This train ride was such a fun way to spend a morning! We'd been once before when they did a murder mystery and loved it so much we couldn't resist going back. It is an experience full of history and beautiful scenery. I wish they'd do more murder mystery rides. Plus there was some random guy that would follow the train along the tracks, much to our surprise, to wave at the people riding it. They have a charming museum dedicated to the railway as well. Fun for all ages!

We did the Polar express trip in December and the kids loved the whole experience. The actors played the roles really well and they offered hot chocolate on the ride, which we all loved. Unfortunately there wasn t any snow when we went and the whole area where the train supposedly arrives to the north pole didn t feel like north pole, the lights where very nice and the kids really enjoyed it.

Durango and Silverton train ride in Silverton Colorado.....don t book this train ride. They will not refund your money. When I booked this they do not tell you about there cancellation policy. I booked this trip two days in advance and tried to cancel less than 24 hrs after I booked. The clerk nor the supervisor care if you make this trip or not. They wanted me to reschedule up to six months I told them I preferred the refund. It was their company policy NO REFUNDS!!! They didn t care about any reason for the cancellation whether it would be a death in family, car accident etc. They don t care if you re a Veteran or not. All they care about is the money. They re business practices are unethical business practices.

This is what makes Durango so special. The train is very cool for kids of all ages. It shows how tough our people are for settling here in Durango and making such a difficult path to Silverton. The museum is awesome. The train is awesome. The people that we talk to at the station, museum, and workshop are always friendly and kind.

Small museum containing a few locomotives but mostly memorabilia from their heydey. Unable to go into the yard to view remainder without a tour. Boxcars sit within easy view but maybe is missing the availability to see workshops & operational equipment. Bi much prefer Ely, Nevada's museum.

Super fun and great experience to ride on a coal burning train. It is a little rough to ride in the rain and have smoke blown in your face for 4 hours but it was great fun and a wonderful memory.

Museum was great. Lots of interesting things to look at for kids and adults. Traffic yard tour was also really interesting. My 9 year old and even 4 year old kept their interest the whole hour.

Five Star experience! Maria our hostess in Yankee car was amazing! So knowledgeable and has me ready to come back at different times of the year! Such a stunning ride up to Cascade Canyon where it was snowing like crazy! ! Loved it!!

I went during July 2020. At that time, they were only running a 2 hour train ride from their Rockwood station which is an easy 15 minute drive north of Durango. I was told there had been a previous mudslide somewhere which had damaged some of the track, so that was all that they were running. When I booked the ticket, I was originally concerned that maybe the section of track we would run would not be the best section. I couldn't have been more wrong. Immediately after leaving you are on a high cliff seeing the river down below with amazing scenery and it is like that the entire trip. Due to social distancing, they do not fully book each car so you have plenty of room to move around and switch sides if the view is better on another side. Plus, you can now easily fit in other activities in your day. Doing the train will not take an entire day. Perfect trip. Would recommend to everyone.

Well, we planned this trip a year ago, and out of seven days on the road, five of them had activities planned. Thursday being the last day, on the train to silverton. Great day for a ride through a picturesque mountain pass. Nope!! About 4mi out of town the engine broke! At least we weren t on a plane we had to be towed back into the station. I don t think we ll be doing this again for a while. Kind of a bummer at least the hot drinks were nice and the blanket warm

Great place to visit. Very nice. HO train display is very nice. The employee inside was very nice and helpful. Very knowledgeable. The management however is lacking. While we were there and as people were walking up they told them to close early. The people walking up said that on the train and in the literature they are supposed to close at 7pm. The man working there said he got an email stating to close early. I guess management wanted to go home early. Obviously customer relations means nothing to them.

Exciting, scenic and a lot of fun on this train. Never a moment passes without some incredible views. We enjoyed touring through their open and closed cars, the snack area, and back again. (Reminiscent of our childhood enjoyments).

The trip on this train was amazing. We did the full trip to Silverton and back. Paid Parking was easy. There is a McDonald's next to the train station and they let you bring food and drinks on to the train. Make reservations before you go. You will not regret this trip, worth the money, kids love it, and we had great time. Staff was amazing. Lots of History, make sure you visit the museum located behind and across from the train station.

Beautiful tour. I enjoyed the breathtaking views. Tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable.
My only complaint is that we were shorten about an hour total.
We should have arrived at Silverton at 1:00pm . We got to Silverton at 1:40pm.
30 minutes that I could have seen more things.
When leaving we didn't leave until 3:37pm instead of 3pm.
On the way back , another train had technical difficulties, in which that is understandable.
But while the staff was hooking the other cabooses. They could have let us to do a bit more shopping or sightseeing . We were waiting sitting 37 minutes while the staff did all that.
Overall...the Silverston train ride was wonderful.
Worth to take it again.

We took the train from Durango to Cascade. The views were absolutely stunning, and our car attendant, Ellie, was great. She was extremely personable and knowledgable about not only the history of the area towns, but being a former geologist, gave excellent information about the mountains and river as we passed through it all without being overbearing and long winded.
Our trip even had the option to stop and cut your own Christmas tree, which we did not add as we flew from out of town, but it is an amazing opportunity that just adds to the experience. We're already planning another trip back to Durango during the summer and taking the train all the way to Silverton.

We did the Polar Express experience this year for the first time. It was amazing 5/5 highly recommend. The staff was energetic, and brought great cheer to the train ride. The kids loved seeing Santa in the North Pole. Also the women in our car, "Chef Snickerdoodle", had some great jokes.

This was an amazing experience. We took the train up and back down. If you are interested in saving time you can take the bus either up or back. The best views are on the right side of the train going to Silverton or the left side of the train going to Durango. They turn the whole train around at Silverton so you will see both sides of you take the round trip.

The price is high but still worth the steam train ride, especially in the fall. VERY beautiful scenery so don't forget that camara!!! Silverton is a very small little town but lots to see before the train ride back to Durango. Would definitely do it again! Also when in Silverton, remember the altitude is above 9,000 feet so if from a lower elevation, take it easy.

My wife and I were here first part of April 2019 on our honeymoon. By far one of our favorite stops. Arron, our tour guide on the night sky car, went out of his way to make our trip memorable. The train was still running on their winter hours and we only went halfway. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND TAKE AN EXTRA DAY FOR THIS RIDE.
