They were having a record and cd sale at the basement today so this review is solely my experience for the day itself, and not much on movies. But the Record fair was great, many pre-owned CDs and vinyls in good condition and at great prices! Had a good haul today.

Also came here to watch Avengers Endgame and enjoyed myself. Students get a discount too!

I love it here! Me and my partner went during the evening for a cuppa and it is the perfect way to wind down after a busy day. The decor of the building mixed with jazz music makes for a sophisticated and relaxing atmosphere. The only reason I haven't given it five stars was because the person who served us wasn't very friendly.

In the cafe the only problem is it being too busy! Well maybe the size of a latte too, a large being a regular anywhere else. Food and drink selection great. Real ales are good. Personally not a fan of the pizzas but everything else on the menu is yummy. Deserts are brownies etc, and I would love to see cakes here to...
I enjoy the cinema, good size screens, comfy seats, bit of a trek if you need the loo mid film.
Like most cinemas, the price of some snacks and drinks are high. But for me I love having a cinema in the middle of town so don't mind paying a bit more and it doesn't deter many!

Seriously disappointed with the cafe. My friends had pancakes w blueberries which they couldn't eat much of as they were so stodgy. Ruined the experience for me as I had the only decent meal. They offered to take it away, but not to refund. We won't be back

York's 'indie' cinema. Screen 3 is on the small side. The bar is great, with a lovely terrace having views along the river, though pricy. The intimate basement venue hosts regular top quality comedy & jazz gigs.

Nice little cinema in the city center, they always play the big titles. Very good location, decent prices, they have a bar where you can something to drink etc. Staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely I will be going back

An interesting building being the old Yorkshire Herald. A nice place for a drink or food before watching something with fine views of the river. There are 4 screens and they sometimes have older films. Opera, ballet and theatre are also shown from major sources of these art forms.

My favourite cinema in York! Right in the city centre, lively cafe with terrace next to the river, nice simple food and coffee/tea, and free art exhibitions with pieces for sale. Good-sized screens, very clean. Nice toilets as well.
And for those interested, music and other cultural events in the bar downstairs.

I've had a mixed experience here seeing a film.
The first time I went it was amazing, the screen was big and there was enough legroom for my 6"4 partner, and the sound quality was amazing too.
The second time I went, the film had to be paused twice, they forgot to turn the lights out in the cinema, there were people getting drunk in the seats and walking in front of the screen and projector.
Would give 2 stars, but my first experience was so good it pulled it to 3.

Fantastic cinema!! Great food, lovely bar excellent staff!! It's always our first choice of cinema in York.. My only complaint (aimed at picture house cinemas) is, we had a joint membership for years.. You changed your policy to memberships called "member plus one", it sounds similar, but with only one membership card..every time I order a drink at the bar, instead of simply showing you my membership card you have to search for my details, as now, only my wife holds our member card, this is so inconvenient!!!! So half the time I simply don't bother with the discount, that I am paying for with our membership. Why did you do this??? It was so much less complicated before..

Bought the membership, some free films and discounts included. Great Central location, great staff, menu is a bit different, so it makes a nice change, complimented with good drinks selection

Lovely local cinema, not many screens so not many films on, but they show interesting ones and it's well maintained and a pleasant experience. They have a good bar with tasty food and decent wine list, you can take your drink into the showing.

By far the best cinema in the centre of York, City Screen offers excellent deals to members as well as possessing three excellently designed screens. Booking in advance strongly recommended for popular screenings.

The cinema is great, the food is great, the service is not so good. We went on a Saturday and there was a 15 minute gap between when breakfast and lunch can be ordered - after being served so slowly we went over the breakfast allotted time, we then had to sit and wait until they would even let us place orders for lunch - which then took ages as (and I quote) "we just got loads of orders all at once". Not exactly surprising given all the people waiting an extra 15 minutes to order! Next visit their highly advertised mulled cider, at 6pm on a cold day, was "just heating up, it'll be 5 minutes" for half an hour. Need to employ some better staff and/or give them better training.

It's a big, spacious cafe bar in the centre of town with a great cinema and riverside seating. We all like the sofas, the cake, the light. Usually has interesting art work too. It's a bit of a family fave in town. Good place for loos too.
