Much cooler than the history books make it seem like. John Brown's Raid is the main thing, but there is a lot more there than that. Like the fact that: Meriwether Lewis stopped here before his famed westward trip, there was a civil war battle fought there, and that Thomas Jefferson touted the area for its natural beauty. Loved it!

So check out my review on AllTrails, basically best parking is usually taken up, so get street parking in the city. Plan with the free alltrails app and get their map. From the train bridge, there's a fence gate to go down to reach the MD heights loop, you DO NOT GO IN THE TUNNEL to access Maryland heights.

The rangers are knowledgeable and friendly. Tons of good hiking trails. The working railroad that runs through the park is cool too. Just wait a bit and you'll be rewarded with a train going by

Such an interesting place take the tour bus down to the town and stroll through the beautiful streets, be sure to eat lunch in one of the restaurants, see the train go through the walk-through tunnel. Maybe even go whitewater rafting

We found the staff to be very friendly and extremely helpful! Take the bus tour to Harper's Ferry as it relieves the traffic and parking issues! Plan at least an hour or more if you choose to have a meal. The upper parts of the town would be difficult for disabled or elderly with ambulation issues but there is plenty to do and see for all!

Just spoke to a park rep on the phone who was extremely unhelpful. Guess they don't want visitors this season :/. Thanks ranger Dave.

Many of these reviews are for the town, but this is literally for the visitors center. So it's $20 for parking which is plentiful. The shuttle isn't being operated during COVID, which is annoying as the walk to the town from the lot is okay. But all downhill. Retuning is much more strenuous. I'm assuming. We ended up taking an Uber back to the lot after walking around the town and over the bridge.

It was nice it was clean informing you just kind of made it hard to get into because it's time that you're talkin about and celebrating I was still considered property

Knowledgable staff. Lots of parking. Admission but senior pass avail. You park and catch the bus to the town. Numerous small restaurants. Museums. Check the industrial enclave of Virginius Island with water power as a utility. Gets crowded.
Federal armoury, and site of John Brown's raid. Bookshops, stores, and museums.

Small park shop. Not really that useful except that they offer a free shuttle to downtown area where parking is a hassle. Park here, ride down and back.

The national park and the trails are open to public even after 5 pm. We arrived late, around 5.30 pm and walked around for about an hour. Trails along the river are cool and well shaded by large trees. Highly recommended for a hot summer day. You can get into the water from several access points. Great spot for a picnic and swim. Historical buildings are cool, great for photography.

Great place to walk around and learn some of the history of the local area. Shuttle bus will take you from the upper lot down into town, great on a hot day! Walking tours are available, museums as well as several places to get food.

I've visited Harpers Ferry several times over the last 40 years. It's in a beautiful spot overlooking the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, and is full of 19th century history.

Love Harpers Ferry. However, most of the historical sites are gone. I was there 40 years ago, then brought my grandchildren a few weeks ago. NOT the same place. I have a theory but won't share it here. The ranger guided tour was outstanding but mostly talk since sites are not there anymore.

Park at the visitors center and take the free shuttle to town. There's a lot to see in town. Almost every building has a small exhibit on the history of the area. There are also a bunch of gift shops and small restaurants.
