Please get your fur babies here! west valley takes such good care of them! The facilities are ALWAYS clean.
$200 to pick up your dog after it had been brought in less than 24 hours ago how is that even legal!
Nice place overall with helpful people! The dogs looked clean and in good health.
The staff at west valley humane society is awesome! I m not sure if Hannah was a volunteer or shelter staff, but she was so pleasant and helped us with all our questions in the dog visitation area. We stayed in the shelter for about 3 hours visiting with animals talking with the staff and choosing our new companion. The facility is very clean, animals are very well cared for, and over all It was great experience! Our Mya (we kept her shelter name) is a perfect family addition, thank you to the entire West Valley staff!
I was ready to be disappointed about not finding a dog at the shelter. The person at the desk was busy and did not know about the dogs. I decided that what they do I couldn't do and I appreciate their efforts. I persevered and kept going back and asking questions and have found a wonderful dog. If you don't like the shelter step up and help. It's not Walmart or Home Depot. Their job is to care for animals not people.
The puppys and dogs are so cute and all the other animals too
Killing animals who had rescue offers? Disgusting!!
They had my forever pup. He did come home with kennel cough. They did help get that resolved. They give a 14 day window for these kinds of issues.
This place is horrible!! They gave our dog a horrible case of kennel cough because they are rude and don't care about the animals or the owners!! They picked up our dog on a Tuesday and forced us to neuter him but then they waited to do it till the following Monday. And no they didn't let us take him home for that entire week! Even though we had paid them and told them he didn't have the kennel cough vaccine. They also didn't take him out of the kennel for the entire week!!! Then when we went to pick him up at the time they told us we could, they changed their mind and made us wait an hour even though he was ready to go. Then when we noticed him coughing a ton we called them because they are the ones that gave it to him and they refused to see him. I have never been treated so badly! Please do not support them they don't do anything to help the animals they just lock them up and don't care for them.
They make u fill out papers like adopting a kid but then charge u like buying a phone
Great people. Thank you for helping us get our rescue dog.
The staff have always seemed terribly uncaring, and the place just has an air of depression. I cannot stand coming here.
The only issue i have is their adoption fees are ridiculously high. You could get a "brand new" dog for the same price. Should be a discount for people actually trying to help give a dog a second chance
Wish the animals were somewhat more affordable 2 g2
So please never take your dog or any dog here and I mean NEVER. My dog was recently been picked up by the pound because he had escaped from our back yard. They brought him here, it took us a week to get him handed back to us not only that it was mandatory for him to be neutered, we didn't even have a choice so we had to leave him there for another two days, when we went back for him (today) they had told us that while in surgery he had stopped breathing and his temperature dropped drastically, they couldn't even keep a straight face while telling us they made it seem like it wasn't even a big deal, I know it's not the staffs fault but their behavior was very unprofessional, thankfully they managed to bring him back. This place is very unprofessional, staff there are very disrespectful, we called 8 times today since 12 pm not a single person picked up, they are very uncaring for the animals. This place is not even kept sanitary for the animals in cages they are only allowed out that much, it is a living hell for animals in that place. Prayers go out to those poor dogs and cats kept there, as for my dog he will hopefully recover from that drastic experience and will never go near that place in his whole life again.
I like this animal shelter for the most part. The kennels are usually clean and the staff and volunteers are friendly. However, there are a couple of downsides.
First of all, it's almost always busy and there are long lines. It takes forever to get an animal out of its kennel. With the amount of people and noise, it can get really chaotic.
Plus, they can't hold an animal for you and this kept me from adopting one I wanted. I couldn't take it home right away and it was adopted before I could come back.
You get to spend time with an animal to really know an animal before adopting and you and just go in and play with the animals just for fun
Almost always overcrowded with animals, which is sad for the animals and people coming to see them, but pretty much unavoidable. Lots of animals to choose from and they'll work with you to make sure any pet you pick is a good fit.
Basically always a very large amount of kittens, especially tabbies and tuxedos, and always for very reasonable adoption fees.
They have a spay the momma program where they'll spay your cat/dog and get the kittens and puppies spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and into good homes.
They also have euthenasia services. I had a pet rat that I needed to have put to sleep a few years ago and everywhere I called wanted a minimum of $50 to do it. I was unemployed at the time, so I couldn't afford that much money in addition to whatever other fees the vets wanted. West Valley did it for $5 and gave me the body back to take home and bury. This was several years ago, so I don't know current prices, but I doubt it's anywhere near the amounts anywhere else charges. The only downside was that I couldn't be in the room, but if it's all you can afford, it's worth it to help get your animal out of pain.
The people there really care. It does get busy. You have to be patient.
The staff was awesome and were very helpful with are kitten situation. I could tell that the staff genuinely love animals. I loved the cute mascot dog that lives there; the dog is missing both front legs, but is treated with alot of love. Very compassionate is the word that comes to mind about this place...
Have gotten our cat here looked in to getting a dog but its so expensive...those poor pups are not getting adopted because the prices are so high
The people I worked with were so very caring! I wish I could take in all of the animals.
This evening I had made the awful decision to end my beloved cats life. I made the long drive to the animal shelter and when I got there I was greeted by a very nice woman at the desk. She was so nice, so considerate, and helpful. She was very attentive of my needs and I appreciate it. I was given updates on my cat's condition and I was very pleased about the treatment and the outcome. Thanks So much for all you do.
Thank you for the express Spade mom program it really helps people offer on disability income
They actually called to see how my adoption (Lil' Bit) was after adoption!
My original post was based on false information. I had a day of dyslexia when filling out the paperwork for the microchip and entered the wrong phone number. So the error was mine and not the West Valley Humane Society's.
terrible staff didn't seem to care much about us when we brought in our deceased dog (he died on the way there) just tried to upsell services.
tried to adopt there once - they had us go home to get our dog to make sure they would get along (understandable) but after getting him and bringing him back, they wouldn't allow us to adopt because they were closing in 5 minutes. they told us they would wait for us.
I hope all those dear animals find forever, loving homes.
Thank you for doing what you can to help these animals have a chance! So many people drop off cats at our senior park. I'd sure like to meet a few of these folks :( we need more'n more word out to have pets spade or neutered! Poor animals!!
Good staff. Don't be in a hurry, it can take awhile.
Very polite, had a private visiting room. Easy adoption process.
Giving a 3 star only due to the fact that the kennels are always filthy. I know it's hard to keep up on that many dogs, especially when there aren't a whole lot of handlers but a big part of running a shelter is making sure the animals are comfortable and you just don't see that in a lot of these dogs faces.. however the handlers are awesome with the dogs and care for them very well the bonds they create with the animals is pretty cool to watch.
Was clean staff were friendly. Lots of animals to adopt
Front desk staff were rude, nobody wanted any info of where I had picked up the 2 kittens I had picked up. I went home and cried for hours. I was not going to leave these babies to fend for themselves. I worked with the public in my career and I get it but its not that hard to be decent to somebody. Believe me, I didn't want to be there either.
Went in to drop off a couple of strays as I will be out of town for a bit. The strays had ring worm and when taken to a vet the vet said to take them to the shelter and have them put down. So I have spent the last two weeks taking care of them and treating them to make it easier for the shelter.
Now when I went in there they said that because of the effort I put forth that no longer makes them strays, meaning I have to pay a fee because they are not registered as strays to the shelter. To where because they are still not fully healed and fur regrown they might not even ever see people and instantly be put down. So ontop of the staff being lazy and not really working with the people in the room, it really made me see that this place doesn't care and I would never ever want to go to this location again.
Actually it makes me sad I ever even volunteered at this location.
Two stars because we ended up finding a puppy that worked for us. I understand that 90% of the time you dont know the history of most dogs here. But you put a lot of trust in the shelter when their information states, "good with kids" etc.
Our honest experience.
1st dog. Waited an hour to be helped. Went home with an awesome older dog- hes still awesome BUT has major resource agression. My husband almost got bit. How was that not noticed? My daughter could have handed him a bone and got bit.. We brushed it off the first time, the second time he got aggressive it got more serious. Again, my husband almost got bit. "He's good with other dogs." Our old lady dog wanted to play with tennis balls and this dog- it about turned into an altercation. Shes supposed to be a solid 60 lbs and is a measly 35-40 due to old age and a fast metabolism. Returned the dog. Got a credit. Poor dog has been returned 4 times now.. I really hope someone has the patience for his resource agression and takes him.
2nd dog.
He was awesome. Husband liked him. Wasnt resource aggressive, he took a nap with me on the couch, he seemed like the perfect fit! "He's good with kids." Our neighbor's kid came over so we could hang out with his parents.. the little boy is 3 years old and just stood there as his mom and I talked and the dog runs up and snarls at him. As soon as my friend asks "did you see that?! That dog just growled at my son!" He gets nipped on the foot. My friend is also a dog trainer so we wanted to correlate the little boy with good things so the dog wasn't aggressive towards him. We fed the dog cheese hoping that he'd warm up to him. Once the cheese was gone we had my friend's son pet him and he got bit again on the hand. Packed the dog up and took him back. That was the only time we were really treated with respect by this place. We got a full credit- again- and the dog was back on the website the next day. This time his description stated that he was good with kids 10 and up. Really?
3rd and last dog. Finally. We found a puppy. One that we can train and work with our family and grow up with our girls. They let us know that we had to wait a week before taking us home. When we went to visit her she was covered in her own feces. When we picked her up she had just been fixed and we arent allowed to give her a bath. Our poor girl smells like poop and super musty.
We will never, ever, recommend this place to anyone. The staff never helped us and did not take our frustrations seriously. We got attitudes from ladies at the front desk and the dog walkers. Terrible experience.
I love this place! We foster and volunteer here and all the staff are respectful and helpful. Plus! They are a No-Kill shelter. They often have specials on their already small adoption fees and several programs to help the community, like the pet food drive for those who need it and the spay the momma program!
It was awful!!!!! Never go here! Very unclean, unorganized and super rude. And for some reasom there was a cat back where the dogs should be. There is poop all in the cages. In fact, this place needs to be closed down! I have never had such a bad experience!
West Valley Humane Society has been instrumental in helping me alleviate the constant cat problem in my backyard. Their snip the mama program is awesome. We have some Stray Cats around our house and the females keep having babies. I was able to catch the moms and bring them in so we won't have litters of kittens running around. Great job guys!
I think that there is a huge problem when animals are unnecessarily killed. Isn't the job of a Humane Society to save the lives of these animals....pit bulls included? Shame on you!! I do understand that sometimes there isn't a choice, but there was certainly another option regarding the pit bulls that BBR said they were going to take.
Knowledgeable and friendly staff. A pleasure to do business with.
Thank you for our best dog friend Bruno we adopted from you Saturday! He is such a good boy and your staff was so sweet to him in saying goodbye. It is obvious that everyone there does care about the animals and wish them the best life.
Staff is dedicated and friendly. They are knowledgeable and I would recommend taking your cats to be fixed here.
Lots of kittens to choose from. Each kitten was only $25.00 which included neutering and vaccinations, which makes it a better deal than free kittens from Craigslist. Plus the kittens were friendly and already box trained! Simple paperwork and friendly but very busy staff.
Great price on micro chipping! Was offered the service after picking up my dog.
They chipped and gave a rabies shot only took about 35 minutes very friendly
My friend had her dog stollen here and instead of the place calling the owner they took the collar off and took a picture and put it up for adoption. The dogs are mistreated and not cared for properly and as a dog lover I am in shame. It s disgusting how poor animal life and loves are treated and taken from people. As a company you are to not put someone s dog up for adoption you are to call the owner. I advice people to not adopt dogs here because you may be adopting a stolen dog. I feel honestly sorry for the people that get there dogs stolen and the only way the owners can get there dogs back is having to pay 300 or more dollars which is messed up. Those dogs need to be taken care of and taken back to owners.
I just stopped by today, and all the animals were all very happy! As happy as can be, waiting for a "forever" home! The staff have always been helpful and knowledgeable, and if they don't have an answer, they will find someone to help you out!
Adopted a pup with "kennel cough" come to find out has pneumonia. Within a week we have a $500 vet bill. Which we would do for her regardless. BUT all the dang dogs are in this predicament. No where to go, yet have no choice but to get sick because the facility in not clean and ventilated. These dogs are dying in there!!!!!
I'm so disappointed in West Valley Humane Society! We adopted a chocolate lab 9 days ago and took him to the vet (Gage) today and he has a broken leg that will require a surgery that will cost $1,500. We were told he has a limp from a previous incident where his injury didn't heal properly. We were told he weighed 71lbs and today he weighs 56 (his weight could never have been 71lbs because he has been eating like crazy and gaining weight since we had him....and he was so malnutritioned when we got him, it was scary). Shame on the humane society that did nothing to screen their animals so that they could tell potential families what kind of care their pet would require.
This place Is a joke!!! My dog ran away and got picked up and taken here so I payed my fees and had to wait so he could get nutered which is fine except for the fact they told me they were gonna do the surgery in the morning and he would be ready by the time my husband got off work for us to pick him up. Well I got no call telling me he was ready so before we left I called them and they said they didn t see anything on his profile and that it must not have been updated. Then told me to come on down so we did then they said after we waited for an hour and a half that he was just now in surgery and I had to wait another day!!!! Again I was told he would have the surgery in the morning and at 5:30pm after I have been waiting for a long that he is just now in surgery. So I had to take my kids home with them crying about our dog not coming home!!! And NO one was even sorry no one even offered to make things right as we now have to waste even more gas that we don t have because we spent our money to get our dog back. This place has no schedule and are completely disorganized!!! I just want my dog back!!!! Absolute joke will never get any services done though them ever as now I can t trust them or their word!!!!
I adopted a great dog here a couple of weeks ago. Keirra was so great to work with! She spent over an hour with me and the dog and she explained diet, training, breed characteristics, and lifestyle changes. He's my first ever dog, so her help and patience with me and all my questions made the decision easier. This place is always very busy, and sometimes the line is out the front door. I know they're underfunded (especially compared to the Ada County shelter), so I sure appreciate the staff and volunteers help recently. The adoption price was very fair considering the vaccinations and that Kierra sent me home with a little food, some treat, a harness, and even a leash for my new buddy. Thanks so much WVHS and keep up the good work!
I donate twice a month. They need all the help that they can get.
Hated it. The dog area was cold and wet. We tried emailing and calling 3 times. Me we got an answer. The dog we wanted was ill and limping on 3 legs and coughing yet they said he was fine. How dumb can you be. The poor dog needs medical attention. I will be er be back to this shelter
Great people work here! My adoption process was streamlined and easy. I was actually impressed given the current COVID-19 restrictions. I was able to see the dogs I wanted to see without any problems. The private rooms they have to visit the animals is nice; it gives you one-on-one time. Kaitlyn at the front desk is awesome! She is really sweet and kind. She also has amazing knowledge of resources to use for, in my case, a dog. She really went above and beyond!
We love our new kitty Sailor he is amazing! But I had to buy a box to bring him home. A small gift would have been nice. However we wouldn't trade him for the world.
I love this Humane Soceity! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The shelter for the animals is clean. I will continue to support them! Thank you!
I visit here to help volunteer and the staff in charge of volunteering and adoption are kind people who are easy to work with. The animals are treated well and are taken out to play. The shelter also gives out a lot of information to find the right pet for you and your family.
I was searching for my dog and they made me pay the full adoption fee for her. It took 3 hours to get the dog back because they have to pick out any reason as to why you shouldn t adopt a dog. It was 20 degrees outside the day I went and probably 10 degrees lower inside the kennels. Poor dogs were sleeping on concrete floors in a freezing dome. The two times I ve ever visited I had an awful experience the first time they refused to take in a stray I found. My poor dog looks like she lost so much weight. Please find a way to improve this place for the sake of the animals. And please make adoption prices lower so you can actually get animals adopted out to homes.
Always been super helpful with anything I've needed for my pup! The prices for vet care are great!
Very clean and well kept. The staff was very friendly and helpful
They are always willing to help and fostering animals is easy thanks to their help
They were friendly and very helpful when we lost our dog.
I tried to call them a good amount of times and the only time i got a human they transferred me to someone else who didn't answer.
Unprofessional, unorganized, and VERY poor customer service.
We got hore dog in 2013 he had been in and out of the shelter he is a very good boy and he loves to run with his big brother they helped us when had questions and never rude to us.
I wish I could take one star away. My husband and I filled out an application on Sunday for a particular dog we were really wanting. West Valley called today on Monday around noon to make an appointment to come and meet the dog, at the last minute we got off work early an hour before we were to leave my husband received a call from West Valley to inform us that they adopted the dog out and was there another dog that we wanted to adopt. What is the purpose of filling out an application? That is poor customer service I want to warn others think twice before you fill out application and decide to adopt at West Valley Humane Society.
We had just had to say goodbye to a long time loved kitty named Coco. A week later,
since we were new to the area we stopped at the shelter just to "check it out". We found it full of friendly, helpful people; clean and over flowing with cats of all sizes, ages and breeds. We now are the proud parents of 2 six month old kitties.
The staff is awesome and very caring! We adopted our baby girl there a bit ago and she's the best Boxer we've owned. Because of our love for this facility, we decided to volunteer and help out as well!
Be cautious trusting this place.
I brought in a stray cat that hangs around my home to be fixed, I was told it was already and I asked the girl if she was positive. She assured me yes. The cat was not. when I called them the lady was absolutely rude. Needless to say I am very unsatisfied.
this place should be West Valley Inhumane Society, we had the worst experience here. Staff are VERY inconsiderate, rude and highly unprofessional. They try to act like they have the animals best interest at heart, they truly DO NOT. They tried to treat my wife with disrespect, so she rightfully stood her ground as a person coming into their facility. If your dog "god forbid" gets out of your fence and gets taken to this place, be prepared to be treated like you are not worthy of having said animal in your care. They definitely make you work for your rights as the owner of lost pet and PAY big time to get them out! They carry a very "high and mighty attitude" towards owners.. which is EXACTLY why my wife had to give your staff a piece of her mind. You are NOT aloud to treat someone coming into your facility with such disrespect and not expect it to be dished right back. Some people might allow you to treat them this way but not everyone who has a back bone. YOUR staff should be working to help the animals return home, not treat them like they are in prison and punish the owners.. especially on a first offense. ALSO, in regards to your very demeaning response to my wife's review, she did NOT steal or throw things at your staff. She collected the paperwork that was given to her to bring it out to me, so that I could deal with your staffs childish behavior. In with the paperwork was ONE document with the animals picture on it.. which NEVER left the property grounds..as far as "throwing" things.. again, way out of context.. you are sitting down and we are standing with a counter height distance in between us.. the dog collar was dropped in front of your staff to show the information they were insisting wasn't on the rabies tags.. it makes a noise on the counter with said tags attached.. Your staff was going the extra mile to make a scene and act as though they were being assaulted. When in reality, you were harassing us. My wife was done dealing with your manipulative ways and being treated with utmost disrespect, on top of that had to tend to our baby in the car that needed her. PEOPLE PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!! THEY WILL SCAM YOU, LIE and FULLY DISRESPECT YOU AND YOUR ANIMAL!
It's sad to see so many animals wothout homes, but the people there seem to take good care of the animals, and are friendly. I have only 2 complaints: the smell in the kennel area, but lets be realistic here, it would be impossible not to have it. And the poop on the cageswith the animals, again though, not much to be done unless someone is going to watch them 24/7, in a chair, right in front of each cage all the time.
We just got a dog from there that needs a spay or neuter, they would not give it to us until the job is done. In balance though we are allowed to go visit it anytime during business hours until we can take it home. We gave ours a bath on site Saturday, and ran it around outside a bit.
