Staff is hit or miss here. Receptionists have very personable phone demeanours but seem totally disorganized and unprepared to answer any detailed questions you may have. Staff will leave voicemails for you but will always be "on the phone" when you call back, even immediately, which may be the difference between securing an interview. The agent I did my pre-screening interview with was great, but I've received vague and muffled sounding voicemails from other agents who can be heard typing, shuffling papers or some other task that conveys a lack of attention. Some of the job requirements to compensation ratio are absurd (ex: Must have advanced security clearance, 5 years industry experience, familiarity with proprietary software ... 3 week contract for minimum wage) Also, why they feel the need to pitch and re-pitch "What Excel can do for you" in conversations with applicants is beyond me and comes across like they aren't completely legit--I applied with you guys, after all.
Definitely seems like type of place where the managers and directors keep piling more and more work onto their subordinates so their metrics keep going up, up, up! The result isn't always "the right person for the right job" but more "any warm body will do" as long as 500 positions get filled by end of week.

Met them twice and they always say im a great fit for these mechanical engineer positions. They never come back to candidates or even responding to my follow up email. It was my bad to share my references with them since they are not serious and they don't appreciate professional time to meet them in-person. The funny thing, i got a job by myself in few weeks after and they are still sending me emails and text messages on phone till now saying that i am a great fit for new positions.
I can't say enough about the staff at excelHR! They take the time to get to know you, are very honest and ethical about your job search and the details of the roles you are presented. I found my first job on a temp contract and eventually this lead to a wonderful permanent role with the federal government. I am very happy with the salary offered and the service.
I worked for excelHR for over 5 years and it was a excellent working environment. If you want to truly feel like you are not only a part of a team but also a family, this is an ideal employer for you. The culture is work hard and play harder. You will receive an incredible amount of support and encouragement from your colleagues and the management team that it is truly hard to fail at this job. Just be sure to bring your strong work ethic and outgoing personality to the table if you get hired!
excelHR services towards their candidates and clients is superb. The account executives and recruitment specialists are experts in finding the perfect match for the job seeker and potential employer. If you are actively looking or passively open to hearing about candidates or jobs, call excelHR to assist you with your search. You won't be disappointed.
After applying to a few job postings on their website, I was asked to come in for an interview and to complete various online assessments. I had done everything I was asked to do, while continuing to apply and I still have yet to hear of any other opportunities or any feedback in regards to my previous applications. I was told at the interview that they would keep in touch with me as long as they saw me actively applying - which I have been, yet there has been no communication. I mentioned during my interview that at the very least I would accept 3 month term positions. The one and only phone call I received from excel was for a position that would only be for 2 weeks. The phone call was from someone else in excel that I didn't meet with, who obviously didn't know what I was looking for. I'm sure everyone's experience with excel varies depending on their background and career goals/lifestyle, but as a recent university graduate trying to get her foot in the door, I wouldn't say this is the most professional HR firm that will guarantee results.
Great team! Highly professional and efficient. They did the best to give me all the tools and advice that I needed to transition into a job that I was passionate about. I would highly recommend them anytime. Special thanks to Barbara and Lindsay. They are true pros at what they do.
The positive side of this agency is the fact that they'll get you a contract for sure. The downside of it is they will lowball you, you'll have to negotiate real hard to get equal pay for equal work. Their philosophy is based on making as much off of you as possible. Make sure you compare before accepting the low wage they are offering. They will use every tactics to make you believe they are doing you a favor. Actually, without you there, they won't make any money. Keep in mind that they are sales people and they want to make as much as possible on every sale they make. Make sure you put your eggs in more than 1 basket.
Setting up an account was easy and I've found the reps are accessible. It's important to ask questions, but when you do, they work very hard to find out the answer for you if they don't already know. I've found they'll also fight for a better wage for you and try to pair you up with longer term contracts if they can. Definitely one of the better contracting companies in Canada.
Excel has always provided me with a great experience. They do the right testing and make sure both the client as a person or a business gets the right fit. I had the pleasure of working with Michelle and Brittney and they were both very helpful in my job search and kept me informed throughout the process of interviewing and with their service offering as well as keeping me in mind for other opportunities in between.
I also listed with another agency and have yet to receive a call from them despite having credentials for many jobs they offer and after reaching out to them for offers they had in their repository. This is not the case for me with Excel.
I would highly recommend their services as well as recommend to individuals to be sure to get your resume up to par and fill in holes in your experiences with learning or volunteering. And seek out professional help to put your best self forward in the resume writing and interview stage. It will give you the best chance of finding the right match. It also means you can t put the complete responsibility on the recruiter, they aren t miracle workers. You must also put in a solid effort to stand out. Best of luck!!!!
It's the worst experience so far. They took my interview and ask me about my interest and skills and after that they told me recruiter will contact you .Last three months I have haven't heard back and left them voicemail and email they ignored me .Totally unprofessional agency so far would not recommend to anyone
Excel HR was super helpful. They placed me in a relevant field as soon as I graduated from my bachelor's. The process was quick and easy. I would say it's the perfect place if you're looking for temporary work!
Applied more then 10 jobs I was fullied qualified for. Being bilingual, college education and 5 years or retail and construction experience to getter, you would think I would get a call from one of them but no! I called them to inform them that I was sending my resume for specific positions that I was qualified for and finally spoke to one of their agents. Was ask a few questions and was told I would get a call back. I never did get anything from them. Went to another agency and was hired within hours! Basically it's like sending your resume to a shredding machine.
Poor performance Lengthy wait times from the time you sign up and submit your resume until you receive a phone call or interview, it has been two weeks now and nothing yet!
I received a great service from ExcelHR.They interviewed me, assessed my skills and matched me with a great opportunity. Their staff were avaliable to help me and answer questions.
I had a great experience with Excel RH from the start. It's a very large agency, with good operating procedures and friendly consultants. Special thanks to Coleen, Natasha and Jessica, they have been wonderful so far. Also, it's always a pleasure to call the office, as the receptionist is very friendly and helpful. Edit : As a response to some of the negative reviews. They are doing their best to place the right candidates for the right position. It's unfortunate, but they can't guarantee a placement. When it comes to jobs, luck and first impressions count for a lot. So don't take it personal, stay positive and keep moving forward.
Trash. Will not respond to emails, will not respond to contractual issues and plainly rip you off and don't explain details about any benefits. Keep that in mind when working for these people. They will happily accept the labour and won't honour any promises, even contract stipulations.
Amazing recruitment company, they found me exactly the job i was looking for, extremely professional and respond in a timely manner, highly recommended.
If you re English speaking only you won t find many contracts. I worked with them for two months and was only contacted 3-4 times for a contract and ended up not getting them. I did one interview. Even though I mentioned I was interested in government work I was never offered anything government related. Once a month passes you don t get any more phone calls. Pleasant people but they don t come through.
I was placed by excelHR in my current role and I was really impressed with their level of professionalism. Their friendly staff (Colin and Ntasha) were available to provide support at every stage of the process including follow-up review after I had started the job.
Professional and personable staff who celebrate your success! Since I dropped off a resume at a job fair two weeks ago with not much employment success until that point, I have now been placed. I look forward to working further with the amazing people at ExcelHR!
Worst Agency. Started off good. But then waited two months and heard nothing. So I decided to send an email to find out what was going on. It took two weeks and 3 emails later for someone to respond to me. When I received that email I was told their were no jobs for me at the moment because I was not skilled or experienced enough for anything even though I found a job without them. 4 months later and I still have not heard anything. Unprofessional and a waste of my time. I would never recommend this agency. I had to put the one star I would never give it.
Very professional placement agency, very agile on finding new oppertunities as they come out, wins many bids as they are very competitive, however strong negotiations skills needed if you want to get a good rate as a senior resource. The short of it, they are there to win, and will always treat consultants well, but you have to know the value of your services to get the rate you want.
Unfortunately I received very poor service. I signed up did all the testing they required then I never heard back. They basically provided no service at all. I would strongly recommend you search for another service when you are seeking employment. Very dissatisfied. Fortunately I found employment on my own.
They won the 2020 Top Choice Award for their excellence in the pursuit of top customer satisfaction and that equals to hundreds of five stars reviews. Specially during this pandemic they choose to keep leading in their industry by moving forward and apply new strategies to ensure top customer satisfaction. Ex: their new Q&A series with their CEO and cofounder . Cheers to that passion!
The only agency out of many that went above and beyond their role to match me with excellent job opportunities in my time of need. Extremely supportive staff. I will forever be grateful to Excel HR.
A great recruiting company. I got a job by Excel HR about 13 years ago and for the second time they helped me to find another job 3 months ago. Special thanks to Colin Kusz who provided amazing services.
WONDER HOW THEY REMAIN IN BUSINESS!! Having registered with them initially a few years ago, I was always telephoned about being put forward for one job or the other but that was as far as it went as I never hear back again after that. Went on and got myself a job but find myself out of work recently having gone through a restructure at work so, updated my resume on their website and applied for a role which seemed interesting.
I was telephoned and made to come in again to go through the process of more or less re-registering which I thought ok, may lead to something else. They sought new references for me and months later and plenty of initial phone calls, yet nothing!!
I find most recruiters here in Ottawa have little to no experience and so, have no clue as to how to deal with job seekers. They forget that it is not just getting clients, they also need to have a good relationship with job seekers thus ensuring right fit with potential clients.
I called several times to speak to someone about current openings but no one returns the call, not sure how they are always busy. Very bad service and unprofessional, very disappointed.
We were struggling with finding qualified permanent employees to fill various positions within our company. We were referred to the recruiting company of ExcelHR based out of Ottawa Ontario, which proved to be the solution to our dilemma. They assigned us an account executive, Coleen, who left us feeling that she was part of our team. Coleen was able to provide qualified business professionals to fill the positions that we were looking to fill. I highly recommend ExcelHR to any company looking for assistance and direction in filling the recruitment requirements.
Exel HR contacted me for a meeting, while I was on a job search. I went downtown to meet them and wasn't notified in advance the agent I had already spoken with had gone home and a junior associate was taken over the file. The meeting was cut short due to an internal "party" the team was having. I never heard from them again.
Once I had the interviews, all contact has stopped and I have not heard from them in over 2 months regarding any opportunities even though I continue to apply through their website. Terrible service from a terrible company.
While the contract I received from this agency was great they lied about a lot of what I would be doing. It was titled under "Secretarial" yet had absolutely nothing to do with any kind of administration. I was only being paid 14/h when the position said it would be 18/h and there was a lot of issues in the building I was working in that were not mentioned. (Escorted- No electronics- No break from co-workers ect.) I don't suggest going with this agency unless you are fully bilingual because most contracts that require only English will be pushing you far into the west end either way.
I don't know who is valerie she seems to be from agency and messaging in favour of it Soo far you guys suck in your job this agency is worst agency ever i wish it to be sued for such a fake setup. Such an unprofessional staff. So proud, un ethical and moral less approach.
I have had great experience working with ExcelHR and great step by step support from Nicole Preston. During my first days of work, she checked to see if i was comfortable with my work frequently, which made me feel that the company cares about their placement candidates. Furthermore, she has continued to provide clear instructions or updates involving my work placements. In my experience, Nicole Preston is an excellent consultant and has created a positive image of ExcelHR to me. Continue the Hard work Nicole!
I received a great service from Excel HR. Colin and Natasha you guys are great. They have helped me out in my job search and has given me great opportunity. Thank you and keep it up!!
I have been working for ExcelHR for the past five years. They always find me great contracts. Sonia always keeps in touch with me to know how am I doing. The whole staff is always very friendly and helpful. I am very proud to work for ExcelHR. The best agency in the Ottawa Region and highly recommended.
I didn't get a job instantly but you have to follow up with them, be active and let them know you are still looking which is fair. They always respond and follow up which is great. I got a job a month later.
I have been fortunate enough to have the privilege of being both a candidate and an employee of excelHR. As a candidate, I greatly appreciated the consultative guidance and the quick services that I had received from my consultant. I was even called to be considered for a job position within 24 hours of leaving my interview!
As an employee, I truly got to experience first-hand of just how hard-working, professional, knowledgeable, and caring everyone is at excelHR. It has been such a treat to come to an amazing environment full of positive energy every day. I love my colleagues and my job! Best place I have worked at so far! Highly recommend for any jobseekers or employers to engage in excelHR's services!
I stated when applying through them that I wanted to branch out of sales and into Admin type positions. They kept referring me to sales jobs and telemarketing. I went to a different agency. It's obvious they where just trying to fill boots to get paid. Not happy with their service at all.
I wouldn't recommend anybody use this agency. They take massive cuts and if you decline positions they suggest they get upset and stop contacting you. Don't bother wasting your time with them. If you need a job I'd recommend just google searches or linkedin. Hope this helps some of you!
If I could give 0 star I would def do it. Poor management and unprofessional staff. They make you go to their office to waste your time. They take almost 40% of your income and will treat you badly. I DO NOT recommend this agency to anyone
I've been getting contract jobs through Excel for almost two years now. In fact, the 3 positions I've had have all been relevant to my degree. When I graduated university, I contacted them and they placed me immediately in a position that was directly related to my field of study. They're always quick to place me whenever I come back from a trip. Ellie and the girls are always responsive and wonderful to work with. So far, I've had a positive experience. Would recommend especially if you're fresh out of university and would like some relevant work experience in your field.
Garbage agency where they tell you your rate is more than what is on your contract. When you mention that its not what it was mentioned; They tell you to "sign the form anyways and they will fix it to get the ball rolling". When you start the job and get your first pay the pay doesn't add up because they didn't fix anything. After calling them back and expressing the concern; they said "You signed the contract". When complaining higher; they let me go for no reason...
I would like first of all to thank ExcelHR for their dedication and tireless work to help job seekers find a job and earning a living. Compared to other agencies that I have applied with, ExcelHR has been the only one that finds me job placement all the time for 3 years straight now. Of course, there have been breaks between postings but all in all, It is the best so far. Kudos to the staff. One little point, but also important for me is the record of employment. I have gone a month with no income because they did not put record of employment online for me to claim employment insurance. If only they could post it by the last day of the contract, that would help a lot because, the employment income we earn is not enough to save for those dry days when one is between job placements.
Got contacted after applying to a bunch of jobs on the site. Never heard from them again. Won t return emails, never had a job forwarded to me to apply. I emailed asking what else I could do To get more responses, nothing not a peep
Stacey at Excel HR was amazing! She not only helped me find Full time employment she also ensured that i was happily employed after the fact! I would also like to thank her co-worker Britney P who always assisted when Stacey was on the other line.
Excel is one of the best and biggest agencies in Ottawa. The recruiters are very professional and very personable. They helped me land the jobs I wanted. I have always been very vocal about the positions I am interested in and also very vocal about when and what kind of jobs I am looking for at the moment. The recruiters always help me with my resume with the positions they are applying me for. They tell me what I need in my resume in order for my resume to be noticed by you the employer. They have never presented me with a job contract where I don't meet the requirements. The other agencies (I won't name) they always send me an email stating they have a contract for me and if I am interested or not, but they always fail to read the requirements and qualifications for the position, as for Excel they always call me before sending me an email asking if I am interested and they are very good in reading the requirements and qualifications of the job before giving me call. I have been with Excel since high school and they have always been very understanding with what kind of positions I want. Excel has helped me develop my technical skills through out the years by matching me with the right jobs. I started off with data entry clerk positions, then to receptionist positions, to admin positions, to now marketing/communications/business development positions. This theory works wonders because, I was able to work on my data entry skills during my high school days, then they matched me with one or two days contracts for reception positions, then eventually longer contracts as an admin clerks with the government and private sectors as I got more mature in the work force. They did an amazing job building my resume and also marketing my resume to their clients for jobs. As for now they are helping me land positions as marketing exec, communication officer or a business development person as I am a marketing graduate. When I finished my school for marketing, I had reached out to excel stating I only want positions in my field and I wasn't looking for admin positions, but when it was hard for me to land any of the positions I wanted due to my lack of professional experience in the department, I seeked out to them again and let them know that I am okay with admin positions for time being, they got me an admin role with one of the private sectors in a week. Now I am working at this firm as admin but Excel is still helping me land a professional job in the line of my work. The key to success with Excel or any other agencies is that in order to land the positions you applied for, you have to follow up, as the recruiters are very busy with their day to day work. Also you have to learn how to respect the recruiter and their work. I say this because even the other agencies always gets my qualifications wrong with the job they try to match me up with, I always show and give them respect, and they always send me an email regarding other positions they have available. In order to get respect in the work force or anywhere you have to give respect as well. Excel has not only helped me land jobs, but they have helped me become the young professional I am today.
Very impressive office. Big and clean "Fish Tank" offices. The receptionist is always friendly. The job agents genuinely care about obtaining suitable employment for candidates. Highly suggest anyone looking for a job to give ExcelHR a try.
excelHR truly cares about the work they doing, their staff, and placing qualified candidates. I am proud to work for such a motivated, hard working, and passionate company!
I have nothing to say except good experience with ExcelHr. It's very hard to find a good job especially when I'm a newcomer; however, under the contract with excelHR I had the opportunity to work with good organisations and found a good job after 6 months. Thank you Nomin for your support. Highly recommend ExcelHR for anyone looking for job.
here what you need to know: - if you expect them to find you a job quickly (without searching yourself), dont expect to work much - they mostly dont call in summer - they don't communicate between them, it's normal to receive 2 calls from 2 different employee for the same job offer - some of them can take a while to answers e-mails (couple hours) - sometime emails are never answers - possibility of extension for your contract will mostly never happen - if you give them your cellphone number and home number, expect to be call on the cellphone more often then home number, even if you ask them to call home first
We are fortunate to work with the best staffing firm in the city! The management, culture, care, great team and rewards are part of why our clients and candidates keep coming back!
Choose another employment agency. They are negligent and could care less about the safety of their employees. They care about making money and have no regard for the law. They don t conduct proper background check on its clients. Do your own research and you will see many other people who have worked for them. It s not a happy ending.
I received a tremendous service with ExcelHR. The staff is very helpful and works as much as they can to help you find a suitable job. They are very quick and easy to deal with. As compared to other agencies, i have been with, this is the best in Ottawa. I worked with Stecy and her team and i found a job within one week. Excellent, quick and easy services. Highly recommend!
Signed up two years ago. I never got a job from them. They asked me to get a security clearance so I paid and got it done. Never was called back for an interview they have never met me and dont know anything about me besides what's on paper.
Extremely fast placement - within a couple of days of applying, and a perfect fit! Sonia and the whole team were friendly, professional, and very helpful.
Amazing agency! I got a full time position after 1 week of meeting with a consultant. I love my new job and this position is really in the field that I was looking for. I would recommend for anyone that is looking for any office experience.
Do not recommend this agency either, same reasons as the other reviews before where they do not ever contact you back and only have certain favourites who they contact.
I don't even want to give this place 1 star! WORST couple months of my life dealing with this business! What a joke! The receptionists were nice and very helpful until they handed me off to Coleen McPherson! What a MISTAKE that was. She is so unprofessional and rude, I have NO idea how she was hired by a place like this in the first place. When she heard I didn't speak French she told me Excel HR couldn't help me and the likeliness of me getting a job wasn't good. Sorry but excuse me!? For someone who just moved to Ottawa, this wasn't exactly a warming welcome. Part way through our conversation in her office she picked up her phone to text. Again, extremely unprofessional and rude.
I registered with this pretentious agency 3 months ago and still no work. I get very inconsiderate replies when enquiring about any potential temp work, saying, "I am concentrating on placing my bilingual applicants first". Despite completing all of their online IT tests and scoring 90% in all 3 tests, they have come up with nothing! Despite having three University degrees and working as a professional for the past 14 years, this agency has only proven its ability to pay lip service. Well done and thanks for nothing!
Professional and friendly staff eager to help you fulfill your career objectives. They're motivated and work fast to help you land that ideal job. Highly recommended!!!!
I have been dealing with Excel HR for 5 years. So far I secured 3 positions through them. Here is my review of them: Pros: 1) They know how to set their rate to win positions, which gives people who register with them a higher chance of getting a job 2) All their agents were polite with me and professional. They answered their phone and email on time and provided me with the necessary assistance.
Cons: 1) They are very greedy and cheap. It is good that they set their rate lower than other agencies to win the contract. However, once they win the contract, they take at least one third of the worker's salary for themselves. The fact that they helped me find a job is great. However, when my contract got renewed a few times, it is because of my personal effort and because I was a good worker. They did not make any effort for my contract to be renewed. Therefore, they should not continue to take the same rate out of my pay check after my contract is renewed but rather they should leave me with a higher salary. 2) Every time my contract was renewed through them, I asked for an increase in salary but they refused. 3) I know people who were interviewed by them and have been waiting for months but never received an offer through them.
Sent in resume and applied to a few jobs myself. Nothing from them at all. I am a university graduate so I was expecting at least something. It's free to put apply but don't expect anything from them.
