From a distance who would have known the difference, between the city Mykene and one of the other mountains nearby. You have to go and see the Treasury of Atreus, but start here and end with the Tomb.
Price for both places is 8 EUR.
It's one of top 10 sights in Greece so come early or late afternoon.

Archaeological site interesting for its unique architectural particularities and for the presence of a small but well-equipped museum rich in some of the most famous artifacts of antiquity.

Shocking space!

Shocking space!
a UNESCO World Heritage site, but unfortunately a monument of state abandonment and indifference, despite its high traffic.

You have to have imagination to be able to imagine this city. Except for the lion gate, which is already well preserved + very imposing, it is not that easy. Some "buildings" are quite easy to imagine - others less so. The way up is easy to reach - but there are some inclines. Panoramic view from above - when the sun isn't going down + you can't see anything. The group was allowed in completely; stop as usual with a mask.

This is an amazing archeological site about 45 minutes outside of Athens. Was built roughly 1500 BC, headed by King Agamemnon. A very large site on rolling hills, a must see with the accompanying museum.

Quite a hike but an amazing view at the top of the surrounding fields and olive orchards. The lion gate is the main attraction and a perfect photo op. Be careful as the paths are slippery and the hike up is steep - wear the appropriate footwear and bring water. There's an area where you can walk down a seemingly endless set of stone steps underground - I'd skip it as there's literally nothing at the end and it's dark, claustrophobic, filled with spiders, and enirely unlit. Not sure why people go down there or why it's even allowed - there's nothing to explain what it is either.

Mythical city that is worth visiting and reading the various posters of the tour. You are going by their structures and design of the city.

The final part with the water system is admirable.

Large parking area to leave the car.

The main center of the Mycenaean civilization that dominated the eastern Mediterranean before the rise of the ancient Greek cities. The place is not well preserved and in the summer it is quite hot as there are not many shadows but it is worth a visit. There are many interesting things in the adjoining museum. With the tickets for this place can also be visited at the Archeological Museum and Atreus Treasure in the vicinity, which is also very interesting.

Archaeological site that is worth a visit especially due to the enormous amount of remains, when you reach the top of the village (royal palace) there is always a lot of wind, I highly recommend the tomb of Agamemnon.

I loved it. Amazing to be visiting this place. The hike around the complex is nice and very enjoyable. The surrounding views and landscapes are spectacular. The museum is small but very informative.
Be aware that there is no shade so it will be hot on a sunny day.
If you read about the history of the place ahead of your visit you will really see how special is the place!

Thanks

We have just rented a car this morning to visit the Mycene site from Athens. It is noted that the site closes at 6 p.m. on the Google page. We arrive at 3 p.m. and ... we are turned back in a rather unpleasant way because the closure would be at 3 p.m. (see photo attached).
Very disapointed !!! Fake hours of opening / Very bad reception!

5 * for what Mycenae is for history. 5 * for the small museum, but rich in documents.
2 * for the pouring of concrete on part of the sites of the site. They could have installed wooden and aluminum piers in order to observe the archaeological site "in its natural state"
4 stars is the average.

Must .One of the places one should see, when visiting Greece and you have an extra day to leave Athens. You should take tour guide in order to understand the history of the place ( since 1300bc) and to explain the significance of it through out the centuries. You should try it on a more cloudy day, since you will be under the sun for the most of the tour.

The site is great, even beautiful. At the height of Unesco.

Strong points:
Like many places in Greece, incredible view a few minutes from Nafplion / Tolo.
Well maintained and fun site to visit.

Weak points:
More expensive than the average.

This is definitely a must.
