A great place for kids. They have a lot of informative and interactive exhibits that kept our 4th graders' attention. Our kids wanted to stay longer. The Cool Stuff exhibit was very popular with them.
Wonderful science museum that kids love but is fun for adults too. Aside from being fun, it is also great for learning. It also features a full IMAX theater. Membership for a year is fairly inexpensive and definitely the way to go if you plan to visit a couple of times a year.
It was our first time at discovery place and we had a blast. We were there for 2 1/2 hours and didn t even get to second floor. Definitely going back again in the near future. I would highly recommend this for all ages. They have a beautiful aquarium activities for kids of all ages
Really a fun place. I didn t know what to expect. Kids and adults seemed to enjoy and we even bought a bag of bug chips to eat. We had the crickets! Our tickets were very cheap through school so we didn t have to pay full price. It s worth the time. Budget the trip and go.
Smaller than some science centers we have visited in the past, this one still entertained (and educated) adults and our kids for 4 hours. Surprisingly, this place had some different aquatic creatures than some of the large aquariums we had visited in years past.
The shows were entertaining and engaging, especially the Musical Tesla Coil. Facilitated by two talented actors, they had the audience singing along to popular music generated by the Tesla Coil cracking the nearby air molecules. Definitely worth checking this out!
My kids and I love it here. The only downside is the cost. You have to pay for parking as well as the admission. Other than that it's definitely a great place to take your kids, even younger ones. My 4 year old and twin 3 year olds love it.
Way better and larger museum than I thought. Worth visiting if you re curious. The exhibits have plenty of interesting and interactive stuff to play with.
This place is cool for kids under 10 i think the price is too much ..you can go on groupon for great discounts. Its pretty clean and the staff is really nice. Very informative.
As a family with both young and a teenager, this was worth a visit! We did not visit the IMAX but did pay extra for the Lego room (which is where our kids spent the most time). Having been to so many museums of this type, I'd put this toward the top, but that being said, these places tend to be about the same for our family. The under-7 area was one of the better ones I've seen, spacious and bright with so much to do for the littler kids. We were impressed with the aquarium and rain forest exhibits. The cafe had a nice variety of items. Overall, a lovely visit.
Lots of interactive exhibits for kids and adults. Small aquarium downstairs. 3 story atrium with some cool tropical plants. Very educational. Worth the price for a few hours
Love this place deapite the insane amount of money needed to enjoy. Roughly $100 for me and my 2 sons to enjoy the facility for the day, including $12 for parking, $35 on food in the cafe and $50+ on entry tickets.
BUMMED the water table was broken = #1 attraction and draw for my 3 year old. You would think a popular exhibit like that would be operating and not "out of order" due to the high costs to come in and enjoy facilities.
I will return and hope the water table is up and running.
We showed up with only an hour left to explore , luckily, all we had to do was show our wristbands and the next day we could still have all day access which I thought was great. The Davinci exhibit was amazing. I do wish the kids there were more respectful and timed on their activities or something. The children we rude, but the discovery Place science is an amazing place to go that's always fun and full of surprises.
The live animal collection and biology exhibits go beyond what is typical for a children's science museum. I felt it seemed quieter (thankfully) than similar locations. The cafe had higher prices than I would have liked, but offered higher-end food options.
The building was much smaller than I thought it would be. It does not have a lot of exhibits and the ones they do have is minimal. The butterfly exhibit was nice. I enjoyed the quarter mile nature trail even though we did not find any of the items on the guide. The planetarium shows definitely needs to be updated. The facility has free parking, it's clean and was pretty empty so those were definitely a plus for me. The kids enjoyed the story time, puppet show and all the exhibit. The museum was a 3 overall for me but the kids had fun so I gave it 4 stars.
There are 3 floors, but we went on a Saturday and almost every square inch of the place was crowded. What makes it unique as opposed to any random Science museum is that they have a pretty decent sized rain forest "theater" and aquarium. The store was a bit expensive, but the entrance at $24 was a fair price for a couple of hours of engaging fun.
Very cool spot. Loved hearing about the octopus... It was super busy with a lot of field trips, maybe? But, I enjoyed myself. A neat little space to wander around. Lots of things to touch and explore.
Great for kids. Educational and fun. Awesome exhibits, worth the price. Save some money for the gift shop because they have awesome merchandise. My kids loved it!
So much fun. We went as part of a school group. There were many activities, some self-learning, but my favorite part was the classes that were instructor led. You could easily spend many hours there, but we only had around 3 as it was a one day trip.
All discovery places in charlotte have what is called the welcome program. If you have ebt (food stamps) or WIC it is only 1 dollar to get in. And its 4 bucks off parking as well. And its good for up to 6 people per card. This is a great program for kids who may otherwise not have the chance to visit due to their families being low income. My family was really appreciative to be able use these resources.
A great place to take the kids to have fun and learn! Price just for the museum part is $19 per adult and since my child is under one, they are free to get in. They have different sections to explore (3 different floors)! Can't wait to return when my child is a little older to really enjoy.
Such a fun place for the family. We went on a Saturday and it was busy. Had to wait in line for a lot of the activities. Lots to look at and good for all ages. Bug exhibit did require additional tickets. Would recommend for anyone with children. Top floor was not for us and was very unorganized with not much to do but the first two floors were great. Also you may want to check online before you go because they have a lot of daily activities like the fire show and labs that are included in the admission price scheduled throughout the day.
Love the IMAX movie theater! And my 12 year old and 9 year old had fun watching the aquarium. Being involved in the creative play, hands on with the starfish, and the iguana!
Was a fantastic place for the kids to explore and play and learn. I didn't have to keep telling them"don't touch that!" since many things were supposed to meet interacted at by curious hands. The IMAX movie was a big hit. The food in the eatery downstairs was surprisingly good too!
Excellent place if you want to have your baby upset and cry! we decided to brave the pandemic and give this place a shot. Unfortunately, they wouldn't allow our toddler to have a tiny snack inside. We asked if we could have a snack outside and come back in. Seeing as we paid almost $60 for a couple of people to enter, this seemed pretty reasonable. However, we were told that we were not allowed to leave and re-enter So, essentially there was no way to get a tired, crying baby a snack. Not a great way to treat your customers.
Made a daytrip down from Durham bye train to visit. It's a fun place for the kids, but multiple stations were out of service. Tough to stomach the total price of admission when you don't get the full experience.
Love taking my kids here! It can get expensive BUT for Parents who receive Food and Nutritional Services or your children receive Medicaid, Please bring your cards and ID and each person gets in for ONLY $1 each...so for myself and my 2 kids we get in for $3 and that's it! This awesome deal works at ANY Discovery Place location too!!!!
So much fun! The new Antarctic Dinosaur exhibit is a must see! This place is great to educate kids in a fun a d visual way! Highly recommend the membership!
Awesome place to keeps the kids entertained. Science stations, interactive exhibits and hands on activities. This will only build on ones intrigue. My only issue is the immediate danger to felines. If you bring your cats here they will be massacred on site, not by violence, but their curiosity. The lack of warning sign for cats is disturbing.
Lots of fun activities and things to see for children. Geared more towards the eight to 14 year old range. A couple more water fountains would have been nice instead of having to constantly track back to one side of the museum. Leaving the parking deck can be a hassle with only one exit.
This was our first visit, but it won't be our last. The lady at the front desk said over 800 school kids were there on field trips, but there was still plenty of space for us to discover mostly everything. The labs were closed due to the school kids, but I now know to call ahead and plan for days the labs will be open. My grandkids didn't notice that they missed anything because they stayed entertained for over 6 hours.
I visited this place for a field trip, and the whole time, I was always doing something fun. There are some awesome exhibits, and you can even lay on a bed of nails! Real cool place that me and my friends created some pretty cool memories. Have fun here!
We take our kids here regularly. They love it all. The dinosaur exhibit they have right now is really cool for kids and adults. So much fun! Highly recommend.
Very educational. My husband and I spent a few hours here. It is really informative and contains more activities than the average kids museum. Definitely was impressed. My favorite part was definitely the rain forest.
Extremely helpful, friendly & patient staff . Very accommodating as I had two kids in tow & one was not yet two years old. Great quality IMAX theater movie. The LEGO wing of displays was huge & activity was very engaging for all ages with tables arranged for all to work on their LEGO masterpieces. There was a table for guests well developed LEGO creations to be displayed. Table layout design was very well thought out. Plenty of scientific areas with microscopes & scientists to boot! An interesting variation of frogs were also on display with an entire area carved out just for them although the frogs were a challenge to find in their natural habitats at times. Additionally, a few of the staff members at the store were very helpful & showed me the exact toy we were looking for along with the option of sizes the toy came in. The small theater that usually houses nice a imitation movies was closed which was a HUGE disappointment . Hence the 4 stars rather then 5. Also. a gentle suggestion is that announcements of the establishment closing should be mentioned 45 minutes ahead of time, as opposed to 1/2 hour ahead of time to avoid the mad dash for hundreds of people heading to the restrooms, rounding up kids, family & friends, and everyone heading for the doors at once. Otherwise. intriguing time with plenty to do & see of a fun- filled time for the entire family!
Usually not too busy The staff is helpful. Love this place! Good big facility! You can get everything you want here. Great place to go for the whole family.
My family really had a great time at Discovery Place. My boys are 5 and 3 years old and they had a blast! Everything is so intriguing and hands on. It really encouraged them to explore and want to stay for hours! We're from Raleigh, so this was a nice little day trip. It's located downtown near everything! We will be back!
We had a great time at the Discovery Place. The price of admission was reasonable. You do have to pay to park if you use the adjoining parking garage. Also, the iMax and Bug Lab exhibit are an additional charge. The facility is well kept and designed and is appropriate for all ages. You can easily spend hours exploring here. Our only bad experience was with the Curiocity Cafe. It took 30 minutes to get our food and it was missing a salad. It then took an additional 15 minutes (a total of 45 mins.) To get the salad. We almost missed our iMax and had to settle for terrible seats. Other than this, we had a good experience. If you plan to eat an ordered meal at the cafe, be sure to account for an hour.
This place was GREAT! Wow so fun and so educational. The staff is great! I learned so much here as well as my kids! They had super cool educational experiments, I enjoyed this place just as much as an adult! We have planned to go here every other weekend. They also have an amazing comfort room for moms and babies! What a neat place this is! The food was good as well though their large hot chocolate was super small and taste watered down, which stunk because I love hot chocolate but everything else definitely made up for that!
Excellent, educational hands-on museum for kids (and adults honestly) of all ages. Plentiful exhibits including an aquarium, educational IMAX dome theater, a literal rainforest, human anatomy lab, and tons of tactile scientific play areas that kids can play with and learn about physics while doing it. Cant recommend enough, advise getting a membership as entry fees, parking, and food add up quickly.
Great place of learning for kids (and adult honestly) whether your child is scientifically oriented or not, they will surely learn a lot here. Whether physics or life sciences, they've got it covered. And the learning is fun and interactive. Great for a field trip or a day with family
Awesome place I take my kids to almost every week! Have a member pass so it s worth it. My only complaint would be that I wish they disinfected the kids toys more than once a week, especially during flu season. But there s always friendly staff and someone coming around to check on things on the kids water room!
Discovery Place was meh, at best. We've always visited this museum when in Charlotte, but this time it was a bit disappointing. At one point, all 4 of my kids said "I'm bored"..... They desperately need new attractions that don't cost extra to visit!
Discovery Place is a pretty cool museum. It's informative and hands-on. If you don't like being around a lot of kids, they have a monthly program called "Science on the Rocks," which is when adults 21+ can explore the museum on a Friday night and they serve alcohol as well. There's something for everyone!
Not worth the money. I spent 74.50 1 adult, 2 children including the dinosaur exhibit which was mostly written information on fossils. We got some cool dinosaur pictures at the end. Again not worth the money
This place is nice but definitely not worth the money they charge per person. It should be half that amount. We're from Raleigh and our children's museum has alot of exhibits similar to this one and it's only $5 to get in plus everywhere in downtown Raleigh on the weekends is free to park in the garages. Parking in Charlotte is ridiculously expensive. We paid $25 just for this day.
Great family adventures and learning activities can be had here. There are areas for all ages. From a bed of nails to an air cannon there is something for everyone. Highly recommend. My family was there for 3 hours and we didn't get to everything.
This is a wonderful place for children and adults! There is lost track of time! Educational place! I recommend it to everyone! And do not forget to look at the store for souvenirs)
Very neat and entertaining place for the kids. We were in town for the weekend and spent a good 4 hours inside doing various things with animals and STEM related subjects. Definitely would recommend for families that need to spend a day at a place where the kids will have fun and learn stuff.
Amazing place for all things science! We took our kids here, but the adults had just as much fun. There are many different displays and exhibits to explore, many of which are interactive adding that much to the fun. There are some exhibits are at additional costs, but I'd say they're worth it, provided you have enough time to get through everything. It took us about 2.5 hours just in the general admission portion, without having watched any of the movies.
Visited here with family yesterday. The IMAX theater is a must see. Rest of the things are for kids 10 and younger. We were 12 and older group of 4 and was pretty boredom to walk around. I am sure young kids have a lot to hands on learning there.
Visited the museum this past Saturday & the kids had a great time . They have attractions & activities for all ages. Compared to times in the past the museum had a few more activities & exhibits than I recall in the past. Three floors of exploring, a handful of the exhibits were closed due to covid but there is still plenty to do.. upon entering your temp. is taken & you are to wear a mask durning your visit. This is easily a place that you could spend 3hrs at! The staff was also very kind & friendly .
Arctic dinosaurs display was short and not very informative or interactive. Not worth the wait in lines and price. Perhaps better for older kids versus preschool age.
Amazing place for kids and adults are bound to learn something too. We always spend the ride home talking about different things we saw. This place really gets the wheels turning in their young minds. I wish and hope that all kids have the opportunity to visit a place like this. Staff is always phenomenal with the kids, and allow them to be kids and explore in their own way. They have nature exhibits, marine life, physics, human body, history with dinosaur right now, and so much more. Worth every dime of admission. I honestly saw my daughter interact more here than she did at Disney World.
We absolutely love discovery place! We try to go every month. The T-Rex exhibit was really nice and my daughter really enjoyed it. It was completely worth the small extra fee. We always pack a lunch to eat in the courtyard by the Church but there is a nice cafe with pretty good food.
We took a 9 and 11 year old to discovery place during their school break. They absolutely loved it. They got to experience, science, mechanical, wildlife, among other areas. It wasn't that crowded during the week. We thought the Cuban exhibit was worth the few extra dollars.
Our favorite climate controlled hang out with the kids! We ve been coming here for decades, there is something for every age. Check out the Thinkers Lab on the 3rd floor, it s a hands on, state of the art studio to build & create.
A wonderful science center to visit with or without the kids. You learn some great and interesting things that we take for granted every day. As an added bonus, DPS honored our membership from Orlando science center. No fee if you have a membership from a reciprocal ASTC organization. Staff was very helpful and the exhibits were engaging and we'll kept.
This is such a fun and creative Museum! It is very interactive and a great place to bring your children for a day! Each interactive station has aboard explaining the station and what it does! There's a very cool rainforest section with parrots and other birds and an aquarium downstairs which is small but very interesting. They also have a very nice gift shop with a cool selection! Would definitely come back again!
So much fun. Went here once before on a field trip as a child and spent the night. Wanted to go back since and this certainly did not disappoint. Great for all ages, my mom and I had a blast! Kind staff, very clean, a truly fantastic experience all around.
Forget about eating. Worst experience, the only restaurant it takes 40 minutes for a hot dog or pizza. Because they have an issue with organization or something. For a family is a very unpleasant situation
Absolutely the best attraction in Charlotte and beyond. Fun, engaging exhibits, a dedicated staff, and great features make this a must-do family destination.
We had a blast here! From 10am-4pm closing there was so much to do! They also have events/shows throughout the day so they make announcements to make sure everyone gets a chance to experience it! The food here was also delicious I got a burger with fries and my kids got pizza. The parfait and banana nut bread OMG!! Soooo good! They also have a parking lot behind the place 12$ to park! We saw a movie the screen was from the bottom through the ceiling and all around! It was beautiful great picture and story line we watched the wilderness! We will totally come back if we are staying in town!
This place has a lot of cool stuff for kids. Went about 5 years ago with my boys and just went again. For the most part, it is more directed at the younger ages but still fun. The Lego room is pretty cool, but is temporary.
Great experience. I went with my daughter. We met up with a friend. We didn't stay long. We only visited the first floor but the museum has a lot to offer. Great place for birthday parties.
Talk about exciting. This place has everything. I took the kids because we enjoy hitting every science museum in every city we go to. This and Richmond Virginia are pretty tied for first.
Perfect for a day with young children. Your child will learn about science in an easy to understand way. Staff are all incredibly generous and just nice people. They have an indoor rain Forrest exhibit that is a must see!
Miss USA is that 360 lace front with edge hair Latina hair. proof in the Essence magazine cover #Charmed Italy s soil is repping with meningitis from offspring via black women and Italian men they even had a case over 15 years ago it was on American soil. Same thing with African American mothers since African women is start of the chain
Came here as a date with my gorgeous girlfriend and spent a solid 3 hours! Not just for kids! They have a really cool jungle mini biome room with large birds, frogs, and lizards roaming around. Definitely worth checking out if you like science or animals.
