This already bold reinvigoration of a c17 coffee house in the form of Cultuurcentrum Felix was all set to open with great fanfare in the spring of 2020. Now instead, a few weeks into the easing of covid restrictions, the restaurant is open - and has temporarily taken over the main exhibition space in the absence of large functions in order to offer a truly '360' experience - the projection and music alone of which would merit a long pause in an art gallery.
Now is the time to visit. In future, proper critics will rate this immersive, audio-visual-gustatory experience better than I can. Unpretentious due to its young but highly informed staff, it is in every way flawlessly choreographed, and left my jaw on the floor. Maybe it was beacause I was reading Oliver Sacks' 'The River of Consciousness' chapter on crabs while I was here, but the atmospheric transitions between courses (I have never seen a wine glass make a yellow shadow on a table cloth before) were mesmerising. Talk about adaptive use of space and symphonic pairings all you like - there is something about this that cuts through. Experience it while you can - it will likely be recontained to the restaurant by the end of August.

Chef Floris and team serve an amazingly creative and delightful gourmet meal. The cadre is surprising in a beautiful Amsterdam canal setting. Service is pleasant and personal. Highly recommended

A beautiful historical building where I attended the annual DMWF (Digital marketing world forum) conference. High ceilings, large windows and multiple rooms that were tastefully decorated for the conference! Only downside is with an old building - there are no elevators. The cafe on ground floor had great coffee, with outdoor seating overlooking the canal.
