Enjoy the trips to the zoo with my 3 year old who loves seeing the animals. Always a little sad to see the size of the enclosures - this is of course a zoo issue not specific to Calgary Zoo. Would like to see some healthy food options other than a veggie cup at the food stands.

The Calgary Zoo has done a great job with the current pandemic. All arrows are easy to follow and staff have been helpful. Praying for everyone to stay safe
It was an amazing experience with our kids. Especially the Pandas. A great additional learning experience for my kids on how they will appreciate, take care, the animals and preserve our nature
Was an overcast 15 degree day and it was great. Almost all the animals were out moving around. As well as the up close exhibits that got you with in feet of the animals.
The Calgary Zoo is a microcosm of the worlds most amazing animals, and they provide you with all the information you need to see it all with both a geographic and historical perspective. For young and old, again and again and again. It is never tiring...but be prepared to walk a lot.
I really enjoyed Zoolights this year, especially with our amazingly warm weather for December! And this year I arrived earlier to see some of the animals. I especially liked seeing the owls.
This review is of a private party/function at the zoo. We attended the Calgary Chamber of Commerce event and private viewing of the Pandas. When I first saw the event advertisement I wondered how it would work with a networking and the Panda showing. Well, what a brilliant idea. People had the chance to really relax and have some childlike fun. It really was something to experience. Then we went back to the event tent and were treated to gourmet food and drink. Well done! This venue us perfect for your next office party, family function or when you want to do something to make a memorable impact.
Zoo is well maintained but it has less real animals or birds than statues which kills the purpose of acutal zoo. When we visited more sections were closed with the excuse of animal not available.
Best zoo I've been too. The layout is easy to get around with indoor and outdoor exhibits. Huge variety of animals with lots of interesting blurbs and facts. We had a fantastic time as 3 adults and saw tons of families too.
This zoo is awesome lots to see here. The pandas are super cute. Would definitely go back in the future. It a good way to spend the day. You can take the Ctrain there.
This is my absolute favourite place in Calgary to spend an afternoon. There is always something new to see, and it is such an enjoyable experience every time. Having a membership is a no-brainer, and if I ever find myself with a free afternoon I know where I am going to get some fresh air and have a great walk. Lots of people around most of the time, but the flow of the zoo works well, and it never feels over-crowded.
As a city we are so lucky to have such an amazing zoo nearby. There are always improvements being done to the zoo and they do a great job with shows everyday allowing the guests to get a closer look and more information on the animals. I will continue coming back every few months as it's a great way to spend a day.
A good place to go for everyone. Not as big as San-Diego zoo, but something to do if in Calgary. Can be done in 2to 3 hrs if you move fast. Better to go early morning to see more activity from the animals. As the temp rises, most animals will be resting. Paid parking. Can rent carts to keep kids or belongings in if needed.
Everything was fantastic except for the confusing directions. The park has arrows and signs to force foot traffic certain directions because of social distancing and they are wildly confusing. The animals were great at least!
I absolutely love this zoo! I have a membership and go frequently with my daughter. I ve been twice since they reopened, and their COVID response has been excellent. I feel very safe and well distanced throughout each visit.
Great zoo with a great variety of animals. Each section has its own theme and is easily navigated. Lots of talks and animal traing. Hights are the penguins and pandas.
Leading-edge wildlife conservation organization that "happens" to run a fabulous zoo. Well deserving of all the support you can give them. The zoo advises governments worldwide on conservation, generates needed research, and runs highly effective programs to save animals, ecosystems, and even help villages shift from clashing with wildlife to thriving in harmony with them.
Always fun out here, it's a place me and my family always visit. During December the zoo light is another good place for the holidays out door experience
Putting the whole zoo controversy aside, I think Calgary Zoo does a great job maintaining the animals and just being a place where people can learn more about the other inhabitants of the planet earth.
Nice place to visit. The only problem that is worth mentioning is that the in the African section some animals have small living enviroment like giraffes and hippos. And some Canadian animals environments is too large that you cannot see them !!
I love animals and it s so awesome to have a place full of animal near me right here at home in Calgary. Me, my Mom, my dad, my brother, and my girlfriend all love it there. Our favourite or at least my favourite animal there is Sheldon the leopard tortoise.
Attended one of the zoo s locked door events and have to give them full marks for a really well organized and pandemically safe event. Hadn t visited for a while and a few of the improvements were interesting in themselves, which was a real bonus. But just being able to get out and do something different and imaginative during this mad time was great. Thanks to the organizers for a great evening!
Of course, any zoo is going to contain children, but the amount of screaming, wild children running all over the place and climbing any wall, bench, or decoration in sight was ridiculous. Even more appalling were their idiotic parents not doing anything about it. Strollers/wagons should NOT be allowed in the many indoor exhibits where there are already so many people and space is at a premium. We spent more time dodging getting hit by children running and shoving and having our toes ran over by some tuned out mom's giant stroller than we did focusing on the animals.
The layout made it so the most popular animals were grouped together, resulting in crowds and lines. The line to get into the penguin exhibit because of the huge, slow revolving door that kept stopping because people were touching the walls was ridiculous. We would have liked to have seen the lemurs, but there was another line just to get to the exhibit. Crowds and lines seem to make up this zoo. We've been to arguably the best zoo in North America, the San Diego Zoo, and it blew this zoo out of the water. Way more spacious, and more to see.
We're glad we got to see the adorable penguins and entertaining giraffes, but won't be back for a long time - it's just not worth the headache. It was hard to relax and really enjoy this zoo, and we thought it was safe to go as soon as the zoo opened on a weekday before school let out. I can't imagine how crazy this place gets on weekends or summer holidays.
The Calgary Zoo is such an incredible facility! Every time we go there is a new attraction to see and the pathways just flow through the park making sure you don t miss a thing! The food is a bit overpriced but that is to be expected. There are lots of options for food and drink though! The staff is friendly and so informative, our favourite parts of the park are the Penguin exhibit and the newest attraction, the Lemur Walk! You actually get to go inside and walk amongst the lemurs, there s also a rope bridge and a few other fun things for the kids in there! As always, well done Calgary Zoo!!
too much to see in one day. we got the annual passes they work well. great place to spend money on your kids better than toys. the new pandas are a big deal.
Lovely place to spend time with family. Animals from all over the world. We are not alone in this world. We need to be responsible with Earth and share it with these beautiful animals.
I took my daughter and a friend to the zoo and I haven't been for years. I highly recommend a visit no matter what your age is. My favourite animals to visit and watch were the pandas and the penguins! They also have special events to attend which are posted on the website which make a great experience-based gift.
I went to the zoo on one of the coldest days this winter. The upside was that it was nearly empty (saw maybe a dozen other guests the entire time), so there was no issue in getting around and seeing the animals. But with it being winter not all of the animals were out (understandably), but I was disappointed that there were not exhibits for the animals to be viewed during the winter months, so I missed out on seeing more than I anticipated had I gone in the summer time. Still, a beautiful zoo with lots to see and well cared for animals.
This is a great spot for so many reasons. I have gone on my own, with kids, with grandparents, with peers- everyone consistently has a good time. Even in winter it's fun to bundle up and take a stroll around and see some of the animals in a new light. The in park snacks are pretty costly but you can always bring your own food if you like. A yearly membership pays for itself by the 3rd visit which, to me, makes it a good value option. Definitely recommend.
The Calgary Zoo is a destination to see, regardless of whether you're a local or a tourist. Their penguin, lemur, and panda exhibits in particular are world class. In the warm seasons, you can go into the exhibit with the lemurs, and the penguins are so great you'll want to see them on the way in again on the way out!
Their staff and volunteers are well-trained, well-informed, and are happy to talk with guests about the animals.
Their seasonal evening programs are also fantastic. We never miss Zoo Lights, and Immuninasia was great, too!
Lived in Calgary all my life and have seen the change over time. Keeps getting better over time. Be prepared to pay for parking. Advise you get a zoo membership with the free parking if you love going to the zoo.
Pandas seem to be the big attraction this year as well as the Lemurs. Likely to spend close to 2 hours at most. Look forward to more animals in the future
We had a great time and easily saw the with onlya ten minute wait. Would have liked a bit more signage. Got a bit lost on the way out as we didn't take note of the name of our gate.
This is a big ol' zoo. Do you like animals? Do you like $7 ice creams? Do you like to tire your children out by making them walk farther than they are used to? If you answered yes to any of those, you should consider a trip to this location.
I would give it 10 stars if I could. The staff are patient, helpful and friendly and the exhibits are closely located to one another which makes access easy, particularly for people with limited mobility. My family spent 4.5 hours including lunch @ Kitamba cafe(cafeteria style dinning cost 77$ for 3 adults 2 teens and was under 10 min to service) and could have easily spent longer. We we're able to see all exhibits including the touring exhibit from Toronto. I recommend arriving early in the AM because the animals are more active and the lineups are shorter.
Nice place to spend the weekend when weather is nice, lots of plants and animals. And the Pandas are sooo cute. Good place to take the kids for short trip.
The calgary zoo is an absolutely awesome place to go either as an adult or with your kids. So why the 3 stars then? I can NOT believe the price of food there. The price of food or even coffee (which is less than mediocre) is not just high... It's a flat out rip off. A coffee after my membership discount was $3.15 (more than Starbucks!!) and tasted worse than nabob from a can. The chicken strips were almost $6 for only 3 and tasted bland but at least they were crispy. Other than that.... Go see the animals! Friendly staff make it a great experience too!!
We so enjoyed our visit to the zoo a few days ago. Its so clean and beautiful to walk the grounds. We went to Grazers resautant for lunch and had the best Mexican buffet in a long time. The pandas were active and we were really excited to see them.
The second best zoo in Canada! There is so much pride in this Zoo. They are constantly updating and maintaining this Zoo. You almost can't see it all in one day. I'm so proud to be a calgarian, with one of the best zoos in the world.
Very large zoo with a massive range of animals. The experience is great with how the zoo is set up in sections with fun paths to follow. There s even a dinosaur section! Some of the animals look a little sad with small cages but overall it looks like a neat and well kept zoo.
