Our daughter is currently attending Camp Olympia's Day School. I was nervous initially moving my daughter from another school but I can say I wholeheartedly am overjoyed and so happy to have her at Camp Olympia Day School. The kids learn their independence under a watch eye and grow as little kids. I love the family oriented environment and the "old school" ways of the teachers. I highly recommend the program if you can get in. There is a long standing wait list.

Absolutely amazing day camp. The staff, facilities and activities are incredible, my children couldn't be more excited to go again this summer. The animals they have are so well cared for and happy. Couldn't recommend this Camp highly enough. THANKS CAMP OLYMPIA.
Bullying was a real problem. Including from staff. Considering this was a pricey camp I m not surprised. I m pretty self conscious so changing in a public area wasn t the best for that issue. I m not using my real name cause I don t wanna get contacted. I really want nothing to do with this camp. I went to this camp for 5 years. Just cause I was in love with this one horse but now that she s passed away I m no longer going.
Camp Olympia is the best! My children came for several weeks this summer and they loved every day. They went hiking, played all kinds of sports and of course went horseback riding. My son liked Gracie and my daughter liked Jackpot! There are so many camps to choose from in the area but I think Camp Olympia has really got something special - friendly staff, a unique program and my kids come home happy! 10/10 had a great summer THANK YOU CAMP OLYMPIA!!!!!!!!
At Camp Olympia, there was lots of bullying, which was okayish, but the counselors didn't do much to stop it. In fact, the counselors did much of the bullying. Many counselors were mean. Some horses were mean. Two horses bit me. Two horses wouldn't stop galloping even after we told it to stop repeatedly. Most activities were mildly exciting and there wasn't really any shelter. It rained/thunderstormed and everyone hid out under a roof, with no walls. This camp isn't the worst, but is definitely not getting a five star review from me.
I can't believe this place still gets customers however, I am not shocked to read reviews or staff bullying and swearing and a lack of empathy towards others. I was here as a counsellor from the U.K for approximately 1 to 2 weeks way back in 2003. During my time there I had a bad ankle sprain while doing their so called "training" on the field and I was in severe pain and could not walk or put any weight on it. The camp owner (an old foreign guy) shouted at me because I cried out when it happened and he told me to "get up and don't act like that! You can't act like that in front of the kids when they arrive". At no point did anyone offer to take me to get my ankle looked at. I also got yelled at during for asking another lifeguard to help out cleaning the pool area at the end of the day. I was told "that is your job she is not here to clean, now get on with it". After a long day coaching swimming in the hot summer sun with hardly any lunch we were served watered down soup for our main evening meal. I got up and went for seconds and as I walked back to my seat my foot caught the camp owners chair leg and I apologised immediately. On returning to my seat one of my peers made a joke not relating to this and I laughed as did 4 other counsellors. It was at this point the camp owner yelled down the long table at me in front of all my peers and told me that I had kicked his chair on purpose and I had disrespected him. He also called me lazy for asking for help to clean the pool area and made fun of me for straining my ankle. I made several attempts to apologise and explain it had been an accident however, I was shut down and told to leave the table and return to my bunk house. I became upset and told them that I had done nothing wrong. 10 minutes later I was told that I was to pack my bags and leave the camp immediately as the owner refused to work with me. I made a phone call home to my parents back in the UK and tried to explain what had happened and that I was being taken to the train station in the city. When I got off the phone the owners wife said to me "why did you lie to your family about what had happened, your version of events was a lie. We are taking you to the train station and it is up to you to find your own accommodation and how to get there" and that is what happened, I was driven to DC's train station and just left there despite me asking the driver if he could take me to a hotel. He said "I can't I can only take you to the station" and did not speak to me for the rest of the journey. When I got to the station I managed to get into a taxi and I explain what had happened and he actually apologised to me for the way his fellow countrymen had treated me and ensured I got to a good and safe hotel and gave me his card so that I could contact him if I needed help. When I got my cheque through from Camp Olympia for the time I had spent there they actually wrote on the cheque "useless counsellor" I was a 21 year old thousands of miles away from home and this is how I was treated. A happy end to the story was I ended up in San Francisco working on a special needs camp and had an amazing time there. I recall all of these events as I made a statement to Camp America about this place but clearly nothing came of it after reading the recent reviews.
Camp Olympia is great! My daughter was really nervous about going to a new camp and meeting new people but the first day she was taken down by the staff and introduced to some kids in her group. From there she had a blast riding horses, swimming and even petting the goats!
There was one issue with some kids being mean to my daughter and her new friends but I was told about it immediately and after the one incident it dint happen again. I know kids can be rough and sometime rude but thats a part of growing up.
We cannot wait to come next year! Probably going to come for 5 weeks :D
My child attended this summer camp. Observations: the camp registered far more children than they had facilities to accommodate; the staff were rude to parents so when my child reported that the staff had yelled at her, it was easy to believe. In fact my child reported being yelled out many times during the camp (refer back to registering more children than they had ability to accommodate). Most disturbingly, the children are expected the change from clothes into swimsuits in one large room together with no accommodations for privacy should children want. This is *completely* unacceptable. For older children who may be more body conscious, being forced to undress in a room of other children is mortifying. Additionally, my child reported that on more than one occasion the door to the changing room was left open so they were exposed while naked to other campers, staff, and any other passers by. I notice that another reviewer complained about this same issue, so this is clearly an ongoing problem. READ: the camp has no concern for the welfare of campers. I would never....ever....recommend this camp. It is abusive and uncaring, when it should be a happy, joyful experience for children.
My children enjoyed this summer camp tremendously. Not only did they go swimming and horseback riding every day, but they met friends who they continue to see outside of camp.
We were so impressed with the camp that we elected to send our son their year round.
Their nursery school is equally impressive. It is a wonderful mix of socializing, exploring nature and education. Their approach to education is well planned and provides a wonderful balance between work and play. As a result, my four year old son has a better foundation of phonics than any of my other boys.
There are so many good things to say about this school.. I was looking for a school that would provide plenty of time to play outside. This seems to be a rare find. I m delighted to see that the kids go out year round. In winter they put on their snow gear, in spring their rain gear. The go for hikes nearly every day. The teachers, who accompany the children on their hikes, have compassion and experience which is challenging to find anywhere else.
This post is my way of saying thank you to Camp Olympia for taking such good care of my children.
Camp Olympia is a great year round riding center and camp. The horses are all great. The horses are well trained, and they are all safe to ride. The horses are healthy and happy too. They love to eat peppermints from the riding instructor. My children are learning how to walk, trot, canter, and jump on horses with Camp Olympia. The instructors are well trained, and are very knowledgeable. The lessons are well priced, and the riding rings are very nice. The barn is always clean, and the staff are very nice and helpful. The barn has a variety of horses, hard to easy, big and small. I wouldn't send my children anywhere else. If i could give this barn a 6/5 I would.
LOVE THIS CAMP! Summers are always fun and the kids have a blast! The horse program offers a unique experience while the sports and other activities help with the children's coordination, attention and social skills. Cant wait for next year!!!
KEEP KIDS AWAY! I brought my daughter to Camp Olympia for the summer camp and wanted a refund after the first day! Employee by the name of "Stevie" was cursing profusely with children around the corner! I couldn't believe it! I went to speak with the manager "Andrea" and she refused to believe my complaint or handle the situation! Utterly rude and unprofessional! I spoke to another one of the camp councelors and he told me that normally camp isnt so bad, but that management was slowly dragging it under. Turns out Stevie is Andreas son and was only hired a month ago as a manager as well. Obviously I will never be bringing my girl to camp olympia ever again after my experience.
