I think when advertising certain packages on your website ie 'Couples Autumn escape' comes with a certain expectation. Arriving to a room not ready, then shuffled off to an annex building around the side of a house in the rain to a room which have frosted glass doors where you feel no privacy at all with people smoking just outside you door/window and people literally getting in and out of cars a few feet from this frosted glass does not scream escape. The package notes 'Romantic break' and 'Prosecco in room on arrival' which wasn t in our room on arrival we had to ask the manager George. We were not happy with the privacy aspect of the room we were given on arrival so reception sent over Manager George who came and graciously moved us to an upper level room upon request after listening to our concerns. George was very helpful and very quick to rectify the room situation. We also mentioned about the prosecco and that was sent over in 20mins to us. then after this we were able to relax and enjoy our surroundings. There's no doubt the hotel is in a beautiful setting, the staff are very accommodating in the restaurant and bar but i do feel the overall condition of the hotel could do with a loving upgrade. There is a difference between old country manor and shabby chic with the emphasis more on shabby than chic. I attended a wedding here a few years ago and found the hotel to have deteriorated since then. The meal in the Peacock restaurant was very nice, the ambience was lovely and the staff were very attentive and friendly. overall i think the hotel is missing a few points to really make it something special rather than rely on its name to see it through the future. i think when checking in you should be informed where all the facilities are in the hotel, the bar and general decor needs a refurb and i think for special packages there should be an option to pay extra to stay in the main part of the hotel.

I would have to say i probably wouldn't stay here again and would not consider it for a potential wedding venue in the future unless it dramatically changed. Although i did enjoy my stay it did not meet my expectations.

One star, only cos I can't give zero. Ordered lunch for 3 people at 1:15, one sandwich arrived, not what was ordered off the menu. No sign of the other 2 lunches an 1:45. It wasnt even busy. Left and went to the lord Lucan. I won't be in a hurry back. Very disappointing. I've had lovely lunches there in the past.

I was robbed at this hotel and then the manager proceeded to treat me like garbage and said it was my fault! Turns out this hotel is surrounded by an extremely bad neighborhood and that the hotel has absolutely no security to prevent crime. According to the hotel manager I should have known better than to park my Vespa scooter in the parking lot directly in front of my room, where it was stolen. When I went looking around the grounds, hoping I d find my bike stashed in the woods, I found numerous places where the perimeter fence had been cut, providing access to the run down council apartment developments I hadn t even realized surround the place (see photos). The worst part was the managers response - he offered me not so much as a conciliatory shot of Irish whiskey. He laughed rudely in my face when I finally asked what the hotel was going to do to make this right! I mean, my vacation is ruined!! My wife is in tears. We had planned to visit Dublin for the day, see some museums, now we re stuck in a crappy Irish suburb talking to the police. We have no transportation, and there s nothing within walking distance save for this hotel s overpriced and underwhelming restaurant and bar. And I ll starve before I ll give these people any more of my money!

I went to a Chistmas party here and it was fabulous! A beautiful building with the decor to match. All plush red carpet and paintings in gilt frames. The food is excellent and was hot when it came to the table. The staff are helpful and skilled. There was a very well stocked bar but it was really civilised. Altogether a really classy joint.

Was here for a short break with my wife. We didn t stay in the hotel itself but around the corner in the new building. The bed was not that comfortable but the room was nice and big enough for us both.
The bar was small and cosy and the staff were very polite and helpful. We sat and had dinner then drinks in the front of the house. Nice room with some lovely paintings on display.
Breakfast was okay with the usual Was here for a short break with my wife. We didn t stay in the hotel itself but around the corner in the new building food on offer in their buffet.
The grounds are nice to walk around, the main house is very nice.
Would come back again.

A step back in time, beautiful old buildings, fantastic gardens. Peacocks roam freely and the food first class. Staff who looked after us were professional and kind. Will be happy to go back.

Horrible place. Disgusting treatment. Push over staff. Discriminatory towards non-Irish customers. Ignorant, uneducated and unpleasant to look at and speak to. Bully, arrogant. Very self centered, only interested in our money and amount they re getting from the people. Zero humanity. Absent management. No one to complain to. Avoid that place at any means ! Save your mental health!!!

Hotel itself is in a lovely setting and place but the poor management and lack of customer service would stop me from ever recommending this place unfortunately. If I was even asked how was my stay, I would have dealt with it at the hotel but I wasn't and quite happy to leave. I chose to eat down the road at the Lord Lucan where both the food and service was brilliant.
