Today was our first visit here and I am definitely planning a return trip. I had a Blood Orange margarita that was exceptional. We ordered the enchiladas poblanas and a combination plate and both were absolutely delicious. The service was also great.

One day I was driving up the coast from San Diego and was running out of gas. Me and my friends just had a week-long Fourth of July celebration and we're in need of some fuel of our own. We stumbled across El Adobe and since that day in 2005, I've been here at least 50 more times. My only complaint is that they did away with their chimichanga. I can't imagine why as it was the best thing on the menu. But aside from that, this nearly hundred-year-old establishment is a SoCal landmark. I highly suggest giving it a try!

My husband djed here and it was an awesome place for an event. The staff was helpful, polite and pleasant. Food was ahmazing. Not like authentic -authentic Mexican (because it wasn't spicey) but it was enough to where everyone enjoyed it. Really nice private party space. The roof stayed open and although no stars it was fresh and beautiful.

Awful!

Historic place to visit and travel back in time when San Juan Capistrano was more of a cattle town than it is today. The El Adobe restaurant site has been recognized as a California State Historical Landmark. It is situated just two short blocks south of the historic Mission San Juan Capistrano and the Amtrak Train Depot. The adobe building was originally two separate structures. The northern section was originally the home of Miguel Yorba Adobe, built in 1797. The southern half housed the Juzgado (court and jails) and was established in 1812.

How have I never eaten here! Great, busy, traditional Mexican Restaurant. Has an interesting menu, but its all very tasty. Refreshing margaritas and made-to-order guacamole crafted at your table! They even have a very good kids menu for the little ones! It can get noisy, but it's a really enjoyable experience!

Currently open for dining or takeout. Great food and drinks. The restaurant has a roof that slides open to let in the breeze, sun and stars. Because of this, while technically indoor, it is considered outdoor dining. There is also a nice patio for dining.

Ordered a chicken taco plate and was disappointed: chicken was finely chopped and had no taste, the beans were bland, and the rice was oily. On top of that, the price is high compared to other places that offered better tasting food for half the price.

The steak fajitas were amazing! The portions were large making it a great value. The service was very fast. They were on top of refills without having to ask. I would definitely go back here!

My first visit to SJ Capistrano, in Christmas week and we found that the restaurant had a system failure. Even though we had to wait awhile for a table, after getting Margaritas at the bar, it was well worth the wait! A special trip with my two sisters and we had the table side-prepared appetizer, Guacamole, which we enjoyed with the chips and the meal! Service was slow and all the new diners were turned away, except at the bar. But they were not serving food at the bar. Later we learned that mobile web services were down nationally in some locations.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner we had a super burrito with a strawberry juice drink. The food and strawberry drink were da bomb. However the cashier was rude forgot to give us chips and rushed our order. I don't know if it is because my significant other is AA I hope not but I definitely don't like how the service was. I just like the food that's it.

Great atmosphere, amazing history, and good food. Definitely love the back patio and the old bar the most. So much room to spread out, as there's multi levels and rooms throughout. Their attention to detail and beautiful setting makes for an excellent event venue as well.

El Adobe is a fantastic venue for both your wedding ceremony and reception. We held both here in January and it was amazing. The natural character of the venue allows you to not have to add a whole lot in decor. The food is amazing and the venue's wedding coordinator, Andrea, is awesome to work with. The value you get is unrivaled for being a Southern California venue. We would highly recommend this location.

The food here is absolutely amazing! I always get the chile verde and it's delicious and authentic. The chips and salsa are very tasty. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. It's my husband's and my favorite restaurant. We have never had a bad experience with the staff. We have always had a wonderful time and a delicious dinner. It's a little bit on the expensive side but it's so tasty and the restaurant is so quaint... The price is worth it!

Delicious food, wonderful ambiance. We eat here locally and had our wedding here. The courtyard is gorgeous and the event space roof opens so you are under the stars. Amazing.

This is a high class, historic, and very classic Mexican Restaurant. President Nixon had visited this establishment frequently enough to have a special item named after him. No wait for restaurant side, but the bar side during happy hour gets very busy. The food is authentic mexican food and very tasty. The service was good and we had a really good time. If you are in the mood for good mexican food and really nice atmosphere, then this is the place to go. Enjoy!

Must try the guacamole. It is made fresh at the table side (pre pandemic) and it is just heavenly. Other dishes are excellent as well. It's a big restaurant but it gets really busy on weekends. In my experience, the staffs are friendly and service is always good.
