LOVELY place to visit. Recommend check-in out the show times at night as well as hiring an electric car for a tour of the gardens. Having snacks and sandwiches will be great to enjoy in the gardens.

I was there in June, 1984, in August 1991, in August 2005 with my family of six, and in August 2014 with my younger son. The best experience was the last one as the packaged tour group arrived too early in the morning which allowed my son and I the time to enjoy the Palace garden for the first time with jogging, jumping and photo-taking!

The Palace is beautiful but the line to get through security check is unbelievable long and slow! There are one or two security at entrance. We waited over 2+ hours in cold snowing weather just to get through security check.

Great site to visit and tons of history, but the crowd control was awful! We had tickets purchased 4 months in advance but still had to wait on the "entry line" for an hour and 10 minutes! There was no order to the madness and trying to wander around was not possible due to the large crowds. We spent more time jockeying for a position to leave each room than looking at the room itself. The fire code there must not be enforced. If there was an emergency, we would have been trampled like animals.

Terrible experience. We bought skip the line tickets online only to be told to wait in a 3+ hour line with everyone else that also bought the same tickets. If you come..I highly encourage you get timed tickets.

Disappointed with the crowds in July. Good to get away from the city but expected a more relaxed atmosphere. Admittedly not my kind of place but the garden was nice to walk around with the family. The fountain "Show" was a complete bust for my kids. They literally just turn them on and play music, lol. Inside was overcrowded to a point of just wanting to leave. I like some of the history but not enjoyable with so many people. Very hot inside some areas inside the palace (crowds play a major role of course). I would recommend going outside tourist season if possible.

Although we had to queue for 3 hours to enter the palace, it is a place worth to visit and should do when you visit France. Especially for those who love history, architecture and painting. Adult ticket is 18, kids below 18 y are free. Open from 9 AM to 6 PM. Have a good day there.

It is big and the gardens are huge. But I found that is is not as luxurious when it comes to furnishings like they have in Russian palaces in St. Petersburg and in Germany. You definitely don't need a whole day for palace. In 4 hours we saw everything. If you don't want to get tired in the gardens they rent the golf carts that you can drive and accomodates 4 people. You can also rent Segway. And there is an hop on hop off shuttle taking you around from one place to the other. Book online and get scheduled time. As the scheduled line is way way shorter. If you buy the ticket there, good luck standing in a long long long queue for good 3 hours. Don't make that mistake. Also don't buy the ticket there and stand in a small line which is for timed entry. I saw that people who bought the ticket there stood in queue for good half an hour to be kicked off and sent to another line as they did not have timed entry. You should have seen the shock and frustration on their faces. Poor souls. Not their day that day. So yeah buy online before you get there.

Massive and gorgeous place. Arrive early even if you THINK you can tour the palace, gardens and the additional apartments buildings on the property (FYI, you won't be able to).

Wear comfortable shoes, bring a bottle of water and an extra charging pack. Tour guides may slow you down so I recommend doing your own walkthrough unless you are a history buff and want to hear all the details --- this will take you at least 1 week.

After the Palace, check out the Gardens and back buildings. We rented a golf cart (34 Euro per hour) to drive through the gardens and to the Grand and Petit Trianon. Make sure your tickets allow entry

While ideally a 1 day trip to gain cost efficiency with the ticket price deal, it just seems impossible without getting overloaded mentally and physically (we actually picked up 2 'hitch hikers' in the Gardens because they were too tired to walk back to where they started and we were heading there), I'd recommend breaking your visit into 1 day at the Palace and then 1 day for the rest of the grounds.

Palace is beautiful, but it was so packed with people on the day of our visit we couldn't enjoy our stay. If you are pressed for time in Paris I would recommend spending your time at other attractions and not make this trip.

I found the gardens dry, hot and the rooms without much furniture. I prefer other palaces in Europe. I am a vegan and could not find anything to eat, the salads are premade and contein cheese. Pas a manger pour moi! I went to a market in Paris and got a few things.

Wow! What an amazing place that holds so much history! I definitely recommend picking up an audio-guide once you pass the security checkpoint inside the building (many languages are available). I'd also lookup the place before the visit and decide on which parts to visit because it is very big.
I went on a rainy and cold day so I didn't get a chance to fully enjoy the gardens.

Also, don't forget to wear comfortable shoes because it's a lot of walking.

Versailles is one of those places everyone should see. Beautiful. The grandeur. The splendor. The white wainscoting with gold guilding, the statues and marble floors...

And those thoughts of guillotines and revolution that did away with the French monarchy quietly lurking in the back of one's mind.

The Hall of Mirrors, where the Treaty of Versailles was signed is also worth seeing for its far more recent 30th century historic importance.

It's a palace not a fortress and a must see.

The palace itself is obviously very beautiful and historic. However, it does get very very busy by the middle of the day which can make it difficult to enjoy the inside of the palace though that should be expected of such a popular tourist spot. When it is crowded inside, the rooms get very warm, especially in the summer and this can be quite difficult for kids. Would recommend going as early as when it opens to fully be able to enjoy the rooms if not, before 11 am. There are golf carts in the gardens which we wished we went earlier as it will be difficult to see all of the garden as it is hot to walk around and the gardens are huge. In conclusion, go early for the inside so you can avoid crowds and have plenty of time for the garden.

Do yourself a favor and make the trip to go and see enormity in physical form but also in history. Its a half an hour to forty five minute trip outside the side of the city of Paris. I highly recommend going in the morning for the least amount of crowds. It gives you more time and space to to learn about the history (audio guide) and soak in this sights ( hall of mirrors, sculptures, ornate decoration, views from the palace, etc..). Then make your way out side to see the gardens, extremely vast and expansive. The only gripe that I could possibly have is that some some of the out guide numbers are hard to spot. I would totally recommend, a heads up is that it will be tricky to get around the palace if you aren't physically able to walk a far bit and get up and down stairs. All in all this is my first 5 star, its an incredible place

The worst management I've ever seen. Arrived with prepaid ticket and spent 2.5 hours in a massive queue for security check. The staff is heavily under invested. Even though the venue must be making hundreds of thousands of euros per day, they put one guy outside to manage the line and 4 folks to do security checks in the small entrance A. No doubt there is 2000 people lined up outside waiting to get in. In the meantime you see large groups from buses skipping you by taking dedicated entrance B. The security check is not even for your safety since you spend 3 hours in massive crowd. I would recommend going to the gardens directly since it has own entrance (yes we had to leave the castle and enter the gardens separately - I guess they just love queues) and the interior is just a few rooms that are not worth the queue.

Full of history. Makes sense to get the museum pass. Though the garden entry ticket is separate. There walk through the Queen's gate and Mary Antoinette's Hamlet by a trolley are also worth adding to the trip. Going into the palace after 2:30 pm the lines are much shorter. The museum pass also allow you to rent audio guide for free. The cloak room to leave the backpack or an umbrella is a free service and goes a long way to make the tour of the palace easier.

Arrive early, make sure you get into the correct line or risk losing time. Note that one of the lines is for locals with a special pass. If you have the museum pass you will need to get into the regular line. I would recommend arriving at 7 am and walking the grounds before the crowds arrive. Be back to the gates to get in line by 8am. I would also recommend that you get the tour of the residence first and then take the rest of the day to walk the grounds. If you can, visit on days when the fountains are on. Check the website for the foutain dates and times. Mid 5o late October is when I visited. Since it was the end of the season the croods were not bad at all. Bring your best walking shoes, grounds can be rugged and the walk between the chateau and Trianon is very long. Definitely worth taking a day to explore. If you want to navigate the grounds more efficiently rent a cart early on in the day, they do sell out and can be a life saver with kids, older people or if you didn't bring good walking shoes.

Ok. So there's good and bad. The palace was very crowded, so much that you couldn't really enjoy the beautiful surroundings. However, the gardens are spectacular. I spent hours wondering the gardens and never got bored. My tip: do the gardens first, then the palace.

Palace of Versailles is a must-visit in France. Make sure to buy your tickets online and well in advance. Get to Versailles as soon as possible in the morning to beat the crowds and the waves of tourist buses. The gardens are wonderful - make sure to check when the fountains put on the show and plan ahead to avoid missing it/being disappointed. Bring a snack to the garden - it is huuuuge and there are not so many options to get refreshed.

Palace of Versailles is one of the mustgo historic place. It has got vaste, majestic gardens and musical water fountains and a huge palace rich in historic events. There are different fees that need to be paid for the visit of the garden and the palace. Moreover I wouldn't advise to visit the place on friday and weekends because it's so crowded.

I have been a number of times to Versailles over the years, and it s disappointing to see that it hasn t changed at all. The same few rooms are open, and the crows are just too intense for the space. Worth going out to the other palace buildings and gardens. The palace is gorgeous though.

I have traveled to many countries, but I must say this was one of the most beautiful place I visited. It is beautiful, rich in history, and the palace interior and exterior is enormous. I think it would be impossible to see every corner in just one day.

Visiting this palace was quite spectacular in seeing how over done it was. However, it was, by far, the most crowded tour of my entire France visit. Wall to wall people made if difficult to see many artifacts up close.

I would only recommend seeing this during the off season and only with a group. The reason for this is that if you are not in a group, you will have to wait (hours) for a ticket. Groups have set times and get quicker access. If you do go during tourist season - be prepared for wall to wall people.

Very beautiful and opulent palace (especially The Hall of Mirrors). I loved the 22 karat gold gilding in almost every room. This site is obviously gigantic and it's best enjoyed if you spend a full day and plan out what you want to really see. Best to use a museum pass to reduce waiting time to buy tickets, but you will still have to go through the security check line like any major site. Getting a guided tour can help you go to certain parts of the palace not normally available for regular visitors (do your research).

Versailles is beautiful. Expect a long line about an hour's wait to get into the palace to tour. We only toured the gardens, the line & wait is a lot shorter. Many fountains, which are synchronized to music every 15 mins. Many spots to sit when you need a rest. You can also hire a golf cart to tour around the gardens. There's toilets in the garden, at the restaurant etc....The food in the restaurant is decent. A tad over priced but to be expected in these types of places. It's a nice leisurely walk. The area around the palace is very nice, a few shops, lovely architectural buildings.

The only problem visiting Palace of Versailles is the very long waiting lines to the entrance. The problem becomes more accute, when the weather is not confortable for waiting. outside. This is the situation, even if you bought tickets in advance.
Unfortunately, it is still impossible to pre-order the weather conditions...
The site, the palace is very nice, even that now, from my age and experience, I think, that I prefer, for example the Bavarian places of Ludwig or a few others. The gardens are marvelous, in the right seson.

How could one not rate the Palace of Versailles anything but five stars? It's beauty and splendor have been enchanting visitors for centuries. I would highly recommend booking a tour of the private apartments, it is well worth the little bit of extra money. We had an engaging and informative guide and the group was a very good number so we were not overcrowded and could see everything well.
