Was a really fun 1:30 hour. Has nothing to do with Edinburgh (bar having a camera obscura that overlooks the city) but is by itself still a fun experience!
If you're game, do a whiskey tasting first, then go here. Good luck!

Had a great time here with the kids, there's loads to see and do throughout the different floors. Go to the top for a birds eye view, binoculars are at the top to use at no extra cost, well worth a visit.

Easily one of the best attractions I've ever visited. Start at the top of the historic venue (5th floor) with great views of the city plus a very amusing talk on the camera obscura itself and a chance to squish tourists (that will make more sense when you go) then take your own sweet time visiting the other 4 floors on the way back down. Each floor is dedicated to different aspects of the visual and there is tons to see and do. Although it's clearly good for children we were a group of 4 sober grown-ups and we all loved it. Plenty of opportunities to take photos and experience the exhibits "hands-on". Seriously good fun, even the stairs down to the quirky shop are musical. Brilliant.

A really cool attraction. The Camera Obscura itself is a series of mirrors at the top of the tower that let you 'spy' on the city. It's really cool. It offers a nice experience for everyone, especially the kids as the tour guide entertains them by prividing them with materials to learn how the camera works and it's effects. Inside the rest of the building (many floors), you get many different optical illusions which are a lot of fun. Well worth the visit!

I had to come back here after my first visit years ago. I had vague memories of what this attraction close to the castle entailed, but knew my kids would love it. And so they did, who wouldn't. We arrived shortly before a show so we raced up to the 6th floor to catch the views of Edinburgh before we did so. The show is one of the knowledgeable showing the audience what the camera obscura actually is in an entertaining way that the children really warm to. It is basically an array of mirrors and lenses that show you the view from the top of the building on a white concave table in the dark room we all sit. The member of staff controls this from a handle that can be twisted. I haven't done it justice, but really interesting and enjoyable. The other floors contain a variety of old and new illusions, mirrors including a circular wall rotating around a static walkway giving you the feeling you are unable to stand up straight. After a couple of goes my wife and I felt slightly queasy, but the children persisted a few more times. They also enjoyed the projected football game on the floor and the walkway with lights extending into infinity. We were on our way to the airport and the staff locked away our suitcases while we perused - a nice touch. My children have already said they want to come back to Edinburgh, so we will also come back here.

Spent an awesome couple of hours here with the kids. Staff were awesome, Simon did the camera demo and was funny and engaging. Wouldn t have known to come but for a recommendation - am so glad we followed up on it

It was fun!! Because of the time that we went there we couldn't use the camera obscura as the sun is needed for this but they gave us 10% off. The staff are friendly. And the place itself is good. Make sure you like to use stairs as you will use them a lot!

I love love love this place. & cant wait to come back just to show my friends.

The entire place is beautiful and amazing but most importantly so are the staff.
They were complimentary, pointed out little bits i might have missed and were mindful of my disability, asking me to tell them anything i needed.

If your in Edinburgh. Go.
You won't regret it. Its not really possible to articulate the feeling you get from this place.

Lots of different optical illusions, reflection games, weird paintings.
They have a session on the top (no extra cost) Warrenton can see the city in a unique way where a guide "shows the city".
Totally worth it

One different thing to visit than the castles that fill the city. The items to interact with were interesting and mind boggling at one point. At the very top you get to see the city on the roof. There is a show at the roof with a guy and a mirror to show you around the city. Though a tall kid stood in front of me, that could have ruined it. It's worth a visit.

Absolutely fantastic experience especially for the kids. Pay once and go back any time again that day. Go early I the morning then again after 7pm when it's gone quiet. The vortex tunnel is amazing.

fantastic fun for everyone. an array of interesting optical illusions and interactive gadgets, situated handily at the top of the royal mile, make sure you go on a clear day to get the most out of camera on the top floor!

Thought it was not going to be the best value, and children usually fly through the exhibits at these kind of places, but they were fully engaged and spent well over 2 hours, probably closer to 3 hours. Absolutely brilliant.

Worth a visit, a little bit pricey for what it is but a good fun if you have never been. I have been twice now about 8 years apart and the installations haven't changed. So it's not a place for a regular visit but great if you are a tourist. Feels very retro as well, so might be interesting for a 60s themed photoshoot.

Great place to visit. You need to go during the day and with really good sunlight or you wont see the camera obscura work properly. We couldnt see it properly at the 3.45 show. The rest of the place was great.

Who doesn't love a place that has multiple opportunities for a selfie?!

My goddaughter may have been a little young when I took her there but can't wait to take her back when she's a little older so she can appreciate the wonder and amazement of illusions and how to take a proper good selfie.

Lovely, friendly staff to boot.

This place offers great fun for all the family, with an amusing camera obscura show everyone will enjoy. The range of illusions and quirky attractions make this a must visit for anyone new to Edinburgh. The only issue is that it tends to be crowded

Without a doubt, the best value for money tourist attraction on the Royal Mile and maybe on Edinburgh.
This place brings out the kid in everyone.
The actual Camera Obscura is a bit underwhelming but you'll not care.
Just don't do the tunnel after you've been to the Whisky Experience opposite!

This was fun, lots to see and do for kids and grown ups. This is a well done museum of optical illusions. The view from the rooftop is great while you are waiting for your time in the camera obscura.

This place is great! If you have children or are have youngens, I recommend this. There are many interesting attractions to see and many potential photo opportunities! The main camera obscura attraction is fairly uninteresting and doesn't seem relevant nowadays with the use of Google Street View and such, however the other attractions in the building are with seeing. One star off for over pricing, but who can blame for Edis standards?

Brilliant but why no Scottish or British staff ???? Although the young lady explaining all the goings on was very friendly pleasant and helpful sometimes it was hard to understand her English.

Had a great time with friends. The staff is really nice. The staircase to get to all the floors however is really narrow and the space is not that big all around and so getting about in a group of people is quite difficult but not unobtainable. Overall really great experience loads of illusions and the tunnel is really great.

The mirror maze and illusion tunnel were very fun. It also had lots of fun illusions and activities to take part in. There was also a show that is good to watch and an outdoor viewing area at the top floor with great views. Once you have a stamp on your hand you can also come and go as you please if you want to get something to eat or have booked something else at a certain time.

Enjoyable few hours. Good for kids and adults alike. Was a nice little bonus that you are able to come and go on the same day with a single ticket and also that they offer discounts if the weather is not good enough for the viewing. All-in-all had an awesome time and would stop by again.

Why have I never been here before...? Shame on me is all I can say!

Quirky, interactive and most of all, it's Fun! (note the capital F)

Based over several levels and jam packed with curios to amaze, challenge & delight, you just want to keep climbing that staircase to discover what else they've got. Once you reach the top you're also rewarded with Edinburgh's stunning cityscape.

Very much looking forward to returning for more 'play time' soon.
