I'm surprised at how many poor reviews this firm has. Not my own experience at all.

Used Ebico 10 years ago for a year: no compliants at all.

Switched to Ebico again a few years ago. Then they switched from SSE to Robin Hood Energy and it's been a bit less organised now they have to handle their own billing, and it's taken them about a year to realise that asking me for meter readings after they have already printed my bill is a bit futile, resulting in estimated bills that I refuse to pay until they are reissued correctly.

In fairness to them, the last bill they sent me was based on the readings I had given them and I have no complaints whatsoever.

Whenever I have had complaints, they have been regarding relatively minor matters, and have always been handled professionally.

They did ring me once about Smart Meters. Knowing more about smart meters than the person who wanted me to have one, I think I managed to convince them I really did not want a smart meter at this stage and politely refused to have one fitted and they have not pestered me again.

For a firm that accepts payments on receipt of bill, quarterly, for a low user such as myself, they have saved me a lot of money. I just wish they did a renewable energy tariff.

I've used ebico for flats that are not always occupied as they have a tarrif without a standing charge. The move to Robin Hood Energy for back office wasn't smooth but I now submit meter readings online and everything is very smooth and easy.

I wish i given them big fat 0. I moved to a property around 3 months ago. I was with them even before i moved. When i moved, i gave my details and my new meter reading. Its nearly over three months. 9 calls were made. The best thing i recorded every phonecall. They seem to have no proof. Its cheap alright. But when things go wrong, it can be very difficult to correct But the service is realy poor . Dont go with them . They cant be enviromentally friendly if they dont know to manage a company efficiently.

Ebico/SSE customer, problem-free, for a decade - then....
RH sent Faked readings to SSE (3 months of trouble + compensation from SSE).
Paid their 1st quarterly Bill - immediately received another (showing the payment already made) for the same 3months - different readings...attempting to charge twice-over!
Ebico only employed 7 staff. RH must be a Sweetshop setup: - the Regulators should get involved.

Ebico are the only utility company I could find who do not have a standing charge for gas. As someone who does not use gas, I switched immediately as why should I pay for something I don't use? You don't pay line rental if you haven't got a phone...why should gas be any different?! It's pure greed by the energy companies, so it's nice to see a company like Ebico operating with morals.

The online interface looks a bit shabby, but the important thing is that it works well. It's easy to submit readings. They also respond quickly to Facebook enquiries and emails.

Appalling company; simply ignores communications regarding incorrect bills; eventually responds after 4 months of trying to sort things out with '...we've been busy...' and still does not address the billing errors. I've now switched. DON'T SIGN UP WITH THEM.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced (by a long way). I've been trying to remove a redundant electricity meter from my account for nearly 6 months and ten long phone calls and a property visit later and they are still charging me for a meter that doesn't exist!

They used to be a good company, but lately have been utterly useless: incorrect billing, set on wrong tariff. They don't fix respond to complaint letters and I've had to take my issues to the Ombudsman Service. I think that says it all.

By the looks of the customer service reviews, the Covid lockdown hitting after the switch to 'Robin Hood' (RHE) seems to have ruined all parties concerned.
I always had accurate, prompt bills from feeding my readings in to their website. They even sent me a 'paid bill' for landlord's records / paper trail.
Could be people who got thru to RHE and not Ebico, had a duff experience?

I have been with Ebico for 18 months and now my contract is coming to an end. I've not decided if I will stay with them but I can honestly say they have been the cheapest energy provider I have ever used. I refuse to pay by DD so pay on receipt of bill. This way I control when I pay them and not the other way around. I have economy 7 so provide a day and night rate and once got these mixed up and they called me to say my bill was too high and could I recheck the readings. As with anything, if you have a bad experience with something it doesn't mean the company is no good, it's just your personal opinion.

This company apparently strive to get things right ... evidently not, they over charged me for 2 months gas in the middle of summer, took 5 phone calls to get them to eventually understand what I was telling them and it s still ongoing, promise to ring back to discuss the complaint and never do just send a letter despite specifically asking for a phone call being promised twice they would and still don t, I always seem to get the company idiot on the phone who doesn t seem to know what they are talking about, avoid like the damn plague ! My tariff expires shortly so now's the time to find a company that is able to let me have a proper bill without a load of hassle each time!! Hands down, by far, the worst customer support I have ever experienced.

I won't even go into the majority of the problems I have with Ebico, instead, I will just describe one phone call with Paula from their resolutions team. Having had a complaint escalated to her because the initial member of their CS team couldn't understand what I was asking (this person seemed okay but grossly undertrained) she gave me a call to resolve my complaint.

She started the call completely unaware of what my complaint was despite there being a very clear email chain where I'd outlined it twice. I tried to explain it to her but instead, she kept repeatedly talking over me getting very defensive that I would have an issue with Ebico's service. She made many claims that weren't true - we hadn't submitted a metre reading in time, our monthly payments were now set at an amount that would clear our debt within 3 months, etc. - and when I asked her to check the system showing that what she was saying wasn't correct she became even more aggressive. The whole experience was quite bizarre. She said so many things I found to be unbelievable but here are a few:
- "Yes, your plan is quite misleading, to be honest"
- "You can't just use all the electricity you want, you know!"

- "If you didn't understand something you should have phoned us, that's what we're here for, to explain" *asks her to explain it now* "I haven't got time to read through all this and explain it to you!"
- *After 30 mins, I said I didn't feel we were going to get a resolution on this call so was going to have to go* "No, you're not going to get a resolution from me!"
- "You'll get a final statement from us and you can leave. I'm not going to do anything to help."

Suffice to say, we have now left.

I chose Ebico, paying more money than I could have elsewhere because of the mission they describe on their website. Being a not-for-profit and supporting those in fuel poverty. When I joined I really bought into the idea and was so enthusiastic about them.

Now that I've left I would advise everyone to stay away from them. Misleading website, contract and onboarding information and generally the worst customer support I've ever received.

Been with them for the past 2 years. When they swapped from SSE to Robin Hood energy their customer service went downhill fast. My last bill was twice what it should of been because they charged me for 6 months instead of 3 and it was like pulling teeth to get it sorted and I received no apology. If you use very little gas like me, you will save money with their no surcharge tariff, but God help you if anything serious goes wrong.

Seems to be a blame game going on with the regulator, but has given the opportunity to add standing charges to Zero tariff, however, you can get no standing charge moving to a different tariff, but price per kwh goes up. Then to cap it all, they offer best deals by going direct debit. Still, after all that for me, they're one of the cheapest. Just shows what happens when the private sector moves in and starts putting out multipe tariffs, and becoming more confusing, just like mobile phones a few years ago. To my mind Ofgem don't appear to be working in the consumers favour. All my opinion, of course.

They provide power, but they keep sending me letters saying "You missed a letter from us, you need to pay us this money" which is fine, but you can't pay them without a magic number printed on the previous letter that you can't find or never got. Very annoying, and pointless as they send you the amount on the reminder letter. Help me help you, Ebico.

Been with them now for 5 years on PAYG electricity...

Been with them now for 5 years on PAYG electricity and never had a problem. Paying no standing charge and price of 14.01 pence per unit. Slightly more per unit but as no standing charge really end up saving. The amount of extra electricity I use more than covers the cost of the standing charge, so to me that is free electricity.

Must admit though, I had no idea they had uncoupled from SSE and were now partnered with Robin Hood. If they increase the tarriff I am paying I will consider moving to another company but in all fairness, I think the other companies are the rip off. If Ebico can supply with no standing charge with a rate that is about 1 pence more than some of the big boys, then they, the big boys, are ripping off the customer left, right and centre.

Swapped from Southern Electric, who introduced a standing charge that penalised low usage users. Ebico handled the swap of suppliers for both my gas and electricity without any fuss or complication.
My bills have now dropped by around 40% and their website and payment is simple and functional. If you're a low usage energy user then I couldn't recommend Ebico enough.

I'm trying to be open-minded about Ebico, but looking back to the time I switched Energy to this company, today I believe I had been taken advantage of, for them to survive their business.

I switched to Ebico through the Energy Saving Club. At that time I did not know they were going through a new changeover with a different major supplier. I read their website and felt reassured they seem to understand people in the same boat as me. How wrong I was! They profit from me, and I gained further loss. I work hard full time on a poverty wage and support children, alone.

Been with Ebico for years and have found them to be the best provider around. Paying my bill / meter readings online, makes life simple - I also love that I get my bills via letter.

At first I had a decent experience. Switching was easy, and prices for my usage was low. There is now a list of failures I have for them. They did all of this:

Cancel my direct debit without my knowledge.

Fail to respond any question via the customer service email with anything longer than a single sentence.

When switching away from them, they didn't ask for a final meter reading, or even acknowledge that I was leaving.

I would steer clear, unless you are willing to make one off payments for your usage. Absolutely useless.

By far the worst company I have ever dealt with.

By far the worst company I have ever dealt with.
I closed my account two months ago and although I provide them with the final readings the company just decided to ignore them. I have been chased by a debt collector agency due to the incompetence of this company to provide an accurate bill. Phoned them several times, send them emails and send messages through my account containing pictures of the final readings. Still, they decided to provide a bill with an estimate; obviously, in their favour. The customer service guy even dared to say to me that it was all my fault because I didn t give them the proper readings. Unbelievable.
I was persuaded by their non-standing charge tariffs and non-for-profit company, but to be honest it is not that cheap depending on the amount of energy you use. Moreover, you will lose more money on phone calls, wasted time and debt collectors just because they decided to make up the final readings.
My strong advice, avoid this company at all cost; and don t post reviews just because the switching went smoothly. It is always going to be a smooth transition; the problem is to get out.

I was with Ebico for around 6 months after choosing them based on their ethics and commitment to tackling fuel poverty. Unfortunately though the level of customer service was substandard and seemingly disjointed. Ebico is operating a confidence trick. The company told me that it would charge significantly less than my current energy supplier, so I switched and took out a direct debit for the amount that Ebico had estimated that I should pay. Then after a period Ebico said it had underestimated my use and that I was now in arrears and owed them much more, even though I was paying on a Direct Debit which they had calculated. It is a scam please be warned, I have now switched to get away from them.

Joined in 2006 and had no trouble for some time. I...

Joined in 2006 and had no trouble for some time. I was paying my electric and gas bills a month apart and they switched it to them both arriving at the same time without notice, but other than that, fine, and I liked the ethical approach. The SSE to Robin Hood switch was poorly handled and I did go with SSE but soon came back once they changed my tariff from what I was promised.

I've always been happy to stick with them because I liked the thought of an ethical provider, but when I'm sitting with the heating off and they're still predicting a bill of 8-900 a year, I decided to compare. Just started a move to another company with an estimate of 400. I was shocked to see how uncompetitive they are.

Also had problems since I switched to a smart meter, the electric one stopped sending readings after the first two months and they still haven't fixed it. I wasn't told it was broken in the first place, and get very little feedback on the process of fixing it, even when I chase. The call centre staff seem to know less than I do about it. I've read the meter more since it went smart than I've ever done before, and the in home display doesn't even acknowledge the meter exists. I was told to 'put it in a drawer' because though the gas side still works, the reported money figures are wildly innacurate for the usage.

I was promised I could pay by variable monthly direct debit based on the automatic readings, then they took a quarterly bill by DD instead, on a totally different day to the one I selected. I manually read and entered the readings the whole time it wasn't working because I was expecting monthly billing to start. When I rang to ask how they would bill me each month as the meter still wasn't responding, they told me they don't actually do a variable monthly DD at all! Good job I found out before they took a whole quarter winter bill without warning!

Finally, I emailed them a couple of days ago to ask why all my estimates for the tariffs they were offering me were so high compared to my annual statement, still not had a response.

It's a real shame, but I'm off.

*Update* They apparently don't do monthly billing, but I just received a monthly bill. The dates on it bear no relation to my original requested payment date, or to the read date of the one working meter. It also contains far lower estimates for the next year than their own tariff switching page. Shambles. Still no answer to my email or any information about the meter fix.

FURTHER UPDATE

FURTHER UPDATE
Ebico ignores its own Terms & Conditions in order to justify trying to overcharge you. Not only are the staff of this company unintelligent, argumentative and totally lacking in common sense, but they indulge in unethical and legally-dubious practices, to which the company owner, Phil Levermore, turns a blind eye. It has to be asked whether Mr Levermore is a fit and proper person to run an energy company.

AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE
UPDATE TO THE REVIEW BELOW THE LINE
My account being in credit, and the estimated annual consumption having been revised downwards, Ebico decided that I needed to increase my monthly payments by 25%. Work that one out!
Their customer service staff are argumentative, impolite and have about as much intelligence as the average gnat. No! Less!
Oh, and they also tell lies, such as, if your monthly direct debit payment has been reviewed and increased you can only go back to the previous amount if your circumstances have changed.
This company should be investigated by Ofgem.
_____________________________________________________________________
These people are clowns. They set your monthly direct debit payments according to the average amount of energy you look likely to use each month over a year, then, at the end of winter, they say "You're using more than we thought you would, we're putting up your payments" without taking into account that you've just passed through the coldest, darkest months of the year. So, what happens then? Your energy usage goes down during the summer, but your monthly payments have gone up, so at the end of summer you have a big credit on your account (i.e. an interest-free loan to Ebico), whereas, if the payments hadn't been changed you'd end the summer with pretty close to a nil balance. They can't work this one out, they're too stupid.

Been with this company for some years now, and found them very efficient at handling any enquiry I have made. The transition from the partnership with SSE to Robin Hood has not diminished their abilities and core values. As a pensioner on a lower income than some on benefits sI see their not having a standing charge was a real benefit. The standing charge with other companies was actually greater some days than the electricity I consumed! All round winners for me, and I would recommend folk to think seriously about their tariffs when choosing a new company to move to.

EBICO IS PURE CANCER. When billing reverted back to them from Southern, they started the scam of ignoring customer readings and sending inflated estimated bills instead. They ignored several complaint letters from me, then eventually came up with various excuses eg they lied and claimed I never provided a reading. I did and my phone call log proves it. They deny the call ever happened! But funnily enough all their bills actually show the customer reading and the date received and then use an inflated estimated reading instead. I detest LIARS. Based on reviews here I see they are pulling the same scam on others. They also block your IP address if you leave a factual review. Suggest Ebico staff spend less time stalking aggrieved customers online and address service failures instead. Will be switching suppliers after 10 years, way to go Ebico if you want to alienate customers and lose business! It's the dishonesty that really gets me.

Falsely inflated bills when they ignored my readings and made up estimates, absolutely no response to any of my complaints. Think they are about to go bust, don't give them any money because you wont be able to recover it when they go under. I am switching supplier and suggest you avoid these cowboys.

One of the best providers and non profit company. Love their 0 standing charge tariff. They also have very good customer service, never had to wait for connection longer than 3 minutes (apart from short time when they were switching their partnership from SSE to Robin Hood and there was mix up with prices). Been with them for 2 years now, including flat change, and had no issues.
