Absolutely worth the trip. It s not an overly large gallery but the exhibitions and art work was worth looking at. For not really wanting to go in I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it!

Although the place is not large, the display content is very exciting, and the space for viewing is also very enough. It is a very friendly place that is worth staying for a long time

They have a great cafe & bar on the ground floor, nice quiet place to have a chat.

Excellent gallery. Spacious modern building with an eclectic and interesting art selection. Could easily spend a whole day there. Free guided tour if desired.

Excellent collection of NZ artists to rival some of the best works I've seen in the big European art galleries.

Once again, it is pitiful that tourists can only recall the destruction sites and do not value places like this.

Great permanent collection. We we're lucky enough to be here for the Frances Hodgkins exhibit (better than Picasso) and a lecture from the curator. Free admission, too!

A lovely place to visit, especially when the weather is crummy. A nice Gallery, you can take pictures of almost everything inside. A nice open space to sit end enjoy the ambiance. It's also free which is really lovely for a traveller on a serious budget.

Manageable size, free, and filled with interesting contemporary exhibits. Really enjoyed the Max Glimblett exhibit. Great way to spend a few hours.

The building and grounds is fantastic and its central location is ideal. The staff really make an effort to explain the works but be warned not all exhibitions are suited to everyone's tastes. A great mix of art in central Christchurch. Its free!

Some good, some art I really don't get. Yellow squares baffles me I'm afraid.

Lovely collection of arts. Also on the ground floor they had a setup to entertain the kids while the adults to take turn to view the art collection

A shocking use of such a great building. Only 2 displays worth looking at and as for the dot plot painting, on the wall, at an enormous cost, what a waste.

Went to a board game event there. Wonderful space.

The Christchurch Art Gallery is a major gateway to the art of Canterbury and Aotearoa New Zealand. There are always exhibitions of new and challenging work as well as retrospectives. The gallery is also architecturally exciting and often is a venue for lectures and film screenings of niche topics. Last but certainty not least are it's bookshop, restaurant and research libraries.

An absolute asset to Christchurch. Fantastic staff that genuinely want to help and promote the exhibitions. A great variety of works.

Fantastic morning spent around the gallery looking at the art works. The second floor with the impressionist art was simply stunning.

Highly recommend this for anyone.

Two floors of exhibits, good mix of classic and more modern artworks. It is by donation and seems very well looked after. Parking below the building is very cheap.

Take the cable car up and walk down through the gardens.

Excellent art gallery in the heart of Christchurch. Architecturally very interesting and valuable proposals. The entrance of the permanent is free so it is a must to visit.

Always a great place to spend some time in the city. The ever changing exhibitions are top quality. There is also some fun games and blocks to kill some time under the stairway. Highly recommend a visit and don t forget to make use of the parking under the building which is very affordable

The Christchurch Art Gallery is home to a substantial public art collection, and also showcases various national and international exhibitions throughout the year. It opened in 2003, replacing the city s former Robert McDougall Art Gallery.

For me Not that great, but im Not a big Fan of modern Art. The older Art was nice
