After paying 160 for the room I was greeted on arrival (after a flight and a long wait through passport control - 23:45) with news that they had over booked and given my room away. The boy at the desk had no empathy towards the situation and was very dismissive of my plight. After 30 mins of further waiting I did manage to get a room (directly beside a service room - 108) so had noise consistently through the night being woken up a number of times.
This will be my first and last stay at a Meininger hotel.
The single room is small but enough for single passenger. However the toilet is not clean...
Very good staffs and are all professional in their work. The rooms were clean and better than expected which made my stay even more pleasant. However, breakfast was supposed to be served at 6 but i waited till 6 30. this is not a problem in itself but considering i woke up early to be at the airport on time.
also, there could be fresh fruits for breakfast and pancakes which would be a plus. overall i was very satisfied and would visit again on my next trip.
Great services, great price and feel happy to stay there again.
great hostel and very silent (its right infront of the train station)
clean, staff is great , location is literally out the train stop so no prob to get to amsterdam . I was in 6 person dorm room. the satff also kept my luggage for free after checkout . the only down side I found is that being amsterdam of tourists go there for a little smoke . this place has no outdoor smoking area protected from rain.
Rooms are a bit small but as we were hardly in the room it didn't matter, bathroom is modern and clean. Shower was lovely and powerful. I didn't realise how close it was to the train station, but we never heard a train in our room. Curtains are black out curtains and worked very very well. All in all its a good hotel, I would stay again.
Luvly rooms and very clean...there was 7 of us which all enjoyed our stay would definitely recommend to anyone looking a peaceful clean and helpful stay.
Location and room are ok and receptionists were friendly. However, the kitchen was dirty and there s a lack of cutlery. The elevators are slow. There were also groups of students staying in the hotel and they were noisy - putting on loud music in their rooms and corridors till late at night
Hi,
We arrived at our hotel at 11am although check in was at 3pm. We were told we had to come back at check in time which we did however we had to pay to keep our luggages there at the hotel which is first issue. We were not told this prior to booking and I have not been at a single hotel where they charge you for keeping your luggages.
We then had to travel around amsterdam for 4 hours in 40 degrees heat with our luggages. Upon arrival at check in once again at 3pm, we found that our room was FILTHY. It hadn t even been cleaned at all. There was pee stains on the bed sheets, food under, on top and in the beds. There was other peoples socks, cutleries and bottles of drinks in the bed too and under it. There was HAIR everywhere on the bed sheets like there had been a dog on the bed. The toilet floor had hair, food and someones earrings on the floor. We had 4 beds yet one towel was provided for the shower. The windows weren t even windows.
When making this complaint to reception, we were told there was no other rooms and no other option for us but to take the room we were given as it is. I then had to ASK for a cleaner to come clean the room properly again making us wait even longer for our room. The cleaner was so rude she didn t even let me speak to show her the filth she left in the room, she was very defensive and argumentative and once she cleaned the room she said she had better things to do.
When complaining to the manager again because she failed to clean it properly AGAIN, the manager was rude to us did not apologise whatsoever and was defensive also. She said even if she gave me another room i d just look for another issue. Basic hygeine is clearly not a standard at this hotel and we had to sleep in filthy conditions for 2 nights and 3 days.
I was not given a refund but a free breakfast however the breakfast was stale, cold and they provided barely any food. We had to go out of the hotel to find breakfast because the standards of their food was just as bad as the rooms.
I have seen that this hotel has ALOT of bad reviews but was sold to me with the false idea that it was a nice, clean hotel as all the good reviews were put above the bad reviews
Rooms are clean, modern and simple. The dinner and the breakfast are also good. The view from the window of the hotel is astonishing, especially in the night when there are so many lights around.
The service was great, the rooms are very clean, and there is a possibility to cook in the Hotel. Very good offer for families. Directly in front of station amsterdam slotterdijk.
We'll come again.
Overall good experience but mainly dirty room and not good cleaned when we arrived.
Clean comfortable hostel a short train ride from the city center. A bit expensive for the location. Breakfast and laundry were also kind of pricey. Still would recommend it. My roommates sucked, but it's a hostel outside Amsterdam. You should be prepared to lose some sleep.
Location is very good, near to restaurants, a supermarket and transportation. Rooms are clean, big and brightly decorated. There are many facilities such as recreational game s like a pool table. There was even a guest kitchen and a washing machine. Service provided is good.
As we arrived at the hotel early in morning, the staff is so nice that can let us check in earlier and take a rest. Really nice experience here.
very kind people at desk
a room a little small for three adults but clean and comfortable
a place very easy to reach by train and tram
Myself and two friends stayed at Meininger's hotel from the 16th September to the 19th September 2016. The rooms are clean but to sit outside and have a drink or to eat as the evening sets in then the rats will appear. My friend took photo's of them on his phone it certainly gives you a very uncomfortable feeling as when you go inside ever a shadow makes you jolt.
Chaos. That's is the only thing I can say to label this place.
-The location is very good , having it so close to Sloterdijk station ( both to Schiphol and the city center).
-The staff was very friendly and helpful .
-Breakfast is very good.
-Nice rooms .
-Great kids place in the lobby .
Two minor things for improvement :
-having a safe in the room / an option to store valuable stuff docs.
-better options for late supper , we got recommendation on pizza and pasta which we ordered from the reception ( it was very bad )
Nice rooms for a fair price. Perfect transport via train at Sloterdijk to Central.
Breakfast 8/10. Rooms small but Clean 6/10. Staff friendly 10/10. Location meh 3/10.
I would definitely recommend families to stay here. The first reason is because the hotel is just located 2 mins walk from one of the main station. This means you can visit any place in Amsterdam by taking any public transport such as trams, buses or trains. Whichever you choose it only takes short time to reach any place. On the other hand, the game zone in the reception area was useful to just spend some time with kids after a long day trip or just get ready before you start the day. We also liked the buffet breakfast with different choices. The price was affordable. It was a comfortable stay.
Clean and new. Full of children. Breakfast is ok (buffet). The room was very cold, the heating was not working properly, no heating enough and very loud. Constant noise of the extraction fan from the bathroom. Nice firm bed. Overall, it could be better...
Very close to the metro and train station. A supermarket nearby. Good for family trip.
This was my very first hostel and I was very impressed. Everyone was very nice. You can select single sex rooms. There are games and a bar inside that sells snacks. It's right near a train station, bike parking and a food stand.
Really nice service and nice rooms. Minus for very loud atmosphere in hallway. But all in all super.
Nice hotel with accessible transportation. Only one minute walk to the Sloterdijk train station where you can reach central Amsterdam in 5 minutes or 15 minutes to Airport. Staff are friendly as well.
Well maintained hotel with a good price. Has a bar with a outside siting area. Breakfast is barely ok. Parking is complex and not cheap. Very near a big train/bus/tram station but it takes around 40 minutes to be in the city center using a public transportation.
I spent Christmas week in Amsterdam and this stay was made even better thanks to Meininger Hotel. A warm welcome from day one thanks to a young and multilingual staff who try to do well. The establishment is new and very well maintained, thanks to a quality staff who make sure that the hotel is as clean as possible. The rooms are cleaned every day, clean towels are provided daily and toiletries (shower gel, shampoo, toilet paper, hand soap) are included in the bathroom.
The shared kitchen is large enough to accommodate several people for cooking and the fridge and freezer is large enough to accommodate several shopping bags (each person must store their groceries in the bags provided, so as not to have their food taken) .
The only "problem" of this trip was the fact that the luggage was not kept free during the time of check-in (3pm), paid lockers were created for this purpose. We were able to take advantage of free baggage storage only on the last day as no paid lockers were available.
In short, this youth hostel, equivalent to a 2-star hotel, is worth its price and offers quality services, which is why I highly recommend it.
had a bad experience, manager lady was horrible, I advise everyone to stay away
Cheap, nice, really small and far away from the party
This place is like hostel and not like hotel. It's crowded with young travelers that sometimes make a lot of noise.
Our room was not clean and the floor was dirty with sand.the people in the reception did not help.
We had to put the sheets on the top beds which looks like very odd for us, is it a self service hotel where we have to put the sheets and clean our room ?
The hotel located clise to public transport which is 15-20 minutes from the center and from the airport
Good service. Workers can speak good english but room service didn't clean my room even though I was out for several hours
Love the whole hotel chain. Might be a bit pricey for a student traveler. But does worth it's money and definitely the best place for a quick stay in Amsterdam.
Very nice hostel, private bathroom, quality beds, complimentary towels, a ton of outlets, and free wifi in the rooms
Nice clean place. Very modern and not too expensive. One negative things is that there aren't many amenities except for free WiFi. For example, we forgot to bring toothpaste and tooth brush and had to pay for about a nickle size toothpaste and a very small brush. But other than that small inconvenience everything is very nice.
Roam Service and communication service from room to front desk need to be incorporated.
Clean rooms but over priced.
Youth hostel feeling.
I LOVED this hotel. I really do recommend it for families with children. Breakfast is provided. At night you get to play jenga and PARTY with friends and family. There is a train station right next to the hotel which is convenient as you can go straight to Schipol Airport and And Amsterdam Centraal
Fantastic hostel, friendly and helpful staff, clean, organised and much recommended, although a bit far from the old town
Great value especially if you only use the room for the night. Very clean and modern. Big advantage - you can buy many discounted tickets for example for canals etc. at the bottom of the reception. Very friendly staff! My recommendation!
Our stay was absolutely amazing, great in every way. Especially the room cleaning service every day! The staff are great, well informed, and happy to help at all times. I will stay here next time for sure!
It was very loud, because it was crowded with young people. A bit like a hostel. If you want to park your car it will cost 10 euro and 50 euro deposit for a normal plastic card. Deposit is way too expensive... The rooms are clean.
Nice stay with a good local connection to public transportation. Hotel was ok as it was more a budget hotel oppose to what was expected.
We arrived late (10:30) but that did not pose any problem. Everything was fine until there was a little problem at the time we were to leave. I had asked lunch packages, had verified that they were noted and said we needed 4 fewer but when I asked for them, the personnel could not find them. They finally put them together but as a result we had to run to catch the bus at Orlyplein. There was no time to see if the 4 unused lunches could be reimbursed.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this hotel: calm, clean, simple but comfortable, pleasant shower, good breakfast, reasonably priced. Perfect for groups.
Good location and helpful staff, but budget rooms and services.
Nice place to stay. Decent rooms with guest kitchen.
Also transportation wise, it is the best place (nearest tram/bus/metro station: Amsterdam Sloterdijk).
The best hotel i have ever been with this kind of prices.
The hotel is very nice, well connected with other parts of Amsterdam. Reception staff is very friendly and helpful
Excellent place to stay. Great location near rail road station & center of Amsterdam
We have a private room. But, the room is clean, the bathroom is clean, the staff are friendly, and it's fairly close to several thousand to do. Over all, very nice!
A little hight price for a hotel that's so far from downtown. Breakfast OK for 8 extra
Very good hotel. Simple and comfortable rooms. There is no fridge or the like because there is a communal fridge and a communal kitchen. It was a very interesting experience. Near the hotel you have a supermarket where you can buy ingredients to make your own food and two restaurants (normal quality). Very close to the train station also which facilitates access to any point in the city.
We had a fabulous experience there. Its cheaper, but the service and environment is really good for travelers, very close to the station, easy to connect to anywhere in Europe through bus or train. They have a wonderful guest kitchen, you can cook yourself, and save some money.
Hotel is clean and tidy. Only the hand wash basin stopper broken and therefore after close it cannot open anymore. But since it happen at night, there is no one can help us to solve it and it end up the water in wash basin all stuck. We inform the reception next day morning, the housekeeping help to open it but never change the stopper, therefore it happen again next day night time. Again, we suffer the water stuck until next day. Same day we came back, we found the stopper still never replace, to avoid water stuck again, we remove the stopper by putting on top on the wall. We put the stopper back before we leave.
Hotel in great location beside train station in quiet out of city area.
Good hostel/budget hotel. Outside the city centre but only a short 6 minute train joy journey from Centraal station ( 5 return ticket)
Very clean and practical hotel . I like the concept a lot for socializing
Basic hotel but clean with staff being very helpful. It is 2 minutes walk from the station which takes you to the city center within 5 minutes. Easy access to the airport too by train. Quite pricy for what it has to offer.
Room was small but very clean. Breakfast like a scout camp. Extremely minimal, lacking many things and self cleaning. I would stay again and recommend it but only room, not breakfast
Great hotel for budget travelers. Everything was good except beds. Bedbugs should be exterminated.
Loved our stay and the rooms were great, however some of the staff can be a bit rude. Would recommend and stay here again. Great for a group booking.
It's a good place to have a good time in Amsterdam, the station is next to it. The rooms are simple but the bathroom is spectacular. You can stay in the bar at night and you meet a lot of people , usually young of different countries.
It's a great hotel literally as you step outside Amsterdam Sloterdijk station. Important bit is its one stop away from both Schipol Airport and Amsterdam central station....both very important landmarks when you visit Amsterdam. Beds were very comfortable bathrooms and toilets very clean. Decent spread in the buffet every morng, though it is the same everyday and everywhere you stay in Europe. One important thing missing from the rooms is a kettle and tea and coffee in the room itself. For people desperate for a cup of tea as soon as they wake up it's a long wait till u get dressed and down for the buffet especially when traveling with children.
Bunk beds were very nice and comfortable for the children and so were the double king beds. A hotel I would really recommend to everyone I know visiting Amsterdam. Well done to all the reception n buffet staff. Very warm and welcoming.
A very pleasant stay, the hotel is very well located, clean and the staff is friendly.
I'd like to return!
Pretty nice. Not badly priced for Amsterdam and only a 5 minute train ride straight into central. Even has free shampoo
Very good connection, the hotel offers everything you need and is completely clean. The self-catering kitchen is great, so I can't say anything about the food there. Ours was great and the kitchen there has everything you need. A kettle in the room would be nice, but you can also quickly dash down to the kitchen. Very friendly staff. The bike rental in the house is also great, the bikes are okay for Amsterdam.
Not a bad place to stay, the rooms aren't amazing even though they are quite expensive.
Hi
we booked 2 rooms one quadruple and one triple room , Triple room was so small not even any luggage can fit, no where to stand or put things
After so much arguments at reception they changed my room still small
I would never stay in this hotel in future
Very neat and tidy hotel with spacious rooms, nice staff and a very good location to hop in and out of Amsterdam Centre.
I got to stay at Meininger hotel in Amsterdam in a very cheap price. It was too good for that price. Loved staying here :)
A 2 star hostel charging 5 star prices ( 300+ per night) with staff that ooze passive aggression. Quite simply the worst value experience in 30 years of business travel.
We enjoyed our stay here with group of friends. Comfortable beds. Easy access going to places coz the train station and bus station is just beside the hotel.
despite the hotel seems too outside of the city center its indeed very well served by public transports. in less than 10 minuts by train we can be at the central station. very easy to return to the hotel late night. the train station its 1 minut walking from the hotel, thats awesome after a long day. that. the hostel is nice, modern but the staff was the best surprise. great staff very helpful. dont need to try to find other hostels. comparing the prices and the value this is a great option. will be bacl very very soon
the only good thing was that the location was near the train station and some small shops, the staff was very nice and polite as well but the rooms were way to small for 4 people and the air system didn't work. it was way to hot at night. you aren't able to open the windows, so its very hard to sleep at night as well because the air is very heavy inside. if you are in need for good wlan you wont get it here either.
On the morning of our first stay money was stolen out of closed bags in our private and locked room. After contacting the manager no effort was made to invesitgate or resolve the issue. Instead of helping us or validating our complaint the manager just didn't care and referred us to the police. Thank you for nothing and I would erge everyone to book a different hotel.
