Amazing service, nice atmosphere, the pastries are so good, they go quickly in the morning.

Best vegan food in NYC, hands down. You won't leave hungry!
Cauliflower Buffalo are a most try although maybe not a dish you have to get every time.
Surprisingly good 'steak' made by beyond meats in their quesadilla and this I would be with frequency.
Ravioli although pricey is quite good
Good vibe mix of health concious and non presumptuous upscale as Is the crowd had a fun 6 table top to my right and a couple to my right. To the right were 3 pairs of Jewish doctors and their wives and to the my left was a lawyer but I never would have guess it by looking at them and only found out by overheard parts of conversation
If you are curious as to their spice level. I determined that when my black waiter told me the food items I ordered were a little spicy he must have adjusted his spice level to the quite lacking pigment demographic in the room.
Unbelieveable food, all vegan. Nothing I ve had here that wasn t amazing and they have great wine and beer selection. There s an East and west location
After quite a few years this place is solidified itself as the vegetarian restaurant in New York as far as I'm concerned. Great food great desserts this place does not disappoint in any way
Terrible food and service. Worst restaurant I ever went. I will never go here.
Mediocre. Not bad, not good. Coffee is meh, service is meh, food is meh. Seitan wasn't very crispy. I'm more astounded that there are better vegan places in Texas than in Manhattan. I'm not surprised there was no one in here when I walked in during brunch time on Sunday.
If they want to survive, I suggest they go shadow the people at Spiral Diner in the Dallas Fort Worth area and really figure out how Spiral Diner can be so successful in a pretty much non-vegan environment and this Manhattan joint is just lacking.
Cool atmosphere, friendly staff & incredibly delicious food. They ve got some unique sauces.
Very good food excellent house made ginger beer. Staff is nice. Ambiance is steller and its vegan.
Even omnivores will find something to love on the menu.
The Indian plate is pretty good, though the cabbage is so-so. I also had the carrot ginger soup which I would recommend. The service was good but this place is definitely on the higher end and lunch was pretty expensive.
My favorite vegan restaurant hands down. Calm cozy atmosphere, it's almost impossible not to spark up a good convo with all the creative recipes and options on the menu.
As a beginner vegetarian, this place gives me hope that I can stick to it.
I have been eating at Candle Cafe since they opened and this quite a while ago. On a recent visit I had one of the best meals I've had there. It's great that a busy established restaurant cares as much as they do about the quality of the food and there loyal diners.
Fantastic food, very friendly and courteous service. Highly recommended, not only for vegetarians/vegans
Hands down, best vegan restaurant I've ever been to. At first, I thought the menu was slightly pricy; turns out it was worth it. We got the quesadilla to share to start with -- that's some of the best vegan cheese I've come across. My dairy-eating dining companion said he couldn't tell the difference from real cow's cheese. We inhaled it. He got the lasagna, which was amazing. I got the mac n cheese burger with fries, and I can say it's the best burger I've ever had, vegan or non-vegan. Cheese was spot on, burger even tasted like a burger. Finished it all off with a chocolate mousse cake, and again, you couldn't even tell it was vegan. If you hadn't told me it was vegan, I never would have known. Came back again the next day and got the brownie sundae, which was yum. I'm only here in NYC for a couple days, but if I lived here, I'd be a regular.
The BEST Vegan food on the UES. Excellent service, intimate casual atmosphere, well organized staff, and exceptional food. Everything I tried was delicious! I will be back and I hope they deliver:-).
Pros: awesome vegan food, juices, friendly staff, I've never waited for a table, quick service. Cons: cramped tables, uncomfortable chairs, inaccessible and tiny bathrooms
Actually 10 points, but it didn't work! World class!
Great vegan food. They even have the Beyond Burger now. Can get busy during dinner time, so make a reservation if you can.
I ordered the French toast. I received two slices of warm bread and a tiny cup of the nut cream for dipping. Nothing on bread. A touch of yellow on the center of each slice. Chef and waiter forgot maple syrup and so did I. Terrible. When I asked waiter why they did not make French toast with ehh replacement and he could not care less. He added oh yes we forgot the syrup. Coffee was good I am a frequent customer of Candle on 79 st
The food is still good but the quality of servers has gone downhill ..and the amount of fruit flies on the wall made me itch. I counted over 30 and told the server who did nothing about it..didn t even alert the manager..they obviously don t care
I ve been a customer for years but sadly won t be back any time soon unless they make drastic, necessary changes: clean up the joint and hire better staff...no shortage of good people who actually want these jobs.
Food was very good but we came Saturday noon and they were only serving brunch, when we called for reservation no one gave us a heads up.
Wishing it was more clear as we saw that other people leave for that reason
Amazing service. All menu items are vegan so you have lots of options as a vegan! The food is great and as a non-vegan I still enjoyed it very much
AMAZING food! Everything we had was incredible and I am not sure if I have ever had better sweet potato fires in my life.
Nice place, the food was good. Nothing amazing and a bit more expensive than I'm expected, but I'm from ct.
Super fresh! Delicious. My visit there was flawless. From the vitality shot to the veggie wrap.... & pumpkin cheesecake.
I have food restrictions and they were so careful. Tasted so good.
Candle cafe is, at the very least, a magical place. For vegans, or simply those who are seeking to follow a healthier lifestyle, this place is a must-visit. Many people think that vegan has to mean healthy and tasteless. While this cafe is healthy, their food is beyond delicious. One of my favorites is their take on lasagna. It was layered beautifully with vibrant colors and beautiful presentation. I did not feel even slightly deprived and my dinner date was also enamored with her dish, a fantastic barbecue sandwich. Their fresh drinks are also amazing and you can almost literally feel the goodness going into you. After a meal there you will feel energized and ready to go! Their ambiance is also fantastic, as there is an intimate, cozy vibe with spectacular lighting. A great place for a date, or to catch up with a good friend!
They put a lot of ice in their drinks, pastries were good
Always going to give above than usual ratings to veggie/vegan places - so theres my bias! This place has a nice organic-trendy farm - vibe going for it. Service is good for the most part and food is good to enough for "die-hard" meatheads to change things a bit ;)
Really tasty vegetarian food that seemed really fresh and flavordul
I had to double take on this place's grade, review and it's pictures. I ordered Mediterrian Salad with tofu topping. It was the one of worst customer service and qualify salad. The quality of salad was prepackaged take out, not a restaurant. I had to add some of toppings that was missing like feta cheese myself. I could go on the details but it could be short staff and quality due to July 4th week.
Great food and drinks. Get y a reservation just in case, and don't go here when you're in a rush
Extremely impressed with the service and quality of the food. Possibly the best service I've ever received. The atmosphere was also very pleasant and I would definitely come back.
Recently redone......and the food is great as always. Kudos to Bart and the staff.
I can't believe I haven't written a review for Kangho yet! This is legitamitely the best KBBQ that I've had in Flushing and usually always recommend this place to my friends for KBBQ. Granted, the prices are a little steeper than picnic
Seriously amazing vegan food and great service. JR was a fantastic server. So many options on the menu and everything looks delicious. Highly recommend the freshly made juices too. A must try for anyone in NY!
The Impossible burger with mushrooms was awesome. Friendly and efficient service too
Food was very good, service was very attentive. My favorite thing from the whole evening was their truffle fries. Drinks were strong, yet affordable. Surprising lack of candles.
This was extremely disappointing. From the reviews I was expecting actually good food. What I ate was crap. Store bought and heated is what it tasted like. And the $12 spring rolls was freaking pathetic. What a ripoff.
Amazing food (Mushroom Brushetta), Great Wine, we needed to be almost aggressively assertive to progress through the normal rounds of service however. Decor, loved the chunk of quartz in the window.
My favorite vegetarian place, disappointed they no longer have the sweet potato fries. my goto is the tofu wrap and soup. the chocolate date shake makes me want to weep.
Nice and relaxed place with great service. The flatbread pizza was incredible!
The service and food are otherworldly. My first vegan restaurant and it was amazing.
Delicious food - the Seitan and Mushroom burger was amazing.
An incredible and quality selection of Vegan and vegetarian dishes
There was really good food here, I highly recommend their cookies, and the customer service was good also. Really good. :)
Good vegetarian resto, not many on upper east side.
This is the first time I went to a vegan restaurant. The menu size was perfect, not too overwhelming and everyone on the staff was super attentive. It's a bit expensive, but such is life in NYC. I was a bit neutral on the food. It's the first time I ever had tempeh so I can't really compare it to anything else, but I'd certainly go back again.
Even though i am not vegan and i don't even like the idea so much, i loved the cauliflower buffalo wings. My wife got a lasagna and loved it.
Very nice veg place. Mainly soups, salads and sandwiches with a few other options. Varied range of fruit juices and smoothies :)
hit or miss service. uninspired decor. perfect if you have food sensitivies or allergies.
Really delicious vegan food, with fun rotating specials, and the staff are super friendly! Also the soy latte was great.
Amazing food and service! Satisfied the carnivores and vegans in our group.
Sensational food, great staff. Will be coming back. :-)
Amazing vegan restaurant with quick service and delicious food. The cajun seitan sandwich is the best. The potatoe wedges are top notch. Love this place. We need one in south Florida
The food was good, but not amazing enough for the price or the hype. I had some vegan friends in from out of town (I'm vegetarian, myself) and we decided to check it out. Like I said, it was good, but not incredible.
Uh-mazing vegan dishes. Try the cajun sedan burger and power shots!
If you're vegan or just like vegan food, Candle Cafe, the less formal adjunct to Candle 79 is excellent. Helpful servers who know the menu. AND...wine!
The food is always awesome here, staff is lovely....brunch was fabulous...And it is right by the new second avenue subway!
Phenomenal meal. The food and the service were fantastic. If you have food allergies you will be safe here. They actually looked up all the ingredients for us just to be sure and they made recommendations that were wonderful to. Many staff came by the table to say hello to us and we were made to feel very welcome. The place is small and not cheap but if you get there early it is totally worth every penny. I will definitely be coming back.
i planned th visit this place to have lunch, and I an totally satisfied. Burger is good, employs are nice, and juice is freshening! I am 100% willing to have another visit while i stay in Manhattan .
Great food & ambiance, warm service. Went at 11:30am on a Sunday and didn't have to wait.
Love this place !!! Great food and wine all vegan ... amazing!
Fantastic kale and tofu salad made for a crisp end to a hot day.
Delicious food, fresh ingredients, nice ambiance, and friendly waitstaff. A perfect lunch at an all-vegan oasis in the city.
Some of the best Vegetarian on the Upper East Side. Try the porcini crusted seitan with mashed potatoes, the portions are generous and you won t leave hungry. Try their sister restaurant up the street
Very tasty Vegan food, friendly staff, reasonable prices
They tweak their menu occasionally but everything remains terrific
Great place, the serve is good and de food es so delicious. 100% vegan
Some of the best vegan cuisine I have ever tasted! (RIP, Zen Palate...) There's not much on the menu you won't like.
Since the place is pretty small, it can feel a bit cramped, but it's worth it.
Eh, food was boring, even for a vegan place. Kinda pricey compared to similar spots.
friendly and helpful staff, large menu of super tasty vegan choices. everything was delicious and portioms were generous. just a tad on the pricey side.
This food was absolutely delicious. I got the dumplings to start and the Indian special that they had on that day. Both dishes were great. The atmosphere was very hip and lively, they also offered really great looking desserts but I was too full from dinner to get one. The only downside was it seemed just a bit on the more expensive side but overall worth it.
