Went to the ER for stomach problems and was taken care of right when I walked in. They took me back for vitals immediately and had me in a bed/room within 5 minutes of walking through the door. My assigned RN, Diane, was a very kind lady and made sure I was comfortable always. Dr. Kingston was very attentive, upbeat and knowledgeable and assigned treatment promptly. I can see this ER being a difficult place to be in if it's busy since I didn't see much of a waiting room and a limited amount of staff but aside from that they helped me and I appreciate them.

Nurses were fantastic and would get five stars, but records confirmed my child's name, but did not enter the information correctly and as result created issues with insurance, birth certificate. They have no problem creating more problems for new parents so that they don't have to admit a mistake.
Went to ER with no insurance .told them I applied for access on the 13 of February. Had shingles.told doctors I had a rough .the took x-ray gave me the paper an a CD . Told me I need a CT scan. Knowing that I didn't have insurance. Way couldn't the do the CT scan. Instead of referring me to a doctor that that don't take access . That is wrong.
The first time I went there the main entrance was closed and there were no signs on where to go. After looking around which admittedly I took too long to do I found that if you follow the building to the left of the entrance there is a little garden area. If you wonder back there, there is a sign that says women's center entrance, ring for service. They knew right away my sister was emotional support and asked her to wait outside. I get that this was done to help filter patients into the business due to covid and of corse for the protection of the women expecting but you think they would have a sign on the main entrance saying this way to entrance. If it weren't for a guy in his truck in the no parking area, I wouldn't have even thought to walk into the garden section of the building.
The doctors are nice and helpful. My first visit took way long (4 1/2 hours Friday at 12:00), but they were also super busy. My second visit was on a Sunday at 9am and I did all the same exact things as the first visit in a fraction of the time as I got out an hour later. I don't know why they held me the first time to tell me the results of my blood work since they have no trouble calling me for check in and other stuff since my Sunday appointment. I guess also dodging the calls because my post here the first time was unhelpful too which is why I'm changing it to be more so.
Basically they need to update the sign cause people need to know where to go. And for that I'm gonna keep the rating as is. Cause if I needed more help then what I was provided I would have went to the emergency room for an even worse experience and bill.
Another weird thing was when I first checked in they had my name and my mother's name correct but someone else's addresses and phone numbers which was weird. I updated it, but I'm concerned on stuff I might have missed out on bills or otherwise as a result of the last one being wrong. Still won't know until I get the bill though I guess. I'm just worried since it hasn't come in and all of this was at the start of the month, I'm sure the covid thing is what is slowing it, but it doesn't ease my fears. Please don't call me just because of this review. I work night shifts and I'm never awake in time to return the call before work. Plus I just hate talking on the phone.
I am out of state and was called by staff at this hospital to tell me my Dad was admitted with a heart attack. It s during the pandemic and while I want to be there with him I can t be. The ICU nursing staff has been very good with updates and his current condition whenever I call. They have reassured me by being available and answering any questions I have about my dad. I am so very grateful he s not at TMC like the last time. Thanks St.Joseph Team ICU! I know you are taking good care of him.
I went there this past weekend because I had swollen lymph nodes and I couldn t breathe and they basically told me that I was having an anxiety attack and they sent me home like I was some type of mental patient I mean I feel I m pretty logical to get the concept of hey there s something wrong with me but here I am going on a week without being able to taste anything Lmao I don t recommend going here at all cause the doctors only focus on what they don t have to do and I have had to I take off work because of it
Soo sad!!! Stuff patients in every corner. Horror shows playing in waiting room. Placing flu patient's next others so it can spread! Very unprofessional atmosphere and not in a good way! A person could drop dead before they could get help!
End of February 2021 I was flown to st Joseph s and with out going into detail they were top notch did every test possible to figure it out from the intake staff to the drs & nurses thank you
This was the worst experience ever!!! I ve been having issues with my jaw and I needed to go in because it swelled up. After hours of waiting someone comes in to announce that all the beds are full and they are going to try and ween out the people who are less sick to make room. I get taken back for a blood draw where no blood came out. They said I was dehydrated and shrugged it off. So I didn t even get lab work. I was going to get a CT scan and after the doctor seeing me when he didn t even touch my jaw just said it was my teeth causing it and cancelled all my labs. I left not knowing Anything and probably with a hefty bill. Aren t you supposed to at least get an IV If you re dehydrated. I feel like I was one of the people weened out when I needed answers. Now I m sitting here with my face looking like a balloon. Worst experience ever. And the doctor had terrible bed side manners.
BEWARE that the ER doctors do not always accept the insurance that the hospital does....and you won't know until you get the bill months later. I think this is absolutely unethical. I went to St Joes because I knew they were in my BCBS network... but I had to pay the ER doctor as if I had no insurance!
There s no doubt that being in the hospital is no fun. It s all hurry up and wait. Even though TMC is right by my house we decided to come here because it s smaller and we hoped less stressful. We thought we would take my mom for a quick whirl through the emergency room and be back home. Three days later we are still here. So, considering it not under the best circumstances, I really can t say enough nice things about the staff. EVERY single person I have encountered here has been lovely! The nursing staff has been very thoughtful of both my mom and myself. They have tried to keep me informed the entire time and treated me with as much courtesy and care as they have her. I m super glad she ended up here. I highly recommend this hospital (but not the experience-I m ready to go home and so is she!).
I was admitted to the emergency ward via Fire dept ambulance during a panic attack--stroke invocked, After all the the tests for vital stats an questions I was transferred to the 5th floorP, During a 2 day stay my treatment was standard for my ailment, I guess but the food was substandard even for hospital food. What was supposed to be hot wasn't. what was supposed to be cold usually wasn't, what was supposed to be on time, well, hah, hah! two meals were edible and 1 was excellent, Roast beef mashed potatoes and gravy. Nursing care was average and 1 nurse, Iris, was excellent, and a therapist who loaned me her cell phone charger over night so I could communicate with a concerned friend
I was in the emergency for stomach pain. Although the wait was long. I feel like the whole staff l was sincerely sorry for the long wait. After I was seen by the N.P everything went smooth my labs and untrasound were taken in a timely manny. Everyone from house keeping to transport all the way to the nurses and the Drs made me feel so comfortable and taken care of.
Do not use this hospital. This is what us considered a failing hospital.
There is a surgeon who has taken over the entire 4th floor and so the hospital is used for his patients. This us illegal but St Joseph's has been willing to do this to keep the doors open.
They do not have up to date equipment. You or your loved one will receive inadequate care and as was the case with my husband, eventually die.
Again: Go somewhere else. Anywhere else. But do not use a doctor who uses this hospital.
A misdiagnosed wound on my dad s leg almost cost him his life when it turned necrotic. He had to have part of his calf removed at TMC because of St Joseph s incompetence.
This is one of the most unpleasant hospitals I have ever been to. My brother recently had surgery there and was in severe pain. This is already a overwhelming situation and to top the cake the charge nurse Keisha was absolutely rude and unpleasant. She gave me an attitude about the questions I had and just did not seem to care about my concerns she is very unprofessional all the way around. In a time like this we need the nurses to have some sort of empathy for the things family are experiencing. On top of her not only being rude while I was waiting for my brother to be taken back I just overheard her talking about the staff using very demeaning words. This is one of the worst nurses I have ever had. They really should do something about this situation with her nobodies family deserves to have this kind of treatment in a hospital while already going through a rough time. If I could give this hospital and it s hospitality a rate it wouldn t even be one star. I definitely will not return or let anymore of my family members return
If you have a choice go to a different hospital. After over two months of trying to have anyone at the hospital simply resubmit a claim to the insurance they have stopped me at every turn with a "that's not my job". Still trying but so far it's a $1000 mistake.
Today while I was in for a severe anxiety attack The therapist told he couldn t help me and all I could do was go home and cry it out . Mental health isn t a joke and I was disappointed that the therapist provided to me by the hospital would be so cold and unhelpful. The therapist actually made me feel like I wouldn t be taken seriously unless I actually hurt myself. I left the hospital, in a FULL BLOWN panic attack
I wouldn't even give 1 star . But theres no other choice. This hospital needs to be shut down and re staffed.! Horrible!!!!! Letting People suffer with no IV liquids no nutrition! Disgrace!
Hospital is in network, but their ER DR.s are not in network and they will overcharge you for this. Better to go in there without insurance than with it. They contract with staff from sound physicians and they are a horrendous company to deal with. Go to any other hospital and hopefully ST. Joes will be out of business and a real hospital can take over.
Widely known has the worst hospital in Tucson, for the er at least. and yes it is,. the place seems to be understaffed and all the employees of the sense that they just really do not give a single fluck about the people coming in or the work they are doing, the wait time in the ER was a joke. The place is dirty, the halls are cluttered and over all a poorly run institution.
I had a great stay in January 2016 delivering my child, however the billing department is awful and they are wrongfully sending people to collections.
Do not go to this hospital unless you potentially want to be sent to collections, three years later for money you were unaware you owed. I had my daughter in January 2016 and in January 2019 I received a collections billing statement letting me know that I owed the hospital money for the birth of my daughter. I of course called to confirm with the hospital that this was a valid claim and that I truly did owe them money. They confirmed and then when I told them I NEVER received a statement, they confirmed they NEVER sent one. They also did not send a claim to my insurance company until August 2018! I called and talked to another outside company (one that came up when researching St. Joseph s Tucson billing) who is apparently helping with their billing and she said this happened to many many people in 2016 and 2017, so I know I can t be the only one!
They are trying to reverse the collections claim, however I am mortified that I now owe around $2,300 from 3 years ago. I am a single mother and would have budgeted this in my life if I would have known. This is wrong to do to patients. Hospitals should have a grace period, but medical bills you didn t know about should not be able to haunt you 3 years later when they can t properly bill you. They should be responsible and also send you your bill before they send you to collections! Make this right St. Joseph s, after reading through other reviews this seems like an ongoing issue!
Don't bother contacting the hospital relations department for concerns, they will not follow up. The quality of care and services at the ED is beyond poor.
My doctor friend recommended this ER for older people. I am a retired RN and this was the WORST ER EXPERIENCE ever!!!! My husband went in with shortness of breath and came out 6+ hours later in the same condition. The main waiting room was empty so thought that was a good sign, OH NO, they had smaller waiting areas by the rooms where they put everyone. NO monitoring of the girl with the IV that wasn't on a pump, no monitoring of my husband's oxygen tank or condition. There was a woman lying on the floor, crying and moaning (probably to get seen faster). No enough seats for everyone as they came back and forth. WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN The email you sent me doesn't work
If you can avoid this hospital, I urge you to do so. I cannot stress this enough. THIS PLACE IS DANGEROUS! They nearly killed me 5 years ago because they do not follow even the most basic sanitary procedures. I had to go to the ICU at UMC for over a month after the St Joe s ER totally messed me up. Then, against my better judgement, I went in for outpatient surgery years later. I was hoping the outpatient surgery center would be staffed by at least somewhat competent, able human beings.... Boy, was I wrong. They managed to perform a unconsented surgical procedure, and didn t tell me. So, I repeat: DO NOT TRUST THIS HOSPITAL WITH YOUR LIFE!!!!!
Very concerned about the cleanliness of this place ESPECIALLY for a medical center. I went to the ER and had to get my blood drawn and once I walked into the room in the back there was someone else s blood on the seat and on the floor that the guy forgot to clean up and if I hadn t said something I would ve gotten the blood on me.
The guy who drew my blood also spilled blood on me and didn t clean it off my arm. I ended up passing out in the chair from draw , which had never happened to me before.
The rooms and bathroom had filth that had been there awhile. The hospital is in dire need of a deep cleaning as it s probably been years.
I was put in a room with a woman who was very sick, throwing up and it was making me feel sick. Not to mention as you re being transported around the hospital they leave you in random hallways with others who are ill and made me worried I would catch something.
On a positive note the intake nurse and the doctor were very nice.
Well we arrived at 12 a.m. and it was busy, they took my father in immediately into triage . They tried to take blood from him and ended up sticking him twice. The p.c.t. was a male his haircut was a Mohawk he was nice, but I felt like he was unsure of himself. After that my dad used his walker to get a x-ray. They got him a wheelchair and moved us to the waiting room we waited till 3:45 a.m to be called back. Our nurse was courteous a traveling nurse. She did the usual procedure. My father was cold so I asked for a couple of blankets, I worked in this E.R for a couple of years, and they seem to be under staff and and look unprofessional especially the men. Where are the Doctors? We had a P.A look at my dad and he seem to be unsure of himself but courteous , its now 6:10 . there a baby across the way that is scared to death and has been crying since we got back here, and the team of professionals don't seem to know how to comfort him. The staff looks and act like they don't want to be here. What has the administration done here? It used to be fun to work here, staff says it's not like the old days. Sorry folks but we will go to T.M.C next time, maybe even today.
Worst experience of my life. I've by far had better service at McDonald's then here! After hours of waiting, no one knew why I was even at the ER. Definitely wasn't because I just thought it'd be a good idea. Triage staff was loudly talking about previous patients they had and betting what was wrong with them and laughing about their symptoms. My nurse was very rude! And I lost count of how many times I was told "waiting is expected when you come to the emergency room." Which is obvious and we'll know, I am not impatient, I just refuse to be left in a room for hours without anyone coming in to figure out the reason for my visit because triage definitely didn't do that. Too busy being social with other coworkers
St Joseph's is a very unthrough hospital I've had to go to. They were too busy to take time to find what was going on with my husband and when test came back negative instead of looking into it further they discharged him. Absolutely shocked by his care there.
Quick. Caring. Professional. The place may be older, but the people there ROCK! St. Joe's is the ONLY Tucson Hospital I'll go to and I've been to 3 out of the 5 in Tucson Proper in the past 25 years.
I fell seriously ill on December 6, 2017. My son found me collapsed on the floor of my home. After a quick web search of the best hospitals in Tucson, he decided to take me to the emergency room at St. Josephs. After my blood pressure was stabilized, I was admitted to the intensive care unit. I had acute tubular necrosis, a medical condition involving the death of tubular epithelial cells that form the renal tubules of the kidneys, septic shock secondary to a urinary tract infection, subsequent pneumonia, atrial fibrillation, type 2 myocardial infarction, acute hypoxic respiratory failure, bacteremia, anemia, deconditioning, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hypomagnesemia, hyponatremia and rhabdomyolysis.
I almost died several times while in ICU. In short, my chances of survival were poor, but the team of doctors and nurses pulled me though. What's more, being associated with the Roman Catholic Church, compassion is a general characteristic of of the entire hospital staff.
Perhaps some other hospital could have also pulled me through, but that's a moot alternative. I just know that the physicians and nurses at St. Joseph's saved my life, for which I, my family, and friends will be forever grateful.
Do not have a relative, such as your brother, in this place and try to get his condition so you van find out if you have to plan a long trip to pick up his dog as agreed if he can longer care for her. I have heard not a damned good about this fricking place and this confirms either more. There would be no way in hell would I ever be a patient in this freaking dump. I'd go to Native American healer first. Screw this dump and every employee whonworks there.
The nurses in labor and delivery are so rude telling me I was to young to have a child mind you I'm 22 they acted like I was 15 and even then they should not voice their opinion. I was also feeding my child but she kept crying i had to burp her so i called in a nurse to help me cuz she wasnt burping for me. The nursse cam in tellin me i was starving my child and i have to give her formula we were going back and forth I was telling her she just needed to burp cause she had wet diapers and was feeding perfect, once I got my daughter to burp she stopped crying and ate the nurse didn't say anything to me and left very rude never coning back here!
was charged $3025 for a hospital ER room visit but never saw the room, layer me on a stretcher in the hallway , gave me a shot in the hallway and charged me full room , what a scam !! go somewhere else , this is a for profit hospital unlike TMC which would have been more reasonable .
The process of meeting with the hospital to discuss my grievances has not been easy. It has taken a few phone calls to realize I had to walk in to begin the process. When I tried to call to meet with the hospital I was told that I could only discuss the incident on the phone and that it was part of a process for a sit down meeting. I wasn't comfortable discussing the incident over the phone. When I walked in to meet with the patient advocate, I wasn't given any privacy to discuss my grievances and furthermore it was held in a public entryway in the main hospital's lobby. I was practically pushed up against a wall where the discussion took place regarding private medical matters and the discussion of how I was patient profiled only made me feel more defamed in the public entryway. The patient advocate said a private room wasn't available. This is the only time I met with someone to discuss the incident. In the discussion, I was told to write a short 3 sentence statement of my grievances to file. I did so and handed my statement to the hospital lobby staff who called the patient advocate to have them pick it up. I have yet to hear a response from the hospital. I am considering the lack of communication disrespectful and the meeting with the patient advocate as further demeaning my character publicly. I consider these tactics a form of evasion from a peaceful resolution and retaliation against me for writing my previous review.
This post is in regards to the grievance process to the review made by Marley Llama
Seriously flaws in th ER. Omg worse than a torture chamber. I thought I just might die before a doctor saw me. They triage you quick and the put you in the most uncomfortable disgusting waiting room ever. I was in that room for 5 hours. No one came to check on anyone unless it was to bring you back. I couldn't breathe had bronchitis and pneumonia. And congestive heart failure. Lungs were screwed up. Hello could be really bad......took the doctor 3 minutes to get me to xray. Took him 15 minutes to look and admit me. 5 more hours to get a room. 15 hours passed Rn's in the back of ER were GREAT. Rn's in front not so nice. Here just looking at my Christmas dinner. yuck but that's another story...
The staff is first rate. They know their jobs and go beyound them for the patient. Coffee in AM at 4 and it is fresh You can not go wrong selecting St. Jo
It's very difficult to rate this hospital. First off, the nursing staff was exceptional. Possibly one of the best experiences with the nursing staff that I've ever had.
The Doctor's, on the other hand, were absolutely deplorable.
First, Dr. Khoi Nguyen, the "Hospitalist," tried to cut off my wife's pain medications wholesale while she had a severely broken right leg, multiple kidney stones, and a stint in her urinary tract. This idiot walked in, said that my wife was about to be addicted to opioids, and told the nursing staff to discharge ALL of her pain medications. What kind of monstrous, moronic medical "professional" does that?!
Then, Dr. Alberto Corica, the urologist, performed surgery on my wife. He went into her urinary tract, removed a stone, and put in a stint. Of course, after that, we never saw or heard from him again. The nursing staff had to put out a call for him to find out what his orders were. All we heard back was that he wanted to leave this stint in my wife for a week. This, despite having told her that he would install the stint with a pull string so that she could remove it herself.
As it turns out, not only is Corica not attentive, he's also a liar. He did NOT put in the removable stint. He didn't show up to talk to us about his plans, and he ignorantly decided that he would have my wife get the stint removed in his office.
Of course, let's not forget that my wife was in the hospital for the kidney stones while also in medical rehab for her broken leg.
I don't understand how I can pay the immense amount of money I already do for medical insurance, just for my wife to be treated like trash by two different incompetent doctors. Nothing is more clear than the fact that the medical doctoral staff at St. Joseph's has little to no concern about their patients.
It's deplorable and unacceptable. As a professional engineer, had I performed my job the way these Dr's. did, I would lose my license and my job. I guess it doesn't matter in the medical field. The hippocratic oath obviously doesn't mean anything, these days.
This place was an absolute nightmare to deal with and the staff are inhumane and abhorrent. They have no regard for just basic decency and the icing on the cake was when I was supposed to fill out discharge information and the nurse came in to remove my catheter. With the door open and me completely spread eagle and a man who is not in charge of my care (not a nurse or a doctor) wanted us to fill out discharge paperwork. The fact that a nurse and someone that deals with patient privacy would deem this as acceptable behavior to have a patient so exposed mentally, emotionally and literally physically disgusts me even further. Also when I requested a patient advocate or anyone to help me make my complaint known I was given a number and they refused to give me the details of the man that was in the room and knew he completely crossed the line. I was met with extreme disdain and disrespect from the nurse from the moment I got there and it never improved. I am literally in tears recalling last night and the blatant disrespect and the fact that I am still feeling very ill. So here I am making my complaint completely open to the public to warn them. Maybe it was just the two morons I dealt with but I've heard a plethora of nightmare stories before about this hospital and have personally witnessed people released with IV's still stuck in their arms and completely out of it but this just confirmed that I wouldn't go to this hospital with a lethal gun shot wound. Literally leave me to die rather then send me back to this hospital.
I will be calling Monday for a patient advocate and hope to have this resolved or at least make sure there is at least a report and documentation. I also have my husband as a witness and he is absolutely appalled.
This is such a great hospital I was born her at saint Joseph's hospital and my mom said their are really good staff and I can't wait for my nephew to be born here at saint Joseph's hospital.
Since my experience. I've had one bad experience after another,in the ER, where the doctors are out of network working in network hospital. Then their medical billing company try to squeeze the full payment out of the patient, even though the patient has very good health insurance. In the ER when you ask if they're in network the answer is yes, which is deceiving, not giving the patient an option to denied treatment. I will never go to this hospital again, whether by ambulance or self driven. To all i say beware.!!! Addendum: doctor/ patient equity would keep this practice in place.
Do NOT use this hospital s emergency department. I spent $90 and endless hours there yesterday. I d had my gall bladder removed a few days before and was having some severe pain in the area of my appendix. There were no beds available so 8-12 of us were put in an overflow waiting area. After about 90 minutes a nurse (?) took five vials of blood. She sad I would be getting some morphine for pain and a CT scan to look at my appendix.
An hour passed, then two. Nothing. No morphine no CT scan. Finally, someone came to me. It sees the system that transmits my blood (and urine) had broken down, so they needed more blood and urine. I tried to put out of my mind how sanitary the system might be if blood and urine were leaking down onto other containers.
Another hour passed, maybe two. I was feeling hopeless. No one seemed to care. No morphine. No CT scan. I finally gave up and found a way to sneak out of the ER. No one ever called me or my wife about a missing patient. No one CARES!
Once upon a time St Joseph s Hospital was THE place to go. My son was born in the Wildcat room. My gall bladder was removed there, as was my wife s. I d sent 48 hours there in 1995 for high blood pressure. No more! I will NEVER go to this place again!
Before having my gall bladder removed I read the reviews of St Joseph s, which seemed very negative. Trust me. They are not negative! This place is a joke! You are putting your health, and maybe your life, in the hands of over-worked, clueless morons. Believe the bad reviews!
Just not a place to go there emergency department is not caring and the security kicked me out because my wife was considered a risk after they started telling and becoming combative asking to leave when they put a full catheter in the hall with men staff everywhere. I highly discourage anyone from coming here!!!!
Went to Tucson ENT (suite 515) today to accompany my boyfriend to his post operative check up appointment scheduled for 9:45AM. Upon arrival we were given no indication that we would be waiting for an hour and a half to be seen for a 2 minute appointment(no, that is not an exaggeration). We checked in with the receptionist, Kim and took a seat. After waiting for an hour my boyfriend approached Kim again inquiring about when he would be called back and she told him that he was the next to be called back. We waited another 30 minutes and watched 10 people (yes, we counted) get called back. At this point we were a little frustrated that we were not given correct information and that we had been waiting an hour and a half. My boyfriend went to ask Kim why we had not been called back yet, pointing out that people who came in much later than us were being called back, she raised her voice at my boyfriend saying that she didn t know what the doctors were doing or what was going on and that we had to wait for a special room(the doctor just had to look at his throat and didn t use any special equipment from our special room ). I ve never felt so disrespected and mistreated at a medical facility as I have been today.
I got here approx 1:30pm. It is now almost 9:30pm and still waiting to talk to Dr. About test results. Lower abdominal pain. I know others are coming in and out. I have seen 2 patients treated and released in one room across from me and 3 patients treated and released in the time I have been here. Never again will I choose st joseph.
My husband died at St. Joseph's Hospital on 2-11-2021. When I received the Death Certificate on 3-3-2021, I found they had used an incorrect cause of death. That makes the Death Certificate incorrect and unusable. Since then I have been trying to get the hospital to correct the cause of death so I can get a revised Death Certificate. I can not even access our bank account without a Death Certificate I have called multiple times and nothing has been done. Call after call goes without response. They do not even return my phone calls. This is an issue that has to be resolved and they do not appear to take responsibility for their error.
I just want you to know that I spent several days in your facility (and not the first time) and your staff was kind, compassionate and helped me in every way possible. The doctors- Dr. KC and Dr. Gerson (sp?) were thoughtful and interested in me in every step of the way. My nurses - Loretta, Melissa, Nicole and several others were wonderful. As an out-of-town patient who was having an issue while in Tucson, everyone from the EMT team to the hospital staff gave me the very best attention. I thank you all for the concern and care. By the way my mother, Betty Friedlander, passed away at 96 y.o. in your facility at the end of August and our entire family has nothing but wonderful feelings about how her death was handled. Please extend our gratitude to all - your staff is wonderful. And we appreciate their excellent care........Best regards, Richard Desberg, Cleveland, Ohio
Was referred to the ER by urgent care, needed to have testing done on heart and kidneys. I was first triaged by the RN and an hour later Triaged by the PA, which resulted in him saying he was going to do an ultra sound on my legs (due to swelling wanted to make sure it wasn t a blood clot) but there was no mention of getting blood work also, which is how they would check heart and kidney function.. which could have been done as I was sitting there waiting, nothing else other than ultra sound and was sent back to the waiting room that was FILTHY and packed. After two hours of waiting to get an ultrasound my husband and I decided to see if we could get any more information on what was going on. The charge nurse asked if the nurse assigned to us after shift change had seen us yet, which she hadn t, and told us that there was over a 9 hour wait. We then decided to leave due to the fact that we felt as if we were going to wait all that time and I would not get the proper care and the things done that I came there to get in the first place. I am in the medical field, I have worked in hospitals for several years so I completely understand that hospitals get very busy, especially during flu season, and that is out of the hospital staffs control. I know the process of how it all works... however the communication with this hospital and their patients and the process of how they operate needs to be fixed!!! Get more people working, keep patients informed and at least TRY to make them comfortable. CLEAN THE WAITING AREA!!!! I felt like I was in a free clinic!!! People shouldn t be treated like animals at a hospital. I have been to this hospital a few different times, giving them the Benefit of doubt because again, I understand how crazy it can get, but it s the same situation every time I ve gone so after this time I will never go back, have a better chance just waiting and going to a primary on Monday or to a different ER, I legitimately feel as though I wouldn t have gotten anything accomplished there! Here s to hoping it s not CHF, kidney failure or a blood clot which is what urgent care referred me for!
I would like to commend the ER staff for the treatment and care they gave my wife on 7/27/16. She was given prompt attention and exams for her problem. During our stay there, the staff was very attentive to her needs and comfort. I would like to recognize and give heartfelt thank you's to Admissions Rep (Kat Boo.), RN (Stacy Sco.), FPN (Becki Shu.) & Dr (Thomas Cur) who were on duty that evening and provided this care.
Was transported to hospital last Wednesday night / Thursday morning from Sierra Vista hospital. When I was being transported to my room from the ER parking area, there were medical staff to include the doctor that attended me. It seemed that they were waiting for me to arrive. I was here till Friday pm, I was hardly alone at any time. Thursday pm my spouse was able to stay overnight in room. I was treated with respect at all time, everyone were so helpful there. Great job St Jo.
Came in Fri at 6:30pm, thought femur was subluxated. Was in excruciating pain, couldn't walk. Passed out earlier from it. No wheelchairs available. During intake, harassed by the male nurse. He asked if I was pregnant or could be pregnant, More
This place is disgusting. Floors are filthy. Blankets left in waiting room. Im pregnant and told them and they would not let me eat anything. I went 10 hours with nothing to eat. Spent 5 hours there for them to give me zofran for nausea. Told them i havent had a bowl movement in 7 days they gave me nothing for it. I had an ultra sound done they gave me no results from it. I had to find out two days later what the results were. They said in the report i had vaginal bleeding which was untrue. Get ur stuff together before playing with peoples lives. This is the worst hospital i have ever been to. If you can avoid this hospital do so at any cost!
I was only seen in triage and all the lady asked me was how I was feeling. I don't have healthcare so I asked her how much she thought the visit would cost me. Her response made me nervous so I left. Mind you they did not treat me, did not do any tests on me. This was back in February. I never received a bill and now come June I have been sent to collections. Owing $1,140 in medical bills, for what? The nurse asking how my day was? Why wasn't I called, how can I pay a bill or question a bill if I never received it!?
My Father was admitted to St Joseph's after breaking his hip in a fall. His surgeon was remarkable, Dad had almost no pain after the surgery. Once we were transferred to the inpatient physical therapy unit, we were absolutely delighted by the quality of the care and especially the staff. The nice thing about inpatient PT is that he is under constant doctor care. The ONLY negative was that the physical therapy unit had semi-private rooms (2 per room). We heard that should change to private rooms 'soon'. Still giving the hospital 5 stars, since dad said this is the best hospital he's been to.
I went on 2/7 sat from 4 until 11 diagnosed me and on the 15th had to have surgery for the diagnosis. Instead of performing the surgery they cost me more money. They charged me $6782.40 for nothing. Dont go to this so called emergency room. They will waste your time and steal your money. Go to TMC way better hospital.
My grandmother had a stroke and was brought to St. Joe's. After being practically ignored for nearly 3 days a doctor said it was minor enough to discharged in a couple more days. Instead she was discharged in a day. And who ever did her discharge either didn't even see her or was just completely incompetent because they sent her home saying she was ambulatory and could get up on her own. My grandmother couldn't do this before being admitted let alone after 3 days in a hospital bed. Her assisted living facility sent her back to the hospital because she was too weak to get out of bed.
This hospital is a poor excuse for a health care facility. The nursing staff was rude and seemed inconvenienced by my family's questions. Doctors seem nonexistent, and no one seems to care whatsoever. Bottom line: Don't take a loved one anywhere in Tucson other than UMC.
The medical professionals are wonderful. The billing department was ridiculous. I owed $4,700 for my daughters emergency surgeries. I wanted to initially pay $100 a month, so I could pay off all the various doctors and labs first. They refused, but told my daughter that if I signed a paper stating that she pays me rent, they would cut the bill in half (she's an adult). She doesn't pay me rent - she's a full-time student! I wasn't asking for a discount, just a chance to pay off the half dozen other bills first. Very frustrating.
Went to the ER on 12/21/17. In excruciating pain. A lemon-size knot suddenly appeared in my bicep and the burning and sharp pains were unbearable. Never saw a doctor. Only nurse. She could not have cared less..sent me for xrays though lump was nowhere near my elbow. It was obviously a muscle or ligament. When the nurse returned to the room, she said, "There's nothing wrong with you." I asked about having an MRI or something that would show muscles. I was told those are only done in case of emergencies. I don't understand that. I didn't go to the Emergency Room for fun. I left very upset and went to TMC, where I received Excellent Care, and they confirmed I had torn my bicep muscle. My second issue is that a business associate went with me in case he needed to drive. He walked to the back as I was begging for help. The nurse began discussing the xrays, etc. with him without my permission. In fact, I said to him, "Let's go. I'm not getting help here." This nurse heard that and kept talking to him. I walked out. It was 11 minutes before he came out to the car, with my discharge papers. I asked, "Were you and that nurse discussing me this whole time?" He replied, "Yes". He took a bus home. I went back inside and asked for the Charge Nurse. I told her I didn't appreciate the fact that I was discussed without my permission, and asked about this being against the law. She agreed that it is. I asked for the nurse's last name-first was JoAnn. The charge nurse began yelling, "I'm not giving you her last name." She repeated that three times. I finally said, "That's fine. My Attorney will find out what it is." Covering up, much? More happened, but this is the basics. I'm not letting this go. Be very aware of that.
As a visitor to Tucson, I am appalled. I went to ER yesterday with Bronchitis at 2:39pm, triage was at 3:05pm where they took blood and prepared an IV. Then I sat in a chair in the hallway until 11:59pm, At which time they took me to a room, asked me to get in a gown then proceeded to hook me up to EKG and everything else like I had just arrived.at the hospital. At 1:00am the doctor came in and asked what I was there for. After telling him, he said well, the bronchitis you have takes about 3 months to get over and you won't need antibiotics. Just stay out of the wind and dust. That was a horrible experience. The nursing staff were actually running in the halls to keep up. St. Joseph leaders should walk through ER someday. Enough said!
May1, 2017. I called Patient Advocates like they asked in the response to this review. It was a very good conversation and I do feel like they are interested in making sure the process is reviewed so that others will not have the same expience as I had.
Decrepit, dilapidated facilities with a cramped room where a single nurse is juggling 10 patients crunched over in or complaining about pain. I don't plan to ever use this facility again, having only used it because my doctor called the hospital before I arrived. Which is only more confusing when admissions acted as if they never heard of the doctor (he's contracted with St. Joseph's), his orders or my scheduled arrival. Tucsonans: YOU can demand what hospital you're treated at. And please don't choose St. Joseph's.
Came here after leaving TMC, gallbladder removed a year ago but I had sudden painful symptoms similar to before gallbladder removal. The ER is severely outdated, being in so much pain I decided to just deal with it. In triage, the tray used to hold the syringes and vials was old with paint chipping off the tray. Random dirty backpack on the floor. The nurse was actually an emt. After a hour I got to see a nurse. 3 hours later I saw a doctor.
Discharged with possible gerd or an ulcer and a nasea prescription and a heartburn medicine. There are test to see if an ulcer is present but I guess they thought I'd be fine with morphine. I asked about the pain and was told tylenol and ibuprofen(I'm not a doctor) but I know from previous surgery that ibuprofen causes stomach irritation and constant use has led to ulcers. This place needs a compete overhaul. To make things worse, I got a call today asking if I was gonna follow up with the referral. No, I will not give any more money to this place or its associates unless I'm near and bleeding out my face. I gave it one star because at around 5 am I finally got some pain relief. To be honest, I'd rather they figure out what was wrong than give me drugs to cover the pain. I wish I could convey my feelings for this place in a better way but try and deal with the pain and drive a bit farther to a better hospital.
Good service from hospital staff, but the room and hall in the wing we were visiting reminded me of "one flew over the cookoo's nest". It was old and crowded, and definitely needs a remodel job.
The worst hospital I ve ever been to. I ve been treated better in third world countries. I waited 5 hours with severe pain in my stomach. Finally I was called back, I had vitals taken, was given a shot for pain and went into anaphylaxis. After a while I was thrown back out into the waiting room with my I.V. Tailing behind me where I Waited another 3 hours whist they took in mentally disturbed patients (I think because St.Joes thought they were to disruptive) I asked several times when I was to be seen again and was told I wasn t critical. Crying in pain, I pulled my own I.V. out and called Uber to TMC where I had emergency surgery. TMC took wonderful care of me for two weeks! So much for not being a critical patient St. Joseph s. Your nurses need training in empathy as well. Your whole hospital needs an evaluation or shut completely.
Just returned home after surgery at st Joe's. All I can say is, outstanding! Everyone was so kind and helpful. The nurses and staff at 4 P, ROCK!! Thanks! Julia Pollock.
I have chronic illness which unfortunately lands me in the hospital once a year or more. For the last 10+yrs I've been going to St Joe's. I have had 8 surgeries there, spent over a week in the hospital more than once, used the physical rehab facility 5 times and am ready to go again. St Joe's may not be the fanciest hospital in Tucson but was treated and cared for by the "Angels" of St Joe's, as was my Mother. They are the best. Thank you "Angels" of St Joe's.
One of the worst ER's in town. Incompetent is the word I use. I think their employees are not treated well because they are always grumpy and it shows. I have been there several times over the last few years and I will never go back. I tried to call their Advocate's office several times but they just supply lip service. Nothing will ever come of it. I have started to complain to my insurance company - see if that does anything.
The ER doctor (Kat) is a great doctor, I cannot deny that. But the majority of the other staff should try harder to care for the patients like offer the patient a blanket and pillow at least, and hand you the call button, also if a patient is in pain, offer them a wheelchair? Also building is very outdated and it could be more cleaner
When I brought my husband to the Emergency room today, we both were very impressed with the entire process. The staff were fast, thorough, and above all, very friendly and helpful. We couldn't ask for better care.
I was in the worst pain I have ever been in. I couldn t sit or lay down with out being in worse pain. They said I was refusing an X-ray because I wanted to walk. Finally they let me walk. It was about 90 feet. My entire lower lumbar is affected with degineritive disk disease.A pinched sciatic nerve. They could see why I was in pain. And still did nothing to help me. The people who work there are going to hell. They are evil should not work at a religious hospital. I have nothing but hatred for them.
After she was admitted for severe dehydration from violent vomiting and diarrhea, my girlfriend was discharged after being there 3 days with a guess on what was wrong with her rather than a true diagnosis and she still couldn't keep any food or water in her without vomiting violently. We got a call two days after she was discharged that she needed to return to the hospital because blood work came back showing she still wasn't absorbing any nutrients.
I took her back in where she waited five hours to be treated like she was a junkie for all the pokes she had received during her stay, and was kicked out at 3:00AM, having been told she wasted everybody's time. Finally got her to her PCP who thinks she has appendicitis and is testing her for it today.
Oh yeah. If Sean the tech in triage is reading this, you are dangerously obese and smell really bad. Loose some weight, don't kick trash cans at the cleaning lady, and find some other kinder way to refer to people other than "it."
I will NEVER take anyone I care for to that unbelievable abomination of a "medical facility." Yeah, I'm grumpy, don't know squat about medicine, and that the ER sees more BS that most places in the world. However, I do know that people should be treated with respect and compassion, and that anxiety is not the only diagnosis in the world.
What a train wreck of a facility. How they stay open and are allowed to treat people like this is beyond me.
Was able to skip the wait by using InQuicker on their website. Had a lot of bad experiences' at hospitals with indifferent/mean staff, but the staff on duty were very nice.
It's a hospital, staff is friendly. If your going complain about the long wait time. Perhaps you should have a medical team just for yourself but you can't afford that, so welcome to St. Josephs. Unless your starving stay away from the cafeteria it's more like a snack bar. My only gripe is I was sent to three different places as nobody new exactly where my father was, but it's a big place I'm not going to let it ruin my day.
I have a negative covid test and they are still not letting me see my baby in the NICU. I repeat- I have provided a negative covid test and they are still telling me I can t meet or see her because of covid. Do not give birth here.
I was in the ER this last 5th day of March, got in AR 23:45 hours and didn t take care of me till 03:10 hours, they saw and eared how I was crying for the pain I had. They didn t do good work, I ended today March the 7 in another hospital for the same pain. They are reading the reports they gave me at St Joseph when they released me and it says that they could not do good scan on my bladder, doesn t specify why. Any way I hope I have better luck here. They did scan my bladder and did a cat scan on my stomach and could not find anything. I hope they find the problem here where I am. If you believe in God, please pray for me. Been dealing with an Urachal Cancer. Blessings.
Ps. I guess they didn t do more because I don t have an insurance and no way to make the payment. One of the young ladies there asked me two or three times the same question do you have insurance . The Oncologist is saying that they should have not let me go to drive back to El Paso since there is a good part of the intestine asleep. He says that driving that 18 wheeler would have caused a lot of pain and more obstruction in there, in the intestines. I called the St Joseph to have them send me a copy of the Cd of the cat scan so I could save some money and time on having another cat scan here where I live but they told me they don t do that. Will just wait for the bill from St Joseph and see how I can pay them, but I will pay it. For next time if there s another time, I won t stop at their ER. I probably could have died driving from Tucson to El Paso, God knows.
