First time being a dog owner and I had a lot of questions the doctor showed me how to cut my dogs nails and how much to feed my dog and everything I needed to know I had an amazing experience!! Thank you guys for being so great to my little baby!!
Absolutely loved the lady veterinarian and staff!!! They cared about your pet and help you save money if you need expensive tests done .
I like this clinic because it's quick and affordable. It is great to be able to walk in and tell THEM how things are going to go...no "office fee" just for stepping in the door and no appointments neccesary. I have been going to them for the past year and they take care of business and keep my lab healthy. As long as we live in the Des Moines area, I will continue to take my dog here.

Terrible service. After waiting more than an hour to be seen, I was finally able to get into an exam room with my dogs, which are two Chihuahuas. My youngest, who has never exhibited any aggressive behavior at home or at the numerous other facilities/doggy daycares, nipped the vet tech while the vet was clipping his nails. This was after he was put through getting blood drawn, receiving all of his yearly vaccines and then having his ears cleaned and swabbed for cultures. Needless to say, his patience was over. However, I wasn't allowed to hold my dog as requested during the nail trim which resulted in him nipping the tech. I know my dog and I know when his patience is over. For a wound comparable to a papercut, I was not allowed to leave the facility and was told that they "had" to call animal control. After waiting for another hour and a half animal control arrived and said it was not a big deal and sent us on our way. During the period of waiting for animal control, I was treated with zero empathy. I understand my dog nipped someone but the staff basically told me that my dog would need to be taken away due to this issue. I was devastated. While my face was swollen from crying, I approached the receptionist so that I could at least pay my bill during the wait. I was ignored while another customer who was at the desk after me was taken before me. The receptionist told me word for word "its not my fault your dog bit someone". Thanks. Way to kick someone while they have tears in their eyes and are visibly distraught. I will never put my dogs through the stress of visiting this dirty, unclean clinic, with blood on the waiting room floor again and will definitely never put myself through this stress again either. I suggest you look past their low prices and find a better quality vet.
The best kept pet care clinic secret. I love the no frills, pay for what you want instead of the pressure and guilt trip other clinics put on to buy health packages. Vets and staff are so very nice. You can see they love animals. Low Cost Spay Clinic is extremely reasonable for quality care; much less expensive than other clinics where I have taken my pets.
Sometimes you have to wait a bit. Because they are a walk-in clinic and take appointments, you may not get in to see the vet immediately, but the clients always strike up a conversation about their and your pet.
I'd encourage others to seek out this clinic for top-notch health care for your pet!

Mostly like this place, hard to get ahold as I work during day and struggle to get through phone line, but once through, can ask questions to any staff and they are knowledgeable, can look on computer to figure out what I need, and sometimes suggest add to items i need...knowledgable about products sold, and the price us right, although those are going through the roof also

Its okay. I always feel like I am bothering them when I call. For Example, I called last week to have my vaccine record faxed over so I could board my dogs. The front desk person responded with "yeah, I guess I can do that." She sounded very put out that I asked her to do work.
We just moved over to the East Side so we are going to keep looking for other places. I miss my old vet, Sullivan's in Johnston. They were incredible there.
My review is solely for their walk in policy, which they don t have on their website. The website says walk ins welcome but appointment take priority which makes perfect sense. What they don t say is that they stop taking walk ins at 10 am on Saturdays, when they don t close until noon. I got there at 1020. They won t make an appointment for me because my kitten isn t an established patient, so we have to be a walk in. They stop taking walk ins at 330 on the weekdays. I think it s great they offer this service for lower cost than a lot of places, but it s unfortunate that they can t make it more accessible.
They are very caring and take excellent care of our Piper. They have absolutely the most reasonable prices for the care they give I would pay triple though for the lovely way they treat our .
Best to make an appointment these days, but I have been taking my dogs to this clinic for years. I first came for the much lower cost, but I stayed because of the efficiency and competency of the staff. My dogs have always been treated well, and I have absolutely no complaints in regard to outcomes or service. Have had neutering, check-ups, shots and nail trimming done here.
I might have saved a little but not as much as I thought I would. Service is excellent yet wait times can be long since it is a walk in clinic.
The vet took the time and did tests to get my dogs health figured out.
As of month ago every breed of Pit Bull is and has been, CHANGED and ALL is listed AS American Pit Bull. My dog is Full Breed Blue Nose Pit listed color Blue since day he born he is 2 have no choice per two different workers NEW system only let's us put American OK than every one needs insurance n 6 foot fence in Polk Co area. Wow not letting this paper stay this way AND my dog isn't brown and white I have every paper all times he went there n other vet in Iowa city when born So micro chip list him as who n what he is n color. I said miss Rye died my American Pit n yes he was brindle n white u have Apollo with Rye's info. Nope e very pit system only will let us list as a breed n color they are not. My blue nose has city license tag. So all bulldogs listed as 1200 dollar English when really 300 American. All dobermans listed as mini pin red when full size black? I lived on Meredith on side west side of road when Rye was alive that side of road is Dogpatch as Webster Township not Polk Co n Johnston School AND rules about American Pits no fence no insurance duh that's why when died I moved across on Meridith Roads other side Polk Co so I knew the rules and got Blue Nose Pit. Now two years later I guess Rye came back alive Wow going to newspaper with thus story after I speak with owner Scott. Afford Care same owner has new system n they say that's not true they change it as dog is legally n always was. Very pissed two one very very rude receptionist I asked about his paper told me this n two weeks later Oct 4th another reception gal said same thing however she was nicer for sure but so still says he wrong dog n color
This is NOT a low cost spay clinic! They refuse to be up front about the cost of a simple neuter! They will not politely answer questions. It takes a minimum of 3 visits before they will neuter. The 1st trip all they did was look at him for 2 mins after an hour long wait. The second trip a very expensive rabies shot at $75, which typically only cost 20$. At the end of the 2nd visit i asked if they could finally tell me the price for the neuter job they snarked back "they don't tell prices til you come to the appointment". How can they reasonably call themselves a low cost spay clinic?

Not as concerning when it's on a Saturday and they will be closing in 45 minutes and your Dog needs medical care and you are crying and they refuse to help and send you somewhere else and you can't get help there either.

Took my dogs in for their rabies shot and today my dog dies 4 days after having that shot , he was perfectly fine until that day, running around playing. Now he's gone I'm NEVER going to this place again.
Everything is good about this clinic except the front desk staff they're never personable and when i called for my dogs rabies records they was very short and snippy towards me and even cut me off. If they were to fix the front desks attitudes it would be a perfect place otherwise all is amazing the vet care and prices were easy to work with!
Follows the safety guidelines for Covid 19, MANDATORY MASK to enter, but no one can stay inside, they come get your pet and bring it back to your vehicle. They are caring people and take the time to answer questions ,and they listen to you. Love this place even tho I've only been there once.
I m sickened by the treatment I received here.
I took my cat here because he was sick. It turned out he had a UTI blockage, which required immediate catheterization. The vet at this low cost clinic gave me three clinics as a referral for my cat s emergency care, early on a Friday afternoon.
Each of the three locations told me the cost of the procedure would be between $1,800 and $2,200. As my cat is my therapy animal, I needed to get the emergency taken care of, so I trusted the vet at the Low cost clinic, took out a loan, and am now in debt $2,035 because I didn t have time to shop around, and trustingly went to one of the three clinics they referred me to.
After my cat was released, I had to schedule a follow-up. Since I had time, I was able to shop around.
You know what? The first place I called said they charge $400-$600 for the same procedure!!!
The location I scheduled the follow-up WAS open on Friday and Saturday when my therapy cat was in critical need, and would have saved me ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED dollars had I gone there instead of the doctor this low cost farce clinic referred me to.

I asked for my Daughter's dog to be seen as she'd been going to a different clinic however she didn't receive the care she needed so I wanted a 2nd opinion. I also needed to get my 2 kittens in for an exam & first shots. I took my other 2 cats here for all their care & never had a problem. They have refused my pets care because of another clinic they call their "sister clinic" . My Lola is in pain & cannot get care she needs! Unreal
Bottom line don't go to low cost spay clinic. My complaints are to lengthy the only thing they know how to take care of is your pocket book
Nickel and dime you on everything. Wait time is terrible. Front desk service is garbage, and they have no compassion for your animal. 6 years ago, this was a great place, now, they are garbage.

I arrived today at 4:50 p.m. to get my dog 2 shots and walked in to an empty waiting room and a sign that said the doctor will be taking no more patients today. They say they are open untill 5:30 which I thought was very misleading because I was there 40 mins before close and
was not able to have my dog seen. So if you
want your animal seen I advise showing up at
least an hour and a half early because they don't honor the hours they have advertised.
I called a few days ago to inquire about spaying a feral cat. The lady on the phone was extremely rude and said they don't give that cost over the phone. They have to examine the cat first and give it 2 series of vaccines "before they will even discuss prices!" She was incredibly rude and condescending in her tone. Definitely not a place I would want to give my business to

Great place for basic pet care (such as shots). I would choose another vet for any surgery. The low cost for surgery is due to lack of anesthesia.
Great service. People please make an appointment if you don't have patience to wait your turn on the "Walk-in list" because those of us who are walk-in sometimes don't want to hear you complain about how long you think you might be waiting for. You should have walked in earlier *Thank you.

The doctors here are super nice and very patient with my dogs and cats. They made having to put down my senior kitties not so rough. I love the spay clinic and dont trust anyone else with my animals

I've been going here and their sister clinic (Afford-A-Care) for a little over 20 years. This clinic has provided pretty much everything we've needed taken care of. Very compassionate when we had no choice but to put two of our beloved fur babies to sleep.
They also fixed two of our cats, that we aquired from family. The most recent one was just two weeks ago. Short of it was they were very kind and informative, when it came to taking care of fixing Stormy. She was doing great by the next day. I'm appreciative of everything they do for us.
I greatly appreciate how kind the staff are as well as how well they follow CDC guidelines for pandemic safety. The prices are quite affordable as well.
I have been taking my cat here since she was a tiny baby.. best of care for vaccinations, surgery and all routine checkups.. they have a passion for the services they provide and it shows as they handle each pet. Very friendly staff and affordable prices.. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
I didn't know what to do when I first got there so I sat there for a while till I seen someone come out . I finally got the info on how to get in, I was there from 8:30 in the morning till 11: 00. Go inside door, fill out paperwork, lay it on the counter. They will come outside.

Very caring compassionate gentle and helping us take care of our dog in her last moments. I was very impressed at the vet took the time to give each of us a hug and telling us he was sorry for her loss.
My wife and I have been going here for the past almost 4 years. Recently we took one of our dogs there to get a rabies shot as she was due. They gave her that plus a 4 in 1 shot. She reacted badly. Swelled up and had bad hives. I called to voice my concern that they should have known not to give a dog under 10lbs more than one vaccine at a time. I origiinally asked for a doctor and I thought I got one but I'm thinking I got the same rude little girl who answered the phone. She was rude to my wife yesterday as well in person. They refused to give me any info on the doctor that gave my dog the vaccines besides a last name. They hung up on me twice. I was not rude. I quoted them facts from the national vet association and the national vet journal of medicine on giving dogs under 10lbs more than one vaccine at a time and they in so many words said it was my fault. It was when I said "well you're the vet not me so you should have known better" that they hung up. Again I don't think I ever spoke to a doctor and it was the receptionist. I've moved to a new vet who is amazing and will recommend anyone to NEVER go to the Low Cost Spay Clinic.
Took in a 3 month old chauaua to get his distemper shot he was having a reaction to it an the would not see his right away said we had to wait tell the people before us were seen but we were just there and paid for this shot need less to say we went to university west vet were he was seen as soon as we walked in the gave him a shot and medicion to take to stop the reaction he was having he could have die if he did not get the treatment he need will never go to this vet spay clinic an will tell all my friends an family if you love your pet go somewhere else

Walked in and was greeted by friendly staff. Dr Kelchen spent so much time with us, reviewing systems, labs, and options. She was very knowledgeable and compassionate with my questions and concerns about my aging dog. She was very aware of financial implications regarding various treatment options. Together a treatment plan was developed that best served our situation. So very greatful.

Great place.. great prices... one thing thats making me mad is that when I call Saturday during business hours which says 8am to 12 and I call at 9 to schedule an appointment machine says they are closed, you cant leave message... now I have to drive 20 min to schedule an appointment. I love this place ! I ve been taking my dogs here since they were puppy s. My 2 dogs are a bit loud and nerves with people. But the dr took his time for my dogs to smell him and be comfortable. In order to receive their shots. Although my dogs still dislike the wait and seeing dogs/people they feel calmer with the Drs.

I brought two kittens in (4months male, 8 months female) to get rabies vaccinations and to be neutered/spayed. I dropped them off at 6:00am and picked them up at 3:00. The staff was very friendly and answered all questions I had (as this was my first major surgery experience as a pet owner). Low cost, and we will be going back!
