under an authentic Calder is priceless!

Modern Fondation with changing exhibitions in Riehen near the border, currently Picasso. Works and their compositions in dreams always very innovative. The ventilation in the museum could be better with larger streams of visitors.

Outstanding park, architecture and collection!

Outstanding park, architecture and collection!

Hopper exhibition - at least over a weekend - a let down. Hopper s solitary work calls for tranquility. One needs room to maneuvre, quiet, pieceful moments to indulge. That is what the movie of the exhibition tries to convey, that is not possible. Dommage

Very disappointing. Current exhibition "Resonating Spaces" is absolutely NOT worth seeing. We met in 20 min. by tortured.
The permanent exhibition was closed, but we still had to pay the full price.
One star is still too much.

A conceptually well-designed exhibition building with great views of the landscape. The exhibits contain not only excellent exhibits but also smart extras.
Rest areas are generously provided.
Unfortunately, the prices in the museum shop and restaurants for non-Swiss with normal earnings are hard to follow.

I would rate this among the top attraction in Basel if you have even a moderate amount of interest in Modern Art. The architecture of the building is interesting and the grounds of the campus are also beautiful. The ticket is moderately expensive at 20 francs but I would still say it's worth it. There is a garage across the street for parking.

About Fondation Beyeler

Fondation Beyeler: A Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Riehen/Basel

Fondation Beyeler is a world-renowned museum of modern and contemporary art located in Riehen, a suburb of Basel, Switzerland. The museum was founded by Ernst Beyeler, a Swiss art dealer and collector, in 1997. Since then, it has become one of the most important cultural institutions in Europe.

The mission of Fondation Beyeler is to provide visitors with an unforgettable experience that combines art, nature, and architecture. The museum's collection includes works by some of the most famous artists of the 20th century such as Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne and many others.

One unique aspect of Fondation Beyeler is its location. The museum is situated on the edge of a forest park that provides visitors with stunning views over the surrounding landscape. This setting creates an atmosphere that encourages contemplation and reflection on both nature and art.

The architecture of Fondation Beyeler also plays an important role in creating this unique experience for visitors. Designed by Renzo Piano - one of the world's leading architects - the building itself is a work of art that seamlessly blends into its natural surroundings.

In addition to its permanent collection which features over 300 works from various periods including Impressionism to contemporary art movements such as Pop Art or Minimalism; Fondation Beyeler also hosts temporary exhibitions throughout the year showcasing new artists or themes related to modern or contemporary arts.

Visitors can enjoy guided tours led by knowledgeable staff members who are passionate about sharing their love for art with others. There are also audio guides available for those who prefer self-guided tours.

For families with children there are special programs designed specifically for kids including workshops where they can create their own artworks inspired by what they see at Fondation Beyeler.
