This restaurant is a real gem in the middle of nowhere (apologies to the people of Hayesville but you truly are in the middle of nowhere).
The menu includes some items for foodies (such as escargot and foie gras) but also some classic steak dishes, fresh seafood, excellent vegetarian dishes and wonderful desserts. While some dishes have a distinct Louisiana influence, others are just inspired creations of Chef Dennis Barber. There is something for every taste.
We had a crawfish crepe and braised pork belly, a grilled caesar salad, and a spinach salad, scallops casino and duck breast, bananas Foster (flambeed table-side, which is always a treat) and a chocolate crepe. All fantastic.
The food is well prepared. Service is as top-notch as you would expect in a fine establishment in a big city. The atmosphere is cozy and uncomplicated. Dress code is informal, due to the location in the middle of the mountains and many jean-clad tourists, but some suits and ties can be spotted as well.
One recommendation if you plan on wandering through town while awaiting your dinner reservation, everything closes at 5:00 pm or at the latest 5:30. So make your reservation early, or get there just in time for your reservation. There are a couple antique stores in town that are worth the detour, so I suggest you just skip lunch and make your reservation for 5:00 pm...
