Simon-Aire PTAC in 5 years:
-3 FAN REPLACEMENTS(4th fan in 5 years)
-1 FREON LEAK
-CHRONIC COMPRESSOR ISSUES
I purchased a supposedly new Simon-Aire PTAC from Figlia which is their in-house brand. I normally don't write reviews good or bad, but Figlia & Sons and Simon-Aire deserve special recognition.
In YEAR 1 of the AC's operation, in addition to continuous compressor errors there was 1 freon leak, and 1 broken fan. Note: The unit is serviced and cleaned annually by my building's staff and an outside service.
In YEAR 3, the unit stopped working again due to a 2nd broken fan costing me an additional $200.00 for the part. Figlia's manager, CHRIS B., said the former fan blades were flawed and the new replacement would not break since he was involved in the fan's redesign. At the time, Chris B offered an additional 9 month warranty for my second fan replacement. I requested a two year warranty and he emailed,"Let's take one step at time right now your covered for the next 12 M. If problem continues I will deal with it at that time .."
In YEAR 5, the fan blade broke for the 3rd time, costing another $200.00 for the part. I've reached out to CHRIS B. over a dozen times and he will neither personally address this issue via phone nor email. Perhaps CHRIS B. is really busy redesigning and re engineering the fan again.
CHRIS B. finally had his HR manager contact me by email. While disregarding my repair questions, she proclaimed his good faith in offering an extended warranty on their 2nd fan replacement. Well, that fan just broke and I just paid Figlia for my 3rd replacement. It'd be helpful to hear from a technician, a repairman, or an engineer, but instead CHRIS B had the HR manager email me touting his generosity. That's right... Figlia had the HR manager address my repair issues.
I've requested to speak with someone at Figlia about about possible mechanical, misalignment, or installation issues causing the fan to break so frequently. Still no response... Maybe the PTAC would be durable if it had a backbone. I'd prefer to inspect, assess, and repair the unit, rather than continue to pay $200+ every year for a replacement fan.
Among other issues, 4 fans in 5 years is telling. Is Figlia obligated to offer any further assistance? No - However I would expect better from a $2000.00 Simon-Aire PTAC and the company manufacturing, selling, and servicing this brand.
Excellent service. Hildy and Sylvia (who led my job) are fantastic. Figlia replaced all of the heating/cooling in my apartment. They came several times in advance to take pictures and measurements to be sure that everything was in order and coordinate with renovations happening at the same time. They were able to troubleshoot a specific issue that made replacing one of the units particularly difficult. They also advised how to best maximize air flow and efficiency by making modest adjustments to the construction of the radiator covers. They are consummate professionals. I highly recommend.
good experience with responsiveness. very bad experience with the quality of the PTACs: both new and both have failed first year or working!
I have used Figilia and Sons for both A/C cleaning and heating issues. They have always been professional and fair with maintenance problems. Teddy in the service department was very helpful.
One word. Amazing . Both my Hvac unit needed to be fixed and they gave me a great deal on two new unit. My penthouse will be nice and cool this summer.
It is the worst service you can get. Please do not waste your money. I will make sure my neighbors know about it and I will send an official complaint to the management company for recommending it to us.
This is the most outstanding company and their employees are well trained, kind and most considerate. I have been using Figlia & Sons
for years for repair and replacement of my in-wall units. Their Simon Air units are very effective and quiet. I would suggest that you do not
try and be cheap about maintaining these units. Spend the $80 per
unit and have them cleaned and maintained annually and your unit will give you years of service.
I was planning to upgrade my PTAC units and was looking for a go-to company but I need to look elsewhere. I scheduled a service visit because I wanted qualified technicians to come and check my 2 PTAC units to make sure they are working properly a few months ago. The technicians came, took off the front cover and said that one unit is working fine and one requires new parts. There would be nothing wrong with that if it was not for the fact that taking off the front cover only exposes the unit inside. Nothing is visible to accurately determine condition of the units. The unit they determined works fine is not working fine and when I called the company, a very rude lady was asking me in if I am an expert on PTAC units. Clearly, I am not, otherwise I would not call the experts but it does not take a lot of figuring out to determine whether the unit is in working condition and I do not need to be an expert to know that you need to see inside the unit to check it properly. I was told that I would get a refund or at least partial credit but nobody has made an effort to resolve the issue in the past 3 months.
If you want great service and knowledgeable staff, choose figlia. If there is ever a problem, senior management reaches out to me for solutions.
Most fast and effective service in NYC tbh . Thanks for keeping me cool guys two thumbs up !
Figlia and Sons found a way to fix my AC unit in my home for half of what another business had wanted. I am sure they could have made more money by taking the unit and replacing the part, but they repaired it instead, in my home, saving my a lot of money and hassle. I will not hesitate to use them again.
I recently had them install a living room unit for me. Machine is very quiet and works great. Would highly recommend.
We've been doing business with Figlia & Sons for several years and we have stellar reviews! They are professional, honest, timely and always neat! We recommend them very highly! Thank you Figlia!
Very reliable when I call them for a delivery, and usually on time. Their techs very knowledgeable
Trustworthy and reliable. Excellent service - fair sales.
I purchased an expensive unit that was supposed to be quiet, however it was not. I complained and they sent some one who said it was perfect. When my friend who had recommended them came over, she asked why my unit made so much noise! It was never resolved and I will have to find some one else in the future.
I hired Figlia to replace 2 living room A/Cs last week. They were the only company who had the units in stock and could deliver in two days. I recommend Figlia because they were equipped to handle the heat wave.
The worst service i've ever had in relation to any service I've solicited for my apartment. After making me wait 3 days for them to come pick my son's unit up, they then tell me they will have it ready by Mon. They actually bring it on Wednesday and three hours after installing it the a/c breaks down. It's July and I don't have the time or the patience to wait 9 days for them to come fix my A/C. I've never written a negative comment about anyone but felt compelled to let people now so that they don't have to go through the same experience I just went through
They were incredible. They did a great installation. They did not leave a mess. And the installers were not happy to leave one air conditioner without a brace, so they came back the next day. They were a pleasure to work with from start to finish.
I've been using Figlia and Sons forever. As a Resident Manager, they're always there to help me out whenever I'm in a jam, and have many times. George, Robert and the whole team are great.
Great costumer service have, company run by great hard working family, definitely get in touch if you re in the market for an A/C
Good people run the business. I ve known them personally for decades so I know they are of good character. This is the place you want to go to if you re in the market for A/C.
They came quickly when my AC unit went out during the height of the summer heat. They would have had 5 stars if they had managed to get me the metal grills I needed to replace on my aging unit covers.
Shockingly overpriced. Wanted to charge me $450 per unit to remove and re-install units when I moved within the same building. Cost $600 new, installed. Also canceled on me twice during a repair in the summer, but did ultimately give me a break on price for the nuisance.
Our existing A/C was dripping over the entrance to our Manhattan building. I researched and would have purchased a newer A/C with the same power that purported to be drip-free. A Figlia serviceman recommended a more highly-powered A/C, stating that although the existing A/C had adequate power per specs, it was being over-worked. Figlia located and installed the new A/C, and the dripping has stopped. Though they were not cheap, the work was done quickly, and cleanly, and, most important, it worked.
I've dealt with other A/C companies and Figlia and sons always seems painless. I can always reach someone in the office and they never leave a question un-answered. Nice to know I can rely on them during the blazing hot summer days. I would recommend them to all my friends.
cheaters. bait and switch and held us in a corner with no options.
You did the same thing to me in regards to scheduling as you did to the previous poster.
If you are going to give people a 9-4 time window- you can t call the day before and reschedule. You just cant.
Horrible customer service.
Be prepared to have 2 or 3 visits, because the first tech to come, will make up an excuse, tighten 2 screws and leave. And you'll have to call back for another visit or 2. (each a full week apart)
wonderful service, dependable, and did a safe great job reinstalling A/C with good suggestions on changes to installation.
They are horrible for the services and the products. I just ordered a brand new air conditioner and when the day it was arrived, it was not working at all. So I asked for changing to a new one the next day. And it was still not working right after it replaced. Then, I tried to call the company to solve the problem, they just kept me on hold and never gave me a result. I spent almost a month rental for the AC, that was the service that they were giving. I am really upset with this company. Never use it again.
They did excellent work on our HVACs, in a timely manner and their charges were reasonable.
I recently bought one Simon-aire AC and had two of my older machines repaired by FIGLIA. The new machine was surprisingly quiet and the installation was quick with no mess. The repaired machines worked good as new! Very impressed- would definitely recommend.
Twenty years ago I bought two units. One failed almost immediately. The head of the company came to repair it himself. When it came time to replace them recently, I wondered if things might have changed. So many places are not the same. I needn't have worried. It was like revisiting an old friend. Delivery and installation was prompt, service is in-house as opposed to their competitors and I will call them again - in twenty years. Cannot say enough about Figlia & Sons.
Figlia and sons were wonderful to deal with from the start
Abdul and Lorenzo were very knowledgeable , efficient and neat
The air conditioner they installed works beautifully and I m very happy with their total service
I have used Figlia for many years, and they have always been fair and honest. Recently I got a price quote from "Maximum Cooling" to fix the HVAC unit in my apartment and was told that the unit needed major repairs, and that it would cost in excess of $1,700.00!!
I then asked Brian at "Figlia" to send over his guy to repair the unit, and he had it fixed, on the spot, for around $400.00!!! That's $1,300.00 less then the crooks at Maximum Cooling.
Figlia has been around for more than 50 years. There's a reason for this.
I warn you not to use this company. They are dishonest. Buyer beware.
There current product line (Simon-Aire) are McQuay copies manufactured in China and absolutely substandard. I purchased a 16,500 BTU unit and the compressor fan failed after 4 years (after warranty expired). Last year I purchased a 9,000 BTU unit and it did not work properly and was shockingly noisy. I asked them to return my unit if they could not provide an adequate unit. The owner came and attempted to bully my wife and infer that we were crazy. When I told them to replace my unit they installed an incompatible unit with my heating system that I just recently discovered was the case when the first unit failed. They are recommended by my "A" midtown building and are clearly paying off management to get favored status.
First appointment they never showed up, they claimed they didn't have it on file.
Second appt, they showd up late and outside the scheduled window of time.
They also charged me twice for the appt. I had to call twice in order to get them to refund the charge.
Absolutely atrocious service!!
We were planning to upgrade two PTAC units and our building recommended Figlia & Sons for the 'special service' and 'special price' they were supposedly offering based on the relationship that was built over years.
After a quick call to Figlia and Sons, I paid $200 before hand (SPECIAL price) to get two units checked.
The technicians came in to the apartment, took off the front cover, knocked a couple times here and there, and said that all is good with one unit, and one might have some issues and would need new parts.
It is very interesting, as you can't really tell much just by looking at the metal cover they looked over. The supposedly working well unit does not really work well. I tried explaining that it is not working properly, provided details of when it fails to cool/warm, but was told that 'nah, all is good'. Two gentlemen left within 10 minutes of coming in. That cost $200. For 10 minutes and not doing anything. Not bad!
I called the company to discuss the issue I had with this 'visit', and a very rude woman starting yelling at me telling me I am not trained in these units so I wouldn't know any better than the experts that came in. They offered some kind of refund and told me that they would follow up but no one every did. It's been a few months at this point.
This is truly disappointing that we found absolutely nothing regarding the unit in here, were treated very badly by the person on the phone, and never received any refund.
I will spread the word in the building where I live about the service I received. I will share that in several other buildings where I have friends. I do not wish anyone to be treated like this.
I have used Figlia for many years and have always been treated well. I recently had a unit taken to their shop for repair and it was returned two days later looking like new!
My experience with Figlia and Sons has always been a positive one. They are professional, knowledgeable and are always there to answer any questions and inquiries you may have.
Recently had them replace my old unit with theirs. It works great and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend.
I called Figlia & Sons for a Hvac service appointment on a Wednesday morning, the gentleman that was helping me set up my appointment (Let's call him Bob) Our appointment was set up for the Friday.
On that Friday morning, I called to ask when the technician was coming, the person on the other line said my appointment was moved to Monday. I asked why this was the case, and they had no idea, until they put my in contact with Bob (since he was the one who made my appointment) Bob then tells me my appointment was moved to Monday and there was nothing he could do. I asked why I was not informed of this since I was confirmed for Friday. He then says "I forgot". This is the type of professionalism that they attribute to. I asked to speak to the manager to have this problem resolved.
The manager then takes 2 hours to take my call and said he would send someone on Saturday to fix it. I thought all is well, they will come fix it on Saturday. One minute after we hangup the phone, Bob calls me to ask if I was scheduling a service appointment, I said yes. Bob then tells me then they can't come on Saturday and has to come on Monday. I asked to speak to the manager and the manager deliberately cusses me out and basically told me to f off and proceeds to hangup on me.
This is the type of service they provided. Don't fall for it. They are extremely unprofessional and do not understand the basic fundamentals of running a business. Plus they also rip you off.
Hildy, their salesman, is honest and fair. I would definitely recommend him and Figlia for thru the wall a/c units.
Very happy with the service by Figlia & Sons Inc. Especially thankful to my friend Chris Bokszczanin who's always available and extremely helpful when needed.
Good and reliable company.
They are always helpful.
Great experience with this company. Called numerous places to get someone out the same day because of a totally broken AC on the hottest day of the year. Zack was able to not only accommodate me, but quickly diagnosed the problem and then came back first thing the next morning to replace the system. Highly recommend this company.
THE WORST company. First of all, they charge you a flat rate of $150 just to look at your unit. Since the techs said I needed to replace the entire unit, I was directed to call the office. They said they'd call me back. NEVER DID. I can go on and on, about their poor ethics. They also have the worst customer service possible, their boss "Brian" is a dipshit with the worst attitude. DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICES!
Figlia & Sons replaced a PTAC. They did it in a very timely fashion which was important in a heat wave; their price was very fair. After a misunderstanding about the credit card fee, they were very understanding and proactive to make it right. Definitely would use them again and again
I don't usually write reviews, but wanted to share some thoughts about Figlia & Sons. I had some issues with my bedroom a/c unit for a while, and of course it broke completely with 90' outside. I was expecting an uphill battle getting it fixed in the middle of Summer but after a few calls and promises of "maybe next Friday", I came across Figlia. They were quick and efficient, I had a technician come to my apartment the next day to take a look, and I got a quote for repairs soon after. The technician came back with parts and my a/c was fixed. I could not be happier - I highly recommend this company!
Good service but I don't love the equipment. The (rather expensive) ACs which I purchased are so much noisier than the old very quiet ones. Maybe my fault for not having researched the equioment more.
