Nice amenities & small rooms. Beds are already made which is a plus, & clean bathrooms. Friendly staff.

Just a bad first impression, and warning to fellow travelers:

There is no check in attendant after 10pm. You need to call a dutch phone number to have the door opened or knock until a guest lets you in. Took about 25 minutes for someone to arrive. Nice hostel otherwise but not convenient for late night arrivals.

Cocomama was a wonderful hostel to stay. I stayed in "The Cheese" room which is a 4 bed dorm, the room is clean and has locker and socket points. Staff is helpful and they also organise activities every night which is cool. The common area is great to socialise with other guests. The tram runs right outside the Hostel so you can reach anywhere in the city easily. I loved the Hostel and would definitely recommend.

It was alright. The room, bed and the toilet facilities are just fairly fairly clean. Accommodating staff. Not great but usable kitchen and cooker. Accessible to buses to go to the central station and city centre and rent a bike. Quiet and seem safe location. If all u need is to shower and sleep, not fancy but reasonable price to stay

Clean, house-vibe hostel with decent beds (comfy mattresses but no curtains or individual outlets or lights) location is quiet and convenient. The hosts were phenomenal and made great conversation. The breakfast definitely needs some work - disappointed for the price.

Stayed 3 nights here in a 4 person dorm. The major drawback to this place is location, since it's far out and only 1 real tram to it. But, everything else makes up for it because this place really has a feel of home or community. The staff was excellent, the common areas are fantastic and homey, and the beds were comfortable. They did my laundry for 6 euro which was awesome for a service and it was done well. The lockers were a bit small for my bags, and one of the roommates was super loud in the mornings. Overall great experience, I would recommend them if you're looking for a less party atmosphere and more quiet and chill one. I stayed at uptown flying pig one night and this place was way better on all levels.

My two friends and I planned a 10 day trip to Barc...

My two friends and I planned a 10 day trip to Barcelona and Amsterdam for our February break. We had originally booked accomodations through Air BnB which was great for our first stop. However, although advertised as downtown Amsterdam, clean, and safe, in asking my Dutch friend we were disturbed to find out that it was essentially in the ghetto of Amsterdam, and a solid 15 min DRIVE into downtown. Panicked, my friends and I searched for a new place to stay, but with two days until we were supposed to arrive, everything was either booked or FAR too expense. The cheaper options were even further from downtown.
We originally we hesitant about booking a hostel because we had heard horror stories from other friends. But when we came across Cocomama we took the leap, as it had availability for the three of us in the same room, for 5 days, and the price could not be beat especially for the location that is maybe a 10 minute walk from downtown.
When we arrived, we were shocked to walk into a mansion of a town house, perfectly clean, welcomed by two of the friendliest people, let alone staff members I have ever met in my life. The two of them (I forget their names unfortunately) walked us through Cocomama and told us the hilarious history of the building. They then gave us keys to our rooms which were PHENOMINAL triple decker bunk beds built into the rooms, with curtains to close yourself off from others when you would like, lights in your 'pod' so you can stay up and read, and perfectly comfortable matresses. They then gave us maps of Amsterdam, and told us some of the fun things to do, as the people who run Cocomama (who are in their late 20's, early 30's probably) live in the city themselves. With the map, they showed us all of the guided tours and fun activities that the staff run themselves throughout the city which all Cocomama stayers AND THEIR FRIENDS could sign up for.
The absolute greatest two aspects of Cocomama however are:
1) They do your laundry for you!!! If you would like, while you and your friends are out exploring, the staff take your dirty clothing to a laundrymat down the street. By the time your back, all of your clothes are back, clean, and FOLDED in your room... which is just the greatest thing ever.
2) The staff are fun! They do not care if you want to invite friends over, there is a large common room for everyone to gather in, that doesn't let noise escape to the rooms upstairs who may want some peace and quiet. I think we met up with 20 of our friends, literally, and had them all over for drinks before going downtown. Not only did the staff love it, but they joined in with their friends, and other stayers came down with THEIR friends.

For someone who was very wary of hostels, Cocomama has completely changed my opinion, and makes me think that hostels are actually the way you should stay in a city, especially if you are a young traveller who is paying their own way, and looking to be social. Very highend, very fun, and we met so so many amazing people.

Thank you very much Cocomama, I really hope to come back some day soon!

It was a simple hostel and it was beautiful in the hostel and there was a bathroom in the room. I walked a little from the metro station, but I didn't care because there was no dangerous atmosphere.

Such a friendly place and great for first-time solo travelers! Staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the cool places to go, both touristy and non-touristy. Absolutely loved my stay here, to the point that I didn t want to leave when it was time to check out! They do have a cat that stays in the common area though, so if you have bad allergies I would be careful with that. My allergies are very mild so I could handle it without medication.

Amazing stay. I generally don't do hostels, but this is more like a hotel than anything else. Staff is GOLD. Don't look any further if you're looking for an affordable place to stay where you want to feel at home (and not alone). Loved their communal living room and kitchen. There's a relax, warm and homy feel to this place.

+ small, clean, friendly helpfully fun staff, garden, good beds and ensuits, quiet, nice kitchen/lounge area, bike hire, great vibe. The building itself is cool and has a cool history. Good price for what you get. Outside the loud centre which is actually a good thing in Amsterdam.
- nothing

BONUS - house cat!

a very homely hostel, the staff always willing to help you and let you know what to do in amsterdam. a beautiful kitchen / living room, small rooms but they are just for sleeping, each room with private bathroom. The hostel mascot is the real king. near the tourist points of the city. the best stay, I would stay there again. 100% recommendable

One of the best hostel that I ve stayed in! The staff are amazing (Thank you Shae, you re amazing, hope to see you again soon!! ) When she hand the map to us, she explained to us in detail about the places to visit and hangout at, which helped us a lot!

They have a common area to hangout downstairs, and people can easily get along with the cosy atmosphere, they have board games which you can play together too. They also have a friendly cat that walks around (and he loves cuddles and hugs!)

Coco mama offers private and dorms (4 bed and 6 bed) and they have free breakfast every morning!

I ll definitely stay again when I visit Amsterdam. Thank you coco mama!

Cocomama was a great first hostel experience! Stayed in a 4 bed dorm. Room and washroom were super clean. Beds were really comfortable, with a great duvet! The thing about this hostel is that it has a really relaxed vibe and it is the reason I stayed here. You can always find people hanging out in the common area to chat to and play games with if you want to be social. The staff also were super friendly and were really helpful with tips on what to see and do (they give you a little map and sit down with you when you check in). Oh, and Joop the cat!!

stayed four nites at end of april 2017 in one of the private rooms. lovely place and the people who work here are great. everyone very welcoming and helpful. good location. if you like to walk, you can get to many areas of interest, museums and restaurants on foot. comfortable common room and well-equipped kitchen. didn't get to enjoy garden in the back because of chilly/wet weather but looks very inviting. highly recommend this "boutique hostel"

Almost feel bad leaving a review, as i do not want this place to get spoiled with too many guests. Place was fantastic. Clean. Staff was extremely polite (as it seemed all dutch were) and helpful! 10/10 best place I ve stayed. They even provide a little proprietary map with some of the staff s favorite places around town. Beds have usb hookups. I found it very easy to walk around town from this location, though i like exploring that way. Occasionally took an uber across town if i wanted to get to the train station say. People in common area were quiet and respectful, some casual conversation and was easy to meet people to go out with. Little lockers in room big enough to fit my 40L bag and small carry on bag as well. Thank you cocomama for making my solo travel experience so wonderful! Please don t change.

One of the best hostels I ever lived in my life. Clean, good kitchen and living room (similar to the one you can find at your own home). The people working there is awesome, they do their job splendidly and they will make sure you feel like at home in all ways.
Sometimes they cook delicious pancakes on the morning.
The location is pretty convenient as many important locations from the city are very close in walking distance.
They also have a beautiful (but lazy!) cat.
I miss you and I m sure I will go back there as long as all of you are still working there.
All the love.

Super comfortable and clean, the only thing very bad is that you can touch roommates who visit Amsterdam for drugs and arrive making a lot of noise when you are asleep or with the smell of marijuana ... Take precautions with your personal belongings, they tried to open us the locker candidate

Incredible and accommodating! My husband and I stayed in the private Tulip room (which is located downstairs and included a private bathroom) for 5 nights.

Loved the level of privacy, especially for a hostel!

The location is PERFECT. We were able to walk everywhere in the city from one end to the other and felt like amazing restaurants and attractions were always accessible.

My only complaint is that the bed was not very comfortable... I could feel the springs when I slept and am sore on both of my sides now. I hope that they upgrade their beds soon.

Entrance was a little confusing, or maybe I was just dazed from traveling and then navigating Amsterdam. Turns out there's a small black plaque next to the door with a bell. Other than that - great hostel, great common areas, rooms are small but I was only it to sleep. Beds have curtains and basically wooden "pods." Mixed crowd of tenants from solo adults to groups of students. Joop the cat was the best part though.

My first experience in a hostel - it's quiet and very clean, and they have a cat named Joop. Events and tours are organized every evening, if there's enough interest. I'm inclined to try hostels elsewhere, but experienced hostel-goers say this one is the cleanest and most comfortable, which I am inclined to believe.

BE AWARE: Unsafe, unclean and unprofessional place...

BE AWARE: Unsafe, unclean and unprofessional place. Long story short I got my laptop stolen at this place from inside my closed suitcase which was in my locked personal room. No one of the staff could tell me how someone got inside my locked personal room and was able to open my closed suitcase to steal my laptop from it, all I got from the staff was that they when inside to clean and maybe the door did not close after them. I did not get any refund for the stolen laptop which was with all of my personal projects. I am truly disappointed from the way the staff handled this issue caused only by them, they did not take any measure to resolve this issue and after weeks of emailing them 10+ times all I got was a 50% refund of my stay which is not even a one tenth of the value of what was stolen from my PERSONAL room.

If you value your safety and belongings avoid this place. The staff needs to understand that the thing that most matters is their customers. Also the photos that you find on their website are at least few years old, the rooms are way dirtier than what you will see in the photos.

Nice people who run the hostel. In the lower part of the house there is a room with a kitchen, dining table and sofa.

But compared to the pictures, it's all a bit down. With the pictures everything looks happy and clean. In reality, it's all a little different. But otherwise there are no points of criticism.

Me and my mates stayed in July and it was sick! We had a four bed dorm to ourselves, the stairs were like leg day every day but so worth it. Hostel was literally 10 minutes walk from everywhere we wanted to go, and the free breakfast was banging! We ate so many pancakes and syrup. Big shout out to Joey and Cass for helping us out, they know so much about the city (especially if you wanna go to some good coffeeshops) definitely gonna be back next year.

Stayed here for Kings Day 2018. I liked that it was a little out of the main drag so you could escape the madness. Our six-person room was a little tight, especially in the mornings when everyone was trying to get ready. Not a lot of room to move around and get your things together. Beds were comfortable for a hostel and the staff was nice. Breakfast is free (and decent). House cat named Joop is super friendly.

Great staff with chill common room area and kitchen. It's only a 20 min walk from the main tourist area. Room was a bit cold with some noise from the street but very clean. Bed was comfortable with burch tree bed post which gave a nice homie vibe. Staff is very helpful with ideas on what to see and where to eat.

Very nice little hostel. Is a real insider tip for every young, open-minded and interested traveler.
The staff is very nice, everyone does everything here. The rooms are clean, the beds in the 6-bed room are extremely comfortable. It is cleaned daily.

In the basement there is a living room with kitchen, large dining table and sofa area.

If you have to like everything, there is not something for everyone.

Very nice and cozy hostel. For every young, open-minded and interested traveler an insider tip.
The staff is polite and most of them are really motivated - everyone does everything. The rooms are clean, the beds of the 6-bed-room are surprisingly comfortable. The room and the bathroom is cleaned daily.

In the basement is a living room with kitchen, big table to eat and a couch area.

One have to like it but it probably isn't something for everyone ...

This is seriously the best hostel experience I've ever had. The room was nice, the staff helpful, and the price is great as well. I will be staying here if I ever come back to Amsterdam, no contest. Location is close enough to walk to all of the sites in about 15 minutes, but the pro move is to rent a fixed gear bike and ride that into the city for the day.

Outstanding hostel, staff are so friendly and helpful, rooms are great with super comfy beds :) Great living area with plenty to do, kitchen is very well equipped, both food and utensil wise. beautiful garden out the back. Totally relaxed atmosphere with a bundle of fun mixed in, cannot fault cocomama on anything at all, i will most definitely be back :) Slightly dearer than other hostels, but you get what you pay for, and i'm happy to pay just that little bit more if means i get a home away from home :) Superb, was very sad i had to leave!
