Exodus gym is great! The equipment is modern and up to date and the group fitness classes are fantastic. there is a huge range of these and the instructors are knowledgeable and very motivational. Like most people, i used to struggle to get the motivation up to get to the gym regularly but with the group fitness classes there is a real sense of camaraderie and I look forward to going now and am disappointed if I miss a day!

At first glance Exodus seems like a decent gym, good equipment, fake-smiling receptionists and bass pounding music.
BE WARNED.
It is so hard to get out of a contract with this gym!
Even if you are paying a large cancellation fee, they still take their sweet-as time doing everything for you.

However they make it v difficult to cancel membership with roll over contracts etc.

Without a doubt the worst gym I have ever had the displeasure of setting foot in. Astronomical prices coupled with self-absorbed staff and clientele made using their gym feel unfriendly, inferior and overall not very fun. Would not recommend.

A mid sized gym with a lot of other facilities and friendly staff. Unfortunately the air conditioning is in poor condition and the roof leaks like a sieve, making working out just that much more challenging at the moment.

I have loved my Exodus experience. Firstly, I signed up with a membership that has allowed me no minimum joining period. This has given me the freedom to end my membership now that I am leaving Wellington. While I was travelling mid-year they put my membership on hold for the dates I requested. Everything in my contract was clearly explained when I signed up which has made admin painless. Secondly, the gym experience has been awesome. My favourite classes are spin, pilates and yoga. All three classes feature often on the weekly timetable and have really knowledgable and encouraging teachers. To my delight, spin is included in membership fee so no extra costs and all equipment is provided in the yoga studio. After coming back from my travels I decided to have a programme done for using the cardio and weights equipment (which I usually find really boring.) The staff took on board my concerns for what I wanted to get out of the training process and how much time I was realisticly willing to put in. Surprisingly the independent programme I was following on the equipment wasn't boring and the cardio machines have a range of sky channels on their individual screens which kept me entertained. Thirdly, the staff and facilities have all been impressive. I regularly book in for spin and the reception staff all know who I am without me having to spell out my full name. Whenever I have forgotten my towel they hand me a fresh one to borrow, no worries. When I had my mum staying with me over a weekend, she was welcomed to come to a complimentry yoga class with me. The sauna and the steam room are all included in membership and are a real treat. I've never had to wait for a shower. To summarise: a fun and positive experience.

Exodus health fitness had recently had upgraded to a newer bathroom, added latest NEW brand new equipments. The additional bonus of the 90minutes free parking marks it the best value facility in Wellington.

Very friendly staff and big gym compared to many other here. Sure, it cost more but you get lockable lockers, sauna and much more. I can highly recommend it and talk to james the membership consultant (great guy!)

Overall excellent balance between an affordable and accessible gym.
It does get busy at peak times but the gym itself is huge and I've never really struggled to get the machine and equipment I needed.
They were also able to give me a good deal when I enquired about membership.
You can get contract and Contract-less deals also.

Not cheap, but good equipment, services and staff. E.g you will always get a locker and you don't need your own lock. Lots of classes, lots of squat wracks. Not 24 hours tho. The only gripe I have is the roof is a little leaky when it rains and could improve on cleanliness.

I have been a member at Exodus for 18 months now and I love it. It's a great gym with well maintained equipment, lots of space and nice, clean changing rooms and friendly staff. They offer a great variety of group fitness classes with some absolutely amazing instructors! Trish and Meghan are fantastic! The gym can get busy at rush hour, but I usually just try to work out either earlier or later. And they have very long opening hours!
The management is also very approachable to any complaints or requests and they are working really hard to keep their members happy.

Been a member around a year now. Pretty good gym - lots of free weights. Typically divided in to cardiovascular downstairs and weightlifting upstairs (or women/men if you will). Changing-room facilities are nice, with sauna and showers. Staff are friendly too. The only grievance I have is air-con can sometimes be lacking. Perhaps avoid Monday during rush hour also, as you'll find yourself a cramped experience

I joined Exodus gym a few months ago. Staff are friendly and professional. It's not an intimidating gym and there are great classes to build muscle and give you an excellent work out (prepare to work hard).
I haven't used the extensive gym equipment upstairs yet, only because I have enjoyed the classes so much.
Nice clean facilities, with the bonus of a steam room and sauna.
Parking is never a problem either (if you are travelling by car).
Big thumbs up from me!

Great equipment and facilities, friendly staff, plenty of space in the gym, clean and good ambiance. It's great to have $2 towels for rent when you forget yours.
Some improvements: a tap and go membership card (for easy entry and locker access), more time for parking (90+ minutes), a bigger sauna, 24/7 access option

Buyer beware! Being new to Wellington I wanted to try a few different gyms out before settling down. Having read online that it was damn near impossible to get out of a recurring contract at Exodus (even if you followed their rules), I decided to sign up for a single month, one-time payment. I intentionally made this very, explicitly, clear to the membership adviser I met with. However, I have continued to be charged for a monthly membership fee after the single month I gave consent to. Apparently, written in the contract (and not verbally explained to me when I signed it), is the stipulation that in order to get out of a minimum one month contract, a minimum of one month's notice must be given. In other words, when you sign up for a trial month you must also give your one months notice at the same time. Silly me- I should have read the fine print a bit closer. Fine. But it's hard to not believe that the contract was intentionally written to deceive, and left me with a sour taste in my mouth. The gym itself? The facilities are fine, but classes are uninspired/basic - no routine you couldn't have worked out on your own. Even if I had been blown away by what the gym had to offer I wouldn't be returning after this experience (but would probably still be paying monthly fees anyway).

Generally a good, affordable gym. I didn't get any orientation when i started, but the other members were helpful and welcoming, so not really a problem. There are some quirks, such as infrequent cleaning in the bathrooms, and a lack of space in the weight room and sauna (seats 3 people only). Nevertheless staff are friendly, there are plenty of showers, location is central, free parking, and the price is right. If you're interested in classes, they are on the back foot with your standard offerings that have been around for 15 years. Classes with functional movements (trx / gymnastics / olympic lifting) or with blending schools of thought don't exist here.

Very unhappy, I gave in essence 3 months notice when I called in December to get my membership cancelled. I was on a 12 month contract so I said I wanted it to end when the time was up. I was assured this would happen, I asked if I need to sign anything or come in as I was moving to Auckland. Nope it would be fine and it was in the system now.
I'm STILL paying and my contract ended a month ago. The first week I figured that was the last payment, the second week I called to be informed I needed to give 1 month notice? Excuse me? I gave you 3! So then I'm told I need to email them the details and they will get back to me in 10 days (in the meanwhile I'm still paying of course) now it's been ten days. This week will be the fourth week I'm still paying for a gym I can't go to. They didn't even know I had moved to Auckland so I might be lenient and assume they had a computer error which didn't update my details.
WILL REMOVE THIS REVIEW IF THEY REFUND THE MONEY YOU THEY ARE STILL TAKING OUT OF MY ACCOUNT AND CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP! Jesus it's not that hard, I've never had an issue before and I'm now utterly disgusted in what I thought was a good gym and only cancelled because of my move!

I have been a member for a year now and can't say a bad word about Exodus. They have a fantastic health club, plenty of equipment, great clean changing room facilities, friendly and knowledgeable staff, I love the group fitness classes. They have everything from spin, boxing, circuit, tabata, yoga and more.....They have the fitlynx system which is fantastic. They are always organising extra fun activities for members and deals around town at other establishments for members. They make you feel like part of the Exodus family every time you step into the place. Keep up the great work Exodus!

I really like this gym. Being going for over a year. Staff are nice, showers clean & it never gets too busy. Also the yoga classes are great! Not sure about the comments about getting out of your contract. My husband gave one months notice and it was done and dusted easily.

I was a member at Exodus for 8 and a bit years, first joining them in 2006. The gym itself is good, the management of the gym however is terrible. It was not until a friend told me that they were on a much cheaper weekly rate than I was that I looked into this. My contract was for 3 years and while it continued on a casual basis for the next FIVE years you would think that you would look after your long-term customers.. obviously there is no care whatsoever. I have paid overpriced weekly payments of $5 more than 'new' customers for the last 2-3 years. Only to be offered the lower weekly plan when I handed my termination letter in.

Exodus is a fabulous gym. It's nice; it's clean; it has all the equipment you'd expect from a premium workout center. The staff is overall friendly and the facilities are up to par. When you go in, you'll get a full tour of the building and all the offerings, then, after you've fallen in love, the salesman (Alex was the guy who sold me) will hit you with the rates. When you're ready to walk out the door because they're so high, they will offer you a 3 year contract with payments that are reasonable.
This is where Exodus goes wrong. It tricks people into signing 3 year contracts to avoid paying ridiculously high rates (for a year long contract) by saying that memberships are easily transferable. Not so. The sales staff will lie and tell you that getting out of a contract can be worked out or easily passed off to another member but this is NOT the case. There are dozens of ads for Exodus memberships on TradeMe that cannot be transferred. The only "help" they offer is paying an incredible fee to escape the terms of your contract ($1000+). If this is what the sales staff meant by "it's no problem" when addressing my initial concerns of how difficult it would be to find someone to transfer to then it's fair to say that, while good at their job, what they are selling is far from the truth. Buyer beware. Maybe it's worth the astronomical weekly price to not be tricked into 3 year marriage with this greedy gym.

They'll rip you off, no matter what. Reception is not well informed, fitness classes are cancelled without previous notice and they won't bother to find a replacement. Oh, and hopefully you like freezing showers, because they're not gonna bother to fix the water temperature if it drops several degrees...
Pilates and steps instructors are great. I hope they are well paid at least.
I had the chance to go to Les Milles for a trial and, damn! It's worth to pay the difference... you'll be paying that difference anyway when you want to get out of Exodus...

Looking through the reviews I can see im not the only one to be tricked into a 3 year contracted! Knowing i could only sign up for 2 years I asked to sign up for "only" 2 years. Once i left the country I believed everything was fine untill I get an email that I own over $1000. Being half way around the world I explained to them I only signed up for 2 years not 3 years, which they completely ignored. I had all ready paid 2 full years with them ! What kind of gym is that horrible to there (previous) paying customers. Now 6 years down the track I have an email from a debt collector with over $2000 owing !! Do not sign up to this gym as they are money hungry pigs looking to fill their pockets!

Very friendly and helpful staff. Great choice of classes and equipment. Changing rooms and sauna great too. Parking is free. Most of the time don't have to wait to use any of the equipment. Able to take breaks in membership without cost.
Improvements I would appreciate in the future are air conditioning. It gets hot at times in summer. More benches in changing rooms would be great.

Low key and focused gym space I can go to during lunchtime to do my thing. Nice staff and members. Good stretch area which is important for a yoga dude. Large monkey gym available if you like to get creative. Good weights area with punch bag. Everything I need.
Update 17/02/2020 I left this gym as I felt it was in decline. I don't think the owners were maintaining or investing in the facility and I no longer felt it represented value for money compared to LM.
