Usually very good, but unfortunately today at a Screen Arts encore of Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake, not such a good experience.
Firstly, projection problem meant we were put in smaller screen and not in pre-booked seats.Then a delay in starting, then another problem in last act with fuzzy image and schrunken screen!
Refunds given, but disappointing in the end.

The attitude of their senior staff is vile. Vote with your wallet and take your business elsewhere!

Near perfect art house cinema. Seen many rare films down the years that I thought I was going to miss
Many great memories with films that feel glorious,in comfy seats, and good production.
But I always seem to get the annoying people sitting near me.

Went to the place only twice but enjoyed both times! The funny fact is that I went to watch the first Avengers twice :)

A great cinema with a lot of great features. It has comfortable seating and a good range of films are shown. There's a nice cafe for food and drink, and a club for different events. I regularly visit to see one of the films being shown and they have a lot of classic films on too, so I'm often able to experience something great that I missed the first time around, or relive past enjoyment on the big screen.

Great indie-feeling picturehouse, despite being part of a (smaller) chain. Good food, nice theatres.

Really positive atmosphere. Great bar and cafe. Not cheap but the experience is a quality one. Good screen sound and visibility. Seats comfy.

Friendly staff, good food and drink, excellent member benefits and most importantly great sound and picture quality. The seats are very comfortable as well.

I got membership shortly after moving to the city. The staff now know me on sight. Although quite small, they show all the major films, plus independent titles and screen arts. I have rediscovered my love of theatre, dance, opera and special exhibitions thanks to this. There's also a rather nice riverside bar which is great off-peak, but can get too crowded and noisy at times.

I love picture house it is really good the nutcracker and the four realms is a must see!

Wide selection of shows and much more relaxed than big cinema complexes

Lovely independent cinema. The building is beautiful, staff are friendly and the experience is usually great.

Watched Dunkirk on 35mm screen. Fantastic film in a great location. Only downside was the cost of the tickets

My friend and I love to pop into the cafe for a coffee before we start our shopping. Always try to sit outside looking over the river. Nice place...

Three screens which vary in size and a nice friendly staff. A nice place to go to.

Great independent cinema with a nice bar to have a drink in before/after. The choice of films was more limited, but it seems like they also do a lot of great events.

A good little cinema tucked away in a little street.

Went to go and see Parasite and it was not really the right movie for me hense the fact that I had to cover my eyes for half of it- too gory! However like usual the service at City screen was on point and the facilities were great. You should definitely go :)

Seats a bit too hard for a long sit and limited legroom. Having said that, the place was spotless and the sound was good

Good choice of films, which are not always the latest Hollywood blockbuster. Choice of different coffees and alcoholic drinks including real ales. Cinema itself was perhaps too hot.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Also seats are comfy and spacious.

Cinema is decent, as you'd expect. Bar area is quite nice too for a quick drink while you wait.

Favourite cinema in the world! Great staff. Great food and drink and as its an independent cinema it has great movies!!

Comfy seats & a good variety of screenings. We have a couples membership which gives us (and guests) a good discount every time we visit - including the delicious food & drinks served in bar too! Also a 25% discount at Gourmet burger which is a minutes walk away & serves great burgers.

Best multi screen cinema in the area. Good choice of different films.

Nice little cinema in the city centre.
There is a bar/cafe with lovely views ver the river.
The basement often attracts comic gigs which is worth looking out for.
The cinema has a kids movie every Saturday with activities for the kids to join in with.
It's considerably quieter during the day.

Been going for years.Lovely comfortable place to watch films.Always good selection of quality films.Also great place to go if you want a pot of tea.

A little pricey, but worth it considering the location and amount of activities that take place here beside the cinema.

Tremendous little cinema, great atmosphere, very friendly staff.

Could do with forces discount really missing a bit of a trick there gents.

Could look at this one of two ways. On the one hand, I sat in there and my little boy had his tea and I didn t have to buy anything for me. So somewhere free, dry and warm for that. On the other hand, I d jumped on a table as it was quite busy to start with. 30 minutes it took to clear some plates. In silence. Then 5 minutes later collect some more. Then leave the rest. While clearing other tables. I d have had tea and cake if the opportunity came up. But staff were clearly happy for lone parent and child to sit among other people s dirty plates and glasses. Cafe policy or lack of training?

Good place to have a snack and then see a film in York's old quarter.

Cinema too expensive except daytime Thursdays and early Mondays. Cafe food indifferent and expensive but view good. Cafe staff could be more helpful.

Pricey but great value for money with wide range of films, from current to classic. Very trendy if a bit hipster. A real night-life venue.

Although City screen is my cinema of choice and I have been a member for several years I am very disappointed at the present booking service. The process has been horrendous for the last few films I have wanted to book.
I have tried several times to book for The Lady in the Van to no avail, each time getting through to the purchase screen and then being unable to complete the transaction.
I had a similar experience last week, trying to book for Suffragette, finally having to go to the cinema to purchase the tickets.
Please get your on line booking system sorted out!

Great seating picture and sound but quite expensive

The screens aren't the biggest but it's all round great cinema experience. Can't fault it.

Small picturehouse with a good range of films with a nice bar

A relaxed venue on the banks of the Ouse. Great location just off Coney St. Shows most mainstream cinema and some interesting indie films.

A nice little film house and pub in the city centre.

Nice bar overlooking the river with a good selection of drinks. You can sit and drink here even if you are not visiting the cinema. Some of the drink prices seem a little expensive. Nice atmosphere and views

Cleaner than Vue. Better seats. Doesn't have sticky floors like Vue.

Perfect to visit for food and drink, even if you don't watch a movie while you're there

Lovely cinema much bigger than I expected with it being placed right in the centre of town. Was lovely to go there this evening. The staff were amazing and would do anything to help make it easier and help find you deals to make your visit that bit cheaper.

Cinema is in city centre so there is no carpark within walking distance.

A lovely atmosphere, can sit outside watching the world go buy. Lovely staff, limited drinks menu.

It's a telly fun place to go especially with friends although like any cinema it can get a little expensive

Nice cinema experience with a good cafe-bar out front. Reasonable pricing, and ability to buy alcoholic beverages to drink in the film.
