As a coach at CFV and a long standing member, there isnt a better gym around. Paul and Steve taught me so much about the sport of fitness that I eventually persued becoming a coach myself. There isnt a better community around, every single member is accepting of anyone trying out a class or new to crossfit and everyone works hard to achieve their goals. If you ve ever wanted to dip your toes into the CrossFit pool, this is the place to do it!

Could not imagine a better gym than CrossFit Variance. Between the coaching and wods it is by far the best. When I first started at variance I was recovering from an injury that limited me to only using one arm. The coaches were always so great about helping me scale the workouts so I could still participate. Overall, Paul created an amazing program at variance and I highly recommend it!

Crossfit Variance is "The Crossfit Gym" on Boston'...

Crossfit Variance is "The Crossfit Gym" on Boston's North Shore. The Community, the Coaching and the Programming are unrivaled. With roughly 5.000 sqft of space, plenty of rig space and equipment, along with class schedules to fit anyone's schedule the options are endless.

Variance's environment caters to the individual, from your first timer to
seasoned competitive athlete, college athlete home on break, 9 to 5'er, service members and first responders, no one is excluded. There is a space for everyone and each class time is different. The vibe is relaxed, no pressure and low-key if you want. Though for those that want to dial-it-up and chase the WODs there is room for you too!

When I first started going to Variance, Crossfit in general was intimidating, despite having an athletic background weight lifting was not a core competency of mine. The community could not have been more welcoming and supportive of me as a new member. The Coaches got me up to speed over time focusing on mobility and technique. From there we scaled WODs until I in-tune with the movements, mobility and ready to push the pace. Before long, I was chasing the the clock and pushing myself with the best of my peers, feeling competitive, but more so safe before grabbing my train for a day of work.

If you have ever wondered, "Is Crossfit for me? Will I fit in? Will I like it...?" The answer is "Yes." You will like it at Crossfit Variance arguably more than elsewhere for the simple fact that Variance is about the Community and its Members first and foremost.

Come join the Family. Get Healthy. Have fun. Five years later, I wish I joined sooner.

CFV has been an integral part of my life since I moved back to the north shore. I began CrossFit in VT in 2019 (shout out to 802cross fit!) and within a year had to move back due to family reasons. Namely, my mother was diagnosed with cancer.

I came to CFV with a decent foundation of what CrossFit was about, but I was still very much a newbie. Being new to a gym is always intimidating. I came into the gym and felt welcomed. I had tried all of the gyms in the surrounding towns during my time as I worked in VT and came back to MA for my mother s treatments. CFV was consistently the place where I could let go and have time to not think about my mounting grief.

When my mother passed the coaches took note and went above and beyond, though I had only joined 4 months prior. I kept going to class, and the classes kept me going.

Then the Covid pandemic hit. I work as a nurse, I m sure you ve heard the stories. Again, the community at CFV kept me going. I may not PR every week, and I definitely have many skills to work on, but I leave each class better than I started, mentally and physically.

Each gym has its own vibe. CFV and the community that make it are 1000% worth checking out to see if it s for you

As a Crossfit newbie, I was pretty nervous to sign up for a class, but I'm so glad I did. Everyone at Crossfit Variance welcomed me with open arms. These guys are not only good guys but excellent coaches. You'd be crazy not to check them out!

Have been at CrossFit Variance going on 3+ years. Best part for me is getting an amazing work out 4 times a week and never repeating the same workout that works for my schedule (many options daily). Another huge value add is the community, all like minded people who want to get better everyday. At 30 years old I m the strongest I have ever been and I hope to keep this going for at least next 50 years with CFV. Come down you will not regret it!

I had taken about a decade off from working out... So needless to say I went in there for the first time clueless and completely out of shape. I'm not in shape yet, working toward it, but the coaches have helped me scale workouts and make a bunch of progress over the past several months. The gym is super clean each time I go in, the people are great and the coaches attention to detail is strong. I've visited a few other gyms since taking the plunge and can say with confidence Variance is the best I've experienced. If you're on the fence, give it a shot! If you're experienced, come on in - the programming here is solid!

I started working out at this gym 3 months ago and it had been one of the best decisions I have made for my health. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and will work with you to accomplish your fitness goals. Even though I have been coming to this gym for a short time I already feel as though I am making great strides in my strength, conditioning, and athleticism. The atmosphere created by the staff and it's members is incredibly welcoming, accepting, and supportive. Most importantly for me going to the gym no longer feels like a drag or a chore as it did when worked out in a standard cookie cutter gym I now look forward to working out each day and pushing myself.

I began my CrossFit journey at CrossFit Variance with Paul Dalton in June 2012 when the Box first opened. Over 3 years later, I continue to be amazed by flourishing community environment that has been fostered, the level of training that has been maintained, and the impressive fitness of all of our members. I look forward to the many more years to come as both a Coach and Athlete!

When I first walked into CrossFit Variance 15 months ago, I was immediately hooked! As a middle aged male (50), I was experiencing lower back aches/pains and limited flexibility. CrossFit Variance's coaching is superb and they scale the workouts down to meet my level. 15 months later, I feel better than I've felt in 15 years. I love the fact that the workouts are different every day - I've not had the same workout twice in 15 months! I've met a lot of new friends in a very positive (and healthy) atmosphere.
