Poor place to live at. Company just wants there rent and refuse to put money back into buildings fix anything
I rented from Dwelling Place at their New Hope Homes on the Southwest side for 4 years and cannot say enough good things about the property and the company. Dwelling Place provides mostly reduced/subsidized housing, so even some of the community's poorest members like myself can have a beautiful home. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Anytime I needed to put in a work order, maintenance staff was able to resolve the issues in a timely manner. Grounds and common areas are kept clean and very well maintained. Most properties, including mine, include central air and other modern appliances. Honestly I wish I could've lived here longer, however I was forced to move out of state for family purposes. If I do move back to Grand Rapids I would definitely consider renting from one of the Dwelling Place's properties again, and would strongly recommend it to others.
I was trying to get help in finding reasonable housing but they were not very helpful except to give me a couple of papers to look else where...
I moved into Roosevelt Apartments in Muskegon Heights and have copd. My neighbors smoke and have continued to smoke in their apartment for an entire year.
By far one of the most corrupt multi-family housing providers in Michigan.
The Ferguson Apts are horrible. Don't apply. They inspect your room monthly if not more for Hud& pest inspections while completely invading your privacy. No permission required for staff they just meander on in(no other apartment does it this frequently).
No oven-try cooking a turkey in your toaster oven. It doesn't workout well. tiny fridge, small rooms, peeling wallpaper in hallways. It's embarrassing to have a guest see!
The tenants are more embarrassing than anything else. If your morally incompetent neighbor disapproves of you in some way get ready to have your wall turned into their personal drum or hours of yelling.
Hopefully this will help you make a informed decision about which apartment not to pursue.
They live their motto " everyone deserves a dwelling place"
(( DO NOT APPLY AT FERGUSON! ITS A HEALTH DEPT NIGHTMARE! MNGMT(BRANDY) DOES NOTHING ABOUT ANY PROBLEM HERE))
The Building Rules Policy is awful for the residents, at least at FERGUSON APARTMENTS. For example, if you report an ongoing problem with another resident they will tell the other person who wrote them up and then, conveniently you get a bad write up on your record as well. They do this so that when you've finally had enough of the drunken, mentally challenged screaming, hitting their walls like they're off their medication residents. You can't! Because you have a bad record for no good reason.
Whoever came up with their rules had a learning disability. NICE PAINT JOB GUYS! NOW THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT CAN SEE THE MOLD ON THE WALLS! DON'T APPLY@FERGUSON
Gives good information list of all the apartments 36 plus have applications to apply
Great income based housing. Caring people with a great support staff.
Suppose to be here to help ppl ... manager of Perter leimn apts .. very rude..and evicting my daughter and her baby for rent thats due this month..Smh heartlesss
Not a help nasty and rude and love to discriminate and blackball low income and homeless persons, does not help the community unless your a young child having children out of wedlock with no good young boys or a drug addict or alcoholic.
Dwelling Place
For the past 40 years, Dwelling Place has been providing affordable housing across Grand Rapids and West Michigan. What started as a single housing community in the Heartside Neighborhood of Grand Rapids has now grown to more than 1400 rental units across 4 different counties.
Dwelling Place continues to address the needs of the community including a variety of innovative affordable housing options, over 100,000 square feet of rental retail space, and community leadership programming like resident-led gardens.
In fact, this year Dwelling Place launched their Regional Community Land Trust to bring affordable home ownership options to West Michigan. The CLT will include the transformation of several existing Dwelling Place housing communities and will continue to expand, creating home ownership options for low and moderate income families.
