After a visit to the hospital I received my bill, of course. I was charged for no less than three things on the bill (totaling $830+ in error) which I did not receive service for during my visit. It took me three requests for the billing department to even send me a bill. It has been 10 weeks and the three requests to get the bill with is grossly overcharged with services I did not receive.

In the 10 weeks I have been working with the billing department to try to get the bill reduced to a reasonable amount after not knowing and repeatedly being refused insight as to the actual charges. Now, 10 weeks later I am receiving threatening calls of collections for failure to pay. I JUST RECEIVED MY BILL TODAY! DOS: 06/06/2016

The incompetence of this hospital is unfathomable. I have left a message for someone to call be about being overcharged. I am not happy with the care I received, the post-care experience for financial consideration (I earn $6 more per month than my gross pay so I don't qualify for help and they are requiring ~$90 per month payments; $831 worth of services I never received).

I have asked for copies of medical records (lab results, specifically) while I was in the ER and three times since. I have still not received those either. I will not be back to this facility. Carondelet will make you sicker dealing with the aftermath of your stay and the incompetence and uncaring nature of the staff.

Has to be one of the worse ERs you can go too. I'm a caregiver, I took my resident here because of a health concern. Everything was good, the staff and the receptionist were friendly until we were put I to an ER room. Staff (all female) and 5 of them, were all bunched in a group, talking very loudly and laughing like they've never laughed before. Very inconsiderate of those around them who are in pain and in need of help. You're there to help people, not disturb them. They should all be fired. Put people who actually care about others in their position!!!

Went to the emergency Room at 5:00 p.m. for severe back pain. Sat in the 1st waiting Room for over an hour. Sat in the next waiting Room for 5 1/2 hours. They must have learned this game from Disneyland. When you go in it looks like your going to be seen until they stash you away in the second room that holds more than forty people. finally got to see a doctor 40 minutes after I got a Room and the doctor refused to treat me. Something about being handcuffed by this opiate epidemic or State law. My advice to every one If you are in a severe car wreck in the parking lot of St. Joseph's Hospital go to TMC or Banner. You could also drive to Phoenix and check into a hospital there and be seen by a physician hours before you would ever be seen by any one at St. Joseph's Hospital. Spending 5 1/2 hours in their room of hell I witnessed peoples names being called twice 4 time I had to tell the nurse they already took him or her back. This hospital is grossly understaffed underfunded and disorganized. It seemed relatively clean keep in mind they don't treat anyone for pain there any more the doctor I talk to told me they have not administered demerol to anyone in over ten years. That just can not be true maybe it was just he didn't administer demerol to anyone. Went back home had another agonizing night of pain and no sleep. The next morning went to see my real doctor he gave me all sorts of things some thing to help me sleep and some pain meds for you know the pain. I slept for the first time in over 3 days Oh I didn't even have to use the sleep meds the pain meds were enough I could finally sleep. This sleep deprivation from being in pain might have made me irritable. After spending 7 hours in a consintration camp style hospital only to find out that they stopped treating patients 10 years ago was a huge disappointment. I used to go there for really intense migraines that was twenty years ago back when they treated patients I guess. The wait time was an hour or so which is for ever when some one is stabbing the back of your eye with an ice pick you know migraines. One shot of demerol and 10 minute the pain was gone completely. That treatment went on for 3 years I would go 3 maybe 4 times a year. Then it just went away haven't had a migraine again. I have headaches but those are nothing that a dark quiet room couldn't cure. Another thing to keep in mind is there are people that go to emergency rooms and claim to be in pain who really aren't in order to get demerol morphine oxycodone or a host opioid drugs. After a pattern emerges they label these people drug seekers and the hospital will refuse treatment. Maybe I have been labeled a drug seeker I think my last visit to St. Joseph's hospital was 10 or 15 years ago not a very good seeker but who knows how long they keep records and what is on them. In closing if you are experiencing pain or discomfort go to a real hospital NOT St. Joseph's concentration camp. It is not all Corondelet hospitals St. Mary's is a well run Hospital I took my parents in there and my kids never had any problems with getting them to see a doctor and getting them treated by a doctor. I just can't get over why this doctor at St. Joseph's refused to treat me I find that just so odd. Well after reading several reviews I guess they will be soon closed or out of business.

Went there for depression and they didn't want to help they just look at you like what do you want us to do and they don't care and you tell me you deal with depression all your life and that's all they they don't care

My girlfriend came in with excruciating pain in her leg from what seems to be a superficial blood clot or cellulitis, we dont know, nobody will tell us what it is. When she asked for pain medicine because they were going to do an ultrasound and press on the inflamed area the nurse said no. And the doctor that came and saw her told her she must have hit her leg 3 months ago and forgot. The ultrasound tech made her cry because she was pressing on it and then proceeded to tell her that she wasn't pressing that hard. She has been in here for several hours now and all she has had is motrin. The nurse is sarcastic and rude. And I definitely do not recommend anyone getting treatment here. They are rude and insensitive towards patients needs.

I went there for a surgery about a month ago and I was very impressed. The staff was very professional and attentive. I was very nervous going in and the staff was very good at putting my mind at ease. I used to use TMC as my hospital of choice but I will be changing that to St. Joseph's.

The staff at this facility were wonderful when I had my surgery last August, however I am absolutely astounded at the unprofessional billing department for Carondelet!! It is now going on 7 months and I have yet to receive the $1,110 OVERPAYMENT I made the day of my surgery. The insurance paid the bill in full in September and I have been getting a TOTAL RUN-AROUND since then about the refund due me. My account was in review AFTER the insurance payment was already received; Oh, the billing system was changed (convenient); "billing statements" were mailed to me when I never received ANY TYPE of communication from St Joe's or Carondelet even after making 3 additional monthly payments; October- I'm told Carondelet has 30 days "internally" to resolve the account review; then I'm told (surprise!) I am due a refund which CAN be credited back to my credit card but it could take up to ANOTHER 30 days to process; November-no refund received but now I'm told the refund has to be a check BUT my account will be "escalated" as of 11-20-2018 to expedite the refund BEFORE Christmas but it could still take another 30 days; January WOW I'm told the refund was "approved as of Dec 28th" and given a check # that will come from "the facility" but no date to verify it has been issued; after calling "the facility" aka St. Joe's cashier and financial counselor I'm informed ALL checks are issued from TEXAS but no phone # to call for verification. Still waiting for a check, a phone call, a statement but that $1,000+ sure did get nailed to the credit card pretty darn quick! NEVER AGAIN, Carondelet!!

My experience with the ED wasn't really bad. It was a bit crowded and disorganized but the reason for my lower rating is due to a follow up issue. I have BCBS of Florida insurance and my wife is covered under my policy. St Josephs is listed as an "in network" facility. Two months after my wife was treated by a Dr. Bonnono in the ED we received a bill for over $3K from his practice. As it turns out he is not "in network" and the insurance company is telling me that I should have verified that he was an in network physician before he treated my wife. This is ludicrous, we saw 4 physicians in the ED that night before she was admitted and it's ridiculous to expect that the patient verify the credentials of every physician they see. What if you are incapacitated? This is a huge issue with healthcare and organizations that do not manage insurance billing properly are at fault.

I was very impressed with the care he had gotten at St Joes after breaking a hip in two places. I don't like the fact that there is no cafeteria to get dinner after 2:pm. Some families waiting for surgery patients can only go to the Lite Bite and there is no hot food.

I see a lot of bad reviews so I want to preface this that I was only at St. Joes for a delivery so this review stands for the L&D department and Recovery. We had an amazing experience - we were there long enough for 2 nurse shift changes and each team we had was top class. Very informative, listened and answered ALL of our questions. Made our whole process smooth and unforgettable.

St. Joe's is one of the cleaner hospitals I've been too. The physicians are excellent, but the nursing staff is terrible. The nursing staff in the ER and the ICU for neurosurgery are wonderful, but the nurses in the other units are awful. They are rude, not only to patients but to other staff. They also seem not that bright. They also rarely wash their hands or clean the iv before giving me meds. That being said, the doctors seem great and the people who handle insurance and appointments seem good.

This is by far the worst hospital I ve ever been to. They have you waiting for hours to be called. I can in around 10 and didn t get seen until midnight , because they wanted to take an hour lunch knowing they have people in here in a lot of pain. It seem like they don t care about their patients. For me to be someone who just moved out here a month ago from Cali this right here makes me want to go back. This hospital suck and the staff need to do better ASAP.

Brought my dad in for possible internal hemorrhage. Waited 4 hours with none but an angry triage nurse tell us we ll have to wait. Horrible experience. We have been waiting in the hallway exposed to people coughing and waiting as well

I have a family member that is there. They are taking such good care of her. I live in Tennessee and every time I call the nurses never make me feel like I am a burden. They have kept me informed of her health. Thank you so much

The communication from hospital staff is terrible! Calling in to find out what room my father is in, was such a chore. I had been told nurses would call me back for an update when they were not busy....and that did not happen. Truly frustrating knowing my Dad is there with a head injury and I have no information. I'm out of state and this is just poor service.

I am a caregiver for an 89 year old neighbor. He had outpatient surgery on Aug. 27 & we are in the ER due to torn stitches. He is in severe pain & we requested pain meds over an hour ago. The NP said she would put in an order. No pain meds yet. He is 89, afib & not on blood thinners due to surgery. We came here because his surgeon is with this group. We have talked to registration people twice, a triage nurse & now we continue to wait. If I weren t so concerned about him, I would take him someplace else. We were even told he couldn t have a wheelchair by a very rude nurse. He is in pain!! Thank God one of the registrars had some compassion. There needs to be a better system to see patients. No one seems to be in any kind of hurry. Sad way to treat patients.

I can't believe I have to write this. I live 2 min away from here and I would not use them no matter what was going on. I just found out that I have a 2 collection reports on my credit. I had a primary insurance but I also have AHCCCS and I just don't understand how someone could screw up insurance claims but only that, it wasn't just once but twice they screwed it up. So thanks carondelet for screwing up more than once.

If I could rate st josephs with no stars and wrote a review I would have but theu make you pick stars to write a review. They are horrible. We got here there was.nobody uere my boyfriend is violently ill throwing up and when we got to triage they blatantly said they have a bed bad that hasn't been cleaned and nobodys tending to it. They dont have a medic to do IV's and blood ect WHICH HE IS IN NEED OF ABOUT A HR AGO. About 7 people came in after us, 1 including whos syptoms were EXACTLY THE SAME AS MY boyfriends and he got a room 5 mins after arriving and all the others execpt 2 got rooms before us. The triage medic is scott is RUDE defensive and very unsympathetic. If this hosptial wasn't the closest abd felt he needed help asap I would have gone to TMC. horrible treatment here I will NEVER recommend st josephs abd definitely will now NOT be delivering my child here. Also to add the emt student put his pressure cuff on BACKWARDS while in triage AND scott was.horrible at doing the IV. Im sure since were still here well have more to add to this.

This hospital is very professional and fast. My mom had an abscess in her teeth that had spread to her body that could've been life threatening. Her sinuses were shutting down thank you for helping her. You were so nice.

However, the ambulance was rude to her saying they couldn't help her but the infection spread to her body could be killed her the ambulance driver was a bald man.

The nurses all ignored me. The doctors ignored me until surgery. I waited for hours in pain before surgery. Then none of them knew anything about if or when I need to contact my specialized doctors office. No communication and no respect or care for any of their patients.

I made the mistake of writing a bad review during an emotional time. St. Joseph's is a first rate hospital with exceptional physician's, and staff that provide excellent health care. I stand corrected, and would like to apologize to the staff, and the owner. I was out of line to post such a disrespectful rant. Plaese forgive me.

my son has been hospitalized twice in the past month. today my son John was just transferred from Icu to the stepdown unit. We have had the most excellent experience from the minute I walked into the building until I would leave. I would encounter many employees as I entered the building. they were always pleasant and greeted me with good morning and a smile. As I walked into the 5 th floor unit , the first time my son was here, everyone was pleasant and spoke, from house keeping to transportation to the medical staff.we were constantly made to feel comfortable. the board on my sons wall was alway updated, The volunteers at the front desk in the lobby were so helpful with my general questions. I felt that my needs a Johns family were important and addressed. I felt as though my son's medical tem and support team were very involved and very patient oriented. THANK YOU TO ALL FROM EVERY PART OF THE HOSPITAL TEAM THAT MAKES THIS HOSPITAL A SUCCESS. I liked how the medical team explained to us what they were about to do and what the purpose of the procedure was for. THANK YOU TO ALL FROM THE FAMILY OF JOHN P. MANGAN. (John is my son, and you know how us moms can be!)

I had a high heart rate from chronic pain the doctor came in after an hour asked me if I did meth/heroine,... then asked me because of the scars on my arms from years ago if I felt homicidal... was told they could do nothing for me but felt embarassed, insulted and not even treated as a human.

I spent $90.00 to try to get a stat ultrasound of my hand because my doctor thought I might have a blood clot and he wanted an ultrasound stat (as soon as possible) and was told it was swollen tendons and given antibiotics and sent home my wife wanted me to get this ultra sound so I went back that night and was charged $90.00 and waited almost 3 hours to be told they didn't do ultra sounds in the middle of the night and I could've been told this when I first showed up and not be charged $90.00 for nothing watch out for this place

So I was told to give contact info and I will be contacted to fix this - nothing

Third time I have been in your hospital.

Third time I have been in your hospital.
I had ok medical care.
Problem is this time at discharge I was given the paperwork for a 85 year old Woman. I have all her personal information. I went back this morning to get the proper paperwork. Your office staff was horrible and then the security guard came after me. The guard was told to get the paperwork from me out side was going to get the paperwork from me , I asked what your going to use physical means to retrieve it from me. Yes he was .
I will be going to the city of Tucson, my attorney. I will do everything I can to close your hospital down. 2.6 rating now watch it go down. To the owner please don't bother me anymore, no text calls etc...
Who ever you are shame on you and the rat trap place in Tucson.
As I told you last time I shall be watching you.
Clean up the hospital or shut it down.

The wait time for this ER is extremely slow....be prepared to wait anywhere up to three hours or more. One poor guy was clearly in extreme pain in the waiting room, but was forced to wait even after countless attempts by his girlfriend to get a nurse to look at him. Plus, the waiting room is pretty dirty and the chairs are super uncomfortable! I ended up leaving because we were super hungry.

Once again the ER didn't fail to disappoint me! I was only there for 8 horrible hours on a gurney in a hall way for an "emergency" surgery.... Once actually admitted the next 5 days were not as bad as the ED. I'm swearing off that place for evermore!!!

Update #3: I wrote a previous review on a horrendous experience we had in the ER and then afterward with the billing experience. I worked with a patient advocate and I was asked to call in and let her know if the recurring payment that I had set up on the patient portal worked for May. IT DID NOT
Calling in to try to report it was impossible.

There are two issues (and maybe more). There is an IT issue and there is an operations problem. First, the payment portal does not work for recurring payment plans. It worked in April when it was set up and failed in May.

Second: Calling in to resolve a payment issue ends up at third parties ( Tenet Health has outsourced this function) with 1st level minimum wage collection agency people.. The collections agency answering the St. Joseph's business office number is slimy. It is not the business office, it is a collection agency called CMRE.

You need to get a real customer service phone number where people answer and can bridge the issues with your third-party outsourced staff. Making the patients and their families talk to various services and get nowhere. The payment portal also has their own help line with no connection back to the actual hospital. The services don't even have a St. Joseph's phone number to give you and they won't give you any information. They know nothing other than to take your payment.

If this is a profit making group, there needs to be some actual managers experiencing this. This will go nowhere other than to move people into collections for no apparent reason. The ill will is enough to make you want to never use this hospital if you have a choice.

Update #2: I sent the information to the email and will look forward to hearing back. I do not normally do business in this way if there are people that actually are trained to understand how the system really works and make changes if a mistake occurs.

Updated: So the reply said they will review this issue and since there is no information on who to contact it is a mystery as to how they will do that? Do they not need real information or is this just a weekend "auto post"?

The plot continues now nearly nine months later after a horrid ER visit in July 2017. It is now April 2018 and via St Joseph's payment portal we had set up a payment plan as it was offered. The payments have been made and the checks cleared every month with four payments left and St Joseph's Hospital puts the account into collections.

That seemed odd, all the checks show as cleared, so I contact the St Joseph's Hospital Business Office and they are unable to see the records and we must deal with the Collections agency. The collections agency doesn't know why it was put into collections. So no one is able to do anything, they know nothing, see nothing, hear nothing, total vapid, brain dead worker bees. No judgment to offer a process for resolution. The incompetence of this hospital and /or Carondelet Network is overwhelming.

We love the care my husband received at St. Joe's once he was admitted. Their ER is neither better nor worse than other hospitals. The nurses are truly engaged and speak up as advocates on behalf of their patients. They are free to make recommendations to doctors and other staff members AND their input is taken into consideration. This adds to the excellence of care. As with nearly all hospitals, skilled nursing, and rehab centers, St. Joseph's is lacking when it comes to providing a true diabetic diet. TMC is the only facility that we have been to that does.

At first when my anxiety attacks would happen I would go to St. Joseph's ER and they would treat me accordingly by giving me a simple Ativan after checking to make sure it wasn't anything else to worry about. This last time I went in it was the WORSE anxiety attack I have ever had, I was throwing up, I couldn't stand up straight, I was hyperventilating, I was so close to passing out over and over again & I couldn't concentrate at all! Well, they put me in the waiting room starting at 11:00am, and people kept coming in after me, and gotten seen before me for hours till 5:00pm rolled around and my anxiety still was the exact same as when I came in. Finally the doctor took me to her exam room and started going through all my meds with me (When I couldn't concentrate) and I thought she told me she was going to send me home with a prescription for nausea meds and Vistiril (Which I already take for anxiety) and then I was brought to my room and the nurse came in and gave me a nausea med and started giving me a Vistiril!!!! I told him I already took 4 Vistiril at home and is there any way he could ask my doctor to give me something that works and he told me "She isn't going to give you any narcotics"... Well, part of my CPTSD is a really short fuse some times and I finally went off on him and then my doctor comes around the corner saying "I already told you I was going to give you a Vistiril and you never told me you took some already when we went through your meds" so I went off on her too saying "How the heell do you expect me to be able to concentrate during an anxiety attack like this one? So long story short she told me "Next time don't attack her nurse" and then authorised me HALF an Ativan... I will NEVER go to this hospital again and I warn anyone else, if you want good quality care you too should avoid this hospital. I do not recommend it to anyone!

My Obgyn was GREAT delivering my baby. I had 1 nurse that was nice and helped me get some sleep by staying with me and my baby in the room, but outside from that. I will not be going back EVER especially not to deliver a baby. One of the nurses I had was mean and grumpy and after a whole day of me asking for my baby to be bathed she came in and told me so are you gonna want your baby bathed or not? She wasn t handling my newborn like a newborn baby she was rough with her and threw all wet towels and blankets on my bed and never came back. She was such a B I don t know why she s a baby nurse. No new parenting classes nothing. Never again

Do not recommend. Presented with hives, lip swelling and chest pressure which are red flag symptoms and typically warrant a provider to at least lay eyes on the patient. I sat in the external waiting room for 15 minutes before being triaged. Was then escorted to their internal waiting room. Waited an hour and left. When I informed the charge nurse of leaving AMA (against medical advice) they just insensitively said ok without appropriate exiting instructions. Just unacceptable. Thank god I took a Benadryl on my way to the ER and had resolution of symptoms while waiting in the ER or who knows if I would ve went into anaphylaxis.

The reason why this rating is so low is because of...

The reason why this rating is so low is because of one person in particular (but also due in part to the ignorance of the doctor I was seen by). The rest of the staff was nice and competent, but the one person ruined my visit to the ER completely.

My husband and I have been trying to conceive our first child for almost a year. To our happy surprise, we found out we were expecting very early - literally only a little over two weeks after I ovulated, because I had weird spotting and suspected something. Therefore, I tested and found out. When I started heavily bleeding a few days later (but was still getting positive pregnancy tests), I called my Tricare nurse, and she told me to go to the ER immediately. I had a bad feeling I was losing the pregnancy already.

They took blood tests and told me I was going to have a sonogram. It was the young, blondish/light brownish haired Caucasian sonogram technician who gave me blood results: negative. I had spotting for a few days, so I suspect my hcg levels had already declined by the time the ER drew my blood. The news was devastating, but what was even worse is that she basically denied everything I told her. She told me it was impossible for me to be pregnant, that you ovulated after a certain time blah blah blah. Lady, I know how it works. I'm Harvard educated, and I know how to research. I've been TRYING TO CONCEIVE FOR ALMOST A YEAR. I had multiple positive pregnancy tests sitting on my counter at home, three different brands, and she tried to tell me they were ALL WRONG. She was talking to me as if I were stupid and didn't understand. I literally was just told I lost my pregnancy, but to make it much worse, she denied I was ever pregnant! I was DEVASTATED - to lose something you've worked so hard for... only for someone to be extremely snarky when filling out my sonogram info: "SO, that means your number of pregnancies is at ZERO." Probably just to prove her point.

Neither Doctor Pike or this insensitive sonogram technician seemed to believe me when I said I was pregnant. My blood test said I wasn't, but that doesn't mean I was lying or that I was crazy. A simple Google search when I got home explained it: I had a chemical pregnancy - essentially a very early miscarriage right around the time your period is due. It was THAT easy to find out what happened to me. I haven't gone to school for this crap - THEY HAVE. They get paid to know these things! And yet, due to their ignorance in knowledge about this, I was hurt even more during this traumatic event. I hope both of them read this so that next time a scared and devastated women comes in, they don't treat her as if she's stupid and making stuff up.

This is the reason why I guarantee, 100% that when I do finally conceive and have a viable pregnancy (God-willing), I will NOT be giving birth at this hospital. If they treated me like this, I can only imagine what would happen if something happened during childbirth.

Wow never have I experienced such vile behavior from hospital ER staff in my life. The rude service and lack of empathy really made me feel worse while awaiting treatment. Never again. Someone should retrain the staff in the AM shift at the ER in this establishment.

Bad business practices. This is a business, not a hospital. Beware of dirty facilities, unheard of additional charges, longer stay, no diagnosis, and no communication. This experience has been absolutely horrific. Lots of accidents happening that are requiring my 80 year old grandma to stay additional days. She wasn t supposed to have food for tests (that st. Joe s ordered) yet she was given food two separate times. When we asked why she had food our response was sorry, accidents happen and that she is going to have to wait again for the test? Another night in and more money for them. No one knows what is going on here. No healthcare facility should be operating like this. Get an itemized bill and triple check it!

My husband went in for severe nausea and vomiting....

My husband went in for severe nausea and vomiting. He is a chronic pain patient. He obviously couldn't hold his pain meds down so he asked for them IV so he would get at least a little relief. Dr Alan P Hassal got in my husbands face and told him he wouldn't be receiving any meds because he had a pain contract. There's no way you are getting IV opiates at this ER. They tried to give him an OxyContin pill which he refused because he was still vomiting. My husband finally fell asleep from exhaustion. They discharged him without even waking him up. Next thing he knows these bastards called security on him to escort him out! He was still hooked up to an IV. They finally unhooked him and sent him home in worse shape then he was in. He was finally up and about yesterday after having been down since Thursday. I am beyond disgusted with this hospital and St. Mary's is just as horrendous. Screw Carondolet and go to Banner. They treat everyone with respect and dignity.

The staff of nurses, doctors, technicians, and even the cleaning crew along with the food service were in my opinion top of the line.
As for my stay there, I am forever greatful for the care that I received.

Awful experience giving birth here in 2013. I am pregnant again with my second now and I find myself reflecting on how horrible my experience was here, I recommend against giving birth here. I was pressured into being induced, never given alternative choices nor was it fully explained. My entire labor was drawn out and painful. They used pitocin, never warned that it would make the contractions more painful. My water was broken by them, never were risks explained (such as the increased risk of infection, which I did end up with an infection). I tore during labor and afterwards as I'm watching myself be sewed up I ask what degree of tear I have and the person sewing me ignores me as if they can't hear me. They brought people into the room without warning. Horrible environment, they wake you up every few minutes. I left the hospital rundown, exhausted, with a tear I had no idea the severity of, and an impending infection. F**k this hospital.

I am sort a mixed on how to "Star" rate St. Joseph. I had to be admitted twice since January this year. One visit with life threatening issues, and once with very serious issues. Both visits, I was treated very well both in the ER and the recovering room. I would easily give the care, food, empathy and professionalism a 4-star except....
I am a Vietnam veteran, and entitled to 100% medical care at the VA hospital. If my illness requires me to go to a hospital, other than the VA, the hospital or I need to contact the VA right away, and the VA will determine if I should be transferred to the VA hospital.
In February this year, I was taken to the ER by ambulance, and was admitted. The treatment and care was what I expected from St. Joseph, and I was very happy, until....About 3 days before my discharge, I was 1/2 asleep with my back to the room door. A female came in and sad "Do you want to go to the VA or stay here?" I did not face her because I was almost asleep, but said "Why would I go to the VA when you guys know all about the situation?" She said "OK" and left. 2 days later, a woman came in and had a paper and said "The VA wants you to sign this, and they need it back within 24 hours," and handed me the paper. It had a box hand checked, and said I refused transfer to the VA and would be held responsible for all costs at St. Joseph." I gave it back to her and said "I'm not signing this because I did not 'refuse', nor was anything explained to me about it." She tossed the paper on the food table next to the bed and said "They need it in 24 hour." Very unprofessional.
Last week, I got a letter from the VA telling me they would not pay any of the bill, and that I must pay St Joseph. The bill is for a huge ammount, and I do not work.
Two things should have been done. (and I would expect the clerical staff learn to be nice to patients the same as the Doctors, nurses, and even the staff who comes in to clean the room daily) 1). The lady should have made eye contact with me and made sure I was coherent when she originally brought the letter in, and 2). She should have explained what the situation was when she asked me if I wanted to go to the VA or stay at St. Joseph. If she had told me what it was about I, and anyone else in their right mind would have said, yes, take me to the VA so I do not have to pay for the hospital instead of saying "No, I'll stay here and pay thousands and thousands of dollars.

RE: St Joe Hosp ER. without listing the details, while I was there, I was physically abused twice, verbally abuse 5 times, received inadequate and incompetent' care. The facilities and equipment are mostly antiquated, and the facility did not seem clean. I would not send my worst enemy's dead dog to this emergency room. STAY ALIVE, STAY AWAY.

I was there because my heart was in V-Fib cardiac arrest, St.Mary s SAVED MY LIFE, I was placed in an induced coma for 15days, I was operated on two days after coming out of coma . I received an ICD, this device will pace my heart as well as defibrillate my heart should I ever experience another life threatening arrhythmia. 95% of people whom experience V-Fib DIE.
I am alive , I lived , I am and will always be grateful to the staff of St.Marys Trauma Center and especially all of the dedicated nursing staff in the Cardiac ICU who protected and nurtured my recovery, Thank-you ,and God bless you all.

Worst experience of my life. I am honestly traumatized by the treatment of the nursing staff members in the Emergency Room, not to mention lost thousands of dollars due to the incompetence of the insurance department. Do yourself a favor and go to TMC or somewhere that knows what they're doing and treat their patients with respect. Awful.

To reply to one of the post. The still born baby was brought to her mother because the mother needed to say her goodbyes. My friend lost her baby and the nurses not only took care of her medically but also spiritually and asked my friend if she wld like to see her child. Its nice to see a hospital care so much about their ministry and service to the community and u can feel it the moment u walk into the hospital. I give 5 stars....

The preop procedure so far has taken 3 hours, not enough staff, just wait and wait more. 1 lab technician to draw all these patients preop labs. This process has been excruciating. Very dissatisfied.

All doctors, nurses, custodial staff and techs were informative, friendly, smiling and made me feel better. The hospital was clean. My husband and I have been thinking about moving from another hospital to St. Joseph's, this stay convinced me it was the best move! Good job St. Joe's!! I am impressed!!

Not impressed son had surgery today and I was promised I would see him before they took him back. Not the case I didn t even know they took him back until I asked when I could see him. I have never been to a hospital where the family couldn t see patient before surgery.

By far the WORST ER visit. They have everyone in a waiting room. They say they don't have any rooms, but on the way to radiology you can CLEARLY see there were empty beds. People are in the waiting room with IVs, etc. It's uncomfortable and when you're such and not feeling well who wants to be in the public where everyone is in your business. I will not come back here again. I will go to TMC next time.

My refills were expired and I needed a new prescription for Metformin asap...
I went in to the Emergency Room & there was only 4 people or couples waiting I guess for someone else..
I told them I wasn't feeling well...probably blood glucose high... I was sent to back were they tested my blood level .... and was sent to the waiting area to see doctor.. This all was only about 15 minutes or so ... and then with only another 5 minutes I was called to follow a doctor to a room where she confirmed my diabetes history & gave me the script I needed for Metformin and two others ...
Wow ... never in my life did I get in & out of any Doctors Office or Hospital nearly that fast... I was shocked to be on my way to CVS so fast to get my meds... I was in & out of St. Joe's with all I needed in about a half hour...
I was very impressed... very surprised ... awesome that was possible even... thanks.... Doug

The nurse are nice but not ever attentive. I went to the cafe they had and i understand working in a hospital late at night is not ideal. But at least pretend to be happy. The two cashiers didn't greet me or ask if i needed help. When i asked one of them for a sandwich he replied with"i guess i can make it." im so sorry that making a patient food is a huge burden for you. I have had some pretty horrible customer service experiences but this tops it off. The pizza i also order was so disgusting I didnt even finish it. The cheese was so cold and you tell the moment u took a bite it was sitting out for a long time. Like i said i get this may not be ure dream job but there is no need to be so damn rude. Hire people who can give better customer service.

Worst experience I have ever had at an ER. No compassion for anyone that was having to wait and in severe pain. Walked by like we were bothering them when we asked how much longer. I worked in healthcare and was so ashamed at the treatment, all of us lined up against the wall and no one spoke to any of us. Throwing up and told to find a bathroom..did not even point the way. Will go to TMC next time.

The staff was great. The care was good. The billing department billed me for the exact amount they owed me. They will not do surgery without pre-paying your entire deductible, but when your insurance deductible is actually less, they don't refund it! They just hope you're too busy recovering to notice! Watch your statements!

The care they gave my brother during his COVID experience was not acceptable. He passed away today 7/2. THe doctor did not give our family information and didn t call right before he passed. My brothers wife had to get it out of him a few minutes before he passed. His wife and son got there just.in time to see him pass. No information prior to let the family know. When they arrived everyone was just sitting around yet they said they didn t have time to call us. Don t take a family member there. They won t even test their staff for COVID. This was told to me by a nurse that works there. I ll

Have spent well over 7 hours waiting in the emergency room for and antibiotic. What the nurse says contradicts the doctor. Very poor communication. Clearly none of the staff is doings this for the right reasons.. Everybody on staff is just here for the paycheck. Extremely poor experience. Probably get better treatment in a third world country. And not to mention the facility itself is unsanitary... Didn't even get treated instead got sent to banner medical. Should have gone there from the start

A close family member was hospitalized at St. Jose...

A close family member was hospitalized at St. Joseph's Hospital 4 times in the timeframe spanning from November of 2015 to February of 2016 for a serious medical condition.. My issue is with the 'hospitalist' program. The hospitalists are not the patient's actual doctors and charge huge amounts of money to "pop-in" and ask how things are going. They know little about the actual situation at hand. I never complain publicly, but I have been re-hashing this situation for nearly 3 months and still can't let it go. Nearing the last release date of the patient a young hospitalist came in and was rude, inappropriate and misinformed. Pompous. To preface this, it was made clear at that point that no one at the hospital felt there was much more they could do for the patient. But there is terrible, disjointed communication between all the staff members and doctors and nurses. No one seems to have the same agenda and it is very confusing to the patients. My family member seemed to be in decline. A hospice nurse was sent in to chat. And while the medical condition was indeed serious, the patient was also being infused , for weeks, with copious amounts of antiobiotics. We could not help but wonder about the toxicity of the antibiotics contributing to the decline, but no one seemed to make a connection and clearly thought we were in some sort of denial about the situation. The hospitalist in question stood before us and in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS talked definitively of life expectancy(very short) and the consequences of any further attempts at treatment(dire at best).Even had his frightening statements been accurate, which I believe they were not, they were delivered in a rude and inappropriate fashion. Also, this doctor persisted in using a demeaning nickname when addressing the patient, who frankly at the time was not at his most lucid but in reality is intelligent and articulate and well respected in the community. The patient was released, endured a rough few weeks and finally stopped the antibiotics. Then he blossomed back to life. He is returning to work tomorrow in fact. And has resumed treatments, which continue to be beneficial. Let's not forget that patients are vital thinking people with fears, hopes and emotions. I cannot stress how crucial bedside manner is. St. Joseph's failed miserably in this regard.

On July 30th, my DD daughter was taken to St. Joseph's following her first seizure, at age 42. I do not know what ur protocol is for unknown seizures, but the only procedure done was a CAT SCAN, which can back normal.
My complaint is on discharge. I was given a referral to a neurologist and instructed to call for appointment, which I did. I received a return call stating the M.D. did not except her insurance. Why give me a referral to someone who didn't except her ins. I was told he was the Neurologist on call, I never saw him, and that it was procedure to give him as a referral. Not a smart idea to me, when describe yourself as a neurological institute.
It would be better, I think, if the discharge office had a list of physicians, who excepted whatever type of ins. the patient has. If there are no physicians in the particular discipline needed by the patient, who excepts their ins., then could not your discharge staff give the patient the information needed to get follow-up care, even if it is not in your network?( eg. In my case The Center for Neurosciences)

I hope you understand what I m trying to get across. According to your Mission Statement one of your core values is to provide a Service that focuses on the needs of the your patients. I think tweaking the discharge procedure a little will help your patients even if just a little.

Thank You,
Ms. Marie Jahn

I woke up with an emergency at 5:30 AM on a Saturday morning in July, 2017. At 6:AM I made an appointment for 7:00 AM in St. Joseph's emergency room. I arrived at 6:55, was checked in at 7:OO, in an exam room by 7:05, and seen by an MD by 7:30. At 9:30 I left with a prescription and instructions to see a specialist as soon as possible. Long story short, I am now well again four weeks later.

I am more than pleased with the efficiency and expertise I experienced during my first experience with St Joe's, and I will not hesitate to go there in the future.

My mother was sent here for a routine biopsy and when I entered I knew this hospital was extremely outdated there is only one small elevator and a small room, nurses didn t seem to care about their patients and when she had a biopsy they punctured her kidney and left her in a lot of pain and had to dope her up there was trash left all over the counters. I would absolutely never recommend this hospital to anybody and hopefully my mother and other family members will never have to come here again.

I smashed my finger the day before, and it has not stopped bleeding. It looked like a blood blister when I went to the hospital but you can see where the skin peeled back. The Dr used cold spray and poked it with a needle to drain. It was blood and it was told no it's not blood it's just fluid... Um blood is a fluid.. a red one.. here I am at home with yet a 3rd bandage and it's still seeping blood...

I'll never go back to this hospital. The nurses are very unhelpful. Urgent care? Not even close. They will have you wait for hours before they check you in regardless with how urgent you feel you need to be seen (other than if you've been transported from an ambulance. ). My blood pressure was 166 over 110 and they were aware of my vitel status was. I was having bad head aches and I even confronted one of the nurses who took my vitels. All he did was feed me bs that he will inform someone of my situation. I waited two hours and ended up going home to laydown. The next day I urgently called my own doctor at Kino hospital. Kino got me in within the hour.

Compassionate care during our time of loss. At 17 weeks pregnant we found out our son had passed away. I had to have labor induced and deliver our precious sleeping son at St. Joseph's. My nurses were truly amazing and I consider them true angels on earth. They are truly among the most compassionate, caring, loving and empathetic people I have ever met. I was truly blessed to have the wonderful nurses and hospital staff take care of me and my husband during this difficult time. Our experience at St. Joseph's exceeded our expectations.

I RECCOMMEND THIS PLACE TO NOBODY!!!

I RECCOMMEND THIS PLACE TO NOBODY!!!

This hospital use to be the best hospital in Tucson, now the lobby is full of people who come in for their tweak fix because the dope man is broke. And to on top of that the hospitals staff is a joke and extremely rude. Some act as if they dont really care about your well being. I mean, you have a small amount of doctors and nurses who do care about the patient. But after tonight was theeee last time I come/recommend/will ever visit unless my family member is dying, to St Joes as a hospital. TMC is going to be the only place I will fund and go now due to a Insurance/Information lady named Edith who thinks she runs that hospital and can treat people as she pleases. So the main part of the visit was alright. Dr and the RN where good but, Ediths actions is what made me have to write a review because I know if she acted this rude to me for no reason at all, then it probably has happened to others. Edith came in to my room to get some paper work and to sign some paper work. Everything was fine till she proceeded to question me on my Co-Pay for $100.00. I then told her to bill me due to my company is going to be paying this bill. Due to the fact the nurse triage was closed and I couldn't get a workmens comp #. (Was in here last week and told the lady who takes the info the same thing and it was no issue. I tried to tell Edith but, no) So, I told Edith nicely I am going to not pay it because the job is going to pay it for me. So Edith, then coped this fit about how "I'm being rude.", then hands me my ID card and insurance like (hurry up and take your cards). I shrugged it off probably a long night for her but then she pulls this move... Hands me the paper work to sign, I grab it calmly, then gose to hands me a pen but drops it on the floor ON PURPOUS, my hand wasn't on the pen, the pen didn't hit my hand, no nothing, she just dropped it right on the ground and gives me this rude look like "I'm not picking it up." I couldn't believe my eyes because I have NEVER had someone do that to me after. I was calm until that moment. Edith was so rude and ignorant to my long night, I already don't feel good and then she adds on to it with her pettiness. I then got very rude with her and I told her "I need to talk to who ever is above you." there is no way that was sliding. So she storms off in a childish manner, grabbing the paper work and walks back to her little area and points at a fellow. His name is Mark. Mark, the manager/shift boss (Idk what they call it in a hospital) he defused the situation, gave me a phone number to file a report for Edith and to please call the phone number. You bet tomorrow bright and early when that phone line opens, Imma be calling and until I talk to someone. I really can't believe the level of unprofessionalism and rudeness she displayed. Edith acts as if she actually owns the place and can treat others rudely. Clearly forgot who funds her pay checks and acts as if she is the boss. Choose wisely what hospital you fund with your insurance/money. I don't wanna be this guy (because I hate these kinda people) but, I pay my taxes, just like all of the other actual working folks here in Tucson. We Tucsonians deserve better treatment from the hospitals we fund and we sure don't need people with bad attitudes making people who already dont feel good, feel worse with a bad experience...

Again, I RECCOMMEND THIS PLACE TO NOBODY!!!

THANK GOD HE IS ALIVE!

THANK GOD HE IS ALIVE!

My Dad had a major surgery yesterday that could have taken his life. From the moment we got there, everything was bad.
1. 2 hour wait
2. Needles inserted wrong/took over an hour to get someone who could not tear apart his veins
3. Forgot about us in the waiting room to come see him
4. Doctor didn't meet/talk to us
5. ICU WAS TERRIBLE, no service, help or even care.
6. He couldn't stand up for 30 hours and when he was released to go, they didn't help him walk, they simply said, BYE! Didn't help him stand up or even walk.
I truly feel like the people he dealt with yesterday and last night DID NOT care about his experience. I would NEVER EVER want him here again.

After being a patient of Dr. Mark Bessette at this...

After being a patient of Dr. Mark Bessette at this office for a number of years, I received a letter stating he was permanently leaving town with extremely short notice (less than a month), and the other doctors in this office would be taking his patients. I called the office, only to find out that last part was in error: the doctors in this office are flatly refusing to take on Dr. Bessette's patients. When I pointed out that the provider website shows their physicians as "accepting all patients", they responded that does not apply to Dr. Bessette's patients, even if I am willing to wait six months or longer to get an appointment. In other words, they are specifically ***blacklisting*** anyone from their departing partner's list of patients, and both they, and Carondelet Medical Group are refusing to assist those patients in finding another physician outside of this office.

I understand these were unforeseen circumstances all around, and I feel for this office's staff who have no doubt been taking very angry calls since this started. This does not excuse however the complete lack of assistance in making sure their patients are being taken care of. We have been cast out, left on our own, door slammed in our faces. This is completely unacceptable behavior. I'm not the kind to initiate a lawsuit over something like this, but if it goes class action you can definitely count me in.

Went here twice in the same month back in early 2016 because I was throwing up every time I ate. During one visit they told me i was having "anxiety". I've had anxiety for years and this that I was experiencing was NOT that. The other time I went they made me drink water and because I didn't throw it up i wad "fine" i asked if they could do a scan or something and they said no. Ended up going to a real doctor and found out I had cancer.

So screw this hospital. My cancer could have been found earlier if they would have done tests. But obviously they don't care about people and only work there for the money.

If you want to die, got here! Especially with that James caricature running the respiratory Department, he's very rude and talks inappropriate to people and talks down to women and it's a sexist pig!! I would give 0 stars but it does not have that option.

I'm disabled for a number of reasons. When I went to this hospital for a chronic pain flare-up, they refused to help in any way with getting me comfortable. I was told to "make yourself comfortable on the floor" because I was unable to sit in any of the chairs. Because of the industrial strength fan going in the waiting room, I asked if I could wait outside. I was told "someone might call you out there." After waiting for nearly three hours and receiving no care, I took a cab home. Go to this hospital if you want to get WORSE.
