I had to come back here after my first visit years ago. I had vague memories of what this attraction close to the castle entailed, but knew my kids would love it. And so they did, who wouldn't. We arrived shortly before a show so we raced up to the 6th floor to catch the views of Edinburgh before we did so. The show is one of the knowledgeable showing the audience what the camera obscura actually is in an entertaining way that the children really warm to. It is basically an array of mirrors and lenses that show you the view from the top of the building on a white concave table in the dark room we all sit. The member of staff controls this from a handle that can be twisted. I haven't done it justice, but really interesting and enjoyable. The other floors contain a variety of old and new illusions, mirrors including a circular wall rotating around a static walkway giving you the feeling you are unable to stand up straight. After a couple of goes my wife and I felt slightly queasy, but the children persisted a few more times. They also enjoyed the projected football game on the floor and the walkway with lights extending into infinity. We were on our way to the airport and the staff locked away our suitcases while we perused - a nice touch. My children have already said they want to come back to Edinburgh, so we will also come back here.
