Great place. Connected to the school. The gym has everything I needed.
It is a nice place to stay of you have a business at the hospital.
Great stay! The proximity to UAB Hospital was a plus. We enjoyed the convenience of the bistro for our evening meal. The shared parking deck with UAB made things simple. Well informed and courteous staff took great care of us. And the room was the best.
Very nice hotel right in the middle of downtown Birmingham. Close to local attractions & hotspots.
High priced rip off. We were quoted a price before check-in. (With a senior discount ).
The next morning I picked up my bill from under the door. It was ridiculous. The price was about 60.00 more, plus they charged 10.00 for parking in the hospital parking lot.
All the city taxes added did not help matters .
I firmly DO NOT RECOMMEND STAY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT.
Sorely overpriced. People who stay there are usually going for hospital services and under a lot of stress. Thes people couldn't care any less. They will not work with you on anything because they know they have over a barrel.
I recently had a family member that has been at UAB Hospital for quite a while. They are many hotels in the area, however, if needing a hotel I highly recommend this hotel. You will not beat the convenience from UAB and other downtown attractions! An elevator goes directly to the hotel from UAB parking garage, and the staff make sure there is no loitering or unsafe conditions (although that is not so much under their control)! In fact, many police patrols will stop by occasionally and speak with the staff while outside in a friendly manner. Although convenient I am adamant about customer service, and will forsake convenience for cleanliness and customer service. The staff at UAB Marriott gets 100 stars! The offerings for food and drink are adequately priced and vary from Starbucks to meals to alcohol offerings in the Bistro! The staff from housekeeping to the clerks are a pleasure and always professional and attentive! From the point of check in (not knowing how long I would be there) all of the staff knew my name on the very first night! I want to personally thank the housekeeping services, Tammy, Shawn, Kendrea, Johnathon, Tori, Lisa, Yvonne, and Patricia for their outstanding care and customer service! I hope I did not forget anyone because I have not encountered any subpar staff or treatment. I am not a difficult customer, but I have high expectations. If you are the same--this is the place for you! 5 STARS, DEFINITELY RECOMMEND, AND THIS IS WHAT KEEPS MARRIOTT THRIVING--EXPERIENCES AND SERVICE FROM STAFF THAT ARE PRESENT AT UAB MARRIOTT!
As a corporate video producer, I used their event/conference room to video a virtual trade show live stream.
The internet cut out over 100 times in the 4 hour period (we have an app that monitors it - anytime it hesitates even for a few seconds it counts it), but we ran dual internet connections (with a hotspot) to make it smooth to the viewer.
Its common to have internet issues, even if it seems fast it rarely is stable. So we work around it and make it smooth to the viewer.
Regarding noise:
Despite being right by the hospital, with the proper mics for audio and gear setup - our viewers didnt hear the helicopters flying over or the ambulances. They must insulate the building quite well!
Employees:
The sales people managing the facility were super nice and accommodating,
Accommodations:
There is a Starbucks attached - no free lobby coffee, but you can get a good cup at the mini cafe.
Great place for family of patients at UAB hospital.
Very convenient when you want to be very close to your love ones in UAB hospital. Smart move, it's worth it!
Okay Courtyard. Neighborhood doesn't have a whole lot to offer unless you're coming to see / visit the hospital. Rooms are somewhat dated. Stay somewhere closer to Southtown or Redmont if you want any decent restaurants within walking distance.
Great stay. Clean and spacious. The food at The Bistro is excellent.
Also, the hotel staff is warm and accommodating specifically Rick, who quickly helped us with an issue and was so friendly. Thank you!
Improved from our 1st visit, but still cleaning is always a concern.
The rooms are reasonably priced with good guest services.
Went here for work training in one of the conference rooms. What I saw of it was really nice. And they had snack and drinks in the lobby
Spent the last 2 days there while my husband had surgery at UAB hospital. Front desk staff was extremely professional and helpful with information about places to eat and directions. The only issue we had was housekeeping. We arrived Thursday evening, checked in our room, only to find we needed a few more towels and coffee. I called the front desk and was told someone would be right up to Bri g them. Got up Friday morning and still didn t have, so we called back again, and they were brought right up. We went over to the hospital for my husbands surgery mid morning, came back to the room early evening and our room had not been touched by housekeeping staff. I went to the front desk and requested our room be cleaned on our way back over to the hospital. Came back a few hours later to find they emptied the trash and picked towels up from bathroom floor and that s all they did. They didn t restock towels, I had to go back to the desk again. A few minutes later a staff member came to the door rudely with towels stating she was there due to the scene I caused at the front desk about not having towels. I informed her that I didn t cause a scene, I just thought for the money we paid for the room we should have better housekeeping services and showed her the door so she could exit our room. She was still running her smart mouth as I closed the door on her. Never will I stay there I will walk miles over convenience before I pay that kind of money for horrible housekeeping.....
It was great. The staff was friendly and our room was clean.
This is the best hotel to stay at if using facilities at UAB. Located so close to the hospital that you can walk to the doctors offices from the hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Very convenient to park car, check in and then walk over to UAB for medical appointments. Anyone coming to UAB, stay here and you ll be glad you did.
Had to stay overnight due to a family member in the hospital. Room was nice, but the towels were less than desirable. Also, it was $10 a day to park in the garage, but it was $6 a day if you visited the hospital.
I don't work for Courtyard - as obviously a couple of the reviewers must below. I stay in Courtyard hotels all across the country and usually choose them for their consistency. This one is very sub-par.
1. The hotel charges more for parking than if you just pay yourself at the garage. The garage is almost attached. You will be lucky to find parking in it as it is nearly completely full all the time.
2. The charges for the hotel are very high. Go elsewhere to buy things.
3. Poorly cleaned rooms. Our room was not cleaned the first day. Had to request it to be cleaned several times. The sheets had mascara stains on them and it made me question if fresh sheets had even been put on the hotel.
4. Staff: Staff is extremely rude and unpleasant. I had to go to the front desk three times to get one issue resolved. Kept being told it would be taken care of. We left and came back hours later to find nothing had been done.
5. Old: The hotel recently had a very poorly done update. Walls painted, etc. But the carpet is still worn. The walls are were poorly painted. The grout in the bathrooms was stained. Our thermostat was falling off the wall.
6. Hospital: The ONLY reason someone would stay here is if they were visiting a loved one in the attached hospital. This is the only selling point of the hotel. Do yourself a favor, stay a block or so away at a nicer facility.
Avoid this poorly run, poorly maintained, motel.
I wasn't there for a stay. I had a business meeting. However, the hotel's staff was very courtious and helpful.
Wow! I tried to get a job at Marriott, but, after mentioning I wasn t interested in going back to school, they didn t send the emails they said they would send about job opportunities. Wow. I thought telling him I wanted to get myself together financially first that that would been understood. Guess it wasn t. Interesting, very interesting
This a great hotel if you have business at UAB Hospital. The staff is friendly and efficient several restaurants reasonably close by. Ample parking.
Very comfortable beds and great ac. Service is happy to help.
Hotel staff was friendly and the room was very comfortable.
My wife and sister stayed there from 11.8 to 11.13.2017 for my pancreatic cancer surgery. I asked if they offered a discounted rate for this special need to stay as close to the UAB Hospital during this very difficult life changing experience and they simply offered some rates that were not discounted that much. Other cancer centers offer special lodging rates with nearby lodging.
There was a small fridge but no microwave in room to help with controlling costs of meals.
In summary, it appears the Marriott lodging is simply geared to the various business folks that stay there due to the shear sake of convenience calling on all the medical professional businesses while their expenses will be paid by their employers.
On top of this I am a Reward member but due to my illness had let the reward points expire.
Thanks Courtyard Marriot, UAB Hospital.
Very very basic Marriott. No liquid creamer in the rooms for your coffee even! Parking lot is kind of tricky, but as expected for downtown. Beds were comfy. Just know there is no room service at all and it takes literally 25 mins to get a coffee from the Bistro market. There is one person that works the cashier and the food prep (she's super kind, just understaffed). I will prob just stay at the Westin bc I think the extra $30 is definitely worth it.
very nice place to stay
clean rooms and nice family atmosphere
For the money it's the location you pay for. Not pleased. Last day there I found out from a guest they had breakfeast for guest. No desk clerk informed me of this at all.
Pros - This hotel is in a great location if you have business with UAB. Clean bed linen and towels. Lots of eating places nearby. Cons - No parking for guests other than on street or parking deck around the corner which you pay for. Room was small with King size bed but TV was across from the couch which made viewing in the bed impossible. Bath tub was slick on the bottom and no bath mat. Had to use a towel in the tub so I wouldn't fall. Shower curtain was dirty. No restaurant on premises, only a Bistro with very high priced sandwiches and drinks. Elevators make a loud ping at each floor which can be heard in nearby rooms.
Nicely appointed spacious rooms. The Bistro served a robust breakfast and had a decent bar. The hotel is directly connected to UAB hospital making access very convenient.
This place needs to be remodeled a.s.a.p. Linens looked old, over priced for the low quality. I will not be staying here again.
The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Went back to talk to the GM and she was just as bad. Now I'm going to call to speak to the corporate office about the issue.
Rooms are beautiful! Beds are so comfortable! Very clean!
Exceptionally clean!!! Very friendly and helpful staff.
We were going for an event, so we didn't get a room. But the place seemed nice enough.
Overall, it was a great experience. Everything was clean, and the staff was very friendly from the moment I walked in the door. The location was convenient for my visit to UAB. The only negative was that myself and the group I was with were relying on the hotel bistro for breakfast in the morning. We had prepaid vouchers to eat before our meetings. We were told they opened at 6 am, but weren't open until almost 7, so we didn't have time to eat.
A good stay. Parking was a little tight and our reservations were messed up. However, I would stay here again.
Good location but we had a hard time with our free breakfast. Then after along day at hospital came back to no fresh towels and room was not serviced. The service people are nice but need to service the rooms.
Perfect for UAB hospital visits. Staff is friendly and the rooms are meticulously clean. Highly recommended!
Nice clean rooms with Starbucks and a cafe. Not the cheapest place to stay, but certainly the most conveinant to UAB Hospital. Nice place for anyone if they have a friend or relative in the UAB Hospital. Better than sleeping in a hospital bed or chair for sure.
Great Service , Friendly , Clean, Helpful....I enjoyed staying at the Courtyard Marriott
I am disappointed at the soaring room rate
prices along with no patient discount rate.
Plus the elimination of private parking
spaces to paying for valet parking only.
Great location in Birmingham. Friendly staff. Modern, fresh earth tones interior room design. Very comfortable beds. Like sleeping on a cloud. Small refrigerator in rooms, microwaves in vending in the hallways on each floor. Paul Mitchell products in bathrooms. Pantry stocked with beer, wine, snacks and toiletries. Bistro restaurant was very tasty. Simple rustic food that makes a belly happy. Fitness center on site is open 24 hours. Nearby is UAB Medical Center, Birmingham Civil Rights Museum, Mc Wane Science Center,Alabama Theater. Stayed for four days. Each day very pleasant. The staff here make you feel right at home. Wonderfully the southern charm resonates here at Courtyard Marriott. Thank you to the very nice front desk associate, Ms Kendra who was working the evening of April 8th. You re awesome!
Night Clark a bit rude day shift extremely nice. Clean Rooms microwave coffee maker refrigerator hair dryer all included they offer weekly rates
They gave us a new room after we contacted corporate about the poor customer service and poor cleaning during covid-19, which is a good thing because my fiance has underlying health issues... Thank u corporate Marriott!!!
Very helpful front desk and staff at the Bistro. Comfy and clean.
Great service and staff, beautiful rooms, just a little pricey the reason it's not 5stars
We stayed the night because my son had an early morning appointment at Children's Hospital. It was an 8 minute walk to the hospital. There's plenty of food options right beside the hotel and a Starbucks/Bistro inside the hotel. Staff was super friendly and our room was nice and clean! Will definitely stay there again in the future!
If you have a love one staying at UAB hospital this is a great place to stay. Walking distance to the hospital. Very nice rooms. Staff made us feel very welcome.
Stayed here for a concert in Birmingham. Excellent room!
The Courtyard staff (front desk and maid) were great. The location may have 50 feet from UAB Hospital. When I travel back for follows I will stay there.
It was clean and beds are very nice very s oki ft feeling but yet firm, however too long a walk to food not want amenities terrible coffee in room microwave not in room at end oil f hall but all personnel was helpful and very sweet! Just not par fo r Extras as I've experienced with others
Extremely overpriced, decor out of date, room could have been cleaner but the bed did sleep good and the location was convenient to UAB.
This Hotel is now under renovation...lots if banging in the early morning
Hotel was not great. No valet, no parking except around the corner. Food options limited. Room was spacious enough but toilet ran the entire night.
Employees were so friendly. Loved the bistro. Got a margarita at the bar. The young girl Jan was so sweet and friendly
Really enjoyed staying here for a night while my husband is in the hospital. Clean rooms and very nice. Would recommend it for anyone
