Eh. It's hit or miss. Sometimes it's ok. Other times absolutely ghastly. Consistently lower end for Chinese. Even menus have stuff splattered and stuck on them. The drinks are good and strong and reasonably priced. Good place to get a buzz and hang out. I have never seen anyone get shut off. They will let you get hammered (if you are into that sort of thing)

Friendly service, generous portions, and the food is good. The lunch specials are an outstanding deal at $5.00, which includes rice. Most of the clients seem to be local, even though a major freeway is nearby.

50/50 half the food was really good and half was not and very greasy. The place was not the cleanest. The waitress disappeared for too long. We ate in the bar area and the lights were to bright. Will not be returning.

All of us ( 4 adults , 3 kids) were all disappointed in our food. The kids had fries and chicken nuggets which looked like they were reheated. I had sweet n sour chicken which turned out to just be long chicken fingers with sauce over them, no pineapple or green peppers....The highchair are filthy and the first one had no safety belt. Toilet in women's bathroom wobbles.
The upside is prices are low , waitress was nice, and general appearance minus highchair was clean. We won't be going back.

I love China Way. I even just reserved a place there for my wedding rehearsal dinner. I also love how, aside from one person, the only people who give this place a negative review are anonymous.

This is easily my favorite Chinese. I'm heading to Maine this July and I'm more excited to get this Chinese food than I am to see my friends and family. I'm an absolute egg roll and pork fried rice crack head and this place is my plug. Do yourself a favor and buy like 6 specials...

4 of our tea cups had black residue inside, our water cups had what looked like slimy paper on them possibly straw paper from the dishwasher. My wife's plate had stuck food on it. The waitress talked my wife out of ordering herself a dinner because she believed that my kids and I would have plenty of food from 1 pupufor2 platter. She literally told my wife that you don't need to order one for yourself. My wife was so angry she didn't bother to eat. Between my daughter and I we ate 1 chicken finger, the beef and pork than once I got to the wings I broke one open and it was bleeding and very undercooked. I've worked in many kitchens and undercooked meat is a huge no no. Undercook or raw chicken is usually something that gets you fired. I took the uncooked chicken outback to the cooks and I was asked by the guy on the wok what I would like in exchange...I left the kitchen and my family and I walked to the hostist to discuss the issue a lady took "inventory" of what we ate and charged us for an order of dumpings that my son ate. She tried charging 1/4 the price for the platter and I said no way. This place is horrible and unsanitary please do not feed this food to your children. Adults if you enjoy food poisoning feel free.

Sadly, I had to revise my last posting because the quality of the food that they prepare is highly questionable. I read over some of the bad reviews and seems like other individuals agree with me. I didn't feel well after eating here two of the three times visiting this place.

I so badly want this place to be good because its local and convenient, but the few times we have gone have been horrible.
On the plus side...the lunch specials are a great price ($4.95) and a lot of food.
The downsides and why we will never come back.
-the staff were not all that friendly. The hostess did not smile at us once. I was uncomfortable the moment were not greeted. The waitress seemed like she was having a bad day and we were an inconvenience to her. They both seemed like they hated being there. No smiles or pleasant conversation. Your food service is basic here.
-the food is absolutely terrible. Tastes like reheated frozen food. No flavor at all. Maybe I have been spoiled by some of the places (Kobe in Bangor, Wei Lei in Auburn) I've gone where fresh homemade chinese food is served... But this is absolutely awful.
- The restaurant feels sad and uninspiring. The decor is outdated and very very old (it hasn't really changed in the 30 years since I was a kid). Nothing matches and things are torn and stained. There was an old dilapidated plastic fountain in the dining room. I will not say it is not clean because my table and booth seemed clean...but it feels like it is dirty because it is just so worn.
-Parking is horrible and unsafe
-Finally we needed a high chair. They brought us this contraption from the 60's that rolled and wobbled. Very tippy and absolutely unsafe. There was a lap strap but not a strap that goes between a child's legs to prevent them from sliding out of the chair. I had to hold it through the whole meal so my 1 year old would not tip it over.
So...I highly suggest you pass on Chinaway or if you just HAVE to hit that craving then drive to Bangor for your Chinese food fix. Just Yuck here in Newport...which is sad.

The taste of the food was bad and they are charging extra to get rice in a poopoo platter which has always came with rice. What used to be a nice place to get good food has gone way down hill and has gotten greedy!

Good for dine in or takeout. Sometimes a little slow, but a great place for a medium sized group to a large group. We had 9 people in our last group, at times have had as many as 20 people and still had good service.
