Ordered a calzone, burger, fries and Mac and cheese. The only thing that arrived was the calzone and it took the waitress about 10 minutes to realize that; she never even noticed we were having to share the silverware to share the only food that was actually delivered. I went to ask for a box and that was not brought to us so we picked one up off the counter ourselves, then I had to walk up and ask for the check to which we were informed only the calzone and coke are on there, sorry about the rest. Um, I would hope that that s all that was charged as that is all you brought us. Typically you receive discounts for abysmal service and messed up orders. But thank you for only charging for the food we received.....

Awesome daily beer specials and very solid brisket. They serve everything on butcher table and definitely care about quality. The fries are also great, order a large order and they bring enough to share for 2-3.
Anyone giving this place less than 5 stars should have their opinion discarded because they obviously know nothing about good food. Fat Dan's is god tier. Everything on the menu is fantastic. You'll be pleased with anything. Special shout out to their smoked wings. Best in town. Love the staff. There's a reason I go here at least once a month.
We ordered the full rack of ribs and a sandwhich. The ribs were tender but were slightly dry and tough, not worth the price.The sandwhich was good but not great, still worth the price though. One thing that will keep us from returning were the flies. Normally I do not mind them at smokehouses or outdoor restaurants but one of them landed in our beer and instead of giving us a new one the waiter said, "more protein for you." I told him it was disgusting but he did nothing about it.
A really good and fairly unconventional restaurant. Wings are so far my favorite in town. The hamburger that I had was unexpectedly massive. I would will go back often
You've got to go on Wednesday! They have the best slow smoked meatloaf. This is no ordinary dish. It's a big loaf, full of flavor. They wrap it in thick cut bacon and smoke it the day before. It's only available on Wednesday until it's gone. They slice it thick, throw it on the griddle, and pile it on a bun. Come hungry and order a fresh cold one on tap. Best lunch ever. If you can't make it Wednesday, try the sausages or the Ruben as a great substitute.
The food is perfect, the beer is amazing. Everytime I go I get something different and it's always above and beyond. Go in, sit down, and order anything on the menu and you'll leave satisfied, full, and on your way to being fatter than when you went in.
I called ahead and placed an order. They accidentally gave my order to somebody else but told me it would be 5 minutes and they would have it ready. After looking around, the table spacing and masks being worn by all of the staff made me comfortable enough to eat there. The food was good, the service was great, and the beer was cold. I definitely feel comfortable enough to eat there in these difficult times. Oh, and the portion sizes are generous.
No one waited on me...until after i was skipped over by the hostes and the waitress who both worked 8/8/17 at1145 am ... I finally said something because i only had an hour for lunch...bad service
Dan, I have been eating here for over a year and until I went yesterday I always loved it. I have told tons of people to try it and I went almost every week for months. I have not been in about 2 months and it seams all your good wait staff is gone. I sat at the bar and it was about 3/4 full and no one took our order till we waived a passing bar tender down. Then our drinks never got refilled unless we asked and the two bartenders just looked pissed off the hole time we sat there. Then we had to wave them down again just to pay our bill (they seemed more focused on the tv then their jobs). Dan please fix this I love your restaurants.
Great vibe there, there brisket sandwich was to die for !! Both male servers that we encountered were so helpful & kind.. will absolutely be back soon.
Had the corned beef and pastrami sandwich. Big portion but driest corned beef/pastrami I've ever eaten. Not good at all!! Bartender spent more time playing on her phone than taking care of customers. A "thank you" would have been nice after I paid. Much better places to eat/better service in the area.
Love the atmosphere. It is a restaurant that should be a couple blocks from a sports stadium. Could use some cleaning of the heating ducts in the ceiling. The Cubano sandwich was good but I felt the ham was a little bit salty for the sandwich. The hamburgers are large. The buns would benefit from time on the grill or flattop as it didn't hold up to the size of the burger. Server suggested the burger cooked medium well (?). We ordered it medium and it came out medium well. Not sure why they ask. Flavor of the pastrami on the burger was very good.
Great smoked wings...we are not easily impressed and this is our new spot for wings! Tender and juicy with great flavor...we ate them without sauce! So delicious!!
The portion of corned beef and cabbage I was served was disappointingly small. $11 for 4 oz of meat and a quarter cup of cabbage. The server was inexperienced at best and didn't asked me if I was satisfied. I'm leaving hungry.
Overpriced, greasy and recooked fries. Who overcooks a corndog? $32. for a small pastrami sandwich, a corndog and sub sandwich with a bag full of reheated fries.

Stopped mid road trip from NYC to Chicago. Great but simple beer and an awesome sandwich menu. Wings are excellent, but not buffalo style. The fries are made from actual potatoes and are awesome. Can't wait to stop here on the way back!
Really like walking down the street to Fat Dan's for a burger or brisket. Whenever I have friends in town, especially in the summer, there is nothing like sharing a few cold ones and a big pile of fries on their open patio.
I thought it was over priced. My wife and I ordered two of the Miss U So Hot Piggy. They were good, but for almost 10.00 I would expected this thing to be stacked with meat and etc. The bread was about the size of an ordinary piece you would buy at the store and very moderate on the toppings with the ham. Maybe worth 6.00 or 7.00 at the most. The fries were nothing to write home about. They were warm at best and starting to get soggy . Our girls got the chix nuggets , they seemed to be over cooked, maybe burnt and very dry, not moist at all. My son got a hamburger and that was pretty good. We were not there at an off hour, , Saturday night around 8:30. The meal was 70.00 bucks. I thought that was an awful pricey for what we got and for that type of food. I normally don't complain, but not sure I would go back and get a ham sandwich for 10.00 again.
Awesome food. Prepare for a food coma after. Warning: an order of fries is huge. I would recommend 1 order of fries for 2-3 people. 2 orders of fries for 4-6 people.
Fantastic fresh food. We came for a doctor's appointment at Riley's. Great way to finish day day and the kids could get a hotdog. We got house smoked BLT and Italian beef with loaded tots. Delish
I've attempted to contact Fat Dan's discretely via the online form on the website as well the Mass Ave Facebook page through messenger; both attempts were timestamped @4:30p on 8/24 & 9/1 @5:30p. My FB message was marked as read & nearly 1 month later I am sad to say that my feedback & comments were both disregarded. My feedback is paraphrased as follows:
"Hi there, I visited Fat Dan's in Broad Ripple Friday 8/2/19 & I wanted to share feedback from my visit. I've been looking forward to visit for a over one year now.
Closing time was 11p & I called around 10:40 to place a carryout order but the person who answered the phone responded that phone orders stop at 10:30 but as long as I walk in the door by 11 my order can be taken.
I arrived around 10:55p and the guy at the counter told me they are getting ready to close. I replied that I just got off the phone and was told that as long as I walked in by 11, my order would be taken; he asked me who it was that I talked to; I wasn't able to answer this as they didn't state their name when answering the phone.
He returned to the counter, not too enthused, and began to take my order. $44 and 10 minutes later my order was ready. Tipping for carry-out orders has always been a very debatable topic but considering my "inconvenience" I gave an extra few bucks for my 10 minute visit. I said thank you, grabbed my bags & departed. All he said was "there you go." No smile, no "thank you," no "have a good one."
After months of anticipation, I took a bite of a chicken wing as soon as I sat in my car. The flavor was just okay; it resembled more of a BBQ grilled over charcoal vs. smoker cooked.
My Wells St. Burger had good beef texture, cooked to the proper temperature & tender however; someone had completely disregarded seasoning the beef. No flavor besides the toppings that came on the burger.
The brisket was like eating leather: dry with unpleasant mouthfeel. I spat it out & threw out the rest.
The pastrami/corned beef sandwich was just another bust: dry, small, bland & unseasoned.
I don't know if it's because I came in right before close or if they had a bad day but my 1st visit to Fat Dan's was truly a huge disappointment, especially since I've been wanting to come here for years.
I wouldn't have gone there before close if the guy on the phone had told me otherwise but he said as long as I walk in before close I would be taken care of.
But I'd like to know if anything can be done. I basically spent $44 on food that was pretty much inedible. What options do I have ? I have the receipt if needed (Trans #00563338 on 8/2/19 @11:00:25pm /// Total: $44.36). I need someone to get back to me as soon as possible please, thank you."
Love the atmosphere, staff is friendly, food is delicious. Sometimes, the little "dives", are the biggest surprises. Fat Dan's is the BIGGEST surprise!
Fantastic drink menu and yummy food selections. Good size portions and happy atmosphere. Strongly recommend a meal and conversation with family or friends here.
Love this place! Food is amazing, great atmosphere, and the servers/bartenders are professional but fun and happy.
Only reason I am giving 4 stars is that they only stay open until 10p during the week even if there is a Cubs game on! Also, an all draft pint night special would be nice during the workweek too.
Please, go visits Fat Dans as it is truly a taste of Chicago!
Awesome wings and good selection of craft beer. Their fries are fresh, not the frozen kind. Love the low key , no frills atmosphere. Great burgers too.
My husband and I were looking for a new place to try that had wings. I will say we have lived in Indy our whole lives and have tried many places that claim to have the best wings around. Fat Dan's slow smoked wings are by far the best wings that we have had. The best way to describe them is a nice crispy outside with an amazing tender inside, full of flavor. The dirty tots are also amazing (messy). The Customer Service was spot on. This is hands down our new favorite wing joint. Can't wait to go back!
My friend Mike Rohn told me to go here. Told me Dan sings for a band called ra ra riot, a song called 'water'. When our food arrived it was excellent,,,,Dan actually came out & sang for us....what a splendid evening .
The wings here are some of the best in Indy! Amazing beers on tap always. The burgers are great, too. Service is always fast and friendly. They typically have live music on the weekends and the windows open. Very cool hangout spot!
This may be my favorite place in the city to grab a beer and a bite to eat. There s always a great rotational draft list, a wide varying menu and great staff. Decor is garage, industrial which is leads to laid back and community based atmosphere. Another plus is the patio is dog friendly which is a big plus in this neighborhood.
Update on incredible service and food, came in tonight, 1 July 2020, ordered Gobble Gobble (Turkey Burger), fries and couple of rotational drafts, once again they hit it out of the park.
Food arrives quickly, hot, prepared correctly and staff knows when to ask if all is well.
They keep reaffirming why thus is my favorite place.
My 2nd favorite wings in all of Indy! Phenomenal outdoor seating. So many other options on the menu I ve been dying to try. Solid beer list. The place to go for Chicago Cubs or Bears games. Have also been there when they have music. Would highly recommend.
Im from out of town. Heard of this place from a local, and I wasn't disappointed! Amazing Italian sub, just the right amount of heat to spice it up. Their fries definitely live up to the claim "best in the universe". The homemade potato chips they mix in are the best part. Not a Cubs fan, but the place had a great easygoing feel to it. Dart boards, shuffle board, TV's. Over a dozen beers on tap. What's not to love? Service was very prompt and friendly.
Food was good, but service was awful. If it's 3/4 full, make sure to go in with no expectations. Food was delivered as 3 of 5 drinks were empty, but the server left before we were able to ask for more. Asked another server towards the end and still never received the refills. Our original server took a smoke break before returning, by which point we were ready to leave. Ended up being charged double and had to get them removed from each person's tab.
First, this ain t Chicago style. Italian beef was WEAK! Dirty tables and bathroom. Food was not good, just greasy. Service was horrible. We waited 30 minutes for our food after we ordered and then had to hunt the waiter down for more drinks which took forever. They weren t even busy. Do not waste your time.
CARMEL LOCATION -- Fat Dan's has become one of our favorite places to eat. There is so much on the menu I want to try, but I keep getting the smoked jumbo chicken wings. They are SO GOOD. They don't need sauce. Their fries and tater tots are fried in beef fat as God intended. I love them. I have also tried the pork (from my husband's order) and it is easily some of the best I've ever had. Last night, i got the brisket -- it was delicious. Are you keto? Low carb? You can get a side of bacon with your chicken wings. I still have a lot to try from the extensive menu, which includes many smoke meats, (my hubby liked the meatloaf), Chicago dogs, burgers, Italian beef, and brick oven pizzas. Not only is the food great, but the service is fast and friendly. Part of me wants to keep the secret all to myself, but that wouldn't be fair.
I love the sandwiches here very tasty and good quality bread and sauces, honestly, this is the place I go to when I want to cheat on my diet, because if I'm going to cheat it's gonna be on food that's worth cheating for and Fat Dan's is worth every bite.
I love this place! I go here every weekend. I usually order the reuben but I've never ordered anything I didn't like. This is my favorite restaurant--best restaurant in Indianapolis for sure!!
The brisket! The fries! The burgers! I don't even know what to recommend. This place is an awesome place to watch one of the blacked out (NBC) Cubs games (unless there is a Pacers playoff game at the same time - then you have to throw a fit to get it on a tv). Love this place.
