Discovery Place Science is a great place to bring your children for an interactive, fun learning experience. This place however is not just for children. When I went it was with a group made up of soley adults and we had a blast. There are all different types of exhibits so there is a broad range of different sciences explored. A great place to spend the day if you're looking to do something in Charlotte.

I was trying to check into the IMAX theater since my family had tickets for a show but were told "IMAX hasn't been working all day" when we checked in. Regardless, Discover place is an awesome, hands on experience for all ages. Adults typically "go for the kids" but are just as involved as the kids. There are a ton of exhibits that engaged the brain and educate while playing.

There is food served in the Discovery Place and it is okay but there are tons of food options just out the door. When we go we try to take lunch time as an opportunity to take a break, walk outside and grab a bite and come back to enjoy more.

Really great place for kids and adults who are interested in nature and science. We go a few times a year. The last time we went (Jan 2020) several exhibits were not working properly just from being used and not serviced properly (race car pieces in play area didn't stay connected together, the mechanical system with the beads didn't have enough beads and two of the parts didn't move beads properly, seat belts on the chair lift were missing pieces).

This was our first time to Discovery Place Science...

This was our first time to Discovery Place Science. We didn't have huge expectations because of how altered everything is during this pandemic, but even still, we were a little disappointed. The advance reservation, social distancing, mask requirement, symptom & temp check upon entry were all very well done & greatly appreciated. Kudos to the leadership & staff on that part!
The admission and parking fees seemed a bit exorbitant however, especially considering a lot of the exhibits, activities, and events were closed/shut down. For our small family of 3, we paid ~$70 for maybe 1.5 hours of okay entertainment. We appreciate them limiting capacity, and understand that might drive up the cost of operating. That said, its unlikely our family will return but maybe once every few years on a rainy day. It might be the exact opposite for others though. Its also geared more toward kids in maybe the 5-12yo range, which also could have changed our experience.

I'd recommend finding a metered spot on the street unless you plan on spending more than a few hours there.

If you're considering coming here with a toddler save your money and time until they're a bit older. Most of the exhibits are geared towards older kids and forget giving little ones a snack. No food allowed, and they will not allow you to leave to give your angry toddler a snack and come back in. Furthermore, asking 2-year-olds to wear a mask is nearly impossible even for the best behaved little ones. The CDC doesn't even ask for this until they're 5. Left angry and nearly $60 lighter for our little family of 3.

Discovery Place Science is just what this Doctor ...

Discovery Place Science is just what this Doctor (PhD education) would order to stimulate your child's mind. It offers many varied science experiences, for all ages, including a large number that are interactive. There are also movies and a gift shop. All of which are both educational and highly entertaining. I recommend Discover Place Science for your own family and friends, or out-of-town guests. I took my 5yr old nephew there on a recent visit to Charlotte. He thoroughly enjoyed himself as did us older children. I think you will too!

I've been coming here since I was Young on field trips. I've always enjoyed it. When I got older I started bringing my children here. We always had a blast. Yesterday we went for the first time in a long time and I have to say I was disappointed. All four of my kids were bored within a half hour of getting there. It just doesn't seem the same. Cuba was their exhibit and you had to pay more to get into it. If you didn't then you were left with only half the museum to enjoy. I must say my family and I won't be back. Goodbye Discovery Place. It was fun when it was fun.

5 star all the way! This is a great place for kids and adults alike. I have just as much fun as my tot whenever we go. There's tons to do on the 1st floor including a little aquarium and an imax theater.

Then there's a ton to so upstairs with science shows taking place every 30 minutes. And my favorite (which is new) the bed of nails. Hey don't forget the rain forest. I have no idea how they were able to work that into this place.

I think my favorite part of discovery place is the little cafeteria. Man their food is so good. I usually get the pizza because its one of the best I've had. And I love the root beer. We usually get so caught up on the first 2 floors that we totally forget about all the activities on the 3rd floor. Lol.

This is an awesome place to visit and everyone will have fun and learn.

Rude employees. Particularly three female employees. We went Saturday around 12:30. A lady in green on the bottom floor and two females wearing blue on the top floor were rude to our 3 year old. They directly yelled at him to put his mask up. He s 3! All excited and playing. Mask was bigger than his face and kept slipping despite the green piece they provided. He s jumping and being a kid so of course his mask will slip. Those 3 rude ladies directly yelled at him in our presence instead of addressing it nicely with us! We ended up leaving earlier cause we were uncomfortable staying there. We will not come back and will never recommend this place.

Great place to spend time as a family. Educational and fun for people of ALL ages as you are never too old to learn something new and have fun while learning it. Great hands-on exhibits that are fully functional and not in need of repair. Staff is pleasant and helpful. There is something of interest in science for everyone to explore and enjoy. The last time I brought my family here, my son was 12 years old. Today he is 26 and we had just as much fun today as we did years ago. Highly recommend, especially if you have inquisitive children.

I expected there to be interactive exhibits, but more than half of the place is interactive! Better than expected! The only other science museum I've been to had a lot more room to work with, but for the space they have this museum packs itself with things that are able to draw attention, are interactive and actually teach cool stuff, even things that many adults probably don't know!

My favorite part, though, was this enthusiastic guy with an electro ball!

About Discovery Place

Discovery Place: A Hub for Science Education and Exploration in the Carolinas

Discovery Place is a non-profit organization that operates four hands-on science museums in the Carolinas. The organization's mission is to inspire curious minds and encourage lifelong learning through interactive exhibits, educational programs, and community outreach initiatives.

With over 70 years of experience in science education, Discovery Place has become one of the leading institutions for promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in the region. The organization's four museums are located in Charlotte (Discovery Place Science), Huntersville (Discovery Place Kids), Rockingham (Discovery Place Nature), and Statesville (The Museum of Iredell County).

Each museum offers a unique experience that caters to different age groups and interests. Discovery Place Science is a state-of-the-art facility that features interactive exhibits on physics, chemistry, biology, space exploration, and more. Visitors can explore virtual reality simulations of Mars or design their own rollercoaster using physics principles.

For younger children aged 0-7 years old there is Discovery Place Kids which provides an immersive learning environment with hands-on activities designed to stimulate curiosity about science concepts such as gravity or magnetism.

In contrast to these two urban locations there are also two rural locations: Discovery Nature Center which focuses on environmental conservation with exhibits on local flora & fauna as well as outdoor trails for hiking; while The Museum of Iredell County showcases local history from prehistoric times up until present day.

All four museums offer educational programs for schools ranging from kindergarten through high school level students. These programs include field trips where students can participate in hands-on activities related to various scientific topics such as robotics or geology.

In addition to its museum offerings Discovery place also hosts community events throughout the year including summer camps for kids interested in STEM subjects like coding or robotics; workshops aimed at adults who want to learn new skills like woodworking or metalworking; lectures by experts on topics ranging from climate change research all the way up into space exploration!

One thing that sets Discovery place apart from other science museums is its commitment towards accessibility - they offer free admission days throughout each year so everyone can have access regardless of financial means!

Overall if you're looking for an engaging way to learn about science then look no further than Discovery place! With its diverse range of exhibits & programming it truly has something for everyone whether you're young or old!
