Pretty store but everything is overpriced. Went with 2 others and none of us bought anything. No one spoke to us when we came in or told us to come back. Cute small town setting.

Dear Hallmark Channel -- You're next Christmas, Fall, Spring, Summer, any type of family movie should be filmed in the beautiful town of Ashland where all of the store owners take great pride in their businesses...including this beautiful gem called Salt Creek Mercantile!! If you've never visited this store and others, like Willow Point Gallery, Postscript, The Olde Farmhouse, Gift Niche, Cheri'Os, Glacial Till, Ashland Pharmacy, Raikes Beef Company, Blooms Floral and Gifts, The Brick House, Cooper Studio and Gallery (to name a few)...go experience what hometown pride and hospitality looks and feels like!
This shop in small town Nebraska has serious Instagram vibes and inspo!! Love that the furniture and candles are all local and hand made by a family. Truly a treasure for our state
Nice place to check things out that are not easily found in other stores
My mother and my aunt love your store so much. They find every product you sell absolutely beautiful.Your products are of quality and intrinsically beautiful. They don't want you to change a thing.
Salt Creek Mercantile is the full of charming decor and beautifully crafted, one-of-a-kind items. Every time I have visited the staff have been friendly and helpful. The owners are always getting new merchandise in and have even had very unique vintage pieces for sale. We are so lucky to have this shop in our small town!
Beautiful decor, kitchen, furniture store on a bustling classic Main Street corner in Ashland. We were blown away on how nice/unique the shop was with impeccable displays and good prices. Be sure to come out and see the store during the holiday season! You won t be disappointed.
My sisters and I shopped here a month or so ago and it was such a well-organized and fun decorative shop. We will for sure be back in the future!
Awesome items. Love it! It is absolutely a must go to. #cometoashland
I love everything about this place! From the smell of the candles as you walk in the door to the unique and beautifully made products, the experience is always 5 star! Each visit I have been greeted with a cheerful hello and have felt right at home. My fave visit was when my daughters and I planted succulents and herbs. We were able to have an enjoyable mother/daughter date right in our own hometown, and we were able to do something a little bit different! Thank you, Ashley, for sharing your heart and soul with us through Salt Creek Mercantile!
Adorable little shop in Ashland, NE. So glad a friend recommended this place reasonably priced and beautiful items that add a rustic, modern look to one s home. Will be revisiting this place for sure.
I ve only shopped online, but love their candles. Tupelo Honey & Hello Darling are my personal favs. Great throws and good burn times too.
A wonderful surprise I didn't know it was in Ashland and I will be back to buy candles and other Mercantile that's there it's a wonderful place
This store is beautiful - I kind of want to live there! We are new to the Ashland community and I absolutely love this store. The gals are so friendly, prices are reasonable for such nice products and my favorite part is the in store made candles that smell so great.
This was my experience with Ashley at Salt Creek Mercantile after ordering two wooden shelves. After submitting payment on May 21st through Paypal Ashley said the shelves would take around 2 weeks. After a month of waiting with no word from Ashley I reached out to get an update. She didn't respond so I followed up 4 days later and she replied "they are in progress." I asked for an ETA. She replied "they should ship next week." 8 days passed with no update so I reached out again asking for an update to which she replied "we are only operating with 2 carpenters right now and they re trying to keep on things. My guesstimates are just that, but I ll make sure someone jumps on it the beginning of the week. If that doesn t work I can refund." That was 7 weeks after I submitted payment. I requested a refund and was not refunded the full amount(Paypal fees). I had to follow up two more times to get the full refund.
I absolutely love this store! Their style and variety of farm house goods and decor and is amazing! I will be returning to this store each time I m in town to collect a few more goodies!
This store is a small town gem. They have beautiful merchandise and the candles are divine- my favorite is Lanai but I have so many more on my list to try! Also, the lady working there the day I came in was so kind when my kids were tearing around the store. I was sweaty and out of patience with them but she made me feel welcome and even gently told me she missed her kids being that age, antics and all.
Note: 18 positive reviews came within 24 hours after my previous update (see the end of the review)--"shoppers" that apparently came on a day when the store was closed. I cry foul. But that's okay. I get it. Small town cliques. Part of their charm.
The building is beautiful and historic, though I don't know the history of it. Being on the corner, I'm guessing it was originally a clothing or grocery store in the late 1800s.
The outside sign stated something about locally handcrafted furniture. It also states it is a store for decor and home goods. I thought I would find locally crafted goodies, but it appears the only thing local is the candles, made in-store. The decor items I picked up other than candles all had tags that said Made in China or Product of India. Far from the local goods and crafts I was hoping for. And the items all seem to be very colorless and drab. Light wood tones, browns, some faded blues. It seemed that all the merchandise would fit well in one particular home with one particular design theme. Nothing more or interesting unless that one design aesthetic is your vibe.
Edit: lowered to one star, due to the owner's critical response, objecting to my observation that all the items seem to be very colorless and drab and reprimanding me for not asking where the local items are. Perhaps if they want to indicate on their window that they carry local items, they need better signage inside the store rather than requiring customers ask where they are. Perhaps engaging customers to find out what they're looking for rather than waiting for customers to interrupt what you're doing to ask. Perhaps taking feedback in a review as an opportunity to improve your marketing, customer service skills, and / or merchandising choices, rather than pushing the customer further away with passive-agressive criticism. I might have returned at a later time to see if the selection changed with the seasons. Stores like this can be especially fun at Christmas. But as it is, I'm taking my money elsewhere and recommend likewise to others.
Stopped into your store earlier this week, while having a girls day. There were five of us, we were the only ones in the shop at the time. We were not greeted. While your store is beautiful and four of us made purchases, I was really dissatisfied with the lack of interaction and barely a thank you for shopping with you. I read other reviews with the same experience and also read your reply. Instead of making excuses for behavior, use it as a way to improve. I love finding unique items, but I also love shopping and spending my money where I feel welcome!
I like visiting downtown areas across Nebraska, so when I saw this place, I decided to take a look, as I always like a good opportunity to get new ideas for my home.
The store is located in a good corner spot, nice visibility. Upon entering, I quickly noticed that many items are all the same shade of dismal grey. There were some items in a few other colors, but the same wave of, dull dreary color was everywhere. A few of the soap varieties were nice. Looking at the housewares, there was not much I would use in my home. I gained my practical side from my mother, which means that I prefer my decor to be items that can be used, not to sit forever gathering dust while attempting to look pretty.
After a short bit browsing, I noticed a woman making candles, so I went to take a look. I commented that I had not seen the candle making process before, but she did not seem too keen on engaging with me. She mentioned something about the two candle types, but not much else. As I was walking away, I clearly said thank you, but she did not deem me fit for a response.
In all, I gained little from this visit. The colors were lackluster, with the service being underwhelming. If this is all they can offer the locals, I know of many better places to shop to give me far better inspiration, with much improved customer service.
Edit: So I am not allowed to leave a review on why I do not like a store? Why are you so intent on attempting to disallow a dissenting opinion? I visited your store, so I have every right to voice what I think and how I feel about it. Other reviews I made on different businesses have been belittled before. All it serves to do is make me mad, because you have the audacity to belittle me when I give an honest review about your business.
When you open a business to the public, you take everything, good and bad. I can see you have the small-town mindset of thinking you can bully people into saying what you want. Well, guess what? I am an experienced reviewer on multiple social media platforms, so this is far from my first rodeo. My criticism is constructive, take it as a means to improve, instead of bashing anything you do not like. There is too much of that in society already, you do not need to add to it.
As you cannot remove it, this review will remain as a testament to your poor treatment of me.
Such a sweet store with the best candles around! Timeless pieces that can be dressed up and down. Love it!!
I am lucky to be right down the street from this dreamy shop, and I love love love walking inside. The owner, Ashley, has an incredible eye for merchandising and is doing a beautiful job of crafting an old-world Europe meets small town midwest atmosphere. Absolutely love the selection of bath products, and the handmade furniture and goods are so special.
This place... A slice of HGTV in the little cozy town of Ashland! From the inviting smells of the homemade candles to the romantically charming decor and the expertly crafted furniture I SERIOUSLY couldn't get enough of this store. Talked to a gal named Ashley who was both extremely witty and knowledgeable in the merchandise. Can't wait to go back to get another fix for my secret farmhouse design love!
Was so in love with the vibe of this whole store! Honestly, I wanted to buy everything in it - lol. It is so awesome to have this little unique corner right here in Ashland. Warm welcoming faces from the employees as well, very impressive!
A beautifully cultivated breath of fresh air, right in the heart of Ashland. From the hand-poured candles that make this space smell oh-so-divine to the handcrafted furniture, this is one of my favorite spots to drop in when I'm in Ashland. I love this place! <3
Bland, colorless displays. Repetition of materials. Not much variety. I expected a lot more. Found bored uninvolved staff.
Such a cute store. All the candles smell so good and the kitchen and other decor seem to be sustainably made and durable. Always a great experience!
Visited the store last September on a girls weekend trip. The place is awesome. I can t wait to go back. I really enjoy their page on Facebook. It s a must stop if you are in the area.
A beautiful space with dreamy items. Eye candy all around!
This is a beautiful store in downtown Ashland! Both the store front and the inside of the store make me feel like I have walked into a Hallmark movie! As a UPS driver in Ashland I bring packages in to Salt Creek Mercantile on a regular basis. This store is wonderfully decorated! It looks PERFECT! The store owner, Ashley, ALWAYS greets me when I walk in. I have NEVER felt like I was bothering her when I have questions about some of the items she has for sale. I have purchased several candles from this store and they are amazing! I had an issue with one of the candles so I contacted Ashley and without even seeing the candle she without hesitation told me to just stop in and she would GIVE me a new one. The issue with the candle was nothing more than the wick was way too long and needed to be trimmed. Problem solved! Who immediately offers you a replacement item without seeing the supposedly defective one first? Ashley does! I rate the customer service here A+! In almost 31 years of driving for UPS I would say Ashley is one of the most thoughtful, kind and sweetest young ladies I have met!
This is my absolute favorite store for decorating our home! My husband absolutely loves it too! Ashley has a fantastic eye and the furniture that they make is of the best quality! We adore our coffee table so much, and are so grateful for all of the beautiful things that Salt Creek makes!
Made a special trip from Lincoln just to shop at this store. It did not disappoint. Great place to do your holiday shopping. There s a little something for everyone. I even found the cutest wooden honey pot made from a (if I remember correctly) local barn that was torn down.
Such a great store! The furniture is absolutely gorgeous and made locally. The candles are made in the store and smell AMAZING. If you are a candle freak like me, you have to stop in here.
Salt Creek Mercantile is such a wonderful addition to Silver St in Ashland. The owner, Ashley, has an eye for beautiful things; it's stocked with so many unique items for just about everyone! The front window on main street changes with the season and definitely draws you in. Love this store!
I absolutely love this store! It's like our own little Magnolia Market right here in Ashland. I don't need Chip and Joanna Gaines, I have Salt Creek Mercantile! I love going in frequently to see what new items have arrived. The homemade candles are the best! I'm addicted to them! If you love the "farmhouse" style decor definitely take time to visit.
Magnolia feel, right here in the midwest! If your in or around Omaha, and a fan of Joanna Gaines like, "farmhouse" style decor, you will find the short drive to Ashland an easy and charming one. And, what you'll find when you arrive will be more than worth the wait. Large front windows flanking the original corner door (check out that hardware!) invite you to explore all the gorgeous goodies inside.
Upon entering, you smell the homemade candles, you can feel the soft fabric and yarns used on the pillows and blankets, and your eyes delight in the distressed wood and metal pieces, ready to transform any home into a farmhouse dream. There are many handmade items, and the signage and accents are distinctive and fairly priced.
The staff are friendly, too. They greet you upon entry, but leave you alone to look, feel and play. (My preference - they don't hover, but are available to answer questions or offer advice.)
You will love this store, no matter the season or reason for your visit. Those big store windows are changed up often to showcase their recent finds and holidays. Follow them on social media for engaging and eye-candy decor posts. Great find in Ashland, NE!
