Flughafen Frankfurt-Hahn Review

WARNING: this is not the main Frankfurt (international airport). Upon leaving Germany, we looked up the Frankfurt airport and this airport was shown prominently. Although it is called Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, it is not the airport that we needed. The main airport where we needed to get onto a Delta flight is called Frankfurt am Main. When we arrived and saw that it was not the right airport (being very small and regional), we had to hurry and get to the main Frankfurt airport and we barely made our flight. The GPS would have been more helpful if we understood German. This was our mistake and I m not criticizing the signage, but just a friendly warning to other unsuspecting travelers.

Problematic hotspots, very small airport, cumbersome security control, and in addition the service behaves as if using English was humiliating for them.

Small airport. Almost no connection to public services. No airport staff (to rent a car, info-point etc.) at night even though there are landing airplanes. Never again - I will rather pay more to fly from a bigger airport than coming back to Hahn.

Travelled in the afternoon on July 16th, the lady on the boarding pass control Gate B (befor coming to luggage screening) very unfrienfly and rude.

The bus from the airport runs very rarely, you often have to wait more than an hour, yesterday left 25 minutes late.
The staff is not polite.
To rent a car is not possible - all are reserved ....
Taxi from Mainz to the airport is about 140 . Bus 15 , but there is a risk not to be in time.

Nice small manageable airport. Unfortunately not so much going on anymore. But again anytime.

Quick out of it. Here you are fast from A to B. Fleet clearance. Fly from here. The kilometer-long running is eliminated as in other airports. Who sticks to the rules of the game at Ryanair and Co. flies also cheap. Allow enough time for check in baggage check.

Convenient location for travel to Mainz / Wiesbaden

Small airport outside Frankfurt (approx. 120 Kms). Used by low budget airlines. There are bus connections from ghere to international airport or Frankfurt city.

Fast food services, car rental with languages in Spanish, but no customer service.

If you have a problem no one helps you to solve it anyway they made me miss the plane and I had to make another ticket no refund nothing was great rude and I wouldn't want to talk too much ... I think those who talk about it well and because they have never found themselves with small difficulties, they do not take much and they do not let you go

It is a good alternative to Frankfurt's main airport. It has the essentials and is calm.

A very small airport. It could use a free Wi-Fi zone and better signage at the exit.

Staff incapable and rude, that also applies to Ryanair. The airport as a whole neglected. Anyone who is satisfied here applauds even after landing, because the captain has not put the machine in the field or worse.

I am forced to throw away my medical supplies when I cannot do without them on my return flight when I had no worries about my outbound flight. Result 60th of non reimbursable medicines thrown away because of incompetent and since my flight is late I could not take my treatments for several days because eve of public holiday. No matter how nicely I explained the situation several times, the staff did not once try to understand my concern. Personal very unpleasant to remain polite because apart from answering me "not here" and "if you don t want you don t take plane" I was told nothing and explained nothing. An aberration ! If I could put a zero star that's what I would do because a service like this doesn't even deserve a star.

Small airport which is very easy to reach and because of the size is not confusing or complicated. Often cheap flights with Ryanair.

Horrible experience... this airport located very far away from city. No store and Toilette after custom control. The seats at waiting area is limited...So a lot of people have to standing or sitting on the ground and waiting.
The garbage airport is very small and broken, far away from the city, and there is no bus at night. The entire gate 8 and 9 are delayed by just one flight. It doesn t matter if the waiting area is made more comfortable. After customs, there are no toilets or shops. There are not enough seats. People who arrive late can only sit on the ground or stand. Come the second time.

The airport is small and clear, only the wireless connection is annoying ...

Of course, those who say that this is a good airport, have serious psychic problems or obvious economic interests in affirming it. I have traveled from this airport 3 times, my mother instead 5 times. Apart from the fact that you do not understand the name, since I lived in Frankfurt and this place with such a famous and important city has nothing to do, the staff is arrogant: once they sent me back with the sorry that my sachet of liquids was not suitable (I use the same type to travel anywhere and never made problems of any kind except at this airport); another time they made me pay on the 50 euro penalty for a pound and a half more weight on the baggage, the responsible lady teased me for the pronunciation in German with irritated and not at all professional expressions; once again I forgot a bracelet on the control desk and went back to ask to check and the attendant pushed me literally screaming to step aside immediately and be more careful next time: you must believe me, it was one of the biggest humiliations suffered in my life. Really attitudes devoid of all logic! My mother, on the other hand, has once destroyed the phone by submitting it to every kind of machine because for them there was never understood what. He lost the plane and was left alone without any assistance. Fortunately, he succeeded with the tablet to get in touch with a relative who lives in a city near Frankfurt (the real one) and to be helped, since he does not speak either English or German. Who justifies this treatment with low ticket prices, evidently lost its dignity some time ago. Remember that, regardless of the price of flights, these people are paid to do their jobs.

It would need more parking signs. Otherwise a quiet airport

Rude as hell customs guy. Was just a plain jerkoff. Learn to be nice to people since your damn job is customer service! Had to wait in line in the cold to get to the customs guy which was a jerk. Plus I paid 50 euro for parking in an airport that isn't busy at all for a week. Good way to get your money back for all those refugees your housing. Go screw your self Hahn Airport!

An airport in the middle of nowhere. After just under 4 hours traveling by car, it gets scarce with time. But 40 minutes to take off should be enough. Check-in has already been done online. Then security check and passport control. Big relief; in time in the waiting area in front of the gate. There are about 20 travelers, who we assumed would be waiting for the same flight as well. Can it be a delay? Unfortunately, this turned out to be a mistake after our access was closed. They were obviously waiting for another flight.
We complain:
No decent signage for access to the plane, just a monitor, no hints.
No appeal to the missing passengers, neither anonymous nor by name, which is common everywhere else! This would have helped us a lot!
Conclusion: 800 km drive and 1 day free time.
Flight costs, car rental and hotel booking expire.
No more Frankfurt-Hahn !! Only because of the price advantage it is not worth it.
Every other known airport offers a better service!

Difficult to see such an ugly airport! Dilapidated and smelly bathrooms, very few services inside, if you rent a car you have to take a shuttle to pick it up, not all the staff speak English, and the controls are really excessive!

This is not as bad as one may think. 2 hours by bus / 1 hour by auto to Frankfurt am Main. Many low-cost airlines. It's a good alternative to a real Frankfurt am Main airport, if you have a lot of time and are looking for cheap flights.

A nice secondary airport for low budget flights to western Germany. Mainly a Ryanair hub. There are connection busses to Frankfurt, Manheim, Heidelberg etc.

Cheap fares, airport itself rather small and nothing special.

The airport is small, but confusing. Parking, as well as other products are very expensive. In addition, the visitor terrace in wet weather is not to enter, because it has no roof.

Negative:

The visit to the toilets remains in scary memory. The poorly cleaned toilets are hardly illuminated with light. (Probably to darken their condition?)
When I used the children's washbasin with my 3-year-old son, he suddenly had a blood-soaked paper towel in his hand next to the sink. My older son told me that 45 minutes earlier, when he was using the toilet, this paper towel was already noticed. Apparently no one feels really responsible for the cleanliness of the sanitary facilities.
At the time of the return, the baggage claim to the conveyor belt lasted for an hour. Incredible as I think.
I could hardly use any mobile data. Despite reception, there was no sufficient bandwidth. And this, in an airport with many visitors.
The culmination of my visit was the bus driver at the terminal, who had almost hit my little son, and then reacted with cursing, screaming and honking.
Too bad he did not have the courage to get out.

All in all, an unforgettable experience.

Missed my flight because there is no announcements, their speakers do not fuction anymore. In addition to that, there is no space at the gates, there is very few seats but there is hundreds of people waiting. Of course I was told it's my fault because I was sitting on the floor and couldn't see antything and relied instead on the announcements which never came on. Horrible

50 for one week for parking, 100 for one week and 5h. To be taken into account in the budget according to your arrival times.

Unkind, they have no sense of helping the people whit some problem abouth traveling and ticket, if there is a further conversation they call security and kick you out. Do we have to remind them that thay have a job only because of the passenger?

This is a surprisingly rubbish airport. It looks good, but isn't. Service is also woeful. Security are too busy chatting, rather than watching their screens. The prosecco bar had run out of prosecco, and the staff seemed not to care. If you have to fly through here, do so, but avoid it if you can.

I'm not sure why people complain when there is a cheap fare. If you want just fly through the main airport and pay more ! I'm pretty sure you will get good service.

I'm a group I lost a bag in which an Ipad at the airport and I saw the airport.

Small airport dispersed in the middle of the German countryside. Convenient for who wants to spend little (thanks to the ryanair routes), but quite inconvenient to get to Frankfurt center. The bus, which costs 15 euros one way, takes an hour and a quarter to arrive at the Frankfurt train station. A different story than the other airport, 10 minutes from the city center.

Very small airport with very little offer. McDonald and little else. It is very far from Frankfurt and transportation is expensive.
You come here because Ryanair prices and then you spend the same or more on going to Frankfurt.
When it rains they do not have any kind of catwalk so as not to get wet while you get on the plane.

They made me fuss about the transparent sachet of liquids which was slightly larger than normal .. All the creams in the basket! When boarding the flight, a lady of the airport staff forced me to send my baggage in the hold when instead there were people who boarded quietly .. The lady even yanked and threatened me .. very rude staff and I dare say racist

Not much to say about this. Staff is bad and mean, not very helpful if you have a problem and rude. Avoid this airport.

If you are flying Ryanair to Germany you'll likely end up at this airport. It is small but functional but don't plan on spending more time here than you need to.

Not too many passport lines so you are in for a bit of a wait.

Car rental desks are located in the airport but the cars are located a bit of a walk away so does take a while to get there.

But has everything you need and when flying budget airlines it works just fine. Out of the way so definitely rent a car to get away from here :)

This is hands down the WORST airport I have ever been to. It s disgusting, it s overcrowded and extremely unsecure: when I got inside the airplane found my backpack unzipped.

When you land, you exit the plane and walk OUTSIDE the terminal along sketchy pathways for 5 minutes and have to re-enter the airport.

We had to re-enter security even though we were transferring because the airport is so unsecure and has passengers go outside. This is the absolute worst place to have a layover. Never again!!!

It is a really small airport. There weren't many people so everything went really swiftly. The flight was on time so I can't say any bad word about this airport.

There are no vans and bus stops too far from the airport

Small airport with poor public transport connections but cheap airfares. Main hub for Ryanair. Sorry, but who - like some - only realizes after the Ryanair booking where the airport is, cannot be helped. I can't complain, I fly off the tap 10-20 times a year.

Once traveled from here. I do not have to have that again. The airport is at the end of the world. The name Frankfurt / Hahn is something of a misnomer. Not even a nearby motorway that could possibly make the trip bearable. Ample parking.

great airport. He is small and you reach allles well without problems. If you book the parking in advance, it remains completely affordable. Sometimes it is also advantageous to think further than just 10 seconds into the future and to take care of it beforehand. The connection to the public transport is expandable, after all, now drives next to FIBICO and Flixbus this airport. Toilets are very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Shops have everything you need, books, coffee and McDonalds. My absolute highlight, however, is to be able to walk on the taxiway and sometimes not only for 5 meters.

Cheap flights, cheap parking, very clear, short waiting times - such as bus driving. Top price - performance. Those who whine should fly from Frankfurt (Main) for 3-4 times !!!

Small airport with good parking facilities, it is best to reserve online beforehand. Nice and helpful employees. Clean sanitary facilities. Uncomplicated handling. Smoking areas in the outside area.

A unique experience in my life, I visited so many airports in the world, never meet these characters. I have said that I have been coming to Frankfurt for 20 years with a direct flight, so I had to land from Lamezia terme in this remote area of ahhai. The staff of the controls like the sheriffs, they didn't check to prevent terrorism, they hunt down the ghosts, they emptied my suitcase with a lot of impetuosity, throwing all the clothes on the ground including eyeglasses. But the most serious problem, when I started discussing with these characters, began to offend by Italian, mafia, spaghetti, pizza, and mandolin. This airport is not recommended.
Gladly was in other reviews on the low price. Unfortunately, one has the same disadvantages even with airline tickets of 200 euros. Despite fast track, priority and VIP passenger one waits in the same queue as all other passengers also. Then one after 20min. Waiting time announced, which is now 15min. is too late and must pay a whopping 275 euros for checking in the luggage. A bold impudence and insolence.
The waiting area at departure is a scandal, only 50 seats for up to 180 passengers. In addition still Gerenne and nagging of the passengers without fixed seat. The toilet system already overstrained with 2 departures and overcrowded with long queues. If only 2 toilets are available, which are in a miserable condition, that is predictable.
The "catering areas" way too small, with only one staff occupied, which should then serve, clear away, clean dishes, produce sandwiches, etc. A coffee after 15min. Waiting time for 5 euros is probably the rule rather than the exception. Work gloves or other hygienic measures are consistently ignored. Everything is touched with one and the same hand of the employee.

Not the airport u want to pick. Be very careful. This airport is not in frankfurt but actually in Hahn the airport you want to go to is frankfurt International. This airport is about 130km from frankfurt. I was lucky enough to walk out and have a bus waiting but on the way flight back at 6:30 it's not great getting a bus from frankfurt city to Hahn. The central station isn't the safest place at night to be at. The marketing by ryanair is disgusting. Whilst writing this I'm actually on the way to the airport which is so called "Frankfurt" HAHN

Airport where the Nazi guards to bother you and create problems do everything but I think they were wrong and there should be a good control because in a country as big and free as Germany there is still this disgusting human beings

Far from Frankfurt but easy to get there (consider costs!). No sockets, really hard to charge phones.

To call Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is more than misleading. If you travel by train, you have to take the bus from Frankfurt, Mainz or Koblenz. The bus connection is not bad, but the journey from Frankfurt main station to Hahn Airport takes about 100 minutes, just as long as you need the ICE from Stuttgart to Frankfurt. Positive: the short distances, hotel directly opposite Terminal Negative: Gastronomy offer in the summer not enough, announcements leave something to be desired.

Only our kind approval will not buy the airport and buy a ticket to fly over. It is not the largest Frankfurt International Airport in Europe. It is simply the airport of Frankfurt. More than 100 kilometers from the real Flange Airport and the central station, the fare is 19 Euros.
