A great day out for me and my grandson. Its got the lot.
Outstanding place to know the history of fighter planes
This is a must if you have a love for military aviation and one of the biggest collections in the country.
been there many times and love to visit again, nice to see planes so close
A Great day to be had walking between the 4 hangars checking out all the displays, memorabilia, dioramas and exhibitions.
There's a fantastic collection of aircraft both inside and out, old and new.
There are 4 Hangars;
1/ National Cold War Exhibition, with 3 nuclear bombers including the Vulcan Bomber.
2/ Test Flight, featuring research and development aircraft.
3/ War in the Air, featuring German & Japanese aircraft and what is believed to be the world's oldest Supermarine Spitfire 1, K9942.
4/ Hangar 1, full of transport and training aircraft and the 1:1 scale Airfix Spitfire as featured on the James May Toy Stories series, complete with a model James (who looks like he s dozed off).
#FamilyFriendly #Educational
Some very interesting historical planes for the adults and a lot of experiments and other things to play with for the kids. Pretty nice experience even though it did get a tad bit boring after an hour or so.
First visit in years and well worth the day out so much has changed well done RAF Cosford
This place offers a very interesting and educational day out. Definately worth a visit!
What a brilliant place free to enter all you have to pay is carpark and that's not expensive so a great day out
Awesome place. Been going there since I was a little kiddo! Thank you for your service in the Royal Air Force/Core.
I have been going to RAF Cosford for many years and enjoyed the day out with my family.
HOWEVER.
Having visted this year on a day that temperatures hit 28/29 degrees i became aware of the high cost of keeping my family fed and watered at the "Refuel" restaurant.
The food was as usual fairly priced and of good quality but cold drinks were extremely expensive...and throughout the day cost an arm and leg !
Staff polite and efficient and although breakfast was not delivered for 25 minutes it was very nice
Brilliant day out looking at all the different planes very informative and free to get in
A brilliant air base and when visiting the annual airshow it's very well organised and the staff are friendly and care about everyone having a fun day.
Cosford air show was amazing i braved it an took my 3 children 13 8 3 my brother n sister in law we had a great day well worth it parked on cricket club but wow I was blown away by the displays especially the fulcan an red arrows rest were also fab journey wasnt to bad hit some traffic but what can you do it didnt spoil our day
Excellent value and the range of exhibits is truly amazing. My son stayed over night with his Cub Scout and he had a fantastic time.
Family connections as my Dad was in the RAF Regiment.
Just back from Cosford Air Show.
What a shambles of traffic management, started out from home,8.30am, parked in the base at 3.30pm after a 30 mile journey . The display ended at 5.00pm. what a waste of money and an awful strain not to lose ones temper. If as the cosford " blog " suggested that due to the record number of tickets sold , parking may become a problem, and they may only consider people on foot rather than vehicles, then why not limit the number of vehicle's to a manageable sum , or make it clear on their ticket line after the quota of vehicle clients had been reached that only pedestrian tickets would be now on sale. Leaving cosford was just the reverse of getting there with all exits chocked for many hours before movement was noticed. Bloody awful Day, with most of the display scrapped for a lot of people.
Went here with a coach party from Clarkestravel, my grandkids aged 7yrs & 10yrs, along with my niece & nephew. They had a brilliant time, checking out all the things to try out, they were able to sit in the cockpit of one the planes, which More
My visit was amazing it was last year and there were an air show wich was awome!!!
Just got back from Cosford, I last went there over 20 years ago and it really has changed for the better.
The hangers are all full of historical planes that cover the whole of the age of flight both civil and military.
All the aircrafts are in good condition and it shows that the museum ground crew do a good job.
The highlights for me is the General Electric Lighting suspended from the ceiling demonstrating how the plane would accelerate when in service.
It was also good that there were a good balance of WW2 aircraft including RAF and Luftwaffe. I have never stood next to a Junkers JU-88 before. It was my first ever airfix model I made over 40 years ago.
The last time I went most of the aircraft were outside so the museum was weather dependant but now the majority of the aircrafts are in doors making it possible to enjoy the museum no mater what the weather can throw at you.
Everywhere is nice and clean and there are toilets situated in every hanger so no need to have to search for them like some places.
I will add a few photos with the review but put lots more on my photo page,
Overall it was great to visit and I will try and go back when the air show is on in 2020.
Excellent exhibition, the collection includes a lot of unique items, such as a few survivors of the German Luftwaffe, WW2 missiles and a couple of Japanese WW2 aircraft as only survivors of those types.
Also the cold war exhibition is worthwhile with all 3 V bombers and a large collection of stand off weapons.
Even a couple of Russian planes are not missing, a Mig-15 and Mig-21.
A fantastic place to visit. I've been 4 times and it's still brill. Lots to see N do. We'll worth s visit.
Fun for everyone, a great day out, lots to see and do, great service at the cafe too
Excellent, we spent 4hours here and could have spent more time, highlights are the spitfires and the cold war exhibit, for a free entry museum this is outstanding
Great day out ,and FREE if there is not a airshow on ,well worth a visit
Haven't been to RAF Cosford, but was stationed at RAF Woodbridge (in Suffolk) in the 67th Air Rescue Squadron (USAF) in '84-'87.
Awesome place to visit. Amazing air show. Loved it.x
Great day out, and you only have to pay for the car park
Really impressed today. Huge number of aircraft in great condition displayed with flair. Lots of interactive opportunity and plenty of colleagues around for assistance.
I will be back as 2 hours today was nowhere near enough.
Took the whole family to the airshow at the weekend, grandparents, parents and children, we all loved it!
Very interesting and informative. If you love planes this is s gd start. Able to get abt even with mobility problems. Not too far to travel.
Fantastic Day Out, lots to see and do - highly recommend!! From the planes, tanks, missiles to old cars. Interactive area - great for adults, children and families!!
Amazing place, didn't realize how many aircrafts we actually have
Planes are in outstanding condition. Well worth a visit!!!
Booked a time entry slot for free, they had spacing for queues and someone explaining how the museum is keeping you safe and the protocols. I forgot my mask but you can use a disposable or buy one. There was parts shut unfortunately like the children's experiment bit which is a shame. But mine enjoyed the videos the large planes and seeing different items. There was alot of space and was not at all cramped. Will definitely return when the full exhibition is open especially the children's bit and so they can sit in a plane.
Excellent organisation and outstanding sense of friendliness from the officials, very flexible and great facilities
The speaker system is the best I have heard at an airshow
Thrilling experience
Thank you
Absolutely loved visiting and will be back. Great range of aircraft and totally free.
An outstanding collection of aircraft. Very well presented.
Great museum, free to get in jyst pay for the car pa. Good insight into the war years.
What a fantastic day out and it's free entry a fully comprehensive collection of aircraft through the history of aviation and displayed in such a wonderful and absorbing way. I thuroughly enjoyed this and would recommend to any family or couple looking for a nice day out
Really interesting place to visit packed full of history. A must for everyone, take the family go with friends, have some lunch, take a picnic, enjoy the whole of the Museum.
Great place to visit.
Ignore moans about the cafe prices. It's free to get in - if you can't accept that they need to raise a bit of money take a flask and wallow in your stinginess.
Yet again another great British museum, well worth a visit.
Great museum, always love spending an hour or two here.
Airshow has been going from strength to strength in recent years, provided you have the common sense to aim to arrive for 8am rather than leave then...
Where dreams are both made and destroyed in equal measure, phase 2 training is great!
Was a nice day out. Seen all the planes. Sadly I did not know enough of the history to appreciate all of the planes. Attempted to read all the signs but sometimes it's worth just having someone who knows their stuff to walk around and give you the tour. I am not sure if they offer such services, but may be worth them looking in to.
Lots of history of aviation in front of your eyes. Recently renovated and expanded.
We came for the Air show in June 17. We had a great day with a very good selection of aircraft both flying and static displays on the tarmac and in hangars. Lots of side shows including lots of different eateries and refreshment stalls. The show was very good with The Red Arrows and a Swiss display team putting on a good show too. Some good American flyby's and a very nice liveried Italian Tornado put on a good display. Too much to list really. All in all a very good day and I would come again. Easy well organized access in and out from the the M54 side.
Very good educational visit. Lots of things to see. Good history lesson.
I recommend a visit! loved it, I saw loads of planes
Took my eldest on Sunday (age 6) what can i say. We loved it. Great displays and lots to do. Particularly enjoyed the red arrows 4D experience. All round great day out. Even getting rinsed by the boy at the souvenir shop didn't affect the wallet too much
We visited with our toddler and he absolutely loved it. The museum is very well kept and the team are really kind and clearly love being there. Whilst going round our little one dropped his comforter teddy. We didn t realise until much further round but the person we spoke to radio d his colleagues and tracked down the teddy within minutes. Great customer service!
There is a small charge for the car park but entrance to the museum is free. It s a great day out for the family, they could easily charge for this so it s amazing that they don t, definitely worth visiting!
I've been going there for 22 years now and never get bored, l only go when schools are back it's more relaxing
Please notice that this is NOT the museum which obviously many visitors are looking for. If you enter these premises without permission, you will get arrested! Many have mistaken this air base as the museum by uploading photos of the museum. The museum is about half a mile from the train station. Make sure you search for 'RAF Cosford Museum'!
Absolutely brilliant display of aircraft. Very well worth a visit.
A wonderful full days exciting entertainment, everything organised to the max.
Well done Cosford and a massive thankyou to the on site quad bike rider who rescued us after we discovered we had a very inconvenient flat battery at the end of a great day.
See you next year
Tony and Sandra B
I did Training at cosford in 1948 and quite enjoyed my time there I went from there to Calshot [Sunderland flying boats then to Pembroke dock when the Berlin airlift was on but due to a disagreement with a Base corperal I got posted to El Kabrit Egipt for the rest of my national service
Best meuseum that ive ever been to make shure you follow the road all the way past the air ambulance and ranges to get to museum
Loved this place as much as my kids did. The Vulcan hanging off the ceiling was amazing. Loved the ww2 type hall with all the old stuff. Takes you back to a bygone era. Just wish some of the gift shops trinkets were cheaper!
Ditto,
Amazing that Lyneham closes, yet this little place doesn't.
What were the government thinking?
Bet some one looked at a map and thought; two RAF bases within 40 miles of each other!
We can't have that..lets close one!!
Amazing place, went there on an air cadet camp, absolutely brilliant
great visit with my son today. Friendly staff, good social distancing measures in place. He enjoyed seeing the planes and we will visit again. Free entry is great just paid for parking..
Fantastic free day out. Kids loved it there and so did we!
I disagree with the majority of reviews here. RAF Cosford is a very good RAF Base. I came here a few momths ago with Air Cadets. We all had a great time and the facilities were great apart from the Flying was cancelled.
The family love there day at RAF cosford airshow, the air show was amazing and the 4 hangers full of great stuff to look at. There was plenty of good food stalls and loads of other bits and bobs to buy. We'll worth a trip
Interesting day out . Huge planes . Good for kids .
we had a great day out and would highly recommend a visit
Been here a number of times now. All ways enjoy the day there.
An excellent day out. Plenty of space to have a picnic too. A Cafe is also available.
