Great site and fantastic views definitely still here again
Great campsite.facilities where very clean.if you can get a pitch at the top of the park the views are outstanding. We where in pitch 5
Second time we have stayed and not the last. Great site and near to Keswick.
The setting, and proximity of the site to Keswick is great, the washing facilities were modern, spacious and clean and the site was secure, tidy and well managed. This echoes what most reviews seem to indicate, however I initially dropped 2 stars based on my experience for the following reasons:
1. Staff were joyless and grumpy.
Great campsite with absolutely first class facilities. I think you should judge a campsite by is toilets and the toilets and showers here are excellent. Its dog and children friendly but with clear sign posted rules so everyone should be able to get on with each other. Great views from the campsite and very near Keswick.
We arrived at the park in a motorhome with all facilities but the park facilities were so nice, clean and spacious that we wanted to use them instead. Thoroughly recommend this park there is absolutely nothing i would change about it. Very attentive and friendly staff, very clean and great views. Nice and quiet with a quaint little village/town just around the corner
An amazing caravan and camping site that we use EVERTIME we come to the Lakes! The site is maintained to the highest of standards, toilets and showers always immaculate!
Hard standing pitches are very spacious. If you pick the right pitches, there are some unreal views, looking down across the lake... amazing site to wake up to!
Nice little shop that serves fresh locally farmed meats and diary, perfect for breakfast!
Also, it's a nice walk into Keswick!
Have stopped on this site for three years now, excellent facilities, great staff, good restaurant, fab views, a must to stay at when in the Lake District ( BOOK EARLY)
Great little campsite. Good Facilities. Can be difficult to get a level pitch if camping. Also the beautiful views are only available from certain areas of campsite.
Beautiful location overlooking Derwent water. Great facilities. Cater for tents, caravans, and glamping pods. We even had sunny weather. Approx 20 min walk into Keswick. Give it a go.
Absolutely fantastic. We stayed last minute in our motor home and what a great decision it was. The site is clean and friendly with fantastic views and set in the most idyllic location. Only downside is that we couldn't stay longer. We will most definately be returning though next year.
Brilliant site, lovely scenery, helpful staff, great facilities
Stunning park with lots of fantastic facilities really well built and well looked after and the views are incredible
Lovely location with fantastic views of the hills, very friendly reception, Site rules for covid were explained very well and everything was immaculate and cleaned thoroughly. Even the electrical points and taps outside were cleaned as soon as somebody left the site.
Some brilliant walks within 10 minutes of the site too like the walla crag
Fantastic site great views lovely showers and toilets
I stayed there for two night, good campsite & very good manage.
Staff, surroundings, shower block... all amazing. Thank you
Really lovely place nice views.camping here is excellent.
This is our first visit to Castlerigg Hall caravan site. Very friendly staff and helpful amenities are very clean and tidy. Site clean and tidy. If you like walking plenty of local walks. Keswick is only a 40 minute walk through the woods. WE will be returning.
This is our second year of coming to Castlerigg Hall and it does not disappoint.
Stunning views from here over Derwentwater. Camp site wonderful with great amenities.
Stayed in one of their family pods for a couple of days.
The last time I was at this site was about 1985 - It is safe to say it was almost unrecognisable!
Pod was great. Very clean, excellent heater with a view over lake Derwentwater (when it wasn't raining). There was no noise other than the birds and of course the odd bit of RAF.
Toilet blocks were the star. The best of any campsite I have ever been to by a long way. Yes you have to keep pushing the button in the shower but so what :-) Okay its a communal facility, not en-suite but the quality and cleanliness put a lot of expensive hotels to shame!
The site has a shop on site - It has a coffee machine! You can get pretty much anything to get you by there including booze.
The site is family run and everyone I had cause to interact with was pleasant without being in your face.
The site is about 2 miles from the centre of Keswick so no biggy. It was a tough climb after a meal and beer though. There is a footpath down the side of the site to Spring Lane. I think it took me about 30 minutes to get to the Dog and Gun but if you make a circuit of it going via the stone circle it was around an hour - still do-able for an evening stroll.
The site has wifi but there is a phone mast about 300m away. Although this detracted from the view I got an excellent 4G signal and had no issues running Netflix, Now TV and Plex
For me - Maybe not as convenient as camping and caravan Keswick but street ahead in just about every other way.
Lovely campsite. In our top 5. Great shower block.only anoying thing was push button shower which only stay on for very short time.
Beautiful cafe...lovely views, artistically decorated and warm reception from owners...we are regular visitors to this delightful little place
Superb!!! A most outstanding, beautiful park. Amazing facilities. A shop, a communal lounge area. Stay here!!!!
Very well kept and in a lovely location with views of hills and Derwentwater. Very good facilities.
One of our favourite camp sites in this part of the Lake District. Great shop and toilet block. Has a nice onsite restaurant and there is a pub at the entrance. Good bus link into Keswick. Only problem for us was the slightly restricted opening season but this has a lot to do with the weather and seasonality of the Lakes tourism season.
This must be the best campsite in country faultless 100%
Amazing facilities and very friendly staff. This is a well respected camping site that we routinely visit.
One of the best campsites we ve visited. It is incredibly well organised with outstanding facilities.
Staff were extremely helpful and welcoming.
Pitches are large and well spaced, we had an electric hook up hard standing which was perfectly adequate for our 7m MH!
We would stay here again without hesitation. Perfectly located for visiting great places in the lakes.
In addition, measures for COVID have been diligently and they have a very thorough cleaning protocol for shared facilities.
Nice site..some lovely pitches with views.
If you want one you need to reserve ...many months ahead.
Good shop and facilities.
2nd Time to this location. Really clean tidy washrooms. Friendly staff and wardens. Great spot for walking
Great campsite , really nice Pod Glamping option, simple but well priced , the guidelines they put in place given the current situation were sensible , it's a shame not everyone staying followed these but I can't blame the site. Close to Keswick so no issue walking into town if needed. Great location for a stay in the Lakes
Went to castlerigg beginning not October, initially quite impressed with campsite.toilets, showers clean and lovely, we saw on one review it stated always watched by staff and lever left alone. We booked for 2 days camping in a tent, firstly the play area as you go in would be perfect for tents as a stunning view over lake but tent field was out the back no views as such and surrounded by trees , a real shame as if the owners switched positions sure would get more bookings. Second day we walked into Keswick and had a lovely day looking around shops few lovely meals and drinks ,we made a day of it as was last night and met another couple off the site. After a lovely day we walked back and through the campsite having had a few drinks we were probably noisier than we knew but we said night to other couple and went to our tent. Once inside we were knocked up by owners saying keep noise down? We are in our late ,40s not 18 so was totally disgusted by itself apologised and went to bed. In the morning we talked to neighbours tents apologising if we had made any noise, everyone said they heard nothing as not one person had heard anything and said omg after all we are all on holiday but nevertheless still said sorry. Shortly after the owners came to our tent again going over the same events we explained and felt it totally over the top to say it to us twice.we didn't feel comfortable on the site as staff was watching campers and tents and felt like we were at school not in holiday. We went to the restaurant and sat down with a menu first night we waited 15 mins before anybody actually asked us for a order,we just wanted something light but a young foreign waitress who talked broken English said only what is on menu is available, we asked for maybe just a jacket potato and drinks she replied no?
I will be honest would never go back and already told friends who were looking to go there don't bother, we stayed at another campsite we stayed at before for the rest of the week and was totally opposite later back yet clean and let people enjoy their holiday. If your under 65 and want a little fun and enjoy your holiday avoid at all cost......
Very nice place excellent location great views from site
Grounds were beautiful, facilities were excellent and the toilets/showers were spotless.
Excellent site with shower blocks to match.
Superb views of Derwentwater and the surrounding mountains.
Pleasant walk down into Keswick - bus or taxi back up if the climb is too challenging.
We ve visited many times & keep returning.
Nice location with quality caravans and a variety of local wildlife. I was impressed to see the caravan park staff re-stocked the bird and squirrel feeders during the week. Soon after we saw a number of wild birds and a rare red squirrel. The on-site shop has everything you might need and the food at the restaurant was smashing. You won't be disappointed.
Fantastic views, very clean, well maintained site and plenty of facilities. Really welcoming wardens, staff & a well stocked shop.
Wide berths ...landscaped and tidy....good facilities. ..fun birthday weekend.
Such a beautiful place with views to die for. Site itself is always immaculate and well maintained.
Genuinely fantastic campsite all so clean and organised... would give 10 stars if it were an option
Lovely sight with breath taking views and very friendly staff, half hour walk into Keswick
Great site. Good service. Lovely area. Fantastic reception staff.
Facilities are fantastic, very clean, and the staff are extremely friendly
Nice, clean site with fantastic views of Derwent water. Will definitely visit again.
Well kept & well run. Outbuildings are really good.
Lovely people great facilities and am zing pitch...views spectacular
Horrible experience and will not be returning, upon arrival we were treated like vermin, they obviously did not want us on the site, check in was a tedious ordeal, we we're then told our pitches were not next to one another even though we arrived together in two campervans, and there was a 10 o clock curfew, ended up getting a refund and finding another local site which was very welcoming, good facilities and cheaper, ended up having a great weekend.
We have just had 2 days here. Fabulous campsite. Would highly recommend. Very clean and well maintained. All staff very friendly and accommodating. Thank you.
Very clean , very tidy , well looked after , staff very friendly and happy to help , shop is well stocked .
Excellent views, friendly, helpful staff. Well run site
I've been coming for more than 15 years to the Campsite and we turned up yesterday to be met with the most awful attitude and customer unfriendliness ever.
2 ladies were on who aren't normally on reception and the older lady was very rude, condescending and blatantly aggressive in her manner.
We turned up as 3 adult males and a teenager. Because of this, we were told we were a risk by the older lady.(Despite the same party having been booked onto the site many, many ,many times in the past). She told us she wasn't prepared to take the gamble with us and when we explained that we are on the site's computer, have been so many times we have lost count, and that the adults were Search & Rescue personnel, and the teenager was one of the sons, and we were looking for a 1 night pass through as we were on a charity fundraiser. The lady's words were "I don't care and I want a security deposit off you if you intend staying"
WOW!!!! We are such a risk that its not even in their terms and conditions that a security deposit is now required for "At risk" people...
Needless to say, this has left a massive massive bad taste in our mouths and now we will always source alternative accommodation.
We have recommended people to go there so many times and had the other 2 ladies been on who are normally on, they would have seen us and realised we are regulars and there would never have been a problem...just like every other time we have been.
All it takes is one or 2 people to undo many many years of great positive things to have come from that site and this lady has single handedly alienated some of their most loyal customers within 3 minutes.. Well done you!
I'm rating this as 1 star for the sheer disgusting attitude and dis-courtesy shown to their guests... I don't care if she was having a bad day, people who are willing to give money to stay at the site and who can be looked up on the computer as existing customers (Which she didn't do even after letting her know), should not be treated this way.
As visitors, we have a choice on a lot of parks around Keswick, and it's out of sheer loyalty that we have been coming for in excess of 15 years, and not always as this group, sometimes with our partners as well, and this isn't once a year either...sometimes this is twice a month for most of the year.
Maybe the owners should consider that they aren't the only site in Keswick, and not the best site at that, and perhaps advise their staff to see their customers as customers / guests and not scum.
My girlfriend, and her family tried to stay here but were turned away as a group. Strange business plan given it was Bank Holiday and we weren't a group of teenagers.
It's a shame as we've been before and enjoyed it but the bureaucratic nature of the office has left a sour taste and won't see us returning again. If you're a grown up family (adults aged 25+) I'd steer clear.
Basically good campsite. Our place was advertised with a view (... and paid) although even 3 m high mobile here could hardly have looked over the scrub. That, however, is not the reason for devaluation for me. At check in the elderly lady unfortunately had little idea and was helpful. For the water supply, unfortunately, it necessarily needs its own hose, even at the main supply points, but you can buy one in the shop including connections. You can call this also enterprising, but OK, it was at least reasonably priced. The for the low-power stove (20 min.) & Microwave extra must be paid is however an absolute no go. The disposal has been set up by a rather inexperienced or unwilling contemporaries and makes so extremely little sense. At least for campers not.
Me and my fiance decided to book up here for two nights as it was close to Keswick town centre and seemed to have good reviews.
We turned up after a 3 hour journey too 21 questions about who was with us , are we meeting anyone and even tho we paid for our tent pitch they asked if we were sleeping in our transit (which is our car).
We were told curfew is half 10 and they expect us to be quiet after then. And we were to leave at 12:00.
After the grilling we were allocated our field and we went to set up camp.
Our field was quite full of tents and motohomes but was so quiet.
We had an awful feeling like we were constantly being watched from other campers and the staff .
The next day we noticed members of staff going around our area checking cars and tents with red labels shouting which ones were over stayers and getting rather excited about being able to charge them the extra day!! It was 12:02!!
We thought it was an absolute disgrace.
We started speaking to a few people we had met who were camped up near us and realised they were from the north east too.
They invited us to a bbq later that day and we decided it would be nice to go.
What a mistake that was. The staff were constantly driving around and watching us and the other campers there were clearly annoyed we were socialising.
The next day the staff were walking around again checking cars and tents this time 9:30!! These people do not want people there on their site . They want the money but not the actual people their. We packed up and went to Braithwaite for our walk.
We thankfully only booked two nights on this site.
We went for a 4 hour walk up the mountains and decided to pop in on the people we met at the site before we went home to say goodbye.
We sat talking to him for around 10mins and had an altercation with another car who was also sharing our field who was coming up the road we said good bye and started driving back up the road and sure enough a member of staff at the side of the road had his hand stuck out meaning he wanted a word.
A member of staff just noticed you coming back in and you were due to check out this morning. We explained that we did check out but we had come to say goodbye to a friend we had met here.
He was not impressed. We knew it was the other camper we had an altercation with that had complained as the man who was talking to us only had our last 3 numbers of our reg.
Overall toilets were nice. But definitely would not stay here again. It was horrendous from day one. The staff all have stinking attitudes and they just want you off the site asap.
We could not chill out here or relax. We were constantly being watched.
It's a shame because if they were a bit more relaxed then we would visit regularly.
Brilliant facilities and a beautifully kept campsite in a stunning location, and really reasonable rates.
Fantastic camp site great walks nice people great restaurant great to let's and shower blocks highly recommend
Beautiful site. First class facilities. Staff friendly and helpful.
Good site, great views, clean toilets. Site pretty sloping for camping though
Great facilities and fantastic views. Lots of walks and treks nearby.
Spectacular views from most of the caravan pitches. A nice, clean and tidy site, easy to get to and very close to Keswick town centre. Perfect site for visiting the Lake district. Love it. Does get very windy sometimes.
One of the best if not the best campsites that I have been to. Go every year and would highly recommend.
Great place with amazing views, clean amenities and very handy onsite shop for essentials. Will definitely be back
Better the higher up you are for a lake view, it's a tiered site and we were on a lower pitch so the view was limited
Overlooking derwent water. Scenery stunning. So clean. We hired a caravan which was lovely. Lovely walks nearby.
Lovely site with amazing views. The toilets and showers are really nice
I love staying at this site the staff are friendly and the site views are breath taking, it's a lovely walk into Keswick and there's loads if beautiful walks to suit all abilities. We will keep going back.
Fantastic site. Very clean and modern facilities. Staff very welcoming. Beautiful view across Derwent Water. Well stocked shop and restaurant on site.
Great site lovely views close but not too close to Keswick
Great views, great location to get away from it all.
A fantastic caravan and campsite in a fantastic location with with jaw dropping views, the site is in immaculate pristine condition from showers to toilets, there is even a fog wash, campers kitchen and bar, we camped for 2 nights in a tent More
This site never fails to deliver.
Peaceful, tranquil, stunning scenery
Just booked for an 8th visit next yearl
An excellent camp site, great views, clean and well kept facilities and a nice, reasonably priced restaurant. Definitely recommended!
We have been visiting Castlerigg for years, would highly recommend.
All what you can ask for nothing more or less. Although, I would have expected some all-night facility, a vending machine perhaps? Not thoroughly impressed but can't complain.
Great lounge and a nice view from the campsite. Facilities were in great condition.
Great facilities and views but hardstandi g pitches too close to each other not much privacy from your neighbour's.
Stayed 2 nights in motorhome with my wife and 2 children. Both nights the warden knocked on our door at 10.30pm and told us to turn our music off(which was not loud) and basically go to sleep.
Definitely heading back to this campsite. Great amenities and services, and even better views.
