Copthorne Hotel, Merry Hill Review

Parking is a nightmare and very deceptive unless you know there is a system within the hotel. We drove in to collect several family members and gifts following an event. The barrier was up and there was chaos with collection and drop-off following a wedding. We found a space and by the time we had found where our family were in the hotel and loaded the car we had been given a tickets from hidden cameras. Totally inflexible and unforgiving response by the parking company. Signage is in place but without the barrier up and with the chaos and difficulty parking is not readily realized. The parking company approach is really not conducive to wanting to go here again!
However, Stuart, (see the response below) could not have been more helpful in resolving this and therefore the rating has been increased from our initial assessment. There is a system in the hotel which if you know about prevents you getting a ticket in the first place and it would appear they are in the process of improving communication about this.
The event at the hotel venue was excellent and went really well with great catering and service and they would definitely use it again.

Great little Gym. Swimming pool and all facilities are very good.

We were in the Earls suite for a evening event, the place was lovely and clean. Although, by 9.30 the toilets were looking like a bomb had gone off in them. Also when our food came out, we were half way through our main course when our gravy came for our dinner. But staff were friendly and approachable. Great size dance floor for everyone to have a great boogie.

Myself and my daughter came for a 3 night stay for Easter. We were so happy with everything.The room was great the pool was very nice and all staff friendley.The breakfast was fantastic, lovely fresh fruit and pastries. Only comment was orange juice was room temp so not nice.We even got an Easter egg in our room on the day we arrived. Amazing stay and will be sure to book again. Thanks for making it so good the little touches are great.

The reception staff were fantastic and very accomodating to my work group

As always the staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. The room was excellent. We used room service which was delightful and service was very efficient. The breakfast was excellent. We always enjoy our visits to The Copthorne Hotel at Merry Hill and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Just remember, now the car park is under control by the notorious "parking eye" so make sure you put your car reg into the tablets at reception.

The room and bathroom was very clean. The staff was prompt and courteous. The internet was alittke slow.

Rooms a little dated, but does the job. We make the most of the leisure facilities whenever we stay here.

Car park needs better security 6 Van's broken into.

Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast and dinner was good. Pool nice and hot tub, sauna and steam room a little on the small side. Would come and stay again.

An amazing experience in the merry hill centre at the waterfront. Special mention for Phyllis on reception who completely ticked all the boxes during my stay. A big thank you too to the leisure centre team who went that extra mile. I will definitely be staying there again!

No Yorkshire pudding. Ask for some came back with some cold

Awful .. paid a lot of money to spend a nice weekend away .. firstly the TV didn't work which wasn't a big deal but paying a lot of money I expect everything to be spot on .. second LOUD music blaring all night, could hear every song .. and thirdly had loud noicyy drunk people banging a shouting all night long and very early hours on the morning .. very disappointomh and certainly not worth the money paid !!!! If I could give a 0 star I would

The stay was brilliant but service in the restaurant was awful, we we're ignored on sevral occasions and forgotten about twice.

Attended a day event here. The lunch was nice and made a pleasant change. As always reception smells of the swimming pool, and it isn't just a hint of an aroma either. No diet drinks available, which was pretty poor and a general atmosphere of not particularly welcoming.

Went for a Christmas party and it was a nice enough atmosphere, didn't think the food was anything special and we stayed over night and breakfast was the same. Room was nice, though :)

Went there with my partner for a nice night , people parting till 3 in the morning couldnt sleep would not go ever again, could not wait to get home

My daughter an l had a spa day at Imagine Spa. The gym was clean and not busy. The classes were of good quality and enjoyable. There was a steam room and sauna. Finally the treatments were short but therapeutic. On the whole a nice experience.

Was at friends 50th birthday party it was in the Earls Suite the staff was lovely & helpful didn't take too long to get served at bar(abit pricey)the room it's self was cold so some guests left early because of it the toilets wasn't checked as the hand towel bin was over flowing overall not bad

The hotel is fine. The staff is very friendly. The breakfast is good. The restaurant food in the evening is not on the level. Very much like menu meal. Poorly cooked and presented.

Terrible food, terrible drinks that were warm and flat

Lovely hotel, staff are so friendly and helpful. Wifi is bad and comes at an extra cost. Come with a car as it's on top of a hill and walking from the shopping centre is quite the chore. Otherwise, great hotel.

Expensive drinks, rooms need updating, patio area basic and uncomfortable. Breakfast service and facilities very poor. Eg. 1 hot drinks machine which kept developing faults. Too pricey for what you get.
Doesn't seem to be very 'disabled' friendly. Lots of steps.

Very good charity ball for retired greyhounds. A lovely venue and fantastic food for 200 there served with alacrity. Highly recommended.

Inside was a little tired in areas, however has very friendly staff and beautiful garden.

There was an error with my booking which was promptly resolved at checking. My keycard an other documents were already prepared which made check-in quick.

Heading up to the room showed that the hotel needs somewhat of a makeover with badly worn carpet and damaged walls in high traffic area. The room however was clean and well presented. It was clean and the carpet looked to be fairly new, just like the new pillows on the bed.

I headed down for dinner in the bar and although the menu is quite limited the food came promptly and was of fair to good quality. All the staff in the bar were very friendly and polite. However, staff in the restaurant are not always so hospitable from precious stays. The restaurant manager was actually on come dine with me, won, then had the prize money revoked because it was discovered that he was a restaurant manager. Food in the restaurant also contained undisolved stock cubes during a stay here in November 2014. The manager was quick to assure me it wasn't a stock cube and they didn't use them - this left me wondering what on earth it was!

Gym and pool facilities are good although I don't use them much.

I stayed in a club room and it was brilliant. Food excellent, service prompt, polite, knowledgable about their hotel, restaurant, and facilities. Will be back.

Room was lovely, wedding perfect, drinks at the bar... Expensive.

Stayed here many times before and are planning to come back again soon.
However, the room packages have changed recently and the club package is not as good ( in my opinion) as they were. The club lounge was a poor substitute for the full breakfast under the previous package. I think next time i will be downgrading room spec, but paying for the breakfast. Still a great place to stay with friendly staff, nice views over the canal and good location for shopping / cinema and even a train ride into central Birmingham.

The staff at Copthorne Hotels in Merry Hill did a really fantastic job of looking after the key workers carrying out essential works in my view. They had a system and protocols in place to ensure safety first, whilst still ensuring we can have a place to stay whilst away from home.
We are experiencing very challenging times and the team did a great job making me feel welcome and safe during my night in Merry-Hill.

Great venue for a wedding, although I would have like the bar to be stocked with some IPA's

Me and my partner have stayed here quite a few times, we regularly visit as a short break not too far from home. The staff are always happy and welcoming, the rooms are a good size, very clean and the spa is lovely too.

On this occasion the radiator in our room was not working, the staff did what they could and brought extra blankets for us to use but the stay would have been perfect if we had a nice warm room. The 'club lounge' that was part of the 'club package' was not always available at the specified times which was a bit disappointing as we were really looking forward to the new updated package incentives.

We'll be staying again soon.

Everything was amazing! The staff are lovely and approachable, food was delicious and the location is perfect, we stayed for 1 night for our Anniversary and all the staff made us feel very special and a very big thankyou to Donna who made our stay that little bit better. The hotel is brilliant for all types of staying and is just a fab hotel.

Stayed during a recent work trip. Room was nice and comfortable and had a good nights sleep. I managed to make use of the facilities and would highly recommend the pool and spa area. The food was great and had plenty of time to have a few drinks. The staff were very friendly and helful. Nothing was too much trouble. It was good value for money and I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a nice hotel near Dudley.

They make great coffee and comes with a great view of the waterfront. They have very friendly staff who help with everything from parking to finding you the best place to sit down. Mocha is great at this place. One of the best places to have coffee around the area

Good sized, clean rooms although bathrooms starting to look a little tired. Always a warm welcome from the reception team. High bar prices and only average bar food

Excellent Hotel. Friendly cheerfull staff, very clean, the rooms are well looked after albeit a bit aged due to fairwear and tear. Good bar and breakfast is excellent (self service) I have yet to try the main meals but I'm sure they'll be very good as well.

Enquired earlier this week about holding a Wedding reception - very prompt & courteous reply within half hour.
Visited the hotel today - very clean, well presented and professional/courteous staff.

Sampled some of the hot drinks - beautiful.
Again everyone we came in contact with was very courteous and polite, nothing was too much trouble.

Really looking forward to going here again

Very pleasant staff. The room was a roomy lovely view the only criticism is the pillows was so thin we both had the same neck problem other than that a nice hotel. The breakfast 1st class.
