Nice hotel. Stayed in a nicely decorated and furnished suite. Restaurants were good but not outstanding. The service was a little slow at times and some of the waiting staff ( students mainly) were quite forgetful.

I booked a 2 night stay (BB only) recently after seeing how highly the hotel rated and it having a superb location. The hotel certainly delivers in terms of decor, cleanliness and upkeep and, it really makes the most of the glorious river views with it's glass fronted design and orientation. The standard room was great, spacious, clean, well kept and very up-to-date, Nespresso machine, modern smart TV and the Bose bluetooth speaker being examples of this. Room service was prompt and the food was piping hot, so top marks there. There was nothing wrong with the breakfast, but I'd rate it a level below other hotels at the same price-point and there was an issue with a gluten-free option, that perhaps could have been rectified better in my opinion. Overall a great place to stay.

Four of us stayed here celebrating my brother's 65th birthday. It was superb. The apartment, the breakfast and all the staff were very attentive. I have no hesitation with recommending this for a special break.

Lovely setting and been many times. Once we got over the shock of the A la carte menu option for lunch time, we had a wonderful Bar menu option. The food was excellent . . Burgers, Salads etc All very tasty. Then we moved on to the lounge area where the ambience was chilled and the staff all very helpful in getting us seats and coffees. Will be back.

Really lovely place. Food is great and afternoon tea is pretty good value for a venue of this standing.
Some drinks prices are a touch high, but I drink tea and coffee and they are brilliant quality at reasonable price.
You can also make a day of your visit by taking on a spa treatment or two. I've not done this myself but I know people that have and they love it.
Final note, they are very good at advising on dietary needs and alternatives where available.

My wife and I have used the spa at The Captain's Club on many occasions and every time the staff are polite, friendly and professional. The facilities are kept nice and clean. The spa pool is smaller than most, but is adequate, provided there are no large groups in attendance. There is also a sauna, though I have never used it. The treatment rooms are very comfortable and the treatments themselves have always been superb, whoever is administering them.

They have recently introduced a pay and display car park operated by an aggressive claims firm. Whilst hotel residents receive a refund , restaurant diners receive nothing even when they pay hundreds of pounds for their meals. I will not eat there again until they change this policy.

Decided to have afternoon tea for my birthday at t...

Decided to have afternoon tea for my birthday at the captains club after being recommended by so many of my friends. I wish I hadn't. After arriving and being seated, we ordered the afternoon tea menu and coffee. Food and drink arrived. The sandwiches were stale and dry, the had obviously been made well before being ordered. After finishing our stale sandwiches and very sweet cakes, my partner and I were gasping for a drink. we looked for a waitress to order another coffee and water, made eye contact with two of them but no one came over. After waiting 45 mins we had,had enough and decided to leave. We again looked for someone to give us the bill but still no one came, in the end I got up and went over to a lady and ask for the bill she was then quick enough to give us the bill. As she did I explained my compaints to her, she apologised and acknowledged that she had seen me look at her but wasn't sure if we need assistance. Let's just say the experience that I was hoping for didn't happened. Very disappointed
